Just did a highly convoluted update to CoPilot adding TTS (Text to Speech) ability. Didn't work (of course) . AFTER the fact, they tell you to install an update of the software, version 8.0.0.620 . IT WORKED! Why oh why can't they get their act together when it comes to customer service? Why not update the necessary files using the TTS installation??? Or why not just do an update of the software WITH TTS included??
Go here to check it out. Make sure you have 8.0.0.620 installed. http://www.alk.com/copilot/copilot8-tts.asp
-Bob-
Hmm well updated to 8.0.0.620 AND updated CoPilot Central 2.0 and you weren't kidding its a right pain and after all that it seems TTS isn't available in the UK yet. Well not on my HD2 yet anyway and I'm running the official 1.66 WWE ROM at the moment. On the brighter side though Live local search works and so does the Live traffic and the Fuel prices facility is a good idea
Silly question, but how did you guys update to 8.0.0.620?
Mine shows version number 8.0.0.457, but when I use the built-in "check for updates" function, it says it's "up to date". Also, in the online FAQ it says you probably shouldn't install the normal CoPilot on an HD2, since it requires a specially modified version for some features to work (ok, who needs Footprints, but still)...
God, I wish ALK would fix their stuff. The bloody navigation software itself is ok, but everything surrounding it is sheer torture.

HOWEVER, I can't say if it'll work perfectly on your HD2. I DID install it. Seems to work. I ran a demo of a route and the TTS function worked well. Haven't tried Footprints since the update and I don't have the Car Kit. I hadn't noticed the warning, so...we'll see what happens.
ALK truly seems to be dazed and confused most of the time.
-Bob-
Hey, thanks!
The FAQ mentions "for example the Footprints application and Car Kit mode". I use neither of those, but that sneaky "for example" could be worrying. The only other device-specific feature I can think of is pinch-to-zoom. Might just try the upgrade and see if it works.

I'm out of my map coverage area, but did play with CoPilot a bit. I don't see any functional issues with the way I use the software. Pinch-to-Zoom works with 2D views, not with 3D (doing a route demo). I actually don't remember if PTZ worked in 3D before. Dragging the 3D view works. I'm not at all familiar with PhotoNav, so I can't comment except to say I have a blank screen. Is that supposed to work with coordinates and the camera somehow? EDIT: Looks like PhotoNav works too. But I'm out of a map area so am not totally sure.
I guess what I'm saying is that TTS is worth giving up any gimmicks that the HD2-specific version might have added (which I obviously never used ). And since I will be out of map range for the next 30 days, someone else is going to have to experiment to see what's missing on the HD2 (or what may have been added??).
I DO wish I could delete the old EXE software from the Windows directory, though.
-Bob-
Ah yes just checked and the footprints don't work with this version of copilot, but I've installed it on the memory card so I guess that didn't help, don't use em anyway.
Afraid I also don't use the car kit mode either so can't comment on that one.
I've been merrily using the update for a few days now and no problems at all, so I think its worth doing.
i have downloaded and installed this new version on my hd2. i got 8.0.0.620 confirmed at the info-screen now.
but somehow tts does not work in the demo.
do i need to activate a special voice/language or option? is it to be activated somewhere?
thanks for the help!

Hi yes I think you do need to select the correct voice if you go in to Language & Voice, then your language you should find a voice with an asterisk. Thats the text to speech one.
Just to clarify I've only read this and haven't tried it myself as I can't get TTS in the UK at the moment
Did anyone try Version .644 ?

For anyone who hasn't been watching the main development and hacking thread in XDA they've managed to get a working version of tomtom 7 off the new HTC Diamond and got it to work on other phones. This happend a few days ago I believe, maybe longer. That said, it hadnt worked on the Vogue untill now thanks to starbase64.
You can find the version of tomtom 7 that works with our phones here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/12398912...and_6.cab.html
http://www.megaupload.com/it/?d=6EF2ABE2
Also please find the direct link to the actual thread topic for this development here:

