Hi there, I am thinking of changing my ROM to the official Asian 1.66 as it has Chinese support built in and I wont have to bloat out my phone with heaps of fonts, apps and progs to be able to read and type in Chinese (simplified)... (I currently use ce star and touchpal & Sogou ime)... can anyone tell me if the date/day is in Chinese while the menus etc can be in English... thanks
Can no one take a screen shot to show me if the calendar dates/days show in Chinese or not... I can do this in the stock 1.66 if I use CE Star and change the region to China... but if the asian roms can do this then voila, I wont have to bloat the phone with all the other third party apps I have to make it work... cheers
rom for 1.66 asian calander still in english.

thanks for the info... sigh, will stick to my wwe rom for now then...
all you need is to change the locale regional settings to chinese, then the date and calendar will display in chinese.
i find it funny that asian version rom only contains english and chinese languages..
because asia has so many different countries just like europe. however each individual country dont get its own roms like they do in europe. and HTC assumes all asians either speak english or chinese.. which is a poor assumption, since there are many asian countries using the Asian Rom, not being able to even SMS or type in their own language on a phone they buy from the shops !!

Does anybody know where to get the HTC roms ?
A own the HTC P4350, got this from Eplus Germany, but no branding or something...
Now i´m aksing myself where to get the Support / Rom Updates ?
On the HTC Homepage it says that the Operator has to take care of updates...?!
And one more thing: I read that AKU 3 gives possibility to choose the language - Does this mean that all WWE Roms now have my native language (german) inside ?
Thank you !
Only if there're additional "language packs" installed in the ROM.
language packs
And if the language packs are on the rom, how can i change the language then?>
AFAIK this can only be done via a hard-reset. If the device has several language packs in ROM, it should ask you what language you want to use. However, I've yet to see such a device.
Unfortunately, i did not find a source for German Rom Updates till now...
Maybe Vodafone will release such files, because they sell the P4350...Have to wait i guess...
In the course of that WM6 "hype", i read somewhere here that HTC is going to release Windows Crossbow only for some newer Phones amongst others the P4350 !
My current ROM works perfectly, but i just wanted to tell you, if you didn't hear already...Let's wait !
for example: RUU_BlackStone_HKCSL_WWE_1.19.831.0_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe
This is a Hong Kong CSL English Rom.
Can this rom see the traditional/simplified chinese character by default ?
I have try to download the rom, and extract the data from it.
I had no idea if it support displaying the chinese or not...
I am totally new to windows mobile.
The reason I ask this is: I live in HK, I like the English window mobile interface, but I need to see chinese SMS, web browsering and so on...
I don't have this device too, planning to buy one. so...
Really thanks.
Morning, I recently purchased a touch2 from Jordan and everything was in English. Well the other day my son got a hold of the pohne and installed a application that turned almost everything to Arabic. Now, I have NO technical know how when it comes to phones. I keep hearing that i can go in the registry and change it back to english. Do any of you guys know how to do that?
Ps. I tried the hard reset numerous times and it's still in Arabic. Also, I need step by step instructions...Thanks
I have the same problem. I have just bought the phone from the US and the interface language is in Chinese . I want to change it to English.
My phone was in polish loc. and after hard reset i changed loc. in to slovak

To change the language you have to do Hard Reset. After the first run and customize you have to restart the phone.
Then you can change the language.

Honestly - is this really possible? I thought changing the language on any windows mobile phone always needs to flash the ROM, and maybe even need to unlock in some way (hard spl or whatever)...
Basically, if I could really change the language to english, I might be thinking to buy two of those Touch2 here in taiwan for my GF and me... but I can't read chinese, so changing to english would be necessary.
On the other hand, with the ROMs I saw there was no traditional chinese version, just "WWE Asia"... this kinda sounds like there are more languages inside there... hmmm... lets see, I'm off to a HTC store to test this
Yoc can try to install Sunnysoft Interwrite to change a language.
If you chave Sunnysoft Interwrite try to change language in start/settings/system/sunnysoft interwrite.
In home page of this program you can select language without HR, only SR.

I know this is a very late answer within this thread, but yes, that's how it seems to work. For example, I have a Touch Diamond purchased in Slovakia, it is the WWE version. After the first power on, it made me pick between 6 languages: English, Slovak, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian. Once the language is picked, it will update all the system files, and you cannot change the language again.
But if you do a hard reset (like I did today) everything is wiped and the phone will boot just like it did the first time - going through all the initial configuration, etc. And it will allow you to select the OS language again.
Now, I don't know what languages may be included with phones sold in Asia. Above is just to give you an idea how the localization stuff worked on my Diamond.

