How to make backlight dim slowly like Symbian Phone or other brand
We all know the phone backlight screen can be time set. The thing is the screen will suddenly become dim. How to make light dim slowly? Can be done by Registry or install .cab file?
I did search. But the result is not for Windows Mobile 6.5.

Is there a way to disable te screen alignment utility on the QTEK 2020? I mean the welcome.exe that runs when your battery was empty or when you do a reset?
I'm searching my ass off but i'm not finding anything.
I think it would require i OS ROM modification since it is "factory" clean if you loose the power. Extended rom customization kicks in after the screen calibration.
It´s a painfull process to calibrate but ít´s an even more painfull experience with a non calibrated screen
/Regards
Would you really notice it if you wouldn't calibrate the screen? Would be the same like not calibrating a joystick on a PC? If you don't do that you always keep moving because the joystick thinks it's not centered.
I'm just thinking here, during the calibration, would there be anything saved to the registry, of the calibration, because then i would be able to export it to a .reg file and let it be imported during the extended rom customization?
I gonne search some more...
Why all the effort to avoid the calibration? After all you are only forced to do it after a hard reset and the time it takes is minimal compared to the following Extended ROM installation. I can't see why it's such a big deal :?
because i have more than 1 PDA to configure

Because it is a great hassle to have it always appeared when you press your Joystick and Calendar hotkey together. And I need these buttons when I play some games or use Sega/Atari and other emulators ((
because it's a touch screen it's much more troublesome not to calibrate
i mean a joystick if no callibrated will wander but a touch screen will not know where or what you are pressing on with the stylus or finger
the alignment isn't a problem for me. just the stupid copy/paste tutorial is a nuisance. But unfortenately it is in the OS. In the beginning developers here tried to make a custom welcome.exe but they gave up. The effort was too much for the benefits.
Great! I didnt know about the joy + calendar button :-D
Rey, my guess is that calibration is device individual so they cant be copied. But using the joy+cal trick at a later stage makes removing it in the OS ROM much more interesting.
oh well, at least i found out how to automaticly get the GMT zone in, so i can just click next and don't have to scroll
For those who are intrested:
Fill in the setting, i have it on GMT +1, then go to your registry editor and export the following value out of the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Time]
TimeZoneInformation
save somewhere and put it an a the EXTENDED_ROM in a .CAB that auto installes, i put in in the IIWPO.CAB in platformxxx.reg works for me
Restorator

Try Restorator utility (search this forum on: restorator) for individual and multiple setups. Works for me! Thanks to SP!
Unfortunately, it doesn't solve our alignment issue
Dunno if it can help..but I remember ..some cooked ROMs for XDA1 haven't got this Copy-Paste procedure.. some programmer have removed it.
So,try to search for it..
Is there any application that can set backlight level to half when you open it the first time and when you open it for the second time to set the backlight level to max and viceversa ?! And if there isn`t ..can it be done with mortscript or smthing because I want to link it to a hard button in AEbutton so it will be easier to switch from low backlight (for when I`m indoor), to max backlight (when outside), much easier. Thanks.
i did a seach and found one .... your just lazy....

I`we searched too and didn`t found any only a program called Backstep but that is for Compaq Devices with pocketPc 2002 and I have an ETEN Wm 6.1 nothing else...I found a lot of apps that can toggle backlight on or of but none of it is what I need . I don`t need a profile manager app, I need an app that can toggle half backlight to max backlight and max backlight to half backlight when I push a hard button (I will map it with aebuttons).
Still nobody can help ?!
look up mvbklight. It's a small today plugin that you can slide to the brightness you want, or just click in the middle for 50%. You can skin it also.
Just make a mortscript request. If there isn't a script out there yet, I'm sure someone could code one in all of 5 minutes.
On my windows folder (Open Touch v4 black lite) there is a program called backlight.exe so I just assigned a button to that. Since the default backlight switch was on battery power it's very convenient and one backlight.exe is running I can use DPAD left and right to increase/decrease backlight.
Thank you all for the answers... I think I will map a button to ,,Scenarios" application to be easier to change the light when I want....It`s still not what I want but this is good too Thanks again. I`ll try in the ,,morscript example" Topic too

