Flash Lite / Flash 10.1 Support ? - Legend General

The reports I've read online suggest the Legend doesn't ship with Flash Lite support as the Hero does. Also Adobe have said you need a snapdragon cpu or higher to get Flash 10.1 support.
Does this leave the Legend with no flash ?
The post be Adobe....
Hi all,
You can expect the final release for Android to be available mid-year. All Android devices that meet our minimum s/w and h/w requirements will be supported. Unfortunately, I cannot say a lot more publicly about our port to the Android platform at this time.
As for WinMo, we have made the tough decision to defer support for that platform until WinMo7. This is due to the fact that WinMo6.5 does not support some of the critical APIs that we need.
As for your other questions:
* Yes, we will support the Motorola Milestone.
* No, the HTC Hero will not be supported b/c it does not have the correct Anroid OS version and it’s chipset is not powerful enough. We require a device with an ARM v7 (Cortex) processor. Examples include the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and TI OMAP3 series.
Best regards,
Antonio

i have this question too but i can't get an answer anywhere

well the pre-release one i saw could not play bbc iplayer programs (it crashed the browser) but it just about managed to play youtube, although quite slow and jerky.
It seems to have flash lite at the moment, but this was a pre-release device which didn't even have Sense on it yet.....

all the early reviews I've read said it does have flash and it works:
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030107,49305224,00.htm?s_cid=82
http://gizmodo.com/5488019/htc-legend-review-frankly-it-feels-expensive
http://www.slashgear.com/htc-legend-review-0876928/

well playing "Restaurant City" (Facebook Flash Games) works - very slow but working...

Hi all,
Just thought I'd bump this as I haven't found a definitive answer just yet [please provide the necessary link if I have missed it!].
1] I presume Flash Lite is shipped & working with the Legend...?
2] Any news on 'full fat' Flash 10.1 support? As per OP, Adobe suggest a snapdragon processor is required, is this still the case? Will we ever see Flash 10.1 on the Legend?
Thanks in advance

Yup it comes with flash lite.
No news on Flash 10.1 for the Legend.

the legend must have flash lite flash works but it seems to be completely cpu based which leads to performance problems.
im surprised they would say that 10.1 needs snap dragon. the desktop flash10.1 added GPU acceleration i was under the impression that android 10.1 would bring the same which had a huge potential to increase flash performance making it close to if not perfect
also flash 10.1 will be in FroYo (2.2) chances are htc will update to 2.2 (least i hope) so we should get it anyway if not then custom rom it up!

hi guys, I am trying to port flash lite into LG optimus one. since the htc legend and Optimus one has the same processor and OS, it might be possible to just dump in the files into system\app and system\lib. So can someone extract the flash related files from these 2 folders?

Nice bump
Just download one of the Froyo ROMs in the Development section + dsixda's kitchen (check Chef Central -> Android) and extract all files you need.

thanks for the info.

[Q] Install Flash player on optimus one

Can we do something about flash player on optimus one?
the only solution that I am aware is installing skyfire beta browser..
let the phone get some a bit older and the guys gonna find a solution for that i mean there is a plugin for the iphone 3g to support flash.
and the iphone 3g is much slower as the lg
but on my device also skyfire don't plays flash videos...why?
Because Lg have set not permission to use flash with this phone...

No, because the cpu of the phone does not support certain instructions required for the actual flash player.
thats not really right the cpu got enough power but adobe set it to v7 cpus only so i dosent work maybe if someone do a modification its gonna work on v6 aswell.
and like i say this phone is alot faster as the 3g iphone so probley we can get it to work.
...but skyfire don't use Flash, works well on iphone

I did not talk about the cpu power, but about instructions which do not run on the P500s cpu, but only with v7 cpus.
I just use Skyfire for flash video sites. Works great.
The Indian version of Optimus 1 P500 has the flash player installed by default!
Hi,
Searching on LG's Indian site i've found the same info.
www_lg_com/in/mobile-phones/all-phones/LG-P500.jsp
In "Features" says:
Anroid OS 2.2 (Froyo)
The new LG Optimus One comes with Android 2.2 Froyo version with advanced benefits like improved speed, USB Tethering, Android Market, installation of apps in MicroSD Card, Adobe Flash 10.1 and lots more.
I just bought this phone and, here in Brazil, it came without Flash.
*Sorry my english.

