I haven't asked anything, only people to share their experience flashing ROMs, I spent a lot of time trying cooked, so not every ROM is great, I came back to stock ROM 7 times.
Anyway, you can put it sticky, if aren't more than 100 replies in 24h you can erase it...

Personally think this thread is a good idea for people like myself don't have a lot of spare time and haven't flashed a ROM yet; but are interested in doing so and want to know a good place to start, based on more seasoned users experiences.
I for one will be keenly viewing this thread (provided it doesn't get closed!).

Please don't start Best ROM threads, they are overly subjective. Just find your own ROM, they're free and only take a few minutes to Flash.

You should try some out and find the one that suites you. If you are worried about bricking the phone than don't install a custom ROM on it. I have used several the last week or so and of course I have a favorite ROM as well but the choice is individual.
Actually, I would like to know this too.. Im all new to this world of custom ROMs, and I fid it hard to see precisely what everything does, and what makes it uniqe.. For a newb like me, this is indeed hard.

Give hime some credit....80 plus posts not bad, maybe migrated from another device...
If you don`t want to risk bricking your phone then simple NO FLASH NO RISK....
IF you want all the lastest stuff pick a rom you like the contents of....
Personaly i`m on miri at the mo, Might give NRG a try when its released...
Once you start flashing you`ll get the buzz and you`ll want the latest revision all the time....
Good luck, and there`s allways some one willing to help out,
Next time i`d tag your question onto an allready running post about best roms, Do a search and try not to start a new thread....

I am new to it all as well, but didn't have keept me from trying out 5 different roms and I am trying a few more when they are released as well.
The best roms i have tested is the Topix 1.1 and the XT Pandora 1.0 which I am using now. The thing I like about them both is the are really fast and responsive. The Pandora rom has more software installed from the start which can be both good and bad. The collection of apps in pandora suits me well, the topix had to get a few pieces of software installed.
Admins and many people dont like topics like that because they bring us to endless discussions. Some people are fan of that rom others are fan of another one and start to 'battle' here.
As far as i know there are five or six roms around here. Thats not to much to try.

As everyone else said don't flash if you are scared! if you read well and follow instructions there is no reason you brick your device ...
If you are:
1. Looking for stable and fast 6.5 ROM I reccomend Miri
2. Looking for stable and fast 6.5.x ROM with menubar at the bottom try Maati
so do what the rest of us do and test. I tried 4 ROMs the first day SSPL was released and have now settled on my fav. People who have been flashing for a while do have preferred cookers but as you are new i would try 3 or 4 and try them. The Rom Posts always tell you what is included as extras and what they have removed from the standard apps that come with it to either speed it up or make a little mnore space.
Do some more research if needed but dont come asking what the best ROM is as it all comes down to personal opinion in the end anyway. Take buying a Car yes you might ask people which to buy but in the end you will test drive a few then settle on which is the best for YOU. It's the same with ROMs.
As for worrying about bricking your phone as long as you follow the instructions you should be fine. I have been doing this for a couple of years now and the only issue i have ever had was flashing a Security unlocked Radio because i didnt pay attention to what the instructions said.

For answer what's best now, i would like to say, stock 1.61 is best one.
Try alot of cook Rom so far, but no one still now is stable, all of them cause a system freeze on my phone.
Note that HD2 is very fast and have a high hardware performance allready, so rom cook needed stable at the first.

I agree with you. Make a big round trying all the custom roms , now I'm back to 1.61 stock rom. 1.61 is fast and stable. Gonna wait till the custom roms are stable first before I use them for daily usage.

I agree with this. I have since gone back to 1.48 (+ hotfixes + 1.61 radio, so it's basically 1.61 in German). In particular, WM6.5.3 seems to cause a few problems. I am sure this will get fixed in due time. What the OP was in a way criticizing is the fact that many custom roms have third party apps and themes built in - which is very much a matter of taste. I personally look forward to this:
- Clean 6.5.3(.3) OS
- HTC Sense + other stock apps patched so they do not conflict with 6.5.3.
- No custom themes / icons etc unless they are provided as optional addon.
From my Kaiser i still remember the "UC" method, where cabs were optionally added after flash depending on the what you put in a text file. I think this was the best compromise.
So the newest official rom is the best? And after installing that i have to tweak everything?
aint it possible to delete everything and just install a fresh windows mobile and htc sense, and go on yourself with stuff i want? Or is it not possible/not a good idea?

i dont think the official rom can beat the two latest cooked roms i have used. the topix and pandora are faster and more smooth and still has the htc software as well
i tried em all
i really wish to take some thing from everything
but back to miri
man that rom is super fast
it just needs some folders and some apps thats all
i am on miri's too.. didn't try others but coming from 1.43 stock it was much smoother!!!

Although I like your common sense argument, I wonder if it holds when you realise that a stock rom with a gazillion tweaks, utilities and driver updates added isn't realy a stock rom anymore.
So what's better: to go for a tweaked rom that is tested and shared by a community of users, or to soft-modify a rom yourself?
The only thing I'm a bit worried about is how save my data are on a customed rom. I mean aren't they a bit "hacker" prone? Not that i mistrust the chefs, but the components they use, how trustworthy are they?
EDIT: but then again, also installed utilities, programs etc. could potentialy hijack my personal data.... (so not maybe the worry isn't very realistic)

clean ROM for HD2

Can you please help me to find clean ROM for HD2? Without the added applications, only OS + basic stuff and patches. I'm not using them anyway or can install them when needed .

He don't want extra applicatons.
The stockrom and artemis has also lots of applications.
Bing,Windows marketplace,JBlend etc...
In my opnion this are extra apps you can install them also manually.
Clean ex does not contain that apps.

