Hello,
Can I successfully flash a new ROM if I have a broken display??
I am currently controlling my phone via MyMobiler. I have ordered a new LCD but until it arrives (aprox 15 days) I would like to flash a new ROM, also CID unlock the phone.
Is there a way that I can do all of this blindsided ??

Not being an expert, but you wouldn't be able to resinatll mymobiler to control it again afterwards, and then it would be useless until you got the new LCD? Most steps of it, I think you'd be able to do, when flashing I haven't ever had to use the touch screen/see the screen. But I think you would have issues being able to use it afterwards anyways as you would have a nice bit of guess work to get the right location when you're prompted to install mymobiler on the elf. Also, you would have to get to this point by using remote align?
But then again, someone with more knowledge may be able to offer better advice, I hope my views help.
hoping to get some ideas!!
MyMobiler was installed when the display was broken. I am not sure if it prompts a message when you install it? (after running the installer on the PC I pushed the left soft-key just in case, and it worked)
My only concern is what are the steps/messages on the first boot after flashing??! it has been 2 year since I've flashed a WM and I don't remember all the stages.

Did one on my lunch, from memory it seems to be calibrate (cries if one is slightly out...), date time settings, and a few annoying this is how winmo works with menus etc. then you get to the actual screen.
I have a second ELF coming tomorrow - If I can get it fixed I can see if I cna figure it out if you'd like? May take some time as I only get 30mins a day to mess around with them though. Maybe take some pics so you can get a guess for where the buttons are on the screens you won't be able to see, as from your posts it sounds like the digitiser works?
Hi all,
I have an Archos 70IT but, with an accident, the screen broke up, and now i wan't to know if I can do something with my Archos, like installing Linux on it, making a server or whatever else than letting it on the ground.
Thanks for your answer

if it still runs then great - but how can you configure it to enable ssh, some kind of a share, or even usb access, without a screen?
can you use it by plugging an hdmi monitor to it? ( don' tknow if your model has hdmi out)
First of all thanks to reply ^^
Yes it still run (or it seems to run ^^) and the "how?" is the the question that i ask ^^
I will try to plug it to an HDMI monitor but I think it will not work (to make the external screen work you have to use a button, that i can't use without screen).
The only thing i've done is going in recovery and use the flash disk with my compute. If only we could make our self .aos i could make a one that accept SSH access, and then the work will be done, but we can't
hmmm.... that's a tricky one then.
Without trying to sound negative, all I can think of is to get another one, take both of them apart to get access to the screen connectors, attach working screen to yours and do whatever programming changes are needed so that when you power it on you can access it or vnc control it from another machine by default without having to touch anything. then put the other one together again and return it to the store or give it back to your generous friend who let you borrow it for the weekend
and no - I'm not that generous ;-)
There may be some other brilliant method but I certainly don't know of it in standard android.
I have bought another one (i was addicted to this thing ^^) but ... open it wil break the garanty so i'm not sure. Maybe i will wait some time before doing this (or wait another idea) but thanks, it's a really good idea ^^
If you can see anything on the screen you can get a wireless keyboard mouse combo to use the device. If you can't see anything you might have a pretty hard time and a lot of guess work flashing a custom kernel with SSH enabled by default. Does angstrom have SSH enabled?
Also not really android dev...

Nothing visible on the screen, only white :S And for Angström I don't know.
(Could someone replace this subject on the right place!)

Cool, I agree about the warranty issue if you own the second 101 yourself.
My suggestions were slightly illegal (buy then return to store "I don't want it after all so would like a refund" LoL) or just not very nice ("thanks, I liked borrowing that over the weekend to play games" LoL).
Wait as long as possible in case someone more clever can help you out.
But I'm glad that my ideas weren't completely crazy anyhow
Cheers,
Don
But i'm also afraid to break something ^^

that would stop me from doing it also. I was hoping you were more confident working insde tiny electronic devices than I am.