It seems that currently the only version to have the flash player is that of India. Perhaps it has a firmware update with unlocked flash player.
someone needs to track that firmware down so the devs can cook up the files.
If someone owning this indian version of the phone would install the custom recovery, make a nandroid backup and make this available this would be great.
If someone has a download link to download this version of the ROM somewhere from LG (as *.kdz) this would be even better.
I just have found this: http://www.gadgetsreview.eu/2010/10/install-flash-on-lg-optimus-one-p500.html
But it does not work on my phone. Browser just closes while loading a page (even those without flash).
Can somebody try it? (After uninstalling the browser works again without problems...)

Tested it too. Same behavior tho... Well we just need to wait some Koothrappali to bring us a nand of an indian P500 :>
member silver_ramu has an indian version.. if you see this please nand backup your rom and send it too corwin asap!!!!!!
i dont see any flash support on there site maybe they take it out ?
I am from India and have been using this cell since a week now. There is no flash support *10.1 or Lite* whatsoever. The information published on the box and website is false as I have been unable to load any flash content of any kind on any site.
Eg:- gsm arena 360 phone view, youtube desktop version, any other video sites, newsground etc.
Flash support, is dependant on the processor an LG Optimus is not compatible in the world nor in India with it. *just registered on the forum to negate this view that we are lucky 'cos we have flash 10.1 (we DONT) *

Flash lite on 2.3.3

I know its been asked loads and people say its not worth it but anyone made this work? I tried it in 2.1 and it wouldnt work for me.
I'm also interested in doing this. I have an HTC Tattoo running CM7, I can't run Flash 10.1 since my processor is Armv6. I'm looking for a way to make flashlite run, so that I have some flash support in browser.

I would also like to have flash on my phone. I think that either Adobe or someone must rewrite flash to work on armv6. Maybe we should make a petition for Adobe to make flash for our phone?
Hello,
I have some additional info about running Flash on ARMv6 devices. For the time being, our only option is to run Flash Lite 3 or Flash Lite 4. Actually Flash Lite 4 is exactly what we are looking for, since it's a stripped down version of Flash 10.1 that can run on ARMv6 devices!
Dexter's TatFroyoTatoo v0.4 ROM includes Flash Lite 4 from HTC. It's actually ported from HTC Wildfire, and works quite well in my opinion. The down side is that this ROM has Sense UI and apparently HTC Flash 4 plug-in requires it. I'm not a big fan of Sense
I'm currently trying to figure out a way to remove the dependency or include minimum missing dependencies so that I can build an AOSP or CM based ROM that includes Flash Lite 4 for HTC Tattoo/Click. I think it can be done for other devices as well.
Regards,
Tolga
Use Skyfire browser
You can try Skyfire browser it has flash support by converting flash content to HTML 5 on its server
Unfortunately Skyfire just works for videos. It can't play other flash content, so it doesn't work in my case.
I'd love to have Flash Lite 4 or Flash 10.1 too.
However, Adobe has released Flash to HTML5 tool. It works with simple banners for now. But, it just gives us a clear message. Flash is not here to stay. When HTML5 is mass adapted, Flash will have to die.
On the side note, I'd point my hands on Ideos X3.
It was launched recently(in Korea, on last 3rd if memory serves correctly).
It supposedly has a ARMv6 processor yet sport Flash 10.1 on the specs. Would be glad if anyone can rip the apk off this thing.
Recommend that it should not be installed because: not a flash 10 (Gt540 never flash 10) => useless, just a few more loads of banner ads and still not see the flash video, flash game, slower browsing! So who has read this part anywhere, best not to install
Sorry for my Eng!
The reason Id like Flash lite is that some sites use Flash for audio streaming rather than video! This is an example :
http://www.radioreference.com/
I would have thought it should be easy to do that as its minimal processing. Ive tried Skyfire and other browsers and they dont work in this case.

The problem is Flash supports mp3 codec and HTML5 audio supports ogg codec. This is why all those sites are still using Flash. It might or might not work with Flash lite. That's another issue. For music hosts, implementing HTML5 means converting the whole backend.

