I have come across the term "Unlocked HTC HD2/Unlock the SIM card". What is the exact meaning of unlock. If it's locked means we can use the sim card from only the particualr phone carrier. Suppose I am buying the phone from vodafone/starhub, I can use only the vodafone/starhub sim card in the locked device?
Can you please throw some light on it? thanks.

Unlock can have 2 meanings, Security Unlock and SIM unlock.
Security unlock is HSPL that unlocks your flash memory to be able to flash a different OS.
SIM unlock means you can use the device on other carriers' SIMs and you can flash radios from other devices

Hi.
I was reading how to use lokwiz for the CID unlock. The website said after you execute the CID unlock, the phone gives you a SIM number to unlock the SIM. It said you have to replace SIM cards during this process. It didn't really make sense to me. When installing Molski's latest ROM do you have to unlock both the CID and SIM or just the CID? If you do have to unlock the SIM as well do you really need to change SIM cards, or was the guy talking out of his ass about the switching of SIM cards?
I appreciate you taking the time to help me.
Thanks.
So wondering if its true to call in to do a sim unlock with tmobile then after flashing a rom would this be a permanent unlock for oother service providers or no? thoughts anyone??
Phones are SIM LOCKED to one specific carrier. Once you SIM unlock it, you can pop in any other carrier SIM card and it will work.
As far as permanent, from my understanding you should be able to flash your phone as much as you want, and it will remain SIM unlocked, but I've never done it personally, so I don't know.
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find out how to SIM unlock my G1 without having an AT&T sim card. I have an unregistered T-Mobile sim card available if it could be used at all.
I tried searching but I must be using the wrong search terms because I keep getting results about unlocking using an AT&T sim card to get the request for unlock code to show up.
I have the unlock code, just need to be able to enter it.
dunno if its the same as the UK but I unlocked mine the other day from T-Mobile with an unlock code and all i had to do was to put the wrong sim card in there (i.e. the one u want to use) and then it should prompt you for an unlock code....
Yup, just shove in the ATT SIM card and it will ask for your code...
Hey guys
So I just got my LG Quantum off ebay. I put my Rogers sim card in and I boot, it tells me it cant recognize that there is a sim card or it is invalid. Im not sure what to do. I am switching from a Samsung Focus so there shouldnt be a problem. Yes the phone is unlocked, well the seller said it was unlocked but I wont know until it recognizes a sim card. Any help or ideas out there?
Anyone? bump

Sorry, I only check in every couple of days.
Sounds like your phone needs to be SIM unlocked. (I.e. the previous owner simply sold you a phone which is 'locked' to another vendor's network like AT&T for instance).
What you need to do is go to eBay or google for "LG Quantum Unlock Code". You'll need the IMEI (inside the battery compartment) and it shouldn't cost more than about $20.
Well the thing is the seller sold it unlocked. But Im skeptical, so I bought a code and such from cell unlocker, but the issue is that it doesn't recognize that there is a sim card inside of it. I have tried 2 bell sim cards, and 2 rogers sim cards. This is the problem because with the quantum there is no way to unlock it that I know of that doesnt require a sim card. It hasnt recognized any of the sim cards, it boots up and sais that there is no sim in the phone.

That's weird, it should at least prompt for PIN, PUK or unlock code. I would try:
1. Reflashing and then try if it asks for unlock code
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935605
2. Rebel Sim II 30$ (SIM card chipping)
3. Octopus India, 83$ (Unlock/repair tool)
My Quantum in is "PUK-code-loop" and unlocking code, reflashing or correct PUK wont help.. Rebel SIM II is on way..
I finally managed to unlock using Rebel SIM II:

Hello all, I have a bit of a weird question.
I want to unlock my mi9t, and I'm told that requires a sim card and takes a couple of weeks.
Problem is, I'll be changing sim cards soon, at some indeterminable time between in a week and in 3-4 months. It's outside of my control and I have no idea when it'll happen.
Is there a problem with changing sim cards part way through?
Is there a problem with unlocking with one sim card and then using another?
Thank you.
What do you want? Unlock simlock or unlock bootloader?
If bootloader it doesn't matter as it takes device number, not sim related

Alright, thank you. I did mean unlocking the bootloader.
I see you are new here, so before you do anything make a backup of your files and stick to guides