That's a pretty jackass answer, don't you think? Any reason why you didn't reply with spmething useful, instead of posting this?
Yeah..that`s what I thought too.... but If he don`t want... You can`t force him to do it anyway. If he`s like that......
i want the vogue backlight to stay OFF when i receive a TEXT.
i've had bad luck with just about all of the locking programs around. i run 6.5, and using the 6.5 lock screen interferes with the jade dialer i use (nfs rom). any other program that uses the basic lock has been unreliable, and S2U2 seems to eat power and has also caused trouble.
i looked everywhere for a possible reg edit to keep the backlight off but no luck.
know how?
Hi!
I just got my new topas and I am wondering if there is a possibility to reduce the brightness of the screen when needed. As a biologist I often observe wildlife at night and look for a way to keep the screen so dim that I can just barely use it in the dark. This would help me keep my visibility down and my night vision up.
Is there any way to do this?
Best regards

Hmm, doesn´t look too easy to use, but I´ll give it a try. Thanks for the quick reply!
The simplest way is to "turn the backlight off" which, with the Topaz, means a very dim backlight. You might find a small app to do that, for which you can put the shortcut in the start menu.
Alternatively, if the dimmest setting of the backlight when it's on is dim enough, you can make a shortcut to take you straight to the wm power settings page. I think the shortcut is: "20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,3" (without the "", just save the plain text file containing the characters as a yourname.lnk file and put it in \windows\start menu\programs folder.
Thanks Pete!
I just made the Lnk-file you suggested, but it´s still opened by word when I run it. I might have to make the file on my pc at home and see if that works out.
I think if I use a red and black desktop theme instead of the blue one I could do with the "backlight off" - option, although I have to try it out in the woods. I´m alway amazed how bright even a little light seems when you´ve been in the dark for some hours.

That's probably because WM file explorer is hiding the true extension (.txt), all you're doing is adding ".lnk" as part of the main filename. Get another file manager, I recommend Total Commander, which shows all files and their true extensions. It's even got a built in text editor, so you can modify and save your file without using Word.
The other thing I've realised since posting my reply, is some of the Control panel shortcuts don't work quite how they used to in previous versions of WM (although they won't do any harm if wrong).
I also came across this the other day http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485141 which I haven't tried yet but sounds just what you're looking for.
I think this is a problem specific to the HD2 - basically, when i leave the phone on the auto backlight setting, it is too bright and therefore draining the battery. of course, setting it manually is a pain and it needs changing as conditions change etc.
What i am wonder is if there is any way of changing the auto so that it is consistently less bright? I have had a dig through the regedit but not really sure what i am looking for or doing!
I was guessing that there was a value that would be assigned to the brightness above the ambient brightness (from the light sensor) - can anyone enlighten me further?
Many thanks (and also for all those other posts i have used to help me make my phone exactly as i like it... CHT, BsB, Scilor etc!)
try Lumos.
nice. almost does too much! but good bit of software thus far. now to do some benchmarking... if only the sun would shine!
Controlling Backlight Settings
I took a different approach to resolve my problem -- keeping auto backlight turned off, but easily changing the backlight settings when I needed to change them. I created a shortcut called Backlight.lnk (that's a lowercase "L", not an "I" I discovered). I used a text editor and put in this line:
12#Powerexe.exe 2 - backlight tab
I saved it with the name Backlight.lnk and copied it to my Start/Programs folder using File Explorer. I moved the shortcut to the top of the Start menu where I can get to it quickly. I just tap Start and the shortcut icon and I am at the Backlight screen where I can quickly change the backlight level or the timeout settings. This saves a few taps compared with going in through the Settings screen.
I had tried Lumos and another program I found on the MS Marketplace, but both caused other problems for me.
PS: I found the line above in a posting at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645916
It's an excellent tutorial on creating all kinds of shortcuts.
Try MVBKLight.
Very handy popup (plus a usefull torch).
I have both Auto and Manual controls. With links I immediately switch between sensor and the MVBKLight slider.
Try searching for autobacklight toggle. Basically, its an icon which when pressed on main screen enables disables autobacklight. So much better than lumos.
