I've been fiddling with this device for a little bit now, and cant seem to figure this out.
I want to send text messages with the keyboard in landscape mode, but cant figure out how.
Only option i found is the rotate screen option, but as soon as i use the phone, it goes back to portrait. Any way to make the phone STAY in landscape mode, or automatically switch to landscape mode when i reply to a text message?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
strange
it's strange, in WM6.1 and WM 6.5 it is automatically enabled. Are you sure you didn't change some settings somewhere. Also found the manually pun in landscape, but goes back to portrait, but that's only in TouchFlo menu.
it happened to me too at first, then I used G-config to make it works, if that doesn't work, try edit the registry yourself. I tried the TD2 tools but that doesn't seem to work with my phone. It keeps going back to portrait and sometime left the images on the screen and eventually the whole thing just crashed.

Hi!
Is it possible to always keep HTC wizard in landscape mode?
I can change it manually by tapping on screen or by HW button. But it reverts to portrait every time I close the keyboard. Since I use the keyboard 98% of time it takes forever every time the screen rotates.
Does anyone of you guru's know of any reg hack or something else that can keep landscape all the time?

VJ come through with a fix (again)
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=928836&page=1&pp=15
See the post from me (a042349) near the bottom of page one. It's a bit of a hack, but it'll work until the next soft reset.
Go to "settings" "system" tab and select screen. There is an option ot select Portrait, Right handed Landscape or left handed landscape.
Re: VJ come through with a fix (again)
a042349: tnx!
This is the soloution you described:
-----------
Start the camera application which puts the phone in landscape mode. Then use a 3rd party utility like "Close-All" or maybe even the native task manager (can't remember exactly) to "kill" the camera app. As long as you kill the camera app without using it's "x" or exiting normally, the device will stay in landscape mode. It stays this way if you open/close the keyboard. It will return to normal mode if you re-open the camera and close it normally, or soft reset the device.
-----------
I tried this on my wizard. But couldn't get it working. I've tried closing the camera app with VJOKButt, VBAR and the native task manager. It stays in landscape mode until I close the keyboard next time. IE exactly the same behavoiur as when manually changing to landscape mode in settings.
May be this is due to all these programs close the camera app to nicely? Or can it be this isn't working on the latest AKU2 ROM?
Anyone got an idéa?

Not working for me too. Maybe something with wm6? God, someone has to hack the wizard about this problem!
Thank you guys for tryin'
registry keys
I know this thread is somewhat inactive but I just got an 8125 and really wanted to figure this out. I did some poking around in the registry and some experimentation and found the registry keys that seem to do what we want.
HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\CamAppActive - 0 is off, 1 is on. When this is 1 it keeps the screen from rotating. This seems to be why the camera workaround worked.
Set CamAppActive to 1, then go to settings/system/screen and switch the landscape lefthanded mode. Now the phone is in landscape and theres no laggy switching between portrait and landscape every time you open the keyboard ! To cancel it out just open and close the camera or soft-reset.
This could also be used to keep the screen in portrait whenever the keyboard is open....but i have no idea why anyone would want to do that.
If i knew more about messing around with the registry and programming for WM I'd try to work out some sort script to set this on startup..maybe when i get bored...
Is it possible to keep the 6800 in landscape mode at ALL times unless I manually press a mapped key or click a rotate icon? There are alot of times where I'm sending tons of text messages and I'm constantly opening and closing the phone and the delay for the screen to rotate around gets REALLY annoying. I'd really like it if I could just keep it in landscape mode and switch it back manually when I'm done
Thanks in advance for any advice!
start, settings, personal, sceen allows you to rotate orientation.
You're right, it does. But that setting is overridden whenever you slide the keyboard in/out. So if I were to go set my 6800 to landscape manually, then open the keyboard and close it again, it will automatically go back to portrait mode regardless of what I've set as my personal setting.
I'm looking for a way to stop my 6800 from automatically changing the screen orientation when the keyboard is slid in or out
try this it should work for you.
Thanks for that. It will suffice for the time being until I find some way to make the change fully manual. Seems I've found some people on PPC Geeks who are looking for a solution to this as well.
Hopefully someday someone will figure it out
supposedly someone is going to post something that may help!

