I was wondering if anybody has been able to come up with a fix for the K-Jam regarding the problem where the unit doesn't vibrate when a new email arrives when in standby? This issues occurs with the new AKU2 ROM that introduced push mail.
Thanks!
i keep having to beat my head against a wall because people don't know how to read, let alone search. so here is the answer:
Microsoft has specifically said this is NOT an option in the current AKU2 roms. Why? because MS took out that option because it would drain battery life, especially if you are getting a lot of e-mails a day. if MS decides to enable this, that's up to them. is it as simple as a reg entry? no idea. but lets drop this subject and the continuous posts untill something actually does come up.
While there is no FIX per-se there is a very goos and easy work around.
Phone Alarm from http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.htm
lets you do a ton of stuff. Setting vibrate for all e-mail accounts is just one of them.
It also supports repeating alarms for e-mail too. Actually this is why I found this program. I use my 9100 as a pager for my companies tech support so I wanted a repeating alarm rather than just a go off once where it could be missed. Check it out.

ahem. What I have seen MS state is that turning on the screen when new mail arrives could seriously impact battery life for high volume mail users. The last public statement from MS that I've seen (besides the statement above) is that the vibe-on-email issue couldn't be replicated but would be escalated in the WM team. The response was from Jason L. who posts to one of the WM team blogs and his response was posted here by a forum user who contacted him directly.
For reference, the pre-AKU2 ROMs also do not vibe-on-mail and whatnot and stuff.

This application doesn't correct correct the problem. Using it, the device does not vibrate when new mail arrives while it is in standby.

TECHNICALLY you are correct. This program does not FIX the problem, if you have the settings done a specific way you can get the behavior folks are looking for.
If in the Alarm settings page you set "Always vibrate if muted", "Always vibrate with sound" both on, and set "Don't activate backlight on alarm" off or unchecked. Then when an email of any kind comes in, push or otherwise, the phone will wake up, make your selected sound and vibrate as often you choose in the repeat settings. I tested with with my mail2web account extensively.
So as I said at the beginning TECHNICALLY the phone does not vibrate while asleep, Phonealarm will turn on the phone and then vibrate according to your settings so I am right too. It can be done.
Since I was at the movies this past weekend and felt a vibrate while the phone was in it's holster I can say for sure this does what I need it to.
Oh, and by the way I left the theatre before I pulled out the phone to check the message. We must think of others.

You sir are my favorite person of the day. I was going to work through the the dozens of setting permutations this evening to see if I had missed something. Thanks for the concise solution.
What do you personally do about the backlight coming on? Set the timeout to something low? It would be nice if it came on, vibed, and then went off. Well, really it would be nice it would freakin vibe with the backlight remaining off.. =)

Well thanks
I have not changed the backlight timeout since I rarely get more than a few of messages a day (I use it for urgent tech support messages) and I actually find I like that the phone is on when it comes out of it's holster. Since the thing never leaves my belt There is no real battery issue since I would pull it out and turn it on anyway. But I guess if you were worried about that, then setting the backlight timeout low would be a good solution.
This latest OS from MS really seems to be where they forgot about current users. They made all these changes without the ability to even hack back the old way. It's just so stupid. The battery icon thing, and now this vibrate thing. And for each one they ahve a plausabile answer except for the fact that there are tons of users that like things the way they are. I don't care if they change the default setting but they sould offer a registry setting to at least change it back when they make a big change. That is fricking MS for you!
Which app is it? Do we have to pay for this service?
its supposed to come out today as "visual voicemail" if you have the mytouch and the internet feature there is no additional cost.
It just came onto the market on my MyTouch - but it doesn't work, keeps claiming my account is not created, and tells me to sent my operator to m.web2go.com/dsb/vvmupsell
Once again, getting my phone early means things don't work yet. The manual also points me towards the marketplace for the apppack, which also has not yet been loaded
Reminds me of when I got my G1...

Good point - probably not, as I came from the G1, so I'm most likely still on the old package.
It's alright. Prefer Youmail for the email aspect.
Just had to have my data changed to get VVM to work.. The app crashed a couple times, but it does what its supposed to.. Also I noticed we seem to be getting both notifications instead of just the VVM one..
Just got Visual Voicemail hooked up too! Nice!!! I've been waiting for this functionality (on T-Mobile) for a long, long time... so it's really nice to finally have it.
All that said, the icon has the (typical) T-Mo "pink", which I could do without. Also, the app itself isn't especially 'flashy', but it appears to do what it's supposed to to.
Does anyone know why after I installed this app, that whenever someone calls me, voicemail never picks up and the caller gets a busy signal?
Sounds to me like you need to check your call forwarding settings. Set your time limit and forward to +1-805-MESSAGE

No, that is the official TMo app, weird and shady that it asks you to go somewhere else, but thats it.
Easy fix, is call TMo and ask them to enable it for you. You might have to upgrade your messaging plan however.

Exchange Email Sync stops working after a while, push and manual sync is broken
I am unable to get new mail unless I delete the account and re-add it.
Still getting mail pushed on my Leo and Hero.
I am using Exchange 2007 and a purchased GoDaddy certificate.
I have tried changing the sync period from 1 month to 2 weeks, etc. still stops getting new mail after 30min.
Also missing access to my Exchange Calendar, thought this was supposed to be a super phone???
Please add your findings to this thread

I can't seem to get the polar clock live wallpaper working...??? it just fc everytime I try to load it.
So with this new system...is google suppose to fix this since it is a software issue?
ok, so if anyone has Exchange 2007 at work post your findings here, I just hard reset the N1 and reconfigured exchange, still having the same issue, Activesync push works for about 10 min then it quits all together.
curious to see what others are seeing.
BTW, Exchange 2003 accounts seem to have no issues.