I had tomtom 6.03 installed with USA and Canada Maps ver. 6.75. I installed tomtom 7 which uninstalled tomtom 6 and installed 7 overtop.. booted up and my map worked fine. GPS actually connected way quicker then with 6.03.
(sidenote.... I use a bluetooth external GPS reciever as I am waiting for telus to get of their butts and release their rom update that will activate the internal gps)
The only thing I have noticed so far is that tomtom 7 is supposed to have the option of being able to change the navigation cursor.. ie an arrow to a car which it says it cant because theres no cursors so I'm sure a fix or something for this will come at some point. But all looks good. The fonts are a bit big as its for VGA but still great. The black colour bars are alot nicer then the blue.
It's been said before and I will say it again. Dont discuss anr warz or anything like that. No hacks or cracks or where to download maps from illegally. If you want a map. Go to tomtom's website!
Oh.. I have also had issues with this version of tomtom and tomtom home. It wont regonize that 7 is installed. Shows all my maps and voices and what not. This is a little frustrating as because it doesnt recognize in home you cant use the mapshare. One of the big perks of the upgrade. If anyone figures this out OR if its just me let me know!
I tried upgrading to tomtom home ver 2 but it wouldnt recognize it either.
Alright everyone... Here's the newest QVGA version of TomTom 7. Looks a little nicer on the Vogue. All the fonts are the appropriate size and what not.

I have build a pachage (look in my 4Shared TomTom folder) "TomTom_Navigator_7.450.9028_QVGA_without_installation.rar".
Extract on your SD Card and start "TomTom Navigator.exe".
TomTom must never again be installed.
This pack is without voices, you can find voice in my 4Shared TomTom folder.
Thanks "minty1978" for the QVGA Pack, is faster on Hermes.

Installation was fairly simple. I just copied the files over to my Touch and booted tomtom back up. Also check out the custom car icon files he has. What you have to do (took me a little research to figure it out) was where ever you installed your tomtom program. Mine was "\program files\Navigator" Make a folder called "art" and then a subfolder called "cars" Then put the car icon files you want inside that subfolder. When you boot up tomtom you can then change the icon of the direction arrow.
Edit: Here's some sites to download the car cursors as well

Is Google Navigator going to be a descent solution for us? Or is this going to be the best?
Of course I have no idea, as I'm waiting for Sprint US to get me my fancy new ROM update as well. So I haven't even had the opportunity to search around and play yet, using an external.
Hopefully today at 11:00am. Have to wait and see. Not holding my breath.

well googl's free.. I dont believe it has 3d map views although it does have satelite.. which is a perk. I'd say tomtom is a little more advanced then googlemaps for sure. 3d driving view ... voice guidance... thousands and thouands of poi's, easy menus etc etc. If you havnt used tom tom before you'll be pleasantly suprised how easy it is to use. Then again Tom toms been making stand alone units (PNA's) for years and years so they sort of have been working at it a long while now where as google maps is new to the game. I use both Navigon and tom tom and find them to be the best for what I need. With google map you can triangulate your position with cell towers too.. tomtom... nope. you NEED GPS for it to work

Last time I looked Google Navigator was like $60 bucks.
http://www.pdafun.net/
And I thought it had all the 3D maps, Driving Directions, voice command turn by turns and all that jazz too...??
Google Maps isn't really a navigation package, nor is Live Search IMHO.
I think you may be replying about the wrong application...ALthough I do think it's really weird for someone to charge $60 for a front end using the free google database, but hey; whatcha gonna do...
It almost like a Google Earth for WM6 devices...No...
Very true... Duh.. I was thinking about google maps. I haven't tried google navigator. I think last time I went to go try they didnt have a trial and I wasnt about to pay for something without knowing how well it worked. This threads going to get off topic quick. Tomtom 7.. download and try and you will love it!

