Change Android userAgent - Nexus One General

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to change the default browser user agent to a Desktop user agent.
Please do not ask me to download dolphin or whatever browser.
Thanks!

Open the browser, type in "about:debug" into the address bar.
Then, menu > more > settings, scroll down to UAString and select "Desktop".

Very cool! Thanks!

For anyone interested, in Froyo, it's about:config instead of about:debug.

about:config is for Firefox

"about:debug" adds the extra items to the Settings menu. "about:config" just opens a blank screen and doesn't add the extra items to the Settings menu. (For me at least with stock Froyo.)
What were you saying that "about:config" should do?

So you bumped a thread to give wrong information?

about:debug Doesn't do anything on mine...nothing. about:config does indeed bring up a blank screen, and then adds the menu items.
No, I didn't bump a thread to give incorrect information. I added to a thread with information that explained what happened on my N1. Again, about:debug doesn't do anything, about:config added the menu items.

i had to do about:config then from there do about:debug for anything to show up

That's because about:config doesn't do anything.
jbhorner thinks about:debug doesn't work because nothing "appears" or "happens" when you click Go. What he doesn't understand is that nothing is supposed to. It just adds new menu items.
For anyone still doubting, reboot your phone, don't type about:config, and instead type about:debug. You'll see the new menu items, which obviously weren't added by about:config since you didn't type it since reboot.

I can't figure out which one it was... I was expecting it to be a config page like Firefox.

Will I have to change the UAS again every time I want to load a desktop page? Can I set it to load all pages in desktop as a default setting?

Do you need to be rooted for this? I type about:debug into the (stock) browser window address bar, push go, and it takes me to my homepage? wtf?

Try reading
Go to the settings page after typing about:debug

Hey, this reading thing ain't as easy as people make it out to be. Thank You, appreciate you putting up with morons.

Not a problem. Your not a moron.....just forgot how to read.

I am typing about:debug and I do not see the UAString in settings. I have done this before I updated to Froyo 2.2 but now I dont see it?
UPDATE: about:useragent in FROYO works for me!

about:debug worked for me, but now I can't find a way to turn it off.
Any ideas?
Sent from my Nexus One

Type it again.

Great tnx

How to change Default "m.yahoo.com"

Sorry to start a new Thread if this question has already been asked in this forum earlier.
My Question:
Does anyone know how can I change ""m.yahoo.com"" to some other address, let say I want "www.google.co.uk".
Thanks in advance
Sid
Scroll along to internet on the today page, when the net has loaded up, tap the small box with the arrow on the right hand bottom corner, you will see 5 icons tap the one on the right that looks like 2 pages, then select settings, then start page,at the bottom it says "user defined, type in the web addy in there and tap the tick, that should to it, failing that, put it in your favorites (star icon) and then bring it up , hope that helps
I have already tried this trick to "manually define" the address, but it only works if I open the browser and then click on HOME icon.
But the question is How to change the address which is coded behind the Internet Globe Icon?
Regards
Sid
Mine's stuck on this too. Must be an Ignito thing. Probably needs changing in the registry somewhere.
Answer is in THIS thread, you have to edit \Application Data\Manila\InternetPortal-en-gb.xml in a text editor.

reinstating Opera Mobile as a default browser
Tested and works as a charm
COPYASTE from http://discuss.pocketnow.com/showthread.php?t=25285
"You can actually reinstate Opera Mobile as the default browser (PIE would have been made the default browser if you had installed another browser such as Skyfire or Iris, and uninstalled them subsequently).
Launch Opera Mobile manually via Start Menu > Programs. In the address bar, enter "opera:config" and go to the page. The "Preferences Editor" page will be shown. Scroll down until you see "Install". Tap on it to expand the section. Enable the tickbox for "Browser First Time Launch", then tap "Save".
You have now reinstated Opera Mobile as the default browser.
Regards,
Joon Suan"
Ahhh Now I understand!!! Use Opera Always=Default
I've have been frustrated that Opera only appeared when I used the TF3d Browser interface but if I clicked on a link in email it would launch PIE (worthless in current interation -IMHO)... now using this tip when I click on a link in email it uses Opera -- Life is now good and I can die a happy man!

