Dalvik Turbo - Hero CDMA General

Will be some sort of add on app, or will it have to be cooked into the ROM ?
http://bit.ly/dBS1DA

It would have to be put into an image for our phones. It sounds like it probably won't happen any time soon reading the article they are withholding it for certain carriers and manufaturers. So it won't be something just any dev can get their hands on.

already in AOSP
Apparently Dalvik Turbo is Dalvik with JIT. Google is already working on Dalvik with JIT and an alpha of it is already in the AOSP. I bet we see this come with the next update to android, or perhaps two updates down the road. Either way, anybody with dalvik experience can check out the alpha.

Do you think you could get gps to work on this the same way that you did on the aosp+ rom?

Ok, no rush I don't use gps but im sure other would like to.
Beta 1.1 is up, just some small changes (listed in the OP). No need to wipe if coming from beta 1, going to bed now let me know what you think. Enjoy
Loved Roman's earlier roms (Project V, etc. ).
The only problem I had so far was I lost access to my sdcard but a reflash solved that. So far as smooth and fast as OneCosmic's rom. Will post more observations in couple days after I've had a chance to experiment will all the settings.
Beta 1.2 is up change log in OP, wifi seems slow but i think it might be my connection (let me know if you flash).
Might have a theme too (from the nexus forum) have to test.
jeremy, check out these animations. They are for the AOKP framework.

Thanks, those are nice ill have to try them out see if they work and ill put the link in the OP.
Having some lag with 1.2 without wiping, going to wipe and see if it fixes it. So if you are coming from 1.1 you might have to wipe, i will update.
Edit: so yeah installed with full wipe (factory/reset, format system, cache, and dalvik cache) and back to being really smooth.
Beta 1.3 is up, changelog in OP. If you dont care for the theme just flash 1.2 its the same thing without theme. Looks awesome, nice and dark.
This is the ****!! I actually built my own kang from the 9000 thread aokp and Glitch b3 and all the other requisites and then some and it's smoother than cm,ics 4.2,especially pa××ion lol. This is butter and codenameandroid is a speed demon.Top 2 Secret ROM Clubs...
Downloading and will be flashing 1.3 tonight. Now I don't have to flash the inverted gapps myself
I'm loving how much you can customize the rom. I especially love getting back the convenience of the toggle switches in the notification screen and being able to unlink the ringer and notification volumes.
The only issues I've had so far was some lag in scrolling but using your suggested best performance setting fixed that. The only other thing I noticed was that apps like Cache Cleaner NG or Permission Explorer, actually any app that scans the app folders, seem to take a long time to scan.
I also cannot not mention this: a pink unicorn? What are they thinking? It does set this rom apart but it's bit much. Luckily you can change the boot screen animation.
Thanks, jeremy2420, for porting this rom. I appreciate your work.

Hey thanks glad you like it, I was going to wait on the apps for the next build but I got bored.
The scanning bug I've noticed with having a lot of song on my Ext SD, so the media scanner stays on and kills the battery. But I went into app management and killed the media process, seems to fix that.
Edit: as far as the lag give it a day or so it goes away all together, mine was doing the same and now its smooth.
Thanks for this rom! I've been enjoying it. Was using passion v13r1, then the i9000 version of the rom. i just flashed this straight over and didn't really have any problems until today (reboots after selected a notification, reboots when video stops playing, etc). i decided to give nelson's latest kernel a try and it seems to be working better (for me). i always had trouble with glitch on my phone...
Anyway, using passion v13_boot3 kernel, sio & smartassv2, 200-1200. it's only been a few hours, but everything is working nicely so far.
Thanks again!
Build 23 will be out some time today, i put a poll up to see if you guys prefer the newest gapps (4.04) or the inverted ones (4.0.3). Not sure what changed but I know some people like the latest and greatest. Im sure it wont take to long be for the new gapps get inverted.

