Is there a way to supress Data connection of force permission..
I would like to limit the 3g data connection to only if I have to ....
I have wifi at work and at home.
its only when I'm on site (construction) that I would need to access data, and then only rearely..
I have noticed that it connects without prompting just every couple of minutes or stays connected if I leave it connected...
you should try this

Is it possible to maintain a data connection and phone connection at the same time?
Currently, if my phone is connected to the internet through an HSDPA data connection, the connection is dropped when I receive a phone call over 3G.
I use my niki's HSDPA connection (FarEastTone in Taiwan) for connecting to the 'net on my home PC, but it is also my primary phone so I would like to be able to keep the internet connection alive when receiving or making calls.
Any ideas?
Thanks
EDIT: It appears to be holding the connection now, so I can stay online and talk on the phone at the same time, but it kept disconnecting last night. Here's hoping it lasts.
We have a WinMob application that sends and receives data over GPRS; and it works.
The problem we have occurs when the vehicle based PDA goes into an area of poor reception and WinMob thinks the data connection is working but no data is being transmitted. The application currently issues a disconnect request to the WinMob connection manager but WM6.* keeps the data connection.
We would like the PDA to drop the data connection and re-connect automatically when the application resumes data transmission after a short programmed delay.
We have tried changing the PDA's registry setting from ~GPRS! to GPRS_bye_if_device_off and setting a (90 second) timeout and this works. Except that even though the PDA issues a UDP packet to one of our servers every minute to keep a push link alive, WinMob ignores this packet and drops the connection ~100 seconds after connecting.
What do we need to receive/transmit to convince WinMob that the data connection is active? DO we need to issue a http get request after sending the UDP? We don't want to send/receive more data than we need (large phone bills!).
keep alive

Is there a way to allow the phones data connection to connect and then turn itself off again?
For example, I have my work email set to sync every 4 hours, I usually have my data connection turned off to save battery life. So when it comes to sync time the data connection turns itself on, I get my emails sync'd but the data connection stays on, wasting battery life! Not good... is there a way to allow the data connection to turn itself off?
Also, how do I set up my internet connection so that when I have a wifi connection (which has already been setup) available it connects to that automatically instead of the data connection?
Thanks.

By default, if you're connected to a wi-fi, it should be automatically chosen to connected to the internet. Only in absence of wi-fi that data connection (3G) is invoked.

Actually, there's no impact on battery usage when you're on data connection. Jade was design to work on 3G connection. There's a thread discussing this subject.
AFAIK, there's no way to automatically disconnect data when your'e done
When i'm home i've connected my HD2 to wifi. When i'm using programs who use a dataconnection (f.i. opera) how do i make sure these programs use wifi first if available and use 3G GPRS when there's no wifi connection available?
Thanks
Simple, make sure that data connection is off when you are at home, turn wifi on, login to your router at home and you can be sure that all apps are going to use wifi instead of data connection over 3G.
When your data connection over 3G is off and you start any app which requires (let me call this) `data transfer` - your data connection over 3G will turn itself on (3G has higher priority than Wifi and has been set-up as default).
From other point of view - when you turn on any data connection (over WiFi or 3G) and than lets say Opera, Opera will work under this particular connection. Example : You turned data connection over 3G on, than Opera, than Wifi. Turn 3G off and try to do any action with Opera (ex. link click, whatever which requires transfer of data) you will see data connection over 3G turning itself on again (even if there is Wifi still available).
Thanks for yor answer. Is it possible to change the priorities with a registry adjustment?
You only need MoDaCo NoData.
You can easily turn off every data connection with it. WiFi stays on tho.
I always use that tool when i dont want data conn to be on.
Hello,
I'm confused by the internet connection of my Topaz. I have set it to connect to 'my work network' so there is no internet connection possible over 3G/gprs/edge, but only when i'm connected to my computer over usb. When I don't set my phone like that, my experience is that it connects to the internet like all the time (with huge costs from my provider as a result)
On my past phones (regular phones), I used to have the internet enabled all the time, there wasn't even an option to turn it off I guess. They only went online when I opened the webbrowser and it disconnected edge automaticly when closing.
With my current setting on my topaz (work network) I can't update my status on facebook or twitter as it can't connect, and that's a bummer. But I can't turn it on because then it keeps connected all the time and my bill rises incredibly fast in one day.
How do I set my device so that the weather and all other automatic things can't connect to the mobile internet, in a way that the device only connects when I start to browse or update my status, and disconnects right after that? I don't want to disable weather totally because I still want to allow it updating through my USB connection.
I know there is a button 'Data connection' in the communication manager, but turning it off still doesn't do anything, i can still connect to the internet. When locking the device I can choose terminate connection, but it reopens automaticly.....
I simply don't want any data being transfered behind my back.