I just checked that pdafun link, and there is a free trial, although I have to agree...$60 for a front-end on a free set of maps is pretty expensive. Unless they have tts (haven't researched it yet).
How do you switch TomTom 7 over to english?
Ah yes... I forgot about that.. Here's what you have to do..
I should have remembered but yes, the QVGA version I posted is set to, well I dont remember what language actually...But its not english. There seems to be two ways to get it to english.
The first is simply to delete the file [navigator.cfg] which I'm fairly sure is in whatever directory you are installing tomtom 7 to. That said you can probably just NOT move it over into the directory. Before I discovered that deleting this file would make the english the default I did this.
Here's the method I figured out
Once the map screen has popped up tap the screen once, the bottomn left icon with a wrech is what you then have to press. A new page will pop up. Push the bottom right icon (a blue arrow) 5 times. On the last page you should see an icon with 3 flags.. it will be the top left icon. Press this once. Then you'll have the option of changing the language.
Change it to english or whatever you want it to be and you are set!
This brings up another possible issue I never thought about though untill now. If for whatever reason you cant boot up tomtom because its in some other language and you have to go through a set up in another launguge (I imagine if its the first time loading up it SHOULD give you the option of choosing the language before hand but if it doesnt) maybe install that VGA version and get the set up and what not, everything the way you want it THEN copy of the QVGA files. This may not even be an issie at all but if it should happen to someone its an idea on how to get it done!
Hope this helps!
Your trick for deleteing the navigator temp file worked great. Do you have any suggestions for getting TT7 to read my TT6 maps. It keeps saying maps not found.

I too had it working with my version 6.75 maps. What version of maps do you have installed? If its older then the 6.75 perhaps they wont work. That said, if you have to upgrade then I would just upgrade to the latest ver 7 maps.
Weird, I have 6.75 also. My map folder is named "USA and Canada 675_1409". How does that compair with everyone?
I noticed that if you edit the Currentmap.dat file and redirect it to my map folder it still won't work.. Its weird TomTom 6 works fine.
I had problems with it not finding my maps. So I got some new ones and it worked fine instantly...
Just a question. Has anyone gotten Tomtom home 2.3 to work with their vogue yet? I've had no luck at all. I've been checking the main thread on this in the development area and alot of people are having issues getting their phones to connect.. While some connect just fine. I havnt read anything in there though from other Vogue users. In order to use the mapshare you need to be able to connect to tomtom home 2. So this would be great if we get it working OR if someone has it working maybe they could tell us what they did.
Thanks!
Anyone be able to download one free map from tomtom.com?

6xx maps won't work, you have to get the new 7xx map.
Also, you need to activate the maps as well. Tomtom 7 increased the security.
does this file work w/the vogue internal gps? I'm using TomTom_Navigator_7.450.9028_repack2.cab that works with my maps, but doesn't pick up my GPS. (it works great on a friend's mogul)
I ordered Co-Pilot 7 Live for my Touch HD. Just wondering if anyone else out there has used this on the Touch HD? Can you tell me how it looks and how well it functions on the HD?
I've been looking for something better than google and Windows live search maps. Live search works good, but the font size is very small to see and you have to download the maps as you go off the internet like googlemaps. I'd love to have TomTom 7 with North America maps, but thats hard to get a hold of over here.
I had seen an internet article on the Touch HD of it being displayed at a copilot booth talking about how they are working on a wvga version update for the HD.http://blog.copilotlive.net/?p=208
Thanks for any input!
I've seen it on a X1, so it should be no problem cause it has the same res, right?

There are a few issues that ALK are working on, however they could not give me a release date. From what i understand, the map is strecthed to fit the display.

Well yes the Copilot 7 runs on the HD, and yes the screen is slightly stretched to fit.
My bigger concern seems to be that my position is always about 200m off the true position. Note that this is NOT a lag problem, but a positioning problem. It marks my position always about 200m to the east of where I really am (even if I am standing still). And this is when the HD is showing a strong connection to 7 or more GPS satellites.
Anyone know a way to put an offset into the programme?

Why would you update that to Wiki when only one person has experienced this problem? Don't we need multiple people reporting an issue before you put it up in Wiki stone?
I will be receiving my copilot 7 today and will report how well it works on accuracy and compatability.
I provided the original information about the slight screen stretching and can confirm that aside from this very minor issue it works flawlessly on my HD. I noticed no offset (not an application issue anyway, as confirmed by the user reporting it) and no significant lag. Most of the time it was at most a car length or two behind my actual position and gave me no problems navigating
I think you have made a solid purchase - enjoy!

