Has anyone figured out a way to send a mass text to their contacts without remembering each individual phone number?

twitter.. use seesmic or twitdroid or the like.
Sms barrage works for me. Auto suggest contacts like a regular sms message.

Type the first 2-3 letters of their name and it will show the drop down with their name. click their name and it will fill it in.
Or you can get Handcent SMS. It has an icon on the top left that you click and it gives you a checklist of your contacts to add to the message.

I'm using a:-
XDA II
ROM: 1.66.00WWE
RV: 1.08.00
which i bought 3 days ago.
I've read the manual a few times and i have a few questions,
1. i downloaded an mp3 from my desktop, when choosing the ringtone, i can't seem to find the file anywhere. what happened?
2. i installed active sync 3.7.1 as a standard partnership. i can share everything except the contact and a few others. when choosing to share, there are no checkbox next to the contacts. ?!?
3. sometimes, after i entered the number and the sms text into a new msg which is to be sent as an sms, i can never seem to send it. the screen will remain in the new msg window. and if i were to exit, it will be saved in the draft. everytime i click onto the send button, the 'envelope' just flew and the mobile number shifts to the right and thats it. ?!?!?!?!?
hope some helpful soul out there could gimme a hand on this
thanks

You need to go to settings, system, add ring tone, and add it as a ringtone. This moves the mp3 to \Windows\Rings.

Do you have Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) installed?

Did you make sure to choose the SMS account?
outlook, no... but its not outlook that i need, i basically need the contacts to be in my laptop, thats all.
yes, i've verified many times that it is an sms account...
when in the 'add account' section, i noticed that the SMS has a asterix before it = { *SMS }
does this have got to do with anything?
also
in the windows folder, there is a few files named "MsgQueueMapFileMicrosoft Notification SMS Protocol (Reiceive Only)" and a few others with similar names
what does this mean?
is there something wrong with the settings ?
could the "receive only" thing be the problem that caused me to be unable to send sms msgs ?
how do i undo that ?

ActiveSync needs outlook for that, whether you need it or not.

The asterix means SMS is the default account.

That's normal, it uses those "files" internally. I have those too.

Could be.
Which SMSes does it NOT send? Only replies to certain people? Only new messages? Does it send replies sometimes/always, but new messages never?
Check Settings(Personal settings)| Phone|Services tab| Voice Mail and SMS(get settings..)|SMS service center

No, that's not it.
new problem
ok
i've solved the previous problems and its all cool now
nothing a hard reset cannot do ;p
but a new thing just showed up
actually its been bugging me since i bought it
here is how it goes:
when the phone idles for a time period, no one can call in
there is no indication whatsoever when this problem occurs
the only way i found out abt it is when the ppl who tried to call me screwed me when i met them earlier
and the only way to resolve this is tru soft reset
can anyone explain what is happening?
Is it possible to do this? Everytime i pick more then one name it fails.
MDA500 on orange
Cheers
Just separate the recepients with a semicolon. Works for emails and SMS.
if you regularly send to a group of numbers you can also do this thru a shortcut. Try this:

Bit weird though just tried it and it worked but each recipient got 2 messages.
yeah.. that's possible but how to select multiple receipents from the contact list without typing the manually..
I think just a matter of clicking the "TO" text and it will brings up the contacts, then you can select all contacts you want to be sent
all semicolon will be done automatically by the phone

Hello!
I've been using my HD for a while now and really like it, except for one wierd behaviour it has going on. If i click the new message icon on the "message" TF3D tab and then start writing the recipients surname (since it sorts the contacts by surname) it will give me some options from my contacts to choose from. If i pick one and click send, it will then give me a list of everyone with the same surname, so I have to click my recipient again.
It then gives me all of the possible numbers of the recipient, so I choose the right number, and then it sends the message. Except it sends it twice. Or sometimes even thrice.
It doesn't do this if I go through contacts or just reply to an SMS, only when I go through the message tab. This is a little annoying since I find it convienient to use. Anyone seen this problem before?
Also, why is it giving me more contacts with the same surname to choose from after I've picked the one it proposed? This is quite annoying, and once led to me sending a quite innapropropriate SMS to my girlfriends dad one drunken night...
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, I don't understand the logic there either. Although you could just start in your contacts list and select the text message link from there. Still not as intuitive.
Find the person first, then type the message?

Thanks so i guess its not only me that finds this simply problem annoying. I hate it when i make a mistake accidentally hitting the wrong key and need to delete. Would be such a simple process just adding via contact list.

Well... yeah. Go to your contact list, find the person, and you have a centralized screen where you can choose, inter alia, to call, sms, or email them.
add contacts to sms
Assign your contacts a label i.e. home, mobile etc..
This will solve your problem.
You might have to do this individually for each contact.
Goodmorning,
I have Android 2.2 (Desire) on my phone. I really like it, but there is no App2SD. But that doesn't matter in this topic. (If anyone can help me with that, without losing my personal settings right now, i'll be happy ^^)
When i receive text messages, i see all contacts with a +31601234567 nummber. There is only 1 contact that shows me a 31601234567 nummer, without a 'plus' sign.
From that contact, I can't answer the text messages, if I make a new text message to that contact, (so just the number 0612345678) he will recieve it. If I click on the 'Reply' button when it shows the 31601234567 number, he won't recieve it.
I can't find it on the settings, and i deleted the contact on my whole phone, but when i recieve messages from him, it still shows me the 31061234567 number without a 'plus' sign.
He got an iPhone with t-Mobile, i got an HTC HD2 with Hi.
I'm using Go SMS Pro for texting.
does it do it in the default sms client?
is it so hard to ask in this thread?