[Q] Question About the different ICS roms for the Kindle Fire

I successfully installed a rom called USBWOOT.zip (thanks to all the hard work of the developers here, thanks so much guys!) however after doing a little more research I saw someone say the cm9 rom was better (latest one is here I think: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411895&page=210)
I've also seen a MIUI version.
Is there some kind of chart showing the pros and cons of each?
I also have some other noob questions:
Can I flash a new rom (like an updated version, or a different rom?) without losing all my settings, accounts, apps, etc? Or do I have to do a factory reset every time and start over?
Why I ask is I flashed the USBWOOT.zip originally, but it looks like the latest version (in that post I linked to) cm9-02-19.zip has some updates that sound really nice (especially the 200ms to 80ms wait time on screen change)
Since I flashed USBWOOT.zip originally do I need to do a factory reset first or can I just flash cm9-02-19.zip? If I have to do a factory reset will I lose all the accounts, apps, etc?
Thanks for all the help!
That cm9-02-1* roms are follow ups to USBWOOT.zip, they are build from the same source, it just uses a different name coding. Usually all build in that thread are very similar, even if they are build from different people and are named differently since our development is open source.
I would try it first without a total wipe, if you have any unkown problems then do a total wipe. (But a total wipe from time to time isn't a bad thing, since these days many things may change between versions)
MIUI uses a different launcher & other stuff.
I just updated to the latest build of CM9 as well. So far so good. Here is the link too. http://www.mediafire.com/?tnoxgzcgop46odm

Can you link us to the thread of the developer who compiled this Rom? Someone may want to read the discussion before blindly flashing an unknown zip file.
if its the same rom but just an update, you should get away with just flashing it on top and wiping dalvik cache. as always BACKUP FIRST and then resore and wipe if its not working like it should.
dont go with MIUI yet as its had way less work done and it doesnt even have USB ready.
It Worked
Thanks guys! I was able to flash the latest version without having to do any wipe or factory reset.
I am loving my new and improved Kindle Fire.

[POLL] PDroid Permission Management: do you want it?

UPDATE: PDROID NOW AVAILABLE VIA BOTBREW:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26033156&postcount=10
First, for those who haven't heard about it:
PDroid
PDroid ICS Port
At this point, as far as I can tell, PDroid is only available as a patchset, not in any rom.
It looks like it is a lot more powerful than CM Permission Management.
The purpose of this poll is so Vibrant users can show interest in a rom with PDroid built in, hopefully motivating rom devs to add it.
I'll check this out tonight - looks interesting.

I'm not set up to develop at present, but I'll try any CM or ICS open-source rom that has this built-in, or an open-source zip to hot-patch it into said roms.
Yeah pdroid looks awesome! I asked about this in slim forum and cm forum somewhere around here but got no love lol... its really awesome permission management and if they add a firewall it would be a must need app that I would love to buy... you can use it with droidwall but it has leaks and allows access before it loads up on reboot... pdroid could block that from the start if it had a firewall incorporated tho... I look forward to the development of this awesome app.
Looks like we might get a try ourselves with an ics patcher in the not so far off future
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
An ICS patch does appear to be in the works.
As for CM, you're right, it will never have PDroid, and I'm really beginning to wonder if they will even bring any permission management into CM9. If you look at the PDroid patch, it's not a huge amount of code, meaning if Google wanted android to allow privacy, they would have added it long ago. But the frankly rather seedy business model of Google and many "free" app writers and Facebook is the harvesting and selling of personal information, and they apparently threatened to cut CM off from Market access if they added strong privacy.
Clearly the long-term solution is Google-free phones running Debian or Ubuntu, but until then, there's PDroid.

