ok guys as advised by someone i fully drain my vodafone magic till it dies and then charge it to a 100%.
last night i did the same just before goin to sleep, when i woke up in the morning the battery was at 76% after about 8 hours.I just had 1 missed call,1 sms,1 tweet and 1 email.
How can the battery drain so fast for no work at all???
pls help......
Do you have alot of widgets running? What do you have switched on, Bluetooth,GPS,WiFi? How often do you have the "Data Synch" set for? All of these drain the battery, if they are all working at the same time it goes pretty quick.
Clinton
Woa! For the battery to drain overnight to 76% is crazy. never had this problem with my magic. It actually last very long.
But 76% overnight most likely means your battery is faulty and or you are leaving gps, wifi, and have quite a few things running on the phone like ClintonH stated.
however if you have everything off, as well as the brightness set low. Then contact Vodafone and let them know your issue. they should replace your battery at a free cost.
I suggest people use their battery for a week or 2 to see better results with their battery life. I started having poor battery life with my magic but now I can last about 2 day before I recharge it again.
As other user mentioned, it also depend what you have on or running in the background when your phone is on standby. I suggest you use task manager applications to kill unnecessary applications that might be running.
thanks guys
nope i have gps bluetooth and wifi turned off
i turned the background data off from settings
will try gettin task manager and see if it makes a diff!
thanks once again
also sometimes my trackball keeps flashing white for some reason.....there is no notification....is there any reason for this???

Yes, are you by any chance downloading apps? Sometimes they hang and the download stops / continues lots of times. And when they complete your trackball flashes white.
ok thank mate i'll keep note of that!
I read a quite interesting post in the vodafone forum.
A user complained about the battery life of his HTC Magic. Check the answer from Wayne_Vodafone:
The HTC Magic employs a battery that requires overcharging and topup charging. You must charge it as much and as often as possible. The more you charge the better the battery life becomes. So after a few charges you should see the benefit of this. Letting the charge drain out undoes this so try and charge as often as possible

It actually seems to work. At least for me, try it for yourself.
I have to charge my HT-03A every night if I do not want it to die the next day. I am assuming that is why HTC gives you two batteries, because the battery goes so fast. As long as you are able to carry that second battery around with you, and be able to charge it every night, I don't really see a problem. But for it to go from 100% to 76% overnight means you are running programs that you do not need to. I will add that I have Wi-Fi continuously on, and my Contacts and Calendar are continuously synchronized. With barely any use I am usually at around 50% by the end of the day.

Pretty interesting, and that was an official vodafone response? Why wouldn't HTC say that in the first place? Will give it a go anyway...
Yeah, was a official Vodafone Response.
For me: I've loaded mine over night this morning, now its 19:26 and it's still over 85%. I used it for some SMS, receive a MMS and some WLAN.
ok guys thank u so much for the responses,im gonna give it a go too!
im using taskiller and defi my battery life has improved cause i keep killin the apps im not using
about the flashing trackball.......it still happens...no notifications.....
You never want to drain a Lithium-Ion battery. NiCd batteries have memory, in which it's better to drain them. But not Li-Ion. They will die quicker if you do
ok thanks xantonin.....
i charged my phone to 100%,then made a call for 41 min, battery went to 91%.
went to sleep immediately after that, woke up in morning with 1 missed call and 1 sms, after 8 hours......battery at 70%......thats not right is it?

That could be right.
Depends on what's running.
Where are you checking for 100%?
If you are charging until the green light comes on - that's 90%. The phone takes longer to charge passed 90% than it does to charge up to 90%.
I charged to 99%, and drove around with the GPS on for a few hours (about 2) and came back at about 75%.
However some days, when I charge my phone over night (true 100%), I can listen to music on my way to work (40 mins) on my phone, play with it a bit at work, and 3 hours later it will say 94%.
So, the battery is very touchy it seems...
Try turning off 3G (It's still pretty fast on 2G, try it for a day)
And also make sure GPS is off. Keep your brightness no more than 30%, and make sure WiFi is off. Make sure you don't have any widgets that connect online either.
You should get good standby time
Use apndroid to save battery life
Download apndroid from the Market. Use it to turn off the cellular internet before you go to bed and whenever else you want to save battery life.
There's also an app called Spare Parts in the Market that could help you. As well as giving information about your battery status and battery health, you can also see stastics of your application usage and battery history. A very useful app!
Plus it also enables other features like enabling fancy animations for the keyboard and screen rotation.

