[Q] How to disable power on device when sliding keyboard? - Omnia II General

Hi there,
Anybody found a reg tweak (or cab) to disable the power on when you slide out the keyboard? I tried the tweak of HTC's Raphael (and Kaiser) but it did not work..
I want to be able to slide the keyboard (e.g. in my pocket) without losing battery power..
If anybody knows the trick, please post the solution. Thanks in advance!

What exactly do you mean by sliding the keyboard out without losing power?

The question is, i believe, how to prevent the device from waking up when the keyboard slides open?
And that i would like to know also if it's possible. I know you can do it on the Touch Pro by moding the registry.

ok, now I understand what it meant.... But, just out of curiosity, what's the purpose of sliding the keyboard in and out, if you're not intending to use the phone? (Just for admiring the craftmanship of the beautiful keyboard??? h.e.e.e..e. )

That's exactly what the question was. In a bag the phone could slide open. because the phone wakes up the battery drains faster. It was a reg key on the Touch Pro but that reg key didn't work on the Omnia.
For now it's not interesting for me anymore, because the Omnia was stolen last week, but I think other users may be interested in this feature.

I'm really sorry that your omnia was stolen. Didn't you activate the mobile tracker service? it could help you trying to get it back...

Mobile tracker wasn't set up yet, too bad, but thanks for the help.

Remapping D-Pad while on Phone screens

I've been searching for a while for a re-mapper/utility that will remap the d-pad to move around the numbers while on the Phone screen. Currently the D-pad does nothing while you're in the Phone dialing or call screen. It would make the Wiz into a great one-handed device if I can get the D-pad to move around the on-screen numbers pad. The center button can emulate pressing of the on-screen numbers. This way I can use one hand to enter the phone number and not having to use use my hands or the stylus while on-the-go.
I know I can slide out the keyboard but are you able to slide the KB out with 1 hand and use the number keys? I tried and it's VERY awkward and you'll have to remember to press the dot twice to enable the numbers. I'd rather not do that in a time of emergency.
Any one has tried to make this happen? Is there an app out there which will do this? This plus smartkeys/smallmenu will make the Wiz the ultimate one-handed device.
Anyone? am I the only one with a Wiz wishing for this function? I guess people like touching the screen with their hands more than I thought...
I would really be interested in something that could achieve this. I have my K-JAM in a PDAir case and being able to simply dial numbers with the keypad would be great. Rather than scroll through the contact list or opening the cover to access the keypad.
On Himalaya the D-pad had function in the dialer to get to call history and speed dial. That would help too.

hi all,
A cool Japanese Freeware called FakeCursor does this. It doesn't tab between fields, but emulates a Dpad controlled 'mouse'.
There is a program called AEKmap that allows you to remap the keyboard.
I have attached several layouts I made for the Phone and Calculator for use with AEKmap. (2 of the layouts work in AEKmap free mode, the other 6 require $20 activation to avoid NAG screen.)
Joeman
btw on my qtek9100 the keyboard is automatically in number mode while in the phone application. I don't need to push the blue dot twice.
I'd just as soon se a remapper that brought back the WM 2003SE phone functionality (right - Call Histtoey, left - Speed dial, etc.)
It's a shame M$ took that out in WM5
*One WM5 developer*

*Everyone else there*
"BRILLIANT!!!"

Did anyone create an aek file for mapping the alfa keys of the hardware k/b to the phonepad values.
ie: pressing a, b or c generates the code that is recognized by smartdialer (and interpreted as a, b or c respectively)
This way we can use the h/w keyboard letter-keys in the smartdialer!
This is especially handy when youre using the Wizard in your car in the landscape brodit holder (on-screen 'keys' are simply too small to be used safely)
it would be very cool.
wonder if Water can extend SmartyKeys for that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060

damn i'll try on hermes too ....and on my artemis ....
but in my ce emulator it also didn't work fully correct....
sometimes i just get black buttons....
It works on my Trinity (WM6) but not the symbol page. But I'm ok with it. Like the 'intelligence' of this over T9, but the scroll left and right (on screen) button is a bit too 'small' and near the edge for ease of scrolling. If that can be fixed, it will be even more perfect.
no good for elf
when i set in french language they a are no letters on keypad
thank you
Anyone manage to 'perfect' this beta version?
While it is useable, without the symbol can pose some inconvenience when you need the symbols.
It works fine on my touch. To get the symbols in blue you press and hold the key. It takes a little getting used to so you don't end up with .. but it does work.
For those getting blank screens, this should only happen when you bring up the keypad without selecting a text field. Meaning if you are in a selected text box the keys should display.
Another bug I found was if you install this keypad and then choose another one that you have installed (pocketCM, HTK, etc), it will not display any text. It's like you are typing in white. The cursor advances, but no text displays. I had to un-install this keypad to get my other input methods to work.
It may sound a little obsesive, but I timed myself using this new touch dual keypad and my pocketCM skin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1597831&postcount=21) and every time I was able to type faster and more accurate with the pocketCM version. It was close (1:11 vs 1:08) for a couple sentances. I'm glad to see HTC putting a real finger operational keyboard on the Touch, but for now I will stick with pocketCM.
works on the mogul, install, soft reset...

