Email problem - HD2 General

I tried searching the forums but can't find an answer.
I'm in the UK with a t-mobile HD2
I've followed the instructions and have flashed the HSPL and HTC issue roms
The phone currently sits on
OS Ver
5.2.21869
Manila 2.5.19211619.0
Rom
1.66.405.2
Radio
2.06.51.07
Protocol
15.30.50.07u
The problem is that My email (madasafish server and Hotmail) will only download when I'm connected to the wifi at home (not tried it on any other wifi yet) But will not download over any other connection. I have the data switch toggled to On etc.
Any tips please.
Thanks

can you browse the web over mobile data? does weather and such like work when not connected to wifi?

I've got nearly the same problems.
Email will be fetched via WiFi, and (!!) if data connection is OFF :?
If the data connection is on, the email client shows an error. (and - that refers not directly to that email problem - sometimes the data connection loses login information and cannot connect)
you see - you are not alone, but unfortunately I cannot offer a solution...

T-Mob UK sets up a proxy by default, but strangely it won't actually work with it. You just have to disable the proxy settings and it should all work ok.
Settings | Connections | Set up my proxy server, then un-tick the 'This network uses a proxy' box.

That seems to have done the trick. Many thanks.
Will it need turning back on for any reason??

No, there is no reason that I have found to need to turn it back on. I have no idea why they have set it up that way in the first place.
Good luck and now you can enjoy your phone.
Next you will want to get rid of that crappy stock ROM and get one of the chef's ROMs on your device so it will really fly

The tmobile settings can be found by searching the forums - they are in a few places.
Which ROM did you use - most now include the Network Wizard which will run automatically after upgrade. If not it is at Start\Settings\Connections. That will insert the correct settings for you.
Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.
ROM Version - 2.20.405.1
ROM Date - 06/21/07
Radio Version - 1.32.00.00
ExtROM - 2.20.405.101
Yes the Network Wizard is there and it puts the settings in but to no avail.
The 3G logo comes up and i have 4 bars to show high signal strength but whenever i try to connect to the net it says the modem you are connecting to has dropped the connection.
Can anyone point me to the correct thread?
Thanks
Alan
One more thing I did upgrade to real vga 128dpi
in connection settings change user name from
t-mobile to user

The connections settings are correct using the Network Wizard. The problem you are having may actually be a network problem. I get this from time to time with T-mobile UK - I will get this message for a couple of hours and it will then just stop (it often stops more quickly if I am on the move which I assume is becuase I am moving cells)
How do you mean you are 'no longer receiving texts'? is this a common request to cusomer services!?
Anyway as far as I know you cannot have settings sent by text to the Ameo, or any windows mobile device - you have to input them manually or use the settings wizard.
Try going on settings/phone/band and change to GSM - see if you still fail to get a connection. If so try upgrading your radio, then reflashing.
If this fails try another t-mobile SIM in the Ameo.
Your error is not one I have ever come across on T-Mobile uk using my Ameo.
T-Mobile settings:
Start - Settings - Connection - Connection - Under my ISP click on Manage Existing Conn.
Delete all connections in there, and click on Proxy at the bottom and remove the tick on this network requires Proxy.
Create a new connection:
Cell Line (GPRS)
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
Username: user
Password: pass
No DNS, no IP, no proxy.
Save and soft reset.
Good luck.
Thanks everyone!
Eventually got this sorted.
Works like a dream now
Reflashed, used the wizard and all is well in the world.
Is anyone having a problem with media player?
Every time I launch media player the ameo crashes (as in locks).
Thanks again

Current T-mob phones are coming out with USER as t-mobile, however, user still seems to work.
PASSWORD- pass
APN- general.t-mobile.uk
Again some units come with a Proxy pre installed (My N95 did)-
149.254.201.132
Proxy port- 8080
If this doesn't work then use without.
Also try a DNS server setting-
DNS 4.2.2.1
Alt DNS 4.2.2.2

Can I have one connection for all internet apps?