Thanks for all the help, but I'm going Chinese

Just wanted to take the time to thank everyone here for all the useful information they provided. I spent a lot of time modifying the GT540, and had a lot of fun with it.
But it's time for an upgrade. I just ordered the Huawei U8800. From what I have read, it's basically a HTC Desire with the next generation processor and a TFT screen. It is also very reasonably priced. The Huawei U8800 recently got it's own section here at XDA, so I'm hoping for lots of development over there.
Also, lots of people in China know about XDA. I've meet a few people at my college in Xi'an, China who use XDA. So if the Chinese modders and developers get to work on the Huawei U8800, I can expect a lot of improvements for the phone.
Thanks everyone for your help.
How much did you buy it for? Does anyone you know have ideos x3? Can you rip the flash player from x3 and share it with us? (Not your model, the lesser x3)
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
I bought it for 1550 RMB ($240 USD). You can buy them used 1250-1450 RMB ($190-$225 USD). I bought them in China off of TaoBao. I don't know what they cost elsewhere.
I originally wanted an HTC Desire (1900 RMB) or HTC Desire HD(2500 RMB), but they are a bit more expensive here. The U8800 basically gave me the Desire with the Desire HD's processor and GPU, which can be overclock up to 1.8 GHz.
I'll ask around if someone has an X3 (U8510, right?). I'll also ask around at some Chinese Android forums, after I find some. To rip the flash player it I would just copy the apk with root explorer or a back-up program, right? Is there something great about this flash player I should know about?

Well, that's cool. Congrats with your new phone and do have fun hacking. xD
Ideos X3(U8510) supposedly has a Qualcomm MSM 7227 processor but it also boasts Adobe Flash 10.1. I do not know how this worked out. Qualcomm MSM 7227 is the same processor as in LG GT540. It's ARMv6. Am curious as to how X3 is running Flash 10.1 on ARMv6.
I don't have exact specs from an official source but if what I've heard is true, Flash 10.1 on X3 would work on other ARMv6 devices as well.
(Flash Lite is another alternative but Flash Lite depends on Sense architecture of HTC and would require a lot of tinkering to the ROM. Even after all the hacking, it'd still be Flash Lite and not Flash 10.1.)
I did some quick research on the Huawei U8510. It is quite strange.
Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz
256 MB RAM
Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Flash 10.1
How can the X3 it have Android 2.3 when the X5 only has Android 2.2? and with such little ram?
Anyway, leave it to the Chinese to do crazy things like that. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff they put on Chinese phones, and MP5 players (known to the rest of the world as MP4 players).
Knowing the Chinese, they probably put flash on there because they could, not because the phone will run it. You can see that the X3 has the same specifications as the GT540, minus the Android 2.3, so there is no telling if flash is running well.
Here is a link I found through Google for flash 10.1. It says it requires Android 2.2 or above, which the X3 has.
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/23/download-official-flash-10-1-v10-1-92-8-for-froyo-now/
I'll still ask some of my Chinese friends if any of them have the X3. I'll also go to the local computer mall and have a look at the X3. However, I wouldn't count on it being any different than the above download. Huawei is supposed to use "vanilla" or almost stock android, with little to no overlay or bloatware. I'd also like to see about porting the Android 2.3 to my X5.

X3 was launched later than X5. That's why it has 2.3. Even G1 runs 2.3 and 3.0. Android has no hard set system requirements. Theoretically, any version of Android can be ported to any device.
The 2.3 doesn't have a lot of advantages over 2.2. The speed gain is very small.
I don't know how they put the Flash 10.1.
Flash 10.1 needs both 2.2/2.3(would work on 2.1 with some tinkering) and a ARMv7(or newer) CPU. The libflashplayer.so is compiled for ARMv7. However, someone who is good in programming could either wrap the libflashplayer.so in an emulation layer or could reverse engineer and recompile it so that it will work on ARMv6. It's not impossible but rather, it's really really hard. No one has done it so far.
Huawei is not exactly a sub-standard Chinese brand. It's a recognized brand. So, I wouldn't expect them to put a Flash Player that wouldn't work. Either the information we have about the CPU is wrong or the phone doesn't have Flash.
Since X5 is vanilla, am also expecting X3 to be vanilla which means, if it does have a working Flash 10.1 and it does run on MSM7227, the Flash 10.1 it has should run on GT540 and many other ARMv6 devices.
From pure curiosity last week I extracted flash 10.2's apk and found that it has a .lib file that could supposively be put in /system/lib with root explorer (permissions rw-r--r--) and install the apk with either push or install. That may work, it did with x-plane flight sim, which crashed before the lib push but after opened but was killed by android for it not having enough memory to run it. I will try it now and report my findings.
I will also post an extracted apk in 3 ways, 7zip, which just opens it, APKTOOL, which decodes the xmls, and dex2jar which takes the classes.dex and puts it into a jar file that can then be decoded by Java decopmiler