Nah man, that's a great idea. I think a "type-off" of sorts is a good way to determine what's best; although everyone has difference preferences, I think 90% of us subconsciously type the same.
any status on a new version that works a little better?
thx.
e..b
working on Hermes!
Its working fine on my Hermes WM6. Still get the blank buttons when trying to use it outside an application. But within application (e.g. Onecontact, IE ect..) all working fine. Even symbol key is working fine.
Its a great keyboard (esp. the T9 version)...First keyboard where the buttons are large and responsive (iv used sooo many now!).
btw...dont forget to softreset after installation before use!
No symbols
I get all the characters and numbers but the symbols are all blank. I am in the UK. Otherwise it's okay. I personally don't like PocketCM because unless there is lots of free memory it just pops up the default keyboard for me.
is there any way to turn the xt9 off i used the keypad for 5 mins adn when i switched to the normal keyboard the xt9 was still there.. can it be turned off?
^^yeah I found that incredibly annoying, I LOVE this keyboard but I had to uninstall it because the T9 would be there even when using the hardware keyboard!
Can anyone post any pics of this keyboard?
Yeah...T9 still there on hardware keyboard is really annoying!

Can you smart people help us owners with front facing keypads?

Hello. On the samsung i760 the front keypad does not have any sort of t9 mapped to it. This was a function that alot of us expected and I was wondering if its possible for someone in this forum to pull the feature off your phone and put it into a .cab file(donations would be made!!). I am not sure this is even possible but Im trying everything. Thanks
The reason we got devices with the form factor of front 12 key and slider QWERTY is because sometimes we don't need to type out a full message and T9 does fine on the front keypad. I can't see why there is any good reason for Samsung to have left this functionality out. What a dumb idea.
anyone please?
bump please?
anyone please?
I would love to see T9 on it also, but I dont think there are many working on the i760. Samsung isnt as easy to hack as HTC.
My two Himalayas (HTC) don't even have T9 predictive text on it. Does your phones at least have auto correcting text? IE if you type "Youre" and press the space bar does it turn into "You're" or "Teh" into "The"?
Yes it the auto correct and predictive text
I lost those features after installing and then un-installing the Diamond keypad.
You could hard reset...
hard reset and backup brings out the files. The issue is the backup also has the issues as it is in the registry.
Now that alot of people have Windows 6.1 on their i760's now, does that make it any easier to hack or add t9, or does that not change a thing.
Have a look at the demo of this... tell me if it helps at all...

Hi, is there a keyboard with 5 rows (numbers visible) that you can still accuratly press keys with your fingers? Because my passwords contain both numbers and letters and i have to enter them a lot :-( Thanks.

I recommend Fingerkeyboard. It is free, highly customizable and does a great job. See my signature for the link. You can create your own layout if you want. I think other users have already made a layout with 5 rows, but if not, you can make your own. It is pretty easy. You can also see my signature for a basic tutorial on editing layouts. You decide what keys you wnat, where you want them, and what characters you want each key to type. If you have questions, you can post them in the Fingerkeyboard 2.1 thread here.
Another good keyboard if you prefer sliding instead of typing is SlideIT by Dasur. It costs $15 and does a great job. You can type (i.e. slide) really fast with it. It also supports many languages. You can view their homepage here.
Thank you!

I ready that fingerkeyboard had problems with the HD2, can you confirm that it works well, and what version are u using?
Today i tried TouchPal. it is the BEST keyboard for the HD2 (at least for me).
It is so east to type accurately now.
i agree with Touch Pal i can write extremly fast plus a lower sensitive cab installation is just perfect - at least for me.

one of the reasons that FK had problems with the HD2 is the speed of the capacitive screen. Some people correct that with the lesss sensitive Cab on this site. With FK go to options and delay the two hold times. I've set the left one to 400 instead of 250 and the right one to 250. Now FB works well on the HD2.
Chriss: can you confirm this and also tell us what the left and right one are for???
I installed TouchPal and thought it was pretty naff compared to the standard HTC keyboard, to be honest. I can type faster and mode accurately using the standard keyboard. In fact, this post was written using it!