Just upgrade to newest TMO ROM for a Universal, prior to that was using stock ROM and was able to get email and surf with one connection with this new ROM I have 2 connections 1.for email and 1.for internet. but now if I get a link in an email I have to disconnect the first connection; connect with the second connection just to look at the link? Is it possible to have it like I did before and have one connection for all internet activities? Without downgrading.
This new ROM has "push mail" don't know if that makes a difference?
I have no idea what configuration you actually have, but there is no reason you need separate connections on any ROM.
Its hard to tell without knowing the exact settings but try this:
Go in to Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection
You will see two drop-down lists, select 'My ISP' in both of them.
This should get both your email and explorer to use the same connection.
ok, I'm using TMO pay-as-you-go with the cheap plan, it seems after I updated my ROM I had to create 2 connections 1. using a proxy server(PIE) and the other without a proxy server(email). Without the proxy server I can't use PIE and with the proxy server no emails; what i'm looking for is the happy median.
Device: 02 XDA UNI
ROM: latest TMO ROM
RADIO: 1.17
Thanks for the reply.
I'm trying to figure out this same problem. I'm running a tmobile WING with pdaviet's ROM ver 4.10.07.14 WWE Radio version 02.83.90 and have to use dual connections to access email and web. I'm using the T-Zones proxy for my internet connection.
T-Zones access point wap.voicestream.com
proxy server 216.155.165.50:8080
and
T-Mobile Data access point wap.voicestream.com
no proxy settings
It seems far fetched to think there may be a way to have one connection try to establish and bypass to the secondary if there's no connect. Maybe i'm just missing something here. Let me know if you have any ideas.

WiFi and proxy

Hello,
I have HTC Touch, and I'm trying to connect to wifi with ISA proxy.
First, I connected to home wifi (no proxy) and accessed internet without problem.
At work we have Radius etc. but I also connected, and I can surf to pages inside company (no need for proxy), but I can't get out to internet.
Any suggestion would be great!
tnx
small update: looks like I was surfing at work through usb cable, not wifi. But now I can't even connect to wifi at work, which I could before. Funny things going on, I'll reset.
Update2:
Newest status is: wifi connected, can surf internal sites, but can't go outside company network.
I suspect that IE is not going through the proxy at all. Which implicates that I don't know how to setup IE to use proxy on WM6???
If you edit "My Work Settings" thru Settings -> Connections -> Connections you can edit the proxy settings there. Then you say "connect to internet" thru "My Work Settings". I may be wrong, but I think you need to reset the pda as well...
OK, here are my settings:
under settings-connections-connections, advanced - select networks:
"Programs that automatically connect to Internet should connect using:" My Work Network.
When I click Edit, under Modem, there are no entries.
Under Proxy settings, "This network connects to internet" and "this network uses a proxy.." are both checked.
"Proxy server" field is disabled.
Under Advanced:
Socks line has serverort next to it. Others are empty. Server and port are good.
I click ok on all and go to IE. Type www.google.com, it says "Locating.." and that's all. Internal web sites are opening ok.
I tried to turn it off, and back on.
Tried google, not working.
I checked all settings once again and tried then, still nothing.
This is a common problem and I have not found a solution for it myself yet.
The proxy settings are lost when you apply them, and the SOCKS server settings behaves weirdly.
Anyone knows what can be done?
i want to know how to do this too... my school is also using the same system.
still no update
no update ??
configfree from Toshiba
Dear,
I had an old E800 from toshiba where configfree is installed. With this program I can configure proxy for wifi in 10 sec and it works.
does someone know where we can find this program for other PDA. I want to try it on my Cruise.
Vincent
I'm also having the same issue. Can anyone help, please?
From my experiences I can tell you: THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE HTC AND HTTP PROXY FOR WIFI RUN. Neither with WM6.0 nor 6.1 nor a special brand nor the original firmware.
I have tried to inform HTC support, but I'm extremely pessemistic, that at least one will care. It seems to be not a WM related problem, because my WM6 ASUS doesn't have that issue.
There is a work around for browsers only: Don't use Pocket IE, use Minimo, because this browswer has it's own proxy setup. But it doesn't help you much, if you want to use other applications.
EDIT: Just to inform you, what happens, if you upgrade to WM6.1: The proxy settings are kept (HURRRAY) ---- but ignored completely It's _that_ brain damaged...

I can confirm the same "symptoms": proxy is totally being ignored on WM6.1. However, they're kept when you close the settings.