We already have two independent users reporting an issue of sorts with this title.
As someone reports an item I update the Wiki ~ just as when you provide your information this too will get added.
Correct me if I am wrong but what you are saying is if an individual reports a software title misbehaving I should ignore it and wait for another person to make a report.
This would not work:-
1. I don't have the time to check back through all previous other answers to see if someone has already reported a problem.
2. By placing it in the Wiki other users get to see the information immediately instead of having to wait goodness how long before another makes a report.

tested copilot 7 just a while ago and there is no positioning problem mentioned above. My position was always on spot with the road I was on. There was an acceptable a 1-2 second lag from my current position when passing a road. Just like it is in windows live search maps and the same on my Kaiser.
There was some streching of the screen a little to fit the HD's screen, but not bad at all.
I copied all the map info over to my 8GB microsd card.
I have added the comments utvol06 kindly gave to the Wiki.
This now gives us three independant comments.

I have a rather odd issue running Copilot 7, in that it seems to over-ride the system Power settings and keep the HD on indefinitely, even after Copilot has been closed. eg. I set the Touch HD to switch off the screen after 30s, and turn off after 1min, but if I run Copilot, whatever I do in the Device->Backlight settings, the screen will fade, but the device never switches off, even when the app's been closed. If I go back into the System Power settings and reset 30s/1min it's OK again. Any ideas? Please?
Co-Pilot 7 screen resolution fix
Within the software compatibility wiki there is a note to say there is a download to fix the screen res issue on HTC Touch HD.
I have just called ALK to ask about this, and there is, indeed, an update. However, they also warn that the Desktop app which runs on your PC will no longer work if the new fix is installed.

CoPilot 7 works flawlessley on my THD.
I didn't install the original version from the CD, I emailed ALK support and asked them for the THD compatibility version which I installed straight away. There is no resolution issues or 'stretching'. GPS fix is almost instant and I've never had any probs at all so far.
Good piece of software imo!

Hi
Would just like to confirm what Gulioth says.
I bought the retail version in December and it worked fine. I emailed Alk support last month to ask about the HD specific version and got a reply and a download link the same day. Seems to be a little quicker and the graphics are much nicer.
I've tried it with several ROM versions and it's worked great with the exception of a less stable WinMo 6.5 installation(I forget which tbh).
Would certainly repurchase at upgrade time and recommend product and service.

CP7 Safety CAmera Updates
Glad to hear it pjfriend
Has anyone had any problems updating your speed camera database?
ALK's instructions don't work - i've downloaded latest update, unzipped and extracted and placed it in the CoPilot>EU>SAVE folder but I get no indication that it's doing the 'integrating update' part when CoPilot loads. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong...
I know in CP6 you had to delete all files beginning with AO* and place the extracted safetycam file in the Save folder but I can't see any AO* files in either SAVE folders.
Be interested to hear anyones thoughts on that!
What details info did ALK need from the 'normal' CP7 to change it to the HD version?
Thanks
Hey all -
Microsoft has changed the sticker on their Live Search program for Windows Mobile to match their rebranding effort. I am attaching the cab, and here's a link to the download page (which ironically still is off of live.com)
http://mobile.search.live.com/client/download_manual.aspx
And the "Locate Me" feature still does not work on my Titan.
Also, you may want to uninstall your Live Search prior to installing this. Since the name changed, it does an odd overwrite and doesn't prompt for the uninstall of your previous program.
Version 4.6.6169.0
EDIT -
Thanks to Ace10134 for the following:

Hah, the "Locate Me" feature doesn't work for me either. I told them about it, and they said it worked fine, what BS!
But is this the new Bing Maps? Anything actually new? Or just re-branded?
It appears to me just a simple re-branding...but I'm not positive.
Well with this Bing version, the Locate Me is working! Yay!
Not much has changed though. Just the name.
Screenshots and Features list: HERE

You could put that in the first post so people can see what it looks like, then they can see that it's basically the same.

I'm disappointed that they didn't really add much "bing" to it. It's still a great mobile tool (and locate me has always worked on my Kaiser), but I was hoping for a refresh to the icons to match the bing look a bit more. I also wish it worked more natively with GPS.
Hopefully more is in the pipeline.
Live Search has always worked on ym Kaiser too. So far the Bing re-skin is working fine too.
It'd be nice if they actually do release it looking like it does here though.