And @kuzibri: what do you mean with "what the left and right one are for"?

in the options tab there are two response time possibilities, eg left and right one.
I've tried a few of the others now, but still easily prefer the HTC supplied keyboard. I just wish it had the same gesture support as the WM default keyboard.
just another suggestion for a good keyboard for HD2: Cliquick. This also rotates the screen to landscape when pressing the .,123 key in whichever program you're in. You can find it here: http://cliquick.com/
edit: you can also set it to be your default SIP in the option settings.
Anyone happen to try SlideIt (http://www.dasur.co.il/Product/SlideIT/SlideIT.php) on the HD2? If not, anyone feel like trying the demo & letting me know how it works?

yes, I tried it. Its awesome in terms of speed and ease of use, but cannot switch to landscape mode. When you switch to landscape, e.g. in Opera, the screen gets messed up with this keyboard and a soft reset is needed. If I only was to use portrait mode, this would be the keyboard of choice.
Now that has become Cliquick. This even switches Word Mobile to landscape when you press the ",.123" key without using a third party sensor app like Gyrator or ChangeScreen. It comes with a 60 day trial and, if you do not want to buy it therafter, you can still use it for a max of 100 chars a day.
Let me throw ShapeWriter into the mix also.
Takes some getting used to but unce you've got it, it's much faster than a regular keypad (imo)

It's a pitty that this is only in English si I canot use it. BTW, it has great resemblance with Dasur's SlideIT. That one is blazing fast and easy to use (and supports several languages), but its main flaw is that it does not support landcsape. In this orientation it messes up the screen and a soft reset is needed. Otherwise this would be my nr 1 keyboard. Now that is Cliquick.

Sounds like the exact problem I have on my Advantage (the rotation issue). I've been the only one to report it, so I'm forwarding your note here as well.
I'll have to try Cliquick. Is this the one where you have to hit the same key several times to get different letters (like hit ab to get "a" and hit it again to get "b" ? Guess I'll find out.
Glad to hear the SlideIT works well except for the rotation issue, so if they can fix it, I'll be very happy.
I have noticed the latest version of Fingerkeyboard refusing to open when my HD2 (Leo) has come out of standby - can't recall what was running just prior so haven't raised it with the creator yet. I couldn't open another keyboard so had to take the battery out on the two occassions it happened.
A keyboard I have been using of late, as it worked well on my Touch HD is Zoomboard
I have tried both slideit and shapewriter and on the HD2 I much prefer slide it, its mainly due to how it handles the irratic behaviour of the capacitive screen, I mean HTC need to fix up its response, in shapewriter the line drawn with your finger tends to be scribbled everywhere missing letters, to much lesser extent on slidit, the keys are much easier to hit in slideit imo. the finger sliding keyboards are the way to go either way, I can type so much faster with slidit and takes only little parctice to get a real knack of it ... slideIT is fantastic

TMOUS HD2 Keyboard...Holy monkey its whacked

Ok so first off.. Ive seen a few keyboard mods but nothing great.
My first complaint. Why in the world did they put a T9/ABC toggle switch right under the letter A?? Maaan its complete hell! I hate it with a purple passion!
has anyone hid it or put it away in a pop-up menu where it belongs??
second... has anyone gotten rid off the freakin UP/DOWN, LEFT/RIGHT arrows??
They do more bad then good.. always hitting them by accident and its a pain like no other..
Has anyone removed those as well? With them gone you can actually have less screen real estate taken as well..
I really hope someone on here looks into this.. I would do it but i dont know how :/
on another note.. or question.. does lowering the screen sensitivity help with the keyboard?? anyone have experience with this?
Try some other keyboards. Fingerkeyboard is popular, as is swype.

Yes, deffinitely, the first thing I do when i reflash/hard reset is apply screen desensitivity tweak. Most people will say teh same.
I already tried that keyboard and it sux too. so nothing really can be done about it? is there a way to mod the keyboard to get rid of that toggle switch and arrows?
Use the compact qwerty, it's a lot easier to type on it.
Other suggestions...
Swype, SlideIT, or ShapeWriter.
Otherwise, you could SKIN the Swype keyboard with the HTC design... that way the keyboard layout isn't so unusual.
I prefer using the HTC keypad in FULL QWERTY form, and ABC, versus T9.
Plus, I've altered the "wait time" or responsiveness for key taps. It's set to 375 by default, but a little registry tweak... and now mine is 100. So the keys respond instantaneously.

Doesn't sipchange allow you to do the same thing. A little warning to all. If you install sipchange to your phone you'll never be able to completely erase it.

I don't and haven't used SIPChange, but that tweak I mentioned is a registry edit that I did myself. But yes, there are threads in the HTC LEO section that discuss the exact directory values you must change to achieve this result.
Yup, I searched AFTER I asked lol. Found it, will try it later, thanks.
I feel the SAME exact way as the OP, I hate the arrows for the same reasons... I have tried several keyboards with multiple issues....(EzInput which had the layout I was looking for, then fbkeyboard i think is the name? ...then roscos keyboard, then another I forgot the name of ) and now finaly I am stuck trying to use the swype keyboard, which imo works better than stock but its negligable and I just wish that EzInput worked correct for me =\
can i pay someone to fix this??
i would gladly do it.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I was first trying out swype. The layout is the best I have seen for an onscreen keyboard IMO, and if someone could create a skin for the stock keyboard that would be fantastic!
The keyboard on the energy rom is real nice, gives space between the letters and lessens mistakes by 1000%. Would be cool if you could import that keyboard into the stock rom, but I'm lovin energy so far so Ill just stick with it.
I would pay someone to skin a iphone keyboard onto the stock HTC keyboard. *HINT HINT*