I do agree with you on this point, but build in apps, and IMHO in Artemis the extra build in apps are all useful and not crap or abundant, are faster than manually installed apps. The OP does not have to follow my suggestion, but Artemis is the closest to what he wants, This is my personal opinion.

7 Proofs why we should use recommended WINMO Rom in testing/choosing Android build

1. [BUILD][04.11.2010] [Core Droid V0.6][SUPERSONIC (EVO 4G)][Kernel Hastarin #R8]
Instructions:
- Make Sure you have a Windows Build and Radio Compatible with Android you can use any of my ROMS since they are the ones i use too test Android so they are 100% compatible.
- If you already have an Android folder on your SD Card DELETE IT OR RENAME IT, because this version MAY BE INCOMPATIBILE with other builds.
- Extract the Android folder (with all files in in) to root of your SD Card. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
- After copyng everything to your SD Card ensure you have at least 1200 Mb free space for data store.
- On first run when there is “Creating a new data.img” just give it time to complete, and on first boot be patient and give it time to load everything.

I really don't understand what's wrong whit those threads, i mean, if you look in Development forum there are many Custom Roms topics, every chef gave description of what does and doesn't work in theyr roms, there are people that report back issue and not of that roms, so what i'm asking to myself is:
Is it really necessary to open a thread for "what is the most stable rom?".
Am i wrong here?
I know, this is general forums but it doesn't mean that every new user should post here these no sense threads ( no offence here).
Again, am i wrong? Because sometimes i was told that i'm evil to close some kinds of threads.
I know that new users cannot post in dev section but IMO all these questions have an answer only by reading Rom Threads.
I don't want to be "the evil moderator" since that, if i can, i like to be helpful, say that, i can make a sticky thread for a general vision, pro/cons of every x8 roms but someone need to start and take care of it because i don't have an X8.

I really like racht's roms, there are less services running in background than others and is a pretty stable rom. I've been using it for weeks and i had no reboots. About the battery drain question, disable the automatic sinc in the options.
its only my opinion... already tried floyo, miniCM and froyobread....
1) floyo is fast but battery drain very fast..
2) the most stable is miniCM.. all is working and suitable for daily use
3) stable rom with gingerbread look...
try all of em yourself and pick what u like....
I believe I've tried all kind of ROMs: 2.2.1, 2.2.9 (?) and 2.3.4. For me kuyaDROID was the fastest and stable 2.3.4. But all 2.3.4 I have tried consumed my battery at most in a day (also kuya's). One version ate my battery in a half of day. So, for the moment, I decided to come back to 2.2.1 (floyo-0.20) which is the fastest (1000+), stable and battery care (more than two days) for me. An advice: you will see here different opinions for the same ROM - so try all for youself, and make your own opinion. Good luck.

SUBSTITUTE FOR Lite'ning Rom v6.1 WHICH CAN BE FLASHED WITH NO WIPES

People are waiting for an update on Lite'ning Rom v6.1 since a long time but no news from LITEPRO the maker. I really wish that LITEPRO does come up with an awesome update on lite'ning rom asap but atleast there should be an alternative to it.
I would appreciate if people can please come up with their own experiences and share their valuable information on which Rom one can install that can substitute the Lite'ning Rom without any wipes.
Things that we are looking for in another ROM are as similar to the Lite'ning Rom and they are as follows:
1. Lightning fast speed
2. NO BUGS
3. The rom can be installed without any wipes
4. Regular Updates to be made available
5. All the features that lite'ning rom contained.
Looking forward for my XDA family to come up with the best possible solution.

Exactly, it has nothing to do with development nor contributes anything new other then what is floating around in all of the threads.
Not having a bash but if you wan to know what ROMs are out there to use, simply try them.
Everyone will experience different bugs as people use different add-ons like themes, diallers, kernels etc so a bug for one person isnt for another.
If you like a ROM, read the thread from the OP of that ROM, they generally have a changelog, FAQ's etc in the first few posts that will tell you if its a no wipe etc.
Backup always via CWM to revert back if youre unhappy and honestly, try all the ROM's so you can judge for yourself. If you read the first few pages you generally wont go wrong, espeically with a backup.
Something like a collective Kernel thread etc should be a sticky as that benefits everyone, not this.
I went from litening, to criskelo, cognition, skyrom and now leomar revolution. All no wipe and phones running great but thats with my setup, yours may be different so give it a go.
My rom after Litening [ROM][KI3] Batista70 FOXHOUD EDITION 2.1 |03-10-2011|Jkay 11|+++RTL Arabic patch+++
[ROM] [XXKI3] LeoMar75 Rom Revolution v2.7.1 - Kitchen App
this thread is only been made to get a good solution.......
i know there is no development involved in it but atleast this will help many people who are confused for which rom they should get for their phone. This will surely help many people to take a sensible decision.....
I've noticed that Wi-Fi direct doesn't work fine on lightening 6.1. I hope litepro will fix it. I don't to move to another rom cause I'm quiet satisfied with this one.
why is this in development?
Should be in Q&A.
This thread is pointless, just move on to another rom. It wont kill you to try roms that arent outdated
And the great thing about making a CWM backup (nandroid) is that you can flash new roms to your hearts content and if you don't like it, you can be back up in 2 minutes using restore. I am sure you'll find something you like. For me, I love Batista ROM it has blue themes and much more

I used lite'ning rom for months and loved it.
Now using batista 2.1 and loving it just as much, if not more.

I was in the same position as the OP - loved LR but didn't want to get left behind with no updates from LitePro.
I've just moved to CriskleoROM today and after a minor hitch that required a reflash, it's working flawlessly.
Seems super fast.
Can't reliably report on battery life until 2nd or 3rd recharge cycle, but from what I have read it seems to be as good if not better than LR