If you longpress the red phone button you can also enable "airplane mode" disabling any radio. Which helps your battery life too.

for some odd reason my battery was drained out very fast, i mean fast....
i thought it was my battery but i guess its my phone....cuz i bought a new battery n it was at 60% n less than 3 min it was down to 6%....
is there a way to fix this or is my phone broken...
any help would be good....
thank you!!!
Enter *#*#4636#*#* in the dialpad, that brings you to a service menu. There, go to Battery History and select Partial wake usage. That shows you if you have some app installed that prevents the phone from sleeping.
Also, the battery needs to go through a couple of full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches it full capacity.
Hope that helps!
Was it hot?
Hi,
To dissipate that amount of energy in that time would make the unit very hot indeed.
Is the unit getting hot?
If not, then the energy wasn’t really there and it’s likely your battery is damaged/faulty and needs replacement.
Regards,
Paul.
The best advice i can give you is to find a widget that disables your data connection.
I used to have major battery drain. ie: Right after a charge, i only got 97%. By 10am, with almost no usage, im on around 68%.
Now, with data disabled (when not in use), i am still on 95% since i took it off charge at about 12am in the morning!

Can I ask you what widget you use for that? I'm facing the same problem: 94% right after recharge and rapid discharge after that.
Try "Data on demand", worked for me.
P.
data on demand is brilliant.. but I don't think that is the problem that the OP has experienced - no amount of data use would cause the battery to drain that quickly.. it's likely to be 1 of 2 things..
1. Faulty battery.
2. faulty app which is battering the processor and using 3g/wifi at the same time..
no the battery is not hot....my phone was working fine this 3 day ago....n now with the new battery is still the same.......
i also turn of everything on my phone n restart everything...with 0% this morning ....with my phone n now im back home im still at 23%.......is it virus?...but i scan my phone with this app from the market n its fine........
Timescape and Mediascape might be the cause
Hi, I had the same problem. I had to charge my phone three or four times a day. I read in a thread here that some people removed Timescape and got amazing improvements. I removed Timescape, Mediascape and other applications I don't need. Your phone must be rooted for removing these applications.
This night my battery dropped 3% in six hours. I now charge once a day and is happy with that.
Helps to mention to them any side effects of removing timescape n so forth..
Sent from my rooted 026 X10i using swype via XDA!!
Yeah, removing timescape and mediascape is a good idea, i also removed the phone dialer, and the browser because it was draining lots of battery, and also removed parts of the Android UI but figured it was still using some battery, so i now use the shell on minimum screen luminosity and always on plane mode !
Yes, you can mock about it, but both Timescape and Mediascape got replacment apps which are actually way more usable and gives me more than just a fancy user interface.
That is one of the good things about Android. I am not locked to any application.
Sorry to take over here but whats a good replacement for timescape? I've tried many phonebook apps and they all look horrible.
I would really like the HTC sense phoonebook any way i can get that?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Apptr
I don't know about that but theres apps such as acontacts, takephone (something like that) n quickcall!
Sent from my rooted 026 X10i using swype via XDA!!
It happens to me once, from 92% to 36% in just under 6 minutes. Then draining very fast after that. I removed one application I installed (can't remember the exact name) and rebooted and it never happen again...
phone is dead now..........
wont charge!!!!
this suckx!!!!
wast of money!!!!!!
You need to take it back buddy - it's obviously faulty.
Dear all members,
I plug in the phone yesterday for charging and probably due to the charger was not plugged into the socket probably, it is not charging.
To my surprise, when I wake up in the morning, the battery was drained and shut off.
I try to charge the battery up but the charging seems a little slow now, is the battery faulty?
I can feel the back of the phone was hot though.
Definitely something wrong with my battery, I have been charging from morning till now and the battery never charges up to 22%, when it reaches 22%, it will drain out slowly even the socket is still connected.
I will have to bring my phone down for them to check.

Is there any way to disable those apps while the phone is sleeping?
Hello,
Have been using the Wildfire for a couple of weeks now.
Since two days ago, after I installed a keyboard application, the battery has started running out quickly.
I uninstalled the keyboard,to no avail.
3 days ago,I charged the phone to its max, then unplugged it,and went to bed.
9 hours later, when I woke up,I found out that the battery went from 100% to 30%!
Things that run all the time:
1.Lookout Antivirus.
2.Fring.
3.Data connection(3G).
Today,I unplugged the phone at 8:00,have been using the phone quite a lot,and now at 16:30,it's on 28%.
The battery indicator on my rom(WildPuzzle 0.7 2.2.1),indicates that the Android System is using 30-40+ percent of the battery usage.
There are a lot of things in there.....
What am I to do?
Calibrate the battery?
It's really frustrating,as I bout the phone on 1.2.2011.
Should I check the battery with a third party application?(I need recommendations for that)
Thanks in advance,
Yohai.

