HTC HD2 doesn't qualify for a Windows Phone 7 Upgrade - Touch HD General

Bad news for the HTC HD2 owners: your beloved WinMo smartphones does not qualify for a Windows Phone 7 upgrade. The reason is more than ridiculous but you can't do anything to change the situation: the HD2 packs five hardware buttons instead of only 3.

not true a big misleading fact or confused fact..
requirement is of 3 navigation buttons winlogo start, back and search. ur common send and end buttions doesnt count.
HD2 also has 3 navigation buttons but instead of search it has home. and thats the problem.
very similar to what 6.5 done to HD as it didnt had logo start but diamond2 has that and got official 6.5.
hope ppl understand now.

I'll have to disagree that the HD2's buttons is a "problem". Microsoft's excuse is pretty lame. What's so hard about remapping the home button to search ?
Buttons in WM are all mappable via software or firmware. At this point,MS is just being non-committal, and hope that HD2 users will upgrade to new WM7 phones.
Well, I think MS is making a mistake. HD2 users will have no incentive to remain with WM if they have to ditch their HD2 to buy a new phone. They could easily jump to Android, or iPhone.

don't worry, i'm sure, xda developers people can handle it!

Shouldn't this be in the HD2 forum not HD!

Don't worry I don't believe HTC would upgrade an "old" device when WP7S comes out

Haha, After HD, I am done with HTC already.

And I was considering buying the HD2 today. Not going to happen, I won't make the same mistake twice.

If anyone wants the full details, read this

Please close as irrelevant to HD ROM cooking!

HTC touch HD doesnt qualify for WM6.5.x either - AND SO WHAT WE'VE GOT??
Big deal - I belive, there will be WP7 even for HTC touch HD - thanks to smart guys from XDA

why dont u guys just stop posting instead of shouting close close
oh i just posted ...oops

This is really old news and I'm not saying it's wrong, but I'm not saying it's right. Although there might not be an official update for hd2 from htc or your carrier, changing the mapping of 3 buttons to support an os is not the hardest thing in the world. Also, Win7 has been seen running on HD2 at Barcelona, so if they could do it, I'm positive xda will have no problem.
Andy why is this in the HD forum and not HD2?

thanks a lot,
P.S you guys seem most skillful dev team, keep up guys.
it is possible but no one can assure you that this will happen. look at the orginal HD port as an example

you will never find the right answer, and we all already can see it is pretty tough to put an non android phone with a fully working android? So far, it is pretty impossible. Why would you putting high hope with a wm phone to be ported with android? this will not be a good factor at all for choosing a phone? my 2 cents.
If I read the signs right, there will bei a Android Version of the Leo in early 2010.
Maybe there is a change to flash between the two OS.
On the other Hand this would mean HTC didnt give an capactive Display to the Leo for being ready for Windows Mobile 7 but for being able to sell it as Android Device aswell.

If you want to google for this version you should use the magic words "HTC Dragon"
Cool .. I'm reading this forum for two weeks to get reason NOT to buy Leo. Still haven't found one. But this might be it ..

Any Leo users changing to HD Mini?

Hi,
Im just curious what Leo users think of the HD Mini and if they plan to downsize?
Cheers
If i had HTC Mini I would change to Leo..
No way i got my leo for the size and speed, i don't want something less lol
i am a hd one user i would upgrade to hd mini to save money as both hd2 and hd mini will not get wp7 so why spend more money

blasphemy!!
No way... Honestly, I don't know if I could go back to a device smaller than an HD2. It is absolutely perfect for me. I hope this size is more common in new HTC devices. I would hate to ever have to use one of those tiny ass phones again.
downgrading from the snapdragon will certainly be noticable on the mini. The size may be tempting for some its not for me.
most of us both the HD2 for the big screen so why downsize?
I'm tempted to downsize to a smaller, less powerful, rubbish WM 6.5.x version of the HD2 - sounds like a bargain*
* Not really, what a silly question!!! lol
NO WAY...............................
Only someone out of their friggin mind would do such a lame thing!

+1 I agree
Lmao this should be moved to the LOL section of XDA (we do have such a thing, right??? Please say right)
I was messing with a friends brand new phone (which phone has left me for the time being lol).
But all I could say when using it was 'wow, its so small. How do you live with that screen?'
I'd not change my HD2 for the world.
+1 for me too... i the that the HD2 is the best phone on the market at the present time....
whoa!
Such a resounding No!
Can only mean that the HD2 meets its expectations!
Im keen on the HD2 but still like the dpad and hardware buttons on my Kaiser!
The HD Mini is a cut down version of the Touch HD... Not in the same league as the HD2.
Lol, no way for me XD at least don't cut down processor speed

HD2 WP7 ROM available for download? Nah, just talking...

There was some links here, but of course - not for HD2. Still waiting then...
UPDATE.