This is the deal breaker for me.
The lack of keyboard will be better if I can make the screen horizontal as I do on my TyTn II. My screen is permanently on ladnscape mode.
As it looks better and there is no lag when switching.
Possible on the HTC Touch HD?
From the manual I read online and playing with it at the store I think its not possible.
Any info?
Thanks
Solution:
To remain constantly in landscapde mode:
You will need to rotate the screen and switch the phone dialer menu(screen) from the default HTC one to the WM dialer menu.
There are plenty of ways to rotate the screen and one way to switch from HTC dialer to WM.
N.B: You must disable the HTC Touch Flow 3d home menu by deselecting from the Home menu in settings.
To change to WM dialer from HTC dialer:
1- Download and install HD Tweak (thanks montecristoff & co.)
2- Use it to change the dialer to WM dialer.
To rotate the screen:
* Search on the forum for the registry tweak to make the option of selecting either landscape or portrait appear. Then go to Start/Settings/Screen and select landscape.
or
Use software like pbar or quickmenu or spb pocketplus to rotate the screen. Obviously pbar or quickmenu are preferable because they are free and very useful (thanks creators).
Cons:
1- With the WM dialer, you loose the ability to make video calls. Its not forever though, you can easily switch to HTC dialer from the HD tweak app.
2- You fore go the HTC Touch Flow 3d home screen. You will probably need to get SPB mobile shell or similar.
Pros:
1- Screen looks damn nice in landscape mode, or as I like to refer to it as wide screen!
2- More text in a more natural perspective. Things dont look so narrow.
3- Typing onscreen is much easier because the virtual keyboard is larger/wider.
I prefer this way because I did not like the way my previous TyTn II (Kaiser) lagged when it rotated from portrait to landscape every time I opened/used the physical keyboard. So I decided to keep it landscape. Turned out to be the best(my) option.
No landscape mode is supported! only TF3D today plugin doesnt support landscape!
so you will not have a problem!
Most software will work in landscape mode - see the FAQ:
"How do I make all applications turn when I rotate the HD?
Not all applications respond to the g-sensor (screen rotation)
There are a number of applications (eg. Gyrator2, GSen) that can help work around this issue. "
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ
Not sure which applications work in landscape and which don't though, but you'd get most of them in landscape.
The Keyboard is pretty usable in portrait with such a big screen too.
I want it in landscape mode permanently!
Not with some applications...
Well u can rotate today screen aswell but it wont look as nice.Tobad it rotates back though when u return from an applicaiton to the today screen.
But that should be fixable. Just try to rotate today via the built in rotate setting and u will se how it looks.
It looks a little weird on the right side of the screenshot but it disapperas immedeiately.
I use SPB mobile shell & SPB diary combined as my today screen.
So I wont be using HTC's today screen at all.

thanks a lot.
I could not find the tweak to enable landscape mode.
Something else you could try - install AE Button Plus, map one of the buttons (e.g. volume up) to "rotate screen", rotate the screen to the orientation you want, then re-load AE Button Plus and un-map the button. That should do it? I'm not entirely sure whether this will stick when you turn off or soft reset your device though...
Alternatively you could do what I have done, and map a long press of volume up to rotate one direction and long press of volume down to rotate the other way. There are occasions where portrait mode is better, others where landscape is better. Also means that volume controls still work as intended when pressed normally. I find gsen and gyrator a bit tempremental at times, so prefer having manual control over the rotation.
Even this will not cause proper rotation if your looking to stay in landscape. tf3d will not work in landscape without some sort of bodge from the diamond. I use my htc device in a car with landscape gps apps. I gave up on tf3d as maybe i don't need it because i've got voice commander. I set gyrator to switch to the phone app and rotate if the phone was landscape and happened to be on the manilla screen. I wanted the phone app to be landscape so i can see who i'm voice calling while in the car. this works, but if you switch to another app then back to the phone then the phone goes portrait and then only re shaking and landscaping the phone gets it to go landscape. Really I don't want to touch it when im driving. I guess I could set a voice command to rotate but I dont think its worth it. I also tried unhiding the landscape with a reg edit but once again the phone app re-portraits. Im now going to try a hreset and stoping the customize incase that affects the phone orientation if not im going a hunting a reg setting as maybe there is one that causes the phone app to portrait? I swear this was easier on my universal but i refuse to give up (and im kinda having fun )

Again, in either HD Tweak or Advance Config, there's a bit where you can check which phone dialer skin is used (I think HD Tweak) maybe if you try setting the phone dialer to the original WM 6.1 dialer instead of the HTC one it might not keep switching back to portrait? You won't be able to make video calls, but that may be something you don't mind losing... I know I never use it...
No thats fine, I have ugly friends
woohoo thanks guys no more poking around in the dark with reg settings for me hd tweak did the job!

I believe he is woohoo'ing because if you switch from HTC dialer type to WM dialer type via HD Tweak (you do loose the ability to make a video call), it then no longer rotates back to portrait mode after you switched to landscape.
Prior, it would remain in portrait mode till you accessed the dialer screen, then for some reason it would rotate back to portrait mode.
Now with the WM dialer style, it stays permanently in landscape mode.
This is with TF3d disabled of course.
Hi, guys!!!
In Iolite there isn't option to change screen to portrait and landscape screen mode. So, I decided to write a small tool to do it. Hope it useful for someone.

anyone try this??????????????
I didn't, as i don't really see the point...
There is an option in the settings just for that (at least in custom roms).
If you have a stock rom, then it should be useful...

This is neither true, a little registry modify is sufficient, but:
I tried it, it doesn't work, in a first moment it change portrait to landscape but, when you close the app, display come back to portrait it's unhelpful

Some app can't be displayed in landscape mode (for instance manila). If you close this program and then it's manila run, screen mode will become portrait. It's happening with phone, that have option to change screen mode (i checked it).
If you run apps, that can be displayed in landscape mode (windows media player, file explorer...), you can then run this program, change to landscape mode, close program. You'll see that screen mode will remain landscape mode.
ok, but is too work... after registry modify, you can to associate "rotate screen" function to an hardware button, I do it with long press "green horn", thus, I can change portrait to landscape and vice versa in every moment I want...
I have just found out how to enable option to change between landscape and portrait screen mode. I will include it in my next ROM
Best regards!!!
I would open my sms tab from the home screen and then after I open a message I would turn my phone sideways and it would go landscape and I would be able to type in landscape etc...
now when I turn it sideways it goes into landscape then switches right back to portrait .... I do not know what is going on, it is a little irritating since typing in landscape is easier for me...

try to recalibrate the accelerometer aka "g" sensor
go to settings-->sound&display=== "calibrate g-sensor" option.
set your phone on a flat surface and let it do its thing.
That did not work.... but thanks for the help any ways! .... I wonder what it is...
I closed all open applications and after that it seemed to work.....