This running:
1.Lookout Antivirus.
2.Fring.
3.Data connection(3G).
Is the worst thing for battery. Antivirus scanning, fring using data constantly and the data already connected. You may also have automatic sync enabled, so push notifications are enabled.
In addition, the keyboard app which since you installed you run out of battery. Uninstall it. (Which app is that, anyway?)
If you can, do a Reset Defaults or reflash and then calibrate the battery (just plug it in until green led, disconnect, turn off, plug in, wait for green led, disconnect, turn on, plug in and you are done).
But for sure, uninstall Antivirus and disable Fring if you want some battery. Check autosync too. Calibrate the battery.
Sorry I am a bit stressed right now so I may repeated some things and ommited some others.

Will try your suggestions.
The keyboard was "multilangauge" or something similar.
I now work with the one supplied with the WildPuzzle one.
My battery lasts for about 10-12 hours with the AV+Fring+Data connection.
Does it sound normal?
Thanks again,
Yohai.

Is there any difference without the Multilanguage keyboard installed? Because a keyboard shouldn't affect so much in the battery last. Which language do you need? Because sure there are other keyboards. (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.klye.ime.latin&feature=search_result)
Well, depending on the use of the phone, I can have it for three days or just one. If I enable data all day, autosync enabled, and intensive use, 1 day. If you add AntiVirus and Fring, which probably is using data constantly like the phone uses network to make you available for calls, it must last 12 hours...
Why do you want an AntiVirus?
If you use Fring constantly and receive regular calls, OK, keep it enabled. But if you use just to make one or two calls and do not receive any, disconnect it and just connect when you are going to call.
Try calibrating the battery too. Since you are rooted, you can do the process I told you, but once you have done the last step, go to recovery and look for the option "Wipe battery stats". I JUST READ THIS METHOD HAS BEEN REPORTED AS DAMAGING (well, not exploding them, but being useless method or getting worse situations) BATTERIES OR. (I have done it like 5 times and all perfect, but, do it on your own risk)
First,thanks for replying again.
Second,I mailed HTC about my problem, and they have told me to shutdown all 3rd party applications, disconnect from the data connection, turn off Wifi+Bluetooth, charge to 100% and go to flight mode, then check the battery after an hour.
If the battery has 40% or less left, then it's faulty.
I think their advice is really good, but want to enjoy using my phone all the
time.....
I'll do the procedure in a day or two.
Thanks again,
Yohai.

Yes, that will be great to check if the phone is OK!
You dont need anti-virus at all...
i can tell you its not lookout causing dramas. i have wildpuzzle .08 overclocked to 652mhz running live wallpaper and i'm running lookout, and i easily get two days from a charge, using my phone quite often.
i do turn off bluetooth, wifi, gps, and data when not in use
currently 43hours since charging with 46% remaining
are you overclocking, because i used to run 691mhz max and since dropping to 652mhz have almost doubled battery life
also do you have an app killer, if so that may be causing your battery to drain, app killers and froyo are not friends

How do I underclock safely, and does the system work OK with it,or is it slower?
i'm using 055 overclocking kernel from the wildpuzzle 8.0.11 thread(so wifi hotspot works) then with set cpu my settings are 652mhz max 245 min, set on performance.
any lower than 245mhz and from what i have read and phone will not respond with calls.
have had no trouble whatsoever with crashes or freezing
OK,Thanks a lot.
Hi all,
Basically a few days ago I updated the firmware via Kies from 2.2 to 2.2.1 on my Galaxy S. However, I instantly noticed a huge decrease in battery life - 50% gone overnight when in standby! So I factory reset the phone and had everything disabled - the phone only lost 10% in 24 hours. So I decided to try and eliminate the possible causes so first I turned on wifi and within 2 hours I have lost almost 30% of the battery life with no usage so wifi seems to be the culprit
In the wifi menu network notification is off, however, the device seems to be scanning for networks every 5-10 seconds even when connected! I had no problems like this on 2.2 where I could comfortably get 2 days usage with wifi on. Also as I would prefer wifi to be on constantly when connected I would prefer not to change the wifi sleep policy. Any suggestions would be much appreciated
Many thanks, and sorry if there's similar thread already
which version of 2.2 did you have before?
try a flash back and see what happens.
Or try to drain battery (do not charge till 1% or almost dead) then full charge it.
Always happen to me when I flash my phone to a new ROM.
Thanks for the replies. I've tried leaving the battery till it was almost drained but maybe I'll let it go completely flat and charge it see if that makes a difference?
Also trying juice defender from the market to see if that helps. Not sure if it is a problem with the firmware though been looking around and a few people seem to have had the problem with no real solution
Might have to go back to 2.2 but would prefer not to as I've noticed a big decrease in lag on 2.2.1. Also can't remember what version of 2.2 I had I'll see how the battery life goes over the next few days after trying a couple of drain/charging cycles hopefully won't have to downgrade it. Come on 2.3.2
Thanks for the replies so far
Battery Bug is Major issue with all the versions of 2.2.1, Battery life is very bad. Even the Browser is worst in 2.2.1. May be in 2.3 it will get fixed.
I have tested all the new releases of 2.2.1. I found its smooth and fast.