The sad part is that this even happened in the Google demonstration yesterday. He tried a few times and just moved on to another wallpaper. LOL.
Did either of you try doing a hard reset to see if that solves the FC?

Same here as well. Mine gets here actually today by 3pm eastern time. My luck it'll come when my wife and I are at work and nobody will be around to sign for the package..
If you go to Settings in Polar Clock and then Color palatte, you can change to different clocks. The only ones that seem to force close are the Polar Bear (dynamic) and Black Hole (dynamic). All the other ones are working fine for me.

No color LED or trackball. Despite statements from Google saying otherwise.
Where is my native exchange calendar functionality? Maybe this wasn't the DROID we were looking for >.>
So if the power button accidentally gets hit while it's in your pocket, your leg's movement doesn't randomly start launching applications/calling people?

Well they're slightly different because of the HTC Sense and the Windows version, but in the Mini the steps are:
Settings/Menu/All Settings\Personal\Phone\GSM/UMTS Services and then scroll down and you'll see "Time Synchronization". Tap there and then "Get Settings".

I have an issue with the clock as well... Ai just got the phone yesterday.
Actually, during the day at the office, the time changes several time by one hour forward... so suddenly after the time was OK in the morning, around 5 PM it showed 11 PM. What do I need to change so the time stays the same? (in the night it went back by one hour, so the alarm woke me up one hour earlier than it should have...wrrr ;-)
BSB tweaks
I am using BSB tweaks, there is option Auto sync clock - just switch off this parameter, it working perfectly. Milan
Actually, when I am at home and have athe autosync on, the time does not change. As soon as I am moving around, the time changes (even though the auto sync is off then). It seems that it changes when the network changes while moving around. When travelling in roaming this weeknd, the time moved forward by 26 hours in just one hour while travelling in a bus.

Thanks, but that's the same solution posted above. What we are trying to fix now is how can we have the time sync activated
bagalk, mine hasn't gone that far, but is definitely a nice bug from HTC. I wonder it the clock will work properly when they change the time again in March or April
solution
As a colleague was having the same problem I looked around for a solution. Having found nothing that appeared to work I looked to the HD2 which runs a similar software setup. This is what I found (I can't post the URL so must simply copy & paste from the original page)
Hey kids
This was irritating me too, I assumed it was not a phone issue but, I contacted HTC yesterday & their reply is as follows, there are 2 steps to perform. I did this last night & so far the phone has been perfect:
*

Dear Stuart
This is not a fault with the device or its software, your device updates its time automatically from the Internet and from your mobile provider.
Occasionally there is a difference in the time from the Internet and the time from your provider which can cause the time to appear to be changing when it should be the same.
Normally this will resolve itself within a few days, however, this is very inconvenient so we recommend to disable any automatic time updates on your device.
This will not effect your sync with other things like Exchange and similar
From the Home screen tap:
Start - Settings - Data services - Time synchronization - Untick all here.
AND
Start - Settings - Menu - All settings - Personal/Private - Phone - GSM & UMTS Services - Time synchronization - Get settings - Untick all here.
Sincerely,
Adrian

Hello Dear
there is same problem whit manila weather background ! when it goes dark, weather background dos not change, that shows sun instead moon...??
there's an update on the HTC official mini support page, it supposedly fixes the problem with daylight saving. haven't tried it yet though
I have read a number of posts where some are experiencing severe drain like me and others that are not. I have tried KE2, KG3, KG6 and now KG5 all have been the same as soon as push is enabled on my work email exchange account with the stock email app, there is an immediate drop in the battery graph and the phone heats up, with the awake time showing as almost constant even when screen is off.
This drains my battery at around 10%/hr whereas with sync set to manual, I am only getting a drain of up to 1%/hr. Problem is I want to use push!
So, anyone who is not experiencing this - what is the trick?
Or will we see this addrerssed at all, but so far loads of updated firmware and still this problem exists with me.
You can't have everything at a time dude. Give up good back up if you need Push, or give up push to have the opposite
I'm having the same issue. Give up the Push? Come on now. As far as i understand we paid big bucks for this phone and want all the features to work properly. This is stock option and a must for everyone, how good is the phone when you cant have push email in this day and age. This is first android (SGS2) i'm having 2nd thoughts about samsung.

Sorry, but that's completely false.
I have exchange sync on PUSH and gmail on PUSH. Always had it on push, since my Nexus One.
Battery drain is very very minimal.
For example with my SGS2 running Cognition 1.31 I just got around almost 40 hours with light use. That's with Bluetooth and Wifi on for most of that time.
If your email push is eating the battery... try to reinstall the Email.apk to one of the other ones floating around here (for example I use one from 2.3.4 with exchange security bypassed). No battery drain that I'd ever notice, and I get decent amount of emails through the day.
Remember that you have to reinstall by deleting/replacing Email.apk in system/apps (need root).
I've always hated the stock email client. Pony up for Moxier Mail. You'll definitely be glad you did. I have push scheduled for 10hours a day and I drop 2-3% an hour. An hour after I get off work it switches to manual poll. Also limit the number of folders you're pushing if that's possible in the mail app.

Get one of the other versions from xda, install that one.

If nothing helps, just install Cognition.

Experiencing same problems as OP!
Have had a bunch of Android phones, and no other has this problem.
I've tried Stock mail, patched stock mail, patched AOSP mail and Enhanced Email.. They all give too much wakelock. Use BetterBatteryStats (charmonix) to catch your wakelocks.