The problem is not with the apks. The problem is with the lib file or more specifically libflashplayer.so. This file depends on ARMv7 architecture. So, if you want Flash 10.1/10.2 on ARMv6, you should be able to decompile the lib(.so) files and edit them to convert ARMv7 dependent code to ARMv6 compatible code and recompile it for ARMv6. Editing the apk is very easy but porting the .so(lib) file is very very hard.

I'm not sure about other lib files but libflashplayer.so is the most important. If we can port it, at least Flash 10.1 would work.
I looked into finding a X3, it's most likely going to be pretty difficult. I couldn't find them at China Unicom, which is the store that sells the X5. Also, I couldn't find it online, except for 6 sellers which had it on Taobao. Normally, for any given phone model, there are at least 50-100 different sellers. Also, some of the sellers didn't have the specifications listed for the phone correctly.
Is the X3 officially released? If so, what cellphone provider has it?

It's not released in US or Europe. I'm not sure about its official release in China. It was supposed to be released in Japan by SOFTBANK Mobile during the first week of May. I checked the Huawei site as well as SOFTBANK site but I couldn't find any references to X3.
I don't speak Japanese or Chinese without Google Translate. So, if I there is someone who is fluent in Japanese or Chinese, they could do two things,
1) You can contact the seller asking for the official driver/software download link or you can ask them to send you a copy via email. Most of the time, the software has an option to completely re-install the firmware(Recovery Phone in LG Mobile Phone Tools). If we could get hold of the firmware, most likely we would be able to extract the files we need from it.
2) Some of these online shops have a list of other people who bought the device. You could try messaging them for help. You could ask them to make a complete backup of the system.img with YaffsExpert or you could ask them to rip the apks with Root Explorer.
I checked the Engadget Hand-on review and the reviewer say that the device is MSM7227 and does play Flash. However, she also mentioned that the launcher was themed which means it might not be vanilla. Nonetheless, it is Adobe Flash 10.1. If this reaches the devs, they will be more interested in porting it.
I speak and read (for the most part) Chinese, however Google translate does alot to help. I also live in China.
The seller's on Taobao won't be able to provide software and firmware. They are lucky if they can get the specifications right. Also, I only saw one completed transaction for the X3 on taobao, but my Chinese is nowhere good enough to ask them for a back-up, or explain how to do it.
Huawei's website doesn't have the X3 listed as a model. All I could find about the X3 was the user manual, and an EU Declaration of Conformity.
If I can find the phone in a store, I can bring my laptop and say I want to test out the phone. They'll let me do just about anything, so long as I don't take the phone out of the store, if they think they may make a sale. And since my computer is in English, they won't know what I'm doing.
Right now, I don't think the X3 is released fully. The few sellers that have it on Taobao are most likely insiders. Someone send me a message when the X3 is released in China, and I'll see what I can do.

If you are lucky, the buyer might know English. xD
Please give me the link to the user guide. It might give us some insight about the specs.
I also learned from a Frash forum that the Adobe Flash 10 beta 1 which was released in a closed beta was ARMv6 compatible. I couldn't find the beta 1 apk anywhere though.
Adobe did work on ARMv6 and armeabi to begin with. They first demoed Flash on G1 but they never released the ARMv6 version. They dropped ARMv6 support because they couldn't improve performance well.
Huawei could be using the older beta or they might have developed their own port.
It seems that I have found an apk which when extracted in 7zip you look in its lib folder and it has only an armeabi folder, whereas the newer ones have a folder called armeabiv7 (arm v7). Perhaps this is what you are looking for?
We still need to do something to it, as it doesn't load flash.
To test whether we have flash go to http://www.codegeek.net/flash-version.php to check whether flash is installed & javascript enabled

I'll check it soon in a while and post back. I extracted and did see armeabi folder but the version in the manifest doesn't seem to be a beta version.
armeabi can be v6 or v7 or generic. But, if it's not mentioned v7 and only armeabi, it most likely means that it could be generic but we do need to check. I'll check it in my phone.
I looked on the Huawei website for the firmware for the X3, and it's not out yet. When it does come out, we should be able to download it and extract out the flash player. It will most likely be the easiest way, since getting an actual X3 phone will be very difficult.

