I started to get very annoyed with this problem.
When I use opera, and enter a web page with lots of images (eg. lifehacker.com), I can't seem to zoom in enough to have clear, NON-choppy, images. It seems like the more I zoom pass the double-tap, images just gets worse and more pixellated.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there a fix to this?
I've applied the tweak where I can see whole webpages instead of "zoomed-in" versions that came stock.
Don't know if this is the problem causer.
AFAIK, double-tap sets "zoom level" to 100% (1 image pixel= 1 screen pixel), any more is enlarging and inevitably leading to choppy images.
EDIT: Actually, double-tap seems to already be more than 100%, a 200pix wide image on my gallery is rendered as 350 pixels on screen after a double-tap.

I've just recently noticed (after using my camera more frequently) that the default gallery app causes the photos to be slightly blurry when viewing in full size. This problem is alleviated as soon as you zoom in, even slightly, but when you pinch out to full size again, the photo gets slightly hazy again. What is even more strange is that B&B Gallery off Marketplace does not demonstrate this fuzziness as all images are crisp regardless of if it is zoomed in or not.
Is there a setting that I can switch on the default HTC Gallery app to have all photos appear at full sharpness even at full screen size?
I see what you're saying. I took a few pictures of dinner with the family over the weekend and when I view the images in the default landscape view, they look a little fuzzy.
If I zoom in the fuzziness vanishes, and if I resize it to fit the relative size of landscape view, no fuzziness. If I tilt my phone to portrait and back to landscape, the fuzziness returns.
It is even more frustrating when you look at the photos through B & B Gallery. It isn't as integrated into the OS - ie having a shortcut within the camera view, but all the photos are clear from the start and they don't require zooming in slightly to capture the detail. Of course nothing is as bad as the stock Android 3D gallery, but it is disappointing all the same.
Just use Gallery3DMT.apk if you're having quality issues with HTC Gallery.

Is that different from:
http://phandroid.com/2010/04/13/images-look-blurry-on-android-2-1-theres-a-reason-for-that/
Just loaded it and answered my own question: no. The UI on Gallery3DMT is great, but the picture quality - especially when zooming at all - is just bad.
I too can see this. my eyes aren't great but i notice it and its pretty apparent.
Ive read and read of what the dimensions are
1600x1200
Ive read that is was 1920 x 1402
Regardless, I go to websites that offer these sizes, long press pic>set image as wallpaper. What it does is it doesnt do the hole photo, it'll get a large chunk of it as the main picture. Almost as if it is zooming it with clarity.
The only way ive fund to use a full picture is using multiwallpaper
Are they ever gonna fix this on honeycomb? The crop tool sucks and im annoyed.
It's not a bug so it won't be fixed.
It is a bug. Streched wallpaper makes screen scrolling very glitchy,
I've installed wp clock live wallpaper and it fits all my wallpapers properly and all of the sudden scrolling is buttery smooth. Explain that to me
Not a bug, if you want to choose which part is the center, save it and go into Gallery -> Set picture as wallpaper, it'll ask you to choose which part is center.
Not a bug, as stated above.
Hey guys. My first hours with the SGS2, and there's something annoying me that I couldn't find anywhere.
I'm getting screen brightness variation depending on the image. On darker images the brightness is higher than on brighter images.
I'm pretty sure this is not auto-brightness. I've tested with manual brightness and the effect is there too. It's almost like if there's not enough power for the screen, and when you have more bright pixels, the screen dims.
Has anyone experienced this?
This is specially annoying when scrolling different content, or even when you are on a predominantly white screen and the swype keyboard shows up, making the white area much brighter.
I'm currently on "Normal" on that stupid screen setting (I have image post-processing). Tried movie too, but still shows this behaviour.
Here are two photos using a Nikon D40 in Manual mode. Exposure has not been changed between both photos. I've put them side-by-side for comparision. Brightness was manually set on the SGS2.
Is there a solution to this? Hopefully it's not a hardware problem .
Hmm, can't post image links... Can someone please post them?

EDIT: FOUND THE ANSWER MYSELF
There's a configuration for Energy Automatic Adjustment (don't know if this is the right text as my phone is in Portuguese). Disable that damn thing .
Anybody else notice that images in Dolphin & stock browser appear somewhat blurry and pixelated, particularly on Honeycomb tablets? It appears that these browsers try to fit the page to the screen and end up stretching images out a bit resulting in a soft appearance. I've tested this on my own Web site which uses 900px images and no matter what I can't get Dolphin or the stock browser to render it 1:1 as 900px. Instead the images seem to stretch the entire screen on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (1280px wide). The result is a soft and pixelated images.
Alternatively, Opera Mobile seems to do a better job at rendering the images. As they do appear 1:1 and look every bit as sharp as how I see it on my desktop monitor.
I tried disabling 'Fit Web page to screen' in Dolphin's settings but that did not change anything in regards to the image rendering. Is there any way to achieve sharper images using the stock browser or Dolphin?
The default browser (and Dolphin) try to scale images to fit the width of the tablet. I figured out that by going into the browser's debug mode and toggling "Use Wide ViewPort" it disabled image scaling. The result is you get sharp images that are at 1:1 pixels. I just wish that there was a way to have this permanent instead of always having to go into the about:debug mode whenever the browser is loaded.
I'm not sure how to go about doing this in Dolphin HD or Pad versions though, since I'm not familiar with how to get into their debug modes.
I assume you are on KG6, if so you could either modify the framework or since he seems like a nice guy you could ask froli13 to mod it for you to run wide viewport, there is a thread in the dev section that changes the user agent to desktop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17437874&postcount=110
I use dolphin for pad exclusively and never had any problems (except some sites with drop-down menus don't work).
I've got a D801 (T-Mobile) and over the past month or so, I've been experiencing pretty severe graphical artifacts. It usually consists of multiple purple and green horizontal lines, about a pixel wide, all over the screen (on both the image and any accompanying text content). It is often accompanied by flickering and occasionally by screen smearing. The artifacts occur only when viewing static image content - photos, web pages with photos, apps that include pictures, background images on the lock screen - I've had no problems when playing games. It's not consistent - it only occurs maybe 30% of the time - and it's not limited to specific apps. The artifacting will also disappear if I'm on a web page and scroll past the image. I doubt this is fixable - my gut instinct is that it's a hardware problem - but I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has a solution. I really like my G2 and am not a big fan of any of the options currently available to replace it.
