I've seen quite a few mentions about getting the camera working for 2.0 and 2.1 but with 2.1's addition of openGL these roms are starting to look nearly feature complete.
So, who's working on camera development for 2.0/2.1 right now? It sounds like quite a few people (flipz, darchstar, toastcfh, maejrep etc) are getting close, what do we need and how can we help each other out?
From what I know me and maejrep are the only devs working on backporting the .29 camera driver. I could be wrong though. . But yeah status is that its not working still due to vfe not starting which seems to be an issue with either the qdsp5 backport or issues in adsp.
But not limited to the above. Ie we don't know why vfe (video front end) won't start
yeah the camera never works its annoying !!! still love 2.1 haha

Could you guys for the timebeing write a camera app that doesn't use vfe?
Vfe is video front end. its needed for the camera to work. I have a v4l2 utility that takes pictures without displaying a preview. but it still needs the vfe to start to work. vfe is very important.

Thanks for the update Toast! I'm sure it's a huge hassle to get this stuff reverse engineered. But it will be so rewarding once it's done!

its the linux kernel so yes there are .29 linux kernels to port from. thats how we do it

Just received a new vignette.apk file from the developer of Vignette that fixes the problem of the flash not working after upgrade to android 2.1.
Guess it will be available on marked soon.
Thats good to know, I was pretty disappointed that SE hadn't implemented a flash into camera function I'll keep my eye on the market
Yep I can confirm that as I received the same APK via the email, and now the auto-flash is back again
Hope it will be available for others in the market soon

I'm still waiting for a way to be able to edit the contrast. They mentioned that the reason why they haven't yet was because the APIs weren't released. That'd make it the perfect app!

I've explained it before, but, basically, the LED on the X10 isn't bright enough to actually be a flash. Thus, it's a picture light. The way Vignette works is it turns on and off the LED in a manner simulating a flash, but not actually with the brightness or intensity of a true flash.
One of the bigger drawbacks about the X10, really.... weak LED.

Thats good news for some I guess....I don't use flash on my X10...I find the flash is utterly useless. The flash I had on my K-790a would light up a whole room where the X10 flash just seems like a dim blue. I dont know why they wouldnt have given the X10 the same flash as some of there other phones...OR am I possibly missing a setting?

Yes I read it, lets hope motorola send you another bravo.
I thought that you were going to be without your bravo alredy, but I see you can get another one.
So man, tell about your progress with it. Did you get something while you got the phone?
I was desperate because there is another version of android running and we cant still get the camera working for gingerbread.
Gingerbread for me is one of the most important updates. Lets see what ICS got for us.
i dont think we should look at ics much actually i pretty happy with just having ginger bread on this device. Our main concern should be getting the stock camera to work. dont get me wrong fast burst is a quick fix but sometimes the app freezes up on me.

We are all waiting for it man.
I would like to do it, but its difficult.
To use my word of the day, yes, this is being "uber" difficult to do. Anyone that want's to see where my phone progress is at can check out FedEx's website with this tracking number. 795366278313 . At the time that I posted this it had just left Bend, OR. on it's way to Texas.
++++++++UPDATE++++++++
I forgot to mention, I almost had the camera working. It previewed, it clicked, it saved to the gallery! But exit the camera and it was gone. GONE! Just poof into nothing! I swear. I took like 20 pics almost at the same time, like 1 or 2 mins apart! Saw them all in my gallery in the camera, exited and went to the phones gallery and nothing! I searched all over the file system of the phone and nothing! No trace of anything. Getting close I think.

I've been thinking that maybe should try porting some rom directly from MILESTONE 2, I dont know if M2 have the same problems with different lens colors, but if not it should be easier to get camera working matching some libs.
@BravoMotorola Is there any rom that you can port some rom?
That maybe must be what we need!!!

I don't think it has to do with lens differences. If it had to do with that then I don't think the camera would even show a picture.

I say that because of the files and libs it uses, sometimes you can see some roms which has 720p recording for green lens and not red.
I mean, there are many files in the defy roms to match with the camera depending on the lens colors, maybe in the M2 roms there arent such files and it can be easier to match libs and get camera working.
Just saying, I'll try to port some M2 rom to my bravo and if it works I'll try to match some libs.