Very very bad idea to let the battery go completly flat, it's the best way to damage it and even lose 20% of his initial capacity. Never go under 10%.
To calibrate it properly, wait 10% turn off the phone, fully charge it, restart. (do it again 3 times).

The battery is calibrated to do this already, the charging circuit will not allow power to the device unless there is a certain amount of charge in the battery. It's there to protect the battery from this exact eventuality.

I flashed original rom but my battery behavior is still like on 2.3.5 RC4. Charge to 99% and drains very fast. Did someone know how to get back it original life. I tried battery calibrators from the market and battery wipe from clockwork mod but no result
If your optimus is old it is normal that battery life will get worser and worser ... All you can do is get new battery of ebay like I did and now my battery life is normal ...
Mike
It's not old. Its younger than a year. Battery life was good and on swift it last long and charge to 100% but after last time i flashed 2.3.5 rc4 i calibrate it (to try it last longer like on other roms) and now even on stock it drains like on rc4 and not charged to 100%
Use spare parts to see is there app that drain battery.
install "batterycalibration" from market, charge to 100% and calibrate your battery for this rom
Yes i download two battery calibration programs but the problem is that it's not charging to 100% but to 99% and drains very fast after this. i'll calibrate it a few days hope to fix
yeah, that happens to most people.
unplug, use a few seconds or 1min or so and plugin and wait if its fully charged, it could be that you have to do that a few times (2-3x)

Your not alone on this, same thing with me.
I have ordered another battery from ebay but dont really know why all of a sudden this just began happening whilst using the same Rom which I think has something to do with it.
I use a program from Market called Android Booster to terminate running programs that start up or dont close once started, as sometimes if you use your camera, it will be still running, even if you close it up so hence battery life turns crap.
But also, if somebody phones me for 5 minutes this also nearly drains my battery, and I have everything also turned off. (WLAN, Blutooth, Data, GPS etc).
So dont know why this is suddenly heavy on the battery as it never seemed to do this when first installed.
There you have it, your not alone but think I will migrate to another or buy another phone as I think its pathetic to have to charge one's phone everyday, or twice a day if you chat to somebody for 5 minutes as it defeats the purpose.

I got my brand new battery and even charged it up via Power Supply from the wall.
Have run the phone only on 2G network only box ticked and everything else turned off (and I mean nearly everything) and for whatever reason, the Battery new or old still does not last long.
Even after it charges to 99% says its charged, it discharges very fast, or if somebody phones you and you only talk for 2 minutes the battery drops to like near 30% which is pathetic.
Something is sucking the life out of the battery folks with these Rom's so can somebody exactly put the food on the table here and say, whats up?

What ROM are you using? It takes some time to charge up the battery and even if it says '99%' that doesn't always mean that it is. What is the capacity of the battery? I'd say charge it for about 6 hours and see then.
Thanks Johnny,
Problem at present seems to be solved now.
Yesterday and before I had been using Mur4ik's CM7 2.0 RC4.
I then uninstalled a stack of apps that I only used every so often and now its like back to normal so I guess it must have been those apps installed.
Folks here is a big tip. Uninstall Apps to test your battery to find out which one is the Energy Hog because even if you are not using them, they seem to be running due to either bad programming of the app or a system management issue related connection between the two.
Now, I have just updated to Mur4ik's CM7 2.0 RC5 and will certainly think twice prior to installing a bunch of things for the sake of installing apps.
Cheers people~!
