Hi all,
i've searched for thread talking about backup solutions, but no one talk about something like Nandroid for Android device, that is a complite image of the phone.
I come from an HTC Hero phone, and this function was really important explecially when i wanna try other ROM.
Now with HD2, there are more ROMs and my tentation to try all is blocked by the fact that if i don't like them, i must re-install all the device (Rom, Apps, Tweaks, PIM...).
With the HTC Hero, in case i didn't like a ROM, in boot mode i selected "Nandroid Restore" and in 5 minutes the phone return exactely as before try the new ROM.
Is there any possibility to create somethig like this for our Leo?
Thank in advance. (and sorry for my english)
complete backup solution
SPB Backup does save EVERYTHING from your phone including ROM !
I once had to restore my HTC HD (after ROM change) from my SPB complete Backup .exe file and the phone was set back to the previous setup completely including the previous ROM.
If you look here:
http://www.spb.com/pocketpc-software/clone/
they are also developing a pure CLONE tool.

I am wondering if there would be a problem restoring a full backup to a different ROM with SK tools backup.. Give it that is form WM6 to another WM6. For example, I have Helmi's WM6 ROM and I want to flash to xplode's WM6 ROM.
It "may" be OK, but I wouldn't do it. Usually is a bad idea to restore a backup to a different cooked ROM (by the way, xplode one is 6.1, not 6).
The SPB Backup 2.0 is advertise as restoring backups to a different ROM version, but I didn't try it...yet... "Starting with version 2 it allows you to restore your data after ROM upgrade or on another device. With the desktop Backup Sync tool you can save your backups on desktop in automatic manner for later archive review or restoring on another device."
If you are decide to flash a new ROM, you can let as know if the backup work or not.
I will try it tonight, though I'm very wary as I don't want get stuck with hours of flashing back and forth.
spb backup
I am used the spb backup 2.0. It's really a very good backup system.
Try it, or look a demo Here!
So does the SPB Backup actually back up all your installed programs, register codes and stuff?
It's really annoying to try a ROM, install all your stuff, then decide you want to try another ROM only to have to re-re-re-reinstall everything.
Unless you belong to the type of people that think its a good Idea to put desel in a lead free petrol car or think that drink toilet cleaner will help with bad breath, I would not suggest using a back up of one device rom version to another. (even less if you want to from one device to another).
The issue here are the system files as they can be part of your back up (CAN as in its up to you to define) and the version of these files can be different,
The best praxis is always to syn your data (contacts, my docs) over your PC.
As for backup tools for things like Call logs you shuld try Dotfred pim backup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
This has worked fine for me in the past (with in the same rom Version).
My thoughts, how ever it might work fine for you, again it might be also be fine for you to have a brick. Myself I would follow best praxis
Hello, i have HTC Topaz and as the new official HTC ROM WWE 6.5 is available i want to upgrate my htc rom wm6.1 to WWE 6.5.
But when i will install this new rom all my data, program will delete in my phone.
So re-installing all programs, choose settings ... is very boring to do! That is why i want to know if i will be able to use SPB Backup (2.0.2) to recover programs, settings, and data after the upgrade.
Or if can't use SPB Backup, please give me if it is possible an other solution.
Thanks
Restoring an old configuration on a different ROM from which it was created will hardly work correctly, it is not recommended to do that. The best you can do is use PIM backup to at least restore contacts, appointments, sms, mail..
PIM Backup is just an example, any othe commercial Backup software will do the job but ONLY if you choose to make a partial backup of your personal information, NOT the system configuration.
You can also try MyPhone (http://myphone.microsoft.com/) for all your Contacts, SMS, Task, Emails and Data etc...
Thanks.

Doesn't solve the problem: you cannot restore a WM6.1 configuration on a WM6.5 ROM, data will be lost on the way. There could be apps or tweaks working in WM6.1 that are incompatible with WM6.5, is Myphone going to "repair" them??
Thanks for all, your solutions (PIM backup, my phone) allow me to backup contacts, appointments, sms, mail...
But for programs i should to re-install alls or there is any solutions?
If there is no issues, can i use the .cab of WM6.1 for WM6.5?
In particular, for IGO and Tomtom, are they working with WM6.5?
I suggest to reinstall the programs. For compatibility issues, just try it by yourself! Install every single app and see if it works..or read the forum..I think that there shouldn't be any problem with the navigators you mentioned.

This is basically true, but Spb Backup 2 has a quite particular feature: you can restore your system even on a different device and (!) on the same device after you upgraded your ROM. I tried it and it worked. Extremely useful!