Well truth be told I was removing alot of the Libs from CM and replacing them with the stock libs on the Bravo. Was doing the same with the permissions and I think the com and another folder. Need to take note's . My phone is in Texas now getting looked at by Motorola. New tracking number now. 1102783078. This is the one to see where it's at on repair at Motorola it's self. Life update, sold acouple of my old phones and bought a computer desk. Wife happy that she get's her dining room table back, pissed because she lost a corner of the dining room. I say good trade off.
---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ----------
@BravoMotorola
Is it possible for you to get me the Bravo Stock Rom in another format besides...... CRAP! ALL MY FILES ARE DELETED! Back to 1. NEVERMIND! First smart thing i've done in awhile. BACKUPS! Saved everything on 3 CD-Rom's. OK. Back. @BravoMotorola Now as I was saying, Stock Bravo rom in an update.zip format would be great if it's possible. Pretty pretty please! My computer can now look at differences in file folders and make changes to one based on the other. A little faster than me copying and pasting everything.
Another odd thought occured to me. What if we took the entire lib from the bravo and placed it into the CM7? Not combine the two but just take out the CM7 and replace it? I need my phone back now. Ebay another one? Hmm.... Somebody else try in the meantime please and report findings here. Oh Oh try and google some program that will explore the root system of our phone on a computer. Kinda like back in the day there was P2K editor for all of our really old phones (Like all of my Razrs). I don't think P2K works for the bravo, too new of a phone system? I've been back to "school" on ModMyMoto.com for my other phones and there's a Bravo section on it but never really looked into it since I don't have my Bravo at the moment. Pot of coffee on now diving in.

However, I've got it working with preview now, and I'm hoping it might work for you too!

And as for the reasoning behind it slowing down/crashing, the hacked up HAL keeps leaking memory causing OOM events which lead the lowmemorykiller to start killing off everything. This isn't unique to these msm7k phones as it also happens for at least the qsd8k devices like the Dinc and Evo4g which build off the same HAL source. The memory leakage is worse when the barcode scanner and panorama "fixes" are also used.

I don't think that we need this, because I using "CONTINUOUS auto focus" mode during preview, so it focusing every moment until you tap to proximity sensor, after tapping IF it is not focused yet, it focusing and taking picture and IF already focused, then taking picture immediately. So focus on hold will not have effect, because it already tries to focus.

Hi XDA community,
I am currently running the latest AOSP on our phone, and it is very nice. The only part really missing now is the camera. I know anyone who is familiar with AOSP on our device will know the story.
What I am wondering now is if people would be interested in raising a bounty to get an implementation put together?
I for one would be happy to put up some cash if it meant that we got a fully functioning Android for another year. The hardware in the phone is plenty enough for everything I use it for.
Developers would any of you be interested in claiming a bounty by fixing up our camera drivers to work with the 3.10 AOSP kernel?

cool camera is improving a lot, next set of blobs should have it all sorted including auto focus. Would be cool if we could find a good dev and get him interested in sorting out the fish eye issue
Glad to see your thread as I wanna do the same.
Do you know a dev thread had been opened for this problem?
How do you plan to split the bounty between the devs who will fix the issue?
I buy my device for the camera. Without camera it is useless for me. Depending of the month on the claim I can be in between 20 and 50$.
The fisheye bug isn't there in the new camera. It's there only in the older blobs.

I'm not a developer but from what I've been reading (I'm a lurker ) for the past year is that the fish eye bug is introduced due to using the jellybean blobs from Z1 and then using a wrapper around it. The new camera does not use that, so there is no fish eye bug. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't flashed any AOSP ROM on my device, but I read a lot. I've also seen the pictures taken by the z2 users and I can't see the fisheye in them. The incoming blobs should fix the focus problems, but the fish eye was never a problem ever since they got it working.

Sorry but the fisheye problem doesn't came from blobs only. We discuss a little about it here (and next posts). Our z3(c) had a wide angle camera in a small component. The only way to get this is with a specific lens on the imx220. (imx220c iirc). So honami blobs on z3 get the camera working (almost) perfectly except the proprietary implementation of sony lens correction is absent, that is why we have this fisheye bug. And afaik only z3(c) had this imx220 version.
So if new blobs doesn't provide this proprietary correction or release it still under drm protection, fisheyebug will still be present.
The fisheye is something that needs to be corrected with aftermarket picture processing. As of V5 blobs, the camera on shinano is working, but autofocus is not properly calibrated. That will be done in the future V6 blobs.
If someone wants a 7.1 Build for aries with a working (read non-crashing cam, but broken AutoFocus), I upload some of my Carbon Builds from time to time here:

Btw, the fix for the camera on 1.3.3 that made full pictures possible was done by @erikas, maybe you want to consider him in your bounty decision. Everything else will be done using vendor blobs or picture post processing.

the new camera fix noises in night pictures ?
images night z1 and z2 is is incredibly good this can also work on z3 / C / tablet ? I know that has many problems focus and others but it's a big step to aosp in xperias
I would gladly put 20€ if the camera support the following:
Z3 dual (D6633/D6683), noise reduction, all feature of original sony camera app including video with audio and 4K (except proprietary function like Sony noise reduction and other DRM related fonctions).