I looked on the Huawei website for the firmware for the X3, and it's not out yet. When it does come out, we should be able to download it and extract out the flash player. It will most likely be the easiest way, since getting an actual X3 phone will be very difficult.

That's true but you know "we are impatient" lol
Huawei might not release the firmware right after the phone is launched. The other thing is, they might not include the Flash Player in the public download link since although Android is Apache Lincensed, Flash Player is a closed and privately owned software by Adobe.

Vodafone Smart Mini (V875).. Very Decent devices, not known

Hello everyone,
So basically I own a very nice phone with decent specifications but not many people know it, so I decided to come here and Ask
First of all, it's the Vodafone Smart mini, aka. TCT Vodafone V875, It has 3.5" HVGA screen, resolution 320x480, MTK 6575 1ghz single core cpu and a PowerVR gpu which gives amazing performance
So, I've been looking all over internet for a custom rom for it, I was able to root it using the amazing Framaroot and I got custom recovery from smartmini.wordpress.com, that website has a custom rom stock based for it but that's not what I'm looking for
I'm looking for something like AOKP or CM or Paranoid for my device, that gives me an android version higher than 4.1.1 since that's what the device comes with
What I'm asking for is a custom rom with android version 4.1.2+ that is the same as CM or any other famous roms so if there is or if there are people working on one(s) please give me link and thank you
Also a little link to help devs looking forward to develop a rom for the device : http://sourceforge.net/projects/alcatel/files/VF875_20130619.tar.xz/download
It's the device's source code
i too would like this.
Good luck
It actually seems more responsive than my droid4.

HTC Wildfire E Lite

I have a HTC Wildfire E Lite as a backup phone. I realise it's not like the old HTC devices in the rest of this forum - it's pretty generic hardware I suspect.
It runs Android 10 Go Edition, which I really don't like. Ideally I'd like to install a fully-fledged version of Android. To this end I've managed to unlock the bootloader, and now require a (stock) Android 10 image. Failing that, even just the right boot image for rooting (I've tried Kingoroot - no luck).. But after searching the web I can't find anything for this model of phone. Given its generic hardware, is it possible to use an image made for other devices?
Specs:
Android v10 (Q)
Quad core, 1.8 GHz, Cortex A53 processor
MediaTek Helio A20 Chipset
2 GB RAM
32 GB internal storage
Hi.
I might have an idea on how you could go about this.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not a tech guru but the info I have should be able to get you what you want.
I got most of these info because of my desperation for optimization when I owned a potato (Infinix Smart 3). It literally had no Dev support, even in XDA. My recent phone has no support either but it's smooth enough for me so I'll just share my knowledge with you!
First, I'll advice you to backup your stock ROM. Have you heard of Wwr MTK? Or SP flash tool? These are the Mediatek tools you'll need to backup your stock images. JSYK your processor, Helio A20, is codenamed MT6761D. That'll come in handy!
Use this video to learn more on how to use them:
And please I'll have to beg you not to use Kingoroot. It's a very dated root method so I'll advice you to use Magisk. Here (https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk), you'll get all the info you'll need to install Magisk.
Also, if you're looking for a stable custom ROM to use, you can use Android 10 or Android 11 GSI system image from XDA recognised Phh. Find them here( https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases)
Also, if you want to have the same experience as on Google Pixel devices, you could also use Pixel Experience or Pixel Experience+ GSIs. Find them here (https://github.com/ponces/treble_build_pe/releases)
If you run into any issues, you could contact me on WhatsApp (https://wa.me/2348107260090)
Or Telegram (https://t.me/si_nach) or just search @si_nach
Hope this helps! Have Fun!
Awesome! Thank you! I'm going to give it a go in the next few days and will update with the results. Much appreciated