That will likely be more of a future release, this one I'm sure is just transitioning the Live name to Bing mostly. I'm sure MS is planning to overhaul a lot of things with Win7, WM7, Bing, ZuneHD, etc all in the works and coming out in the next year. They want to change their image to be more customer oriented and are actually listening to the customer more it seems this round.

As long as you have a data plan, and if you surf the internet and such, then this app is just like any other app. If you've used Google Maps on your phone, then that is basically what this is.
Hi,
Can someone please paste a definitive cab with TomTom for the HD2?
I believe this should not upset anyone - after all TomTom won't run without the separate maps which have to be purchased etc.
Collating information from the other threads here it would seem as though the latest version of TomTom would be the best one after all of the .dll's contained within are stripped out (correct?).
Look forward to <whoever> stepping up to the plate!
I would also be interested in this. I do think tom tom might object though.

I'm sure you might be right.. however (and without wanting to take this thread off-topic).. I have a copy of TomTom Navigator sitting in my hallway - still shrink wrapped despite having paid £60-ish for it.. the reason being that I knew when I purchased it that it wouldn't install on my (then) Diamond, however I did manage to find a working cab on here and maps etc. A stupid situation - TomTom should supply working installation media for popular handsets - fact of the matter is though then don't. So in this situation I did what I thought was 'right'. If TomTom want to argue this with me then so be it.. just my opinion btw!
I could post a .cab, but first I need confirmation that this is allowed.
TomTom works great on my HD2.
I'd like this too!
Can always email me if you want.... [email protected]
You can use any VGA version - is working just fine.
There's many links on this forum - just use search
Same prob here, I have the maps but the cab file i used couldnt find the maps which were located on the sd-card whilst the program was installed to the device. Also, the voiced didn't work.
You need to install the voices seperate to voices dir, and it wont find the maps unless its linked to your device, ahhem....
I have TomTom and Copilot, and i have to say Copilot kicks TomToms Ass.
And how is this linking done?

Does the version you have work with TomTom Home?
If not, how can I get my existing maps to work with it?
I tried a cab discussed in another thread and manually copied over my maps but when I ran TomTom it prompts for activation which needs to be done via TomTom Home as they don't issue a product id to use with ttcode.com anymore.
I'm hoping it won't be long till TomTom officially supports the HD2 but would appreciate knowing how/what you have working.
My version works fine with the HD2 and even updates.

Hi all,
i've tomtom v7.915(9196) and french map v675.1409
All works nice on my HD2.
I just dont have landscape mode, but i know there is a mod to put the option in the tomtom soft.
I'll search for that.
I've got the cab, but you need to find a voice on internet.

that maps quite an antique...do a search for maps on ipmart and you'll find the very latest ones (v8.40) along with all the standard and premium voices you'll ever need...
yep i know it's an old one, i'll search for new one, thx for the link
If you find the rotate option or cab let me know
Latest maps are up to version 8.40
get bsb tweaks to add landscape to tomtom
are there others then me, who has/had problem with tomtom can't find maps?

Hi,
Can someone please paste a definitive cab with TomTom for the HD2?
I believe this should not upset anyone - after all TomTom won't run without the separate maps which have to be purchased etc.
Collating information from the other threads here it would seem as though the latest version of TomTom would be the best one after all of the .dll's contained within are stripped out (correct?).
Look forward to <whoever> stepping up to the plate!

You can use TT7 7.916.9189 Vga. Unable to attach
And after you installed the the cab then you need to rename or delete the following files from windows folder
BtcoreIf.dll
BtSDK30CE.dll
This will resolve the "Bluetooth radio cannot be swithced on" problem
Good luck
EDIT: please download from Rs from this link because i am unable to attach here

I have Tomtom 6.75 and just tried to install it onto my hd2 and got corruptd graphics, I am assuming thats because its written for qvga and not vga. How can I get a version that will work with my existing maps as I dont really want to fork our for new version as the existing maps do me ok...
Hi I have an issue with Copilot 8 and havent managed to find a thread in here that mentions the issue I have.
I have the following versions
OS 5.2.21869
Manilla 2.5.19211619.0
ROM 1.48.405.2 WWE
Radio 2.05.51.05_2
I replaced the original 2GB SD card with an 8GB, and used the 2gb card in my daughters Nintendo DS, blatting everything on it.
Now I fancy trying Copilot, and whilst I can run the app, I cannot download any maps as it thinks I am in Africa (or only have permission to download those maps).
This is the same for Copilot Central and on the device, if i try to download anything else it just says "Error downloading files", for the African one it gives me a second screen asking me to confirm.
Am I missing something here? Or is it because I deleted the "trial" version maps on my SD card?
I have 15 days left on the trial to fix this :-S
Hope someone has had the same issue??