1.Type in addressbar : "about:debug" and press the arrow or enter
2.bring up the menu and go more->settings->uastring->choose desktop
3.goto hulu.com =)
i cant see any ua string settings boss
confirmed working, hulu is choppy on 3g, not all on screen settings for video work, obviously not optimized for mobile
It worked for me
It will go to the google search,
But there will be more settings in the menu.
The one you need is last at the bottom.

You sure? I tried it a few times and it didn't work. But then I tried again and it did. Press menu -> more -> setting -> go all the way down. Do this on the default browser. And you type in "about:debug" without the quotation marks.
There's no space between about the colon and debug.
(no spaces at all)
about:debug
I was putting a space after the colon.
It worked for me.
THANK YOU!!!
I have been playing with Froyo since it was first available yesterday and this was just about my only big problem. I wanted to zip around and check out flash on different sites and most sites were pushing me to the mobile version.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!

[Q] Editing the UAString on the retail version.

Has anyone had success changing the UAString to "desktop"? I can't seem to even bring up the editor on the browser. Typing about:debug doesn't do anything for me. Any suggestions?
That's strange. I typed "about:debug" and pressed enter, and after that, when I checked menu > setting > "debug" appeared, from where I could change the UA string to "desktop." (Really nice to be able to access websites in all their full glory, especially on this quality widescreen!)

After typing about:debug you need to go to the setting option. Once in the setting you will see a debug option. Inside of that you should see ua string

[Q] How To Change The Browser's UserAgent ?

Hi all,
I am using Virtuous Galaxy v1.0.5 ROM on my Acer Iconia A500. And when I went to some websites,I found they were always in mobile mode. I think it's about the Browser's UserAgent.I have ever seen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652984
and I have ever rework the file:
/data/data/com.android.browser/shared_prefs/com.android.browser_preferences.xml
but I think it doesn't work. (Maybe I did the above-mentioned step in wrong way)
Can you help me?
And I want to use HTML5 to watch videos. Can I use the Browser with the ROM to do this? Should I change my UserAgent to "IPad"?
P.S.: I'm a Chinese student. Maybe my English has some mistakes. Please accept my apology for the inconvenience this matter have give you.
First, wrong section. All questions should go to the Q&A forum for the Iconia Tab.
Getting down to business, have you tried changing the User Agent String in the stock browser settings to Desktop? It is in settings in the Advanced tab.
First thanks for your advice.I'm stupid.I'll go to the Q&A forum to ask questions.
But I can't Found the UAString Settings in the Advanced tab.
There is my screenshots
………………Oh
Sorry,The website said:"To prevent spam to the forums, ALL new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages."
So,I cannot show you my screenshots
Maybe,I download a wrong version? I don't know.
What should I do ?
Do you have any other ways to change UA? For example, rework any ",xml" files
Or can you give me your Browser's APK installation package?
what? No one help me?
You should really try what monkeychef said. The option is there. (under pageview or something) set it to desktop.
If you are using the stock browser that came with the tablet then the user settings are not avalible you will have to do the following to dissable the moblie web sites and turn on desktop websites.
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter.
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state.
Now on rooted tablets with non stock browsers the setting should be right in the browesers settings page. I know my stock browser does not have them I had to install a third party browser I use dolphin hd.
Hope this helps if so please remeber to click my thanks button.
Really thanks
Actually, in my stock browser, if I go to settings and then Advanced, I've got a "View Mode" option which is by default "Tablet", changing that to "Desktop", changes the useragent to seem like a Desktop.
For example, if you go to facebook normally I would see the mobile page, but changing the setting like above, I see the normal Desktop version of the site.
Hope this helps.