Pdroid working for AOKP and CM9
PDroid is finally available for AOKP and CM9 on T959 Vibrant via botbrew. Follow instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24934484&postcount=123 big thanks to mateorod for porting it over.
Hey guys-
UPDATE 6-5-12
I haven't had any requests for updated packages except for AOKP, so I can only confirm that AOKP Build 40 and CM7rc2 are currently supported! Any other ROMS are at your own risk! If you would like a ROM for vibrant or any other device to be supported, please post a request.
Okay, this is directions for PDroid support through Botbrew. Installing these packages over your nightlies will get PDroid working each time you flash, without having to patch every time. This way you can update your rom whenever you want.
Here is the XDA frontpage article about this exact process!
IMPORTANT: Eventually, the source code for these ROMs will change to a large enough degree that the packages won't work anymore! Just reflash the ROM and come report here at the thread. I will update the package as soon as possible (usually pretty damn soon, if I do say so myself...)
Directions
Install Botbrew from Google Play
Botbrew will bootstrap some packages necessary for its operation.
Install package repository-mateorod and press the refresh button.
There are three packages available at the moment for the Vibrant. Install the package that matches the ROM you are using.
android-framework-pdroid-cm9
For Cyanogen9 ROMs
android-framework-pdroid-aokp
For AOKP Milestone builds
android-framework-pdroid-aosp-gummy
For Team Gummy AOSP builds
New!
android-framework-pdroid-cm7.2final
For CM7.2 Final!
YOU MUST install the package that corresponds with your ROM, or it will result in bootloops!
Reboot!
Launch PDroid and configure.
That's it!
Note: You won't see any of the packages if you look while running CM7 due to an inconsistency in the cm7 build.prop.
If you have any questions about Botbrew or the process, here is a Q&A I have at the thread for my packages I host for the Nook Color.
If you have any questions about PDroid and the port to ICS, here is pastime1971's thread on the process. Thanks pastime!
Also thanks to c-pimp for the Team Gummy files! Also to svyat for PDroid and inportb for Botbrew!
cashmundy- could you maybe put a note in the OP about this being here? If you think I should start a new thread, I will. Thanks!
I confirm this is working with the 5-12 CM9 nightly. Thanks to mateorod and everyone he thanks in the post above!
Thanks, cashmundy. The problem was that cm9 has a weird naming convention for just your device, at least unique as far as I have seen.
I just changed the package to reflect your arch.conf.
So thanks very much for testing and finding the problem. I am pretty sure everything is OK now, but let me know!
Still on CM9. Did a reset, installed botbrew and your repo, and I now have no pdroid package.
As expected, botbrew fetched the CM9 props on install
, except that it down-cased the model to "sgh-t959".
arch.conf:
arch all 10
arch any 20
arch noarch 30
arch armeabi 100
arch armeabi-v7a 110
arch sgh-t959 120
build.props:
ro.product.model=SGH-T959
ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.name=SGH-T959
ro.product.device=SGH-T959
ro.product.board=aries
ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi-v7a
ro.product.cpu.abi2=armeabi
Okay man. I took out the sgh-t959 package because I thought you said cm9 had vibranttmd as arch.
Are you saying that it changes whether or not you install cm9 as an update? Cause I don't see how that would be.
I am going to make it so Botbrew has cm9 packages for sgh-t959 and vibrantmtd. We'll sort it out for good later tonight when I have some time.
Thanks for your time and effort testing this stuff!
CM7 has vibrantmtd as ....device and SGH-T959 as ....model. CM9 has SGH-T959 as both model and device, as does AOKP. If you (or BotBrew) could use model instead of device, it might work well.
What happened before was I tried CM9 over CM7 without a reset. BotBrew didn't catch the upgrade, and so kept the conf from CM7. When I reset and then installed BotBrew, it found the new props and configured accordingly. A hook in BotBrew to check the current rom on startup and reconfigure itself on flashes would be a good thing.
I'm currently showing all three packages, version -9.
One minor note: somewhere you specify the BotBrew refresh button as being on the top right. On my phone it is always on the bottom left. Maybe more vibrant weirdness.
Final random thought: I'm not very impressed with CM9. It has some real drawbacks (the keyboard for example).
CM7 is still overall a lot better (to me) and if PDroid ever makes it there, I'll test it.
Well, I am still considering about cm7. Let me see.
Botbrew does has services you can turn on to configure at boot, as well as several ways it detects flashes, although most of those are centered around packages or the terminal.
But thanks for those tips, there is definitely some weirdness going on with the vibrant that I haven't seen elsewhere, but is good to know about because it could resurface in other devices.
But yeah, for instance, you could use light pad to turn your sdcard into a web server, and host websites off of it, so that's one of the services options.
There is honestly a world of stuff in the repo already, and he's about to add debian INSIDE android.
Crazy. Thanks, cashmundy. I will look into cm7.
Very cool.
I think I'll try AOKP again when a new build is out, and test the patch there.
One thing that would be useful would be a white-hat app which would request all permissions, gather all possible data, and display it. As it stands, we have to take it on faith that pdroid, droidwall etc actually work.
For the long term, I am very much hoping for Debian instead of android.