I don't know if you've noticed, but this xda.cn thread is from today.
I am confused
is there a wp7 for HD2 or not? the linke is too chinese for me
There is some download link, but even though i have an account on xda.cn - i can't download because of some credis i suppose (google translator ftw.).
sthEn, can you paste some info from the thread here? After translating it off course.
"3 files I've downloaded, to be sure the file is uploaded to the excellent eggs today"
There should be some mirrors soon thanks to one of the xda.cn people
Basically, nobody've tested it yet - too soon i guess.
Google translation from the above site:
HTC HD2 takes all three large-scale system to run successfully WP7
Windows Mobilephone the king of the group, has once again implemented a perfect trial run of WP7,HTC HD2 (parameters), the system has successfully transplanted Android 2.2 onto HD2, and now once again is trying to run WP7 for real, HD2 an emperor once again, becomes a focus of attention.
HTC HD2 performance of mobile phone configuration is in full compliance with the requirements of WP7, the screen has a 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen, built-in 1GHz processor and 500 million pixel camera. From the already listed HTC HD7 (parameters)of view, HD2 processor and the same type HD7, HD2's only drawback is its key design which does not meet the physical requirements of WP7, but it will not stop it from running WP7. Time is drawing near, let us work together to cheer!
Damn....I guess I wont get to sleep...This is freaking crazy....

Dual Boot WP7 and Android on HTC Vision?

(Yap, the green smiley face again)
Envy HD2 owners that able to run BOTH Windows Phone 7 and Android their device?
Anybody here wish that it's available for our G2/DZ too?
but technically, is it even possible?
Let's give your opinion.
Get the HD2 then
Is WP7 really nice that you want to run on a G2/DZ? Personally, I don't like the interface of WP7, but I must admit that if that were possible, I would give it a try and install. Just because I'm a curious cat. LOL.

Me too, not so interest with WP7.
But for the sake of my "geek-ness", I want ALL that, in my phone.
I have both the HD2 and the G2. I run WP7 on the HD. it is flawless. would love to try on thwe vision. however i beleive that the HD2 is the only non-wp7 that has the hardware to run it... if the vision had a stock clock spd of 1GHZ then maybe.....but it does not...no matter it can be overclocked....that is prob the nail in the coffin, plus the button layout is very important... i hope im wrong. but i do love having both..hehe....u can get a HD2' for $29.99 on contract or new line if u can find one

So why WP7 is in HD2?
eadams1975: do check on my flag again. I'm not in US dude.
and the POWER in HD2 is not as good as HTC Vision. :d
did not look at your flag..oops. i have no doubts of potential with the G2 thats why i picked one up for my new mod toy
I have a HD2 too and had installed dual boot WM/Android but I never would have installed WP7. Yerk. And definitely don't want it on my Z!
Sent from my Vision using XDA App
Do we need a thread about this every week because someone does not understand how to search? NO YOU CANT WP7 IS NOT OPEN SOURCE.
Isn't the only reason WP7 is sort-of on the HD2 that Microsoft/HTC themselves ported it before the other HTC WP7 phones were released ? Maybe I'm wrong but that is my assumption.
WP7 isn't going to happen on the Vision because the necessary drivers will be missing, and without source code it would be a huge job to fix this.

First, thanks for your hard time to remind people to "search before you post".
It's just a GENERAL DISCUSSION on "ENVYING the HD2 owners able to dual boot WP7 and Android".
If in some way, this thread made you feel that it's a request/demand/question, then I'm sorry.
The task would be mammoth, and there's no hardware drivers etc, and not much info on WP7, so not likely to happen. Closing, as this will likely become another flame war

[Q] Android on my HTC Trophy 7

Dear Amazing developers,
I am sure you have encountered this question several times but I just need to understand if I can install Android system on my HTC Trophy 7, I am hating how microsoft is hounding their users in such stupid way. Please advise.
Thank you so much
Not possible....yet. But, team from XDA.CN are working on Android ROM currently for HTC HD7. I think that if they make it for HD7, it could be done for all wp7s out there...
Here's the video about their progress.
Bye!

Unfortunately noone does... I can guess that it might me avalible in let's say 1 month or more... If you ask me, I would love it to be avalible tomorrow, but i highly
doubt it happening.
We can only say thumbs up for this project and keep our fingers crossed that they
don't encounter heavy problems during the realisation of this project!
looooooool... Yep thats exactly what am doing RIGHT NOW
I can wait , just cant get into WP7 Ive tried and tried to like it but its still a 50/50 thing.
i think if the HD7 has nand Android i think its not so hard to port then Android
to Trophy and Mozart because they has the same CPU.

Why don't you just sell you WP7 phone and get yourself a new Android device ? The market price on a Trophy is as high as it's going to be, so you'll get the most for it now.
Also you don't not have to worry about Hacking Android to get it on the phone, that sometimes might not offer the best performace or hardware not working correctly.
Just wondering...
Is there anything new about putting Android on HTC Trophy, since last reply and asking about this was about the end of April..?
Thanks, and thumbs up for developers...
Nope, nothing new.
Please get yourself and stock android phone, i perfer WP7 over ANDROID everyday.
because they all have android least the trophy? Someday there will be someone dared you succeed? (before you break into pedas) jajaja
Some info to all the xda.cn video is just a fake confirmed by cotulla
anyone knows if somebody is doing it..? I mean, dooes it 'fits' on HTC Trophy..?
thanks
Why would anyone want to do this? And even more important why would anyone want to build a ROM? Screw Android. I'd rather someone make a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the Trophy instead of this crap.
I do not agree with you... I believe it would be better if android fits on HTC Trophy... That possibility would be great!