By the way, no, there is no way to change the language with WWE ASIA or also the traditional chinese HK version. You can hard reset as often as you want, no menu pops up.
So I guess that's a special feature of some select ROMs, like the one for the mentioned middle/east european languages.
But now with HardSPL we can at least flash all ROMs that are available, so I got my Touch2 from the store in Taiwan already flashed with WWE and HardSPL. Now I changed to WWE ASIA and that's pretty good already
In a nutshell: Changing languages (with a few exceptions) requires HardSPL and flashing a ROM.
There is no way on ASIA ROM cause its basicly not WWE, but Asia ROM. HTC has many ROMs with specific language in them.

You are fully correct....changing language is for a selected number of Rom's. Since quite some people (incl myself) like this idea have asked some Rom cookers to built this feature as standard eg. have dual language options. Sofar unfortunately no reaction.....
So I think basically it is possible but not available. If more people ask for it.....it will happen someday either via HTC or XDA.
Trying to understand the differences between the Asian HD2 SKUs. HTC support says that since HTC doesn't/can't sell in mainland China that their phones only support CHT (Chinese traditional character set). I am trying to find which region's model support CHS (Chinese simplified character set).
I was hoping to find a factory ROM/SKU with CHS support so I know what region to order my phones from. Eventually I will be dealing with 20+ phones so I'm trying to avoid having to flash/support a custom ROM image.
I know that there are custom ROMS (Lost in Asia being an example) that claim CHS support. Does anyone know what original OS they sourced support for CHS EZInput (IME/SIP)?
I'll follow up with the information I am able to collect. I know that some people have tried to make a .cab of CHS EZInput, but have not heard about it working.
thanks

Get the Singapore or Hongkong WWE version. It supports CHS by default and have chinese pinyin/hand writing IME include in the default input.
I am using the stock 1.66.707.1 which comes with my singapore set so its confirmed.
And for your info, HTC does not sell directly in China as HTC-branded but as DOPOD. Dopod is part of HTC. There are CHS ROM for the Dopod HD2 which is usable for the HTC HD2. But normally, chefs usually avoid them as their SKUs and embedded software versions are usually lower than the WWE version. Chinese Chefs usually will extract the 0804 from the DOPOD CHS ROM and mixed with the latest WWE rom to produce the custom CHS roms.
HD2s from Singapore come with CHS support. The official 1.66 SEA WWE ROM comes with CHS support as standard. On the other hand, Hong Kong phones have CHT support, but until today, HTC still hasn't released an official 1.66 WWE ROM for Hong Kong. Hong Kong phones can also read CHS, but writing/typing is CHT only.
BTW, don't believe what HTC is saying about not being able to sell their phones in China, since there are lots and lots of HTC phones for sale in Shenzhen, including the HD2.
A good/stable Cooked ROM with CHS support is Merlion LEO. I have the V1.90 installed on my phone, and so far, it has been absolutely stable and flawless.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this info. It is like pulling teeth to get info out of HTC support.
I think we are going to go with the Singapore HD2 SKU as we definitely need CHS input/display.
Just a few confirmations about the Singapore HD2:
What language is the operating system in? Should I expect any hassles choosing CHS vs CHT for input? Are there any other hardware or application differences from a WWE phone?
The Dopod would definitely be an option, but there is some concern that our research software may not run correctly on a native Chinese OS.
Ok now to hunt down more specifics about the Singapore HD2, any good links besides HTC's site?
Thank you both very much. Have a great day.
One clarification. I need the CHS input to be from the native HTC EzInput keyboard, not a 3rd party app like CE Star.

I use touch pal to do this and it works like a charm...
HTC is not sold in China officially, but you can find plenty of shuihuo ones around...

The 1.66.707.1 firmware has the CHS input from the native HTC keyboard.
Did previous versions not use the native HTC keyboard for CHS input? Did they use A4 or something?
Interesting stuff, thanks for the reply. Wish I had my HD2 in front of me to flash and verify to my manager.
since the singapore rom is actually the "South East Asia" rom,
i wonder if it has keyboards for all the other south east asian countries such as thailand, vietnam, korea, japan etc..
Its good that its got chinese. but asia does not = just chinese.. so im wondering if all the othre asian language inputs are supported or not ? =) Thanks

More language problems
I have a xiaomi redmi 2 bought in 2015 July. It has a lot of languages from all around the world, and catalan was on it. I updated the rom and now I lost most of the languages, included catalan and other european languages, such as german... although the rom version was EU.
How can I recover the lenguages?
How can I know the languages included in a rom before installing it?
In a GLOBAL rom will I find the catalan language?
I'm new in all this things... so thank you very much for helping me!!