Basic rom info

Hello nexus 10 community. I've had my nexus 10 for a about 2 months now and its been great but id like to try a different rom. It needs to be sort of like stock with no Biggs or issues. I just need all the basic stuff like internet browsing gaming and good battery life (a little better then stock would be nice), some extra features would be great too. My bootloader is unlocked and im rooted. Id just like some rom recommendations and some opinions on it and basic description. Im on no rush and would like to take my time and do things right. Ive flashed plenty of roms on my Sony phone but never on my tablet so if someone could go over what to do that's be great. I can't flash too many roms because I share the tablet or else id try them out myself
Thanks

You may want to look into CleanROM. Its based on the 4.2.2 stock ROM with tweaks and optimizations for better speed and battery life while retaining the stability of a stock ROM.

CleanROM isnt a feature-rich ROM. Its built primarily for stability so it doesn't have any more bugs than a stock ROM. If you're looking for something with a little more features, I personally use EOS ROM.

In TWRP, before flashing a ROM, do a full wipe/factory reset, flash ROM, then wipe cache and dalvik. Don't be alarmed, it doesn't delete anything from your internal sdcard (ie. Personal data).

Ok thanks. I think id like to try a rom with more features like eos you mentioned. Im getting kind of board of stock so ill give eos a shot and Mayne aokp pub because it has lots of good reviews. If they have any bugs or problems I'll go to a more stability inclined one with less features and more stock like like the clean rom you mentioned. Now my only problem is finding some time to flash then and test without letting my brother know :banghead: he thinks this is hacking lol. If there are any other recommendations please post them before I start testing which will be some time next week. Thanks for the recommendations.

OK I didn't want to make a new thread so I'm posting here again. Are there any Roms besides paranoid android that had tablet ui (the status bar and nav bar as one on the bottom) I was going to use paranoid android but it seems to have issues with stability, speed, and other things based off people's comments.

Any ROM that's popular enough is going to have people reporting issues. It's not that hard to install a few ROMs in quick succession if you run into issues. CM10 and Carbon are strong ROMs, but I don't think they have tablet mode.
TWRP's wipe will not wipe /sdcard. Unless you tell it to, anyway.

Do all the Roms support multi user or only some because I need that for sure and thanks I guess your right. I lost all my days anyways so I'll just download and try a couple roms all in one day and see what's good. If pa is good I'll just keep it though. Just one more question: I only need to wipe data, cache, and dalvik then install rom and this won't wipe SD card, correct? As you can see I'm new to nexus 10 flashing I'm used to my sony xperia play so please help. Thanks

[PATCH][4.4]Qualcomm-optimised Dalvik and Bionic libraries

This is not my work, all credits go to the original authors. Qualcomm for the Dalvik libraries, and Code Aurora for the Bionic libraries.
This patch should boost your device, both battery and performance.
Only tested on stock roms but may work on aosp too. Simply boot into recovery and flash, then wipe dalvik cache and reboot.
Your rom must be deodexed, also back up before hand just incase something goes wrong.

The Z2 bionic patches seem to the best among them, all dalvik patches seem about the same.
There may be some issues with compatibility of the patches with some ROMs so make a backup of system partotion and flash away
PS: @NeophyteGS2 link to the original post and some credits to them would've been great, just my two cents.

Qualcomm, they made the processor for both the Xperia Z and Nexus 4 - the S4 Pro.
EDIT: There's some conflicting instructions in the 2 threads, so I just wiped the Dalvik cache and cache partition FIRST, then flashed the bionic and dalvik zips and rebooted. I don't notice anything in particular, the phone still works, it may well be much smoother. I didn't notice any slowdown previously so...

I was actually sent these files from somebody else so I was unable to credit any original posts, and I am now aware of multiple posts regarding these patches. Saying that, if anybody does find these useful they should thank the author of the post in the general section as he posted first.
On another note, I'm now working to get the new adreno beta libs working on our devices and should hopefully see some improvements from these.