Proxy over WiFi works for me and has done with my previous HTC Wizard and now with my Kaiser. I have checked with a sniffer that I am definitely using the proxy over port 8080 (MS ISA 2006).
I have explained this before but this is how my device is setup.
ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre - Connection Settings set to 'This computer is connected to: Work Network' - Setting this to Automatic or The Internet deletes any Proxy Settings on the device when you connect it.
WiFi. My home WiFi SSID Network set to 'Connects to: Work'
Connections. 'Tasks' tab - Two settings 'My ISP' & 'My Work Network'. Advanced Tab, Select Networks. Top settings 'Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: My ISP'. Bottom settings 'Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: My Work Network'. Under 'My ISP' I have the GPRS details for my carrier (Vodafone). Under 'My Work Network' I have a proxy defined with the Advanced settings configured - HTTP set to my proxy with the port 8080 and Socks set to my proxy with port 1080.
That's it and has worked for me since Windows Mobile 6.0 appeared for the Wizard. I used the same settings when I first got my Kaiser with WM 6.0 and now with WM 6.1 (more or less stock 5.2.19212) and it has worked every time.

Email setting on dual touch

I can not use any of my email accounts (gamail, yahoo) on my phone,
when I press send/recive appears message:
cannot connet with current cooneting setting, if you want to change go on connection settings
but my internet (Explorer or Opera) is working perfectly
if anyone have a clue please save me
Did you set up the incoming/outgoing servers manually?
I'm not sure if it's the case but I registered at izymail.com and then used the izymail servers and it works a charm.
How about you try that?
E-Mail issue to be solved!
What providers (GSM and mail) do you use?
I do have the same problem and several others posted exactly this issue in several other threads.
This definitely is a problem which hasn't been solved.
Isn't there a charming developer out there who knows how to solve this
By the way, recommending to change the e-mail provider does not really help and obviously not solve the issue!
Did you choose a connection in Email setup? My Dual asks me which connection (internet, business, vpn etc.) to use. It's in the window for smtp server under advanced options. There you can select the correct setting. Maybe you have the wrong in there.
Cheers, Dennis
Maybe there's a proxy set in your 3g connection. I have vodafone and is automatically setups a proxy, which causes email and live messenger problems. Just disabling the proxy in connection settings worked for me.
No Proxy
I figured something strange out. If I disconnect the 3G connection in the Comm manager, then press send/receive the device once connects with the e-mail server and even downloads the headers. As soon as I want to download an e-mail I get the same message again: "Could not connect to server, check your inbox account login-information"!
That drives me insane! If I disconnect again from 3G and then press send/receive it works again - JUST ONCE.
It's the same for POP or IMAP.
Would be nice if somebody could help out.
Thanks in adavance
I have had exactly the same problem since I installed the Mary 6 ROM on my touch dual and have the problem with two different email accounts so It's definitely not an issue with those settings.
When you install the new ROM it auto detects your network (I'm on T- mobile UK) and sets up all of the connections automatically so I'm guess the problem lies there.
Does anyone know where I can verify that these settings are correct?

I had the same problem on t-mobile uk after flashing the new official 6.1 rom.
I solved it by disabling the proxy server START-SETTINGS-CONNECTIONS-CONNECTIONS-MANAGE EXISTING CONNECTIONS-PROXY SETTINGS. Internet access still works I also did a hard reset after flashing the rom, but that may not be relevant.

Connection error

so my pro.lem is that i get a connection erro on twitter , hotmail and weathe. somehow the hd2 thinks thatim roaming since it asks me aboutroaming befor setting up hotmail and weather.but im not. any suggestions?
What mobile provider are you with - if it's T-mobile then I am guessing your hotmail problem is the usual proxy server problem which has been covered in a number of threads - go to settings, click menu then all settings, click on Connections, click on connections, click on set up my proxy server (you'll need iddy biddy fingers) then remove teh tick in the 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet' box.
As far as your other data problems - they sound very similar to mine:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=586199
I haven't tried Twitter but I am guessing I'd have the same problems.
Tried calling T-mobile - but they don't support the non T-Mobile branded version of the phone.
Yup, it's sounds as it may be that (if you're on T-Mobile) - Rovex suggested the same as above, and that seemed to do the trick.
im not on tmobile. But you're right! somehow there were Proxy Settings (by default?) i deleted that and now everything is working like a charm