I'm out, I'm too happy with my Topaz config at the moment to make experiments. Besides, SPB backup doesn't work with my rom/device, I use Sprite.
However, if WM 6.5 does not like me, is it possible to come back with WM6.1 (HTC Official ROM FR of 21 july 2009)? and how to do (is a hardspl is needed as I downgrade)? Does the device will still guarantee?
Thank you

The question if offtopic here, but the answer is YES. If you downgrade to an official original 6.1 ROM for your phone you won't need HSPL. For warranty reasons, you should relock your phone by removing HSPL. Read carefully the sticky threads (that's what they made for )
Hello,
I'm sorry if I shouldn't post this here, but I think this is the right place.
Please, is there any solution how to make complete ROM image from my tweaked HD2? I've installed official ROM (1.48), changed some registry settings, installed some programs and now I want to put this tweaked ROM to another HD2 mobile.
Thank you very much!
yes, use spb backup, it makes a full backup, custom backup or scheduled backup of anything. I am using it and its verry good at what it does.
Thanks.
SPB backup can backup the full ROM and anything else (all programs, registry tweaks, localization) and recovery that to another phone, totally from scratch?: )
yes SPB backup can backup the full ROM and anything else (all programs, registry tweaks, localization) and restore that, but if that other phone is a different brand i dont know how the backup will solve compatibility issues regarding registry or 3rd party settings.
I don't think so
My (official) ROM had 180MB, then I installed some programs and SPBBackup has now only 80MB. So I think SPBBackup doesn't backup all the windows files.
I need a tool, which can create image (LEOIMG.nbh) for use with CustomRUU.exe on another HTC HD2.
i guess i misunderstood your point, in this case you'll have to use some cooking rom utilities, see Rom thread for this. sorry.
Anyway, thank you.
I take it that you want to clone the device?! As long as you are using two identical devices (i.e. two HTC HD2's) SpriteClone could be your answer. Try here: http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-clone
Hope this helps.

Backing up and restoring anything other than PIM details across a different ROM flash its asking for trouble and its not recommended.
Use Myphone and all sync info will be to hand when needed.
Reinstall as many of your apps as possible to phone mem this will keep the phone running as sweet as possible.
Or 'PIM Backup' from DotFred
I use this one

restoring a complete system (ALL data) is fine even after flashing a different rom. When using SPB backup you just have to make sure that you run the restore in "ROM upgrade mode". SPB Backup prompts you to do this automatically when it detects that the rom running isnt the same as the one the backup was created with.

You are right to state that you should use caution but i personally have never had an issue when using rom upgrade mode.
I use it all the time! (On all my devices)

Doesnt make much difference... i always install all of my apps onto the storage card as it saves re-installing them after a hard reset or if you have a new device.
The only items i install to main memory are the ones that are integral to the system ie/ task managers, manila mods etc
I think the best way for a complete backup is sashimi application and its plugin makisu
sashimi is not very simple but, once you've configured it how you want, you can be sure you'll have the same apps, same tweaks, same registry improvements, same email settings, same wifi settings and so on.
So you can change rom whenever you want, without waste time to re-configure and re-install and so on.
sashimi can do also a backup of your personal informations, but for these I recommend PPC-PIMBackup (the easyest and simply the best for these kind of stuff)
There is also a dedicated forum
Give it a try, I use it with satisfaction

I've found 'My phone' to be very good for backing up the general user data on board the HD2 but am aware of it's limitations.
I want to be able to backup my registry, sense items: (stocks, weather locations etc) opera favourites etc to my backup hard drive so that should I have to hard reset I can easily restore everything as it was as I finally have my phone set up the way that I like. However I don't know the file names or where the files are located.
Can other people add to this the locations of the backup files needed to make a full backup and also any other things that should be backed up that I haven't got in my list?

Sprite full backup, you can also set it up to backup SD card.
......... or SPB Backup. Serves me excellent .
BTW: Question to the Masterminds here: what would be the EXACT procedures to make a backup in a way that the entire ROM/RAM/mSD-Card can be backed up, so that in case I have to buy a new HD2 it can be reflashed with my exact ROM-version + rest that works so flawless ?

regarding the rom, none, you simply need to save the nbh for rom and radio somewhere and flash them again after you buy the new hd2, then restore with a sprite backup or similar over the same rom/radio
has anyone done a full restore using sprite? I am considering trying a cooked rom but I would like to know if I can restore back to a stock rom just in case.

A full backup should only be reapplied to the exact same ROM it was made on.

- Make a full backup of the old device with SPB backup as you have it
- Download and flash the same ROM you had on the old device, or flash it from the local copy you obviously kept for that exact reason in case the cook somehow decided to take it offline
- Take microSD card from old device and put in new one
- Restore backup on new device
There you are...
Thanks for those program suggestions however I'd rather copy half a dozen files/folders over to my backup device than spend $20 on a program that does more or less the same thing.
I'm looking to find out the file locations of the stocks, registry, weather locations, time zones ertc not backed up by the 'my phone' application. Does anyone know which files hold this information? In particular I did a google search and despite being a master at it I couldn't find any info on the location of the system registry so does anyone know where that is? I found that CeRegEditor failed to restore the registry backup when I needed it to.
thanks