You need to get in touch with CoPilot support for help with this. They're a bit slow I'm afraid, so don't hold your breath.

Ok will do, not exactly a glowing start to the relationship before parting with £26 for their product is it
May be you should start making a move over there sorry had to say that. Good luck with the problem

Very true, but I think it's worth it. I love CoPilot and for £26 you can't really complain can you!
Good luck mate

Agreed. However I bought CP7 early last year (I think) and it cost me nearly £60! I wrote to them recently asking if I could transfer my licence across rather than pay £26 for a new package when CP7 is perfecly adequate and they refused.
Fair do's I suppose, as they have got to make some money somewhere but disappointed nevertheless. The "get in lane" improvements in CP8 are worth it as I use this system in my car. However seeing that I have not yet had the full benefit out of the package I paid for last year I can't justify the extra expense and then have a whole package lying around doing nothing.
Shame.

I think they are getting confused somewhere!
There is absolutely nothing to prevent you cancelling the license on one device then reactivating it on another one. The only thing they won't do, and this maybe where the confusion arose, is to transfer a license between platforms (WM -> Apple/Andoid and vice versa)
If you still have CPL on the original device, you can go into the Licensing screen and select to deactivate it. This needs an internet connection. Once deactivated, install the program on the new device and go through the online activation. If that doesn't work, complain again to ALK. There is no compulsion to upgrade to relicense the program.
Had the same issue with my trial. CoPilot sent me this link and it says just to copy the copilot folder to the memory card.

That's the maps - not the application. We're looking for an installer for the app.
Worth keeping a note of this though - thanks
That's funny. My CoPilot Central 2.0 thinks I'm in Africa, too. When I used the KML-export function of my GPS-Tracks, that I had no use for, the only coordinates the KML-file contained were two hundred miles off the coast of Ghana in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

That's latitude: 0, longitude: 0. I.e, no data.

Thats the link that got mine working, I still had the ROM version loaded on my HD2.
Now I can see what the product is like, the screenshots look pretty nice. Ive got an inbuilt satnav in the car, but for £26 I'd be tempted to get this as a walking aid.

Same here, I have factory fitted satnav in the car but I got co-pilot after the trial ended, as you say if you just use it as a walking aid, you can't go wrong for £26.

Neil,
Thanks for the heads up. To be honest ALK make a great product but their Customer Service is diabolical. Rather than spend hours exchanging increasingly meaningless messages with them in that fixed format template format they are so fond of using which is so irritating and tells you absolutely nothing, I simply ditched all the CP8 folders on my device (bar the rom files which I can't move) and installed my paid for CP7.
Saves a whole load of hassle, from my perspective, and it works just fine.

Right anyone got any idea how to make the poxy Copilot Central software think i am in Europe? That still insists i am in Africa.... lord above, one step forward, two steps back and all that!!

Long shot but if you are trying to access CP Central from a PC, why don't you set-up a proxy server or use some other method to "hide" your IP address which might help solve the problem?
I have never done this for this purpose so it's unusual for me to recommend an action I have not tried myself; however if no one else has a better answer and you can't get CP Support to help then might be worth a go?

Let us know how you get on. If it works then this would be a useful tip for others. If it doesn't then they don't have to waste their time on this.

I have raised the question with the support team, will update post in a month when they reply!! Although to be fair they came back within 2 hours on the Africa thing on the HD2 with the link to the software.

Don't bother with the Copilot support "contact form". It's totally useless, and they'll probably never reply. Instead send a "tweet" to http://twitter.com/copilotsupport/ or http://twitter.com/copilotlive/. That usually gets an answer within 24 hours.