Hmm, seems like you could flash it with a cooked Uruk configured how you wanted it so that it would work with ssh/vnc from a straight boot. I'm trying to think of the steps that would be involved and if you would need a working screen.
If you knew the exact location of the menu items on the Uruk install you could do it without the screen (press vol down twice, then enter; next step press vol once, enter, etc - these are just examples, obviously). I think Uruk comes with ssh enabled by default. I could be wrong or missing a key step you can't do blindly, just thinking out loud here.
I've never used UrukDroid, but if someone here knows the steps it would be very, very nice! Thanks in advance and Thanks for your help.
Pull apart the broken one and see what the make/model of the screen is and then see if you can buy a new screen.
You could also contact Archos and buy a screen from them.
Thanks, yes I think i'll try to do that ^^
Same problem ...
Broke my screen too!
I'm trying this route ... EBAY - cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230598268646
Cheaper but you have to use Western-Union: item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=9004146795
I dropped the http : //. I'm new to the forum and they do not let new members post links. I assure all that I have no connection to either link. In fact, I'm still waiting for my purchase from EBAY (it's only been a week or so from over-seas). I obtained the second link from forum(.)archosfans(.)com and had contact with them - they wanted $77 USD plus shipping and payment via WesternUnion. I chose EBAY because I felt I had more financial protection.
Hi all,
So, despite being careful I inevitably dropped my shiny Galaxy S2. I was more than unlucky though, and it fell in the path of a revolving door! End result is a smashed screen but working device. Nope, no insurance and I bought it without contract so I've lost a lot of pennies.
However, I am hoping to save something from this. I'm typing on my old desire so excuse the brief initial post bit I'm hoping I can at least not let the phone go to waste...
I have the MHL to HDMI cable and using this I can see the phone started ok and the pattern screen is displayed, so far so good!
However the screen doesn't respond to touch. Bummer.
So my thought is this: I've seen that you can hook up a Bluetooth mouse to the phone ... I'm wondering if I can pair a Bluetooth mouse before the pattern lock using adb and thus have a phone I can leave connected to the TV, use a mouse with and still get some use out of.
What do you guys think?
Cheers!
Its actually very doable. The problem is how to pair the mouse
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Indeed, that is very much the problem! I would hope that once its paired it will all be plain sailing, but trying to get it paired in its current state is the crux of it
Why not buy a new screen?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Mostly because they are almost as expensive as the phone itself... That and it's not just the screen, the surrounding frame is also quite badly damaged. I figure if I wait till after xmas I can probably get a new S2 for a similar price as I would be paying for just the screen now. I have my old desire which is keeping me going in the meantime.

See if that works?
can't you just perform a hard reset? It can be done through recovery and only requires hardware buttons.
Should take care of the unlock code part, not?

Thanks sargorn, however my phone doesn't have debugging enabled to I can't adb into the phone in anything other than recovery mode...

Hi swiftshifter...
Yes, this is an option to get rid of the unlock part but I'd rather not hard reset if there are alternatives. I'm keeping this as a backup.
I still need to figure out the send event stuff though because I'll probably need this to 'press' the buttons required to pair a mouse.
I think my biggest hurdle at the moment, or the biggest win if I can get it, is to enable debugging mode whilst the phone is on normally as suggested in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17910067 But I haven't had a chance to try this yet...
How about going into your market account from PC and remotely install VNC server? One problem though.. how to automatically start the VNC server...

A good idea! But yeah, hindered by the same issue. I think long term I'd prefer the bluetooth mouse but for the sake of setting everything up VNC on there would probably make life a lot easier! Can't believe I hadn't though of it to be honest!
Now just to work out how to get it started ;-)
Absolute disaster this evening, dropped my nexus 4 and smashed the screen. Now i cant use it and cant connect via usb because there is a pin code.
Is there anyway i can connect the phone to my laptop and remote control my phone so i can unlock my phone, do a titanium backup etc? My phone is rooted
Thanks!!
did you have developer mode on? and clockworkmod recovery?
Are you able to reboot into a custom recovery? If so, you might be able to operate the custom recovery using only hardware keys (power, vol +/-) and make a nandroid, then use adb to pull the backup onto your computer. How broken is your screen? Is it just non-responsive to touch or has it gone completely blank?
Do you have a custom recovery on it?
If you do you might be able to make a nandroid backup and pull the backup with adb.
Yes im able to get into recovery, and i have clockwork recovery installed. Developer mode was also on. Doing a nandroid now as i type this but im not sure how i would get the data off to my PC? I have used adb before im just not sure of the commands id need to mount the storage area.
As well of this, which would also be cool is if there is anyway i can get a remote session so to speak of my phone to my laptop so i can control it and use my phone via my pc. Then i could run a titanium backup, and use those backup files to restore to my galaxy nexus backup phone... as a wait for a new nexus 4 is going to be a long one...not to mention if i go via insurance. :/

Yeah, completely. The side of the phone is dented too, and the bottom. Hardware buttons obviously work fine though

Talk with LG/Google - Support ..see what they can say you ...
Anyway , are some stores on internet where you can buy the screen but it`s not cheep
Be more carefoul next time !
Boot into recovery and connect to your computer.
Using adb type:
adb pull /sdcard/ /nameoffolder/
That will pull the contents from your sdcard to a folder on your computer
Thanks guys, managed to get my data off now. Must say Android Commander is pretty good too. I was able to use it to enter my pin code and gain access also1
Hello there,
today, it just happened out of the blue, my pretty new S7 does only show up a blank grass green screen now! It can be turned off and on, touch works. I just can't see anything at all anymore. I really need a way to mirror the screen to the PC or something... USB debugging is not active :crying:. There are some apps installed, I need to use because I have to create the backup files in them!
What would be the easiest way to get access to this?
The phone is connected to my WiF if that helps.
Thank you so much!
I need help really urgently. (
Put it in download mode and reflash in odin

If you can aquire a mhl cable for your s7 you will be able to output the video output of the s7/edge to a tv/display. Just search mhl cable for s7 edge on amazon or ebay and you should be good to go.
Edit: just read the s7 and the s7 edge don't support mhl so you might be out of luck.
@Rydah805 I want to backup my data .... and I don't think that would help at all. The screen is pretty much done.
@amar95353 I read online that there is no more MHL support on the S7 anymore.

Your SOL on data. You can try SmartSwitch on PC but even then you'll need to approve the backup via the phone.

Original answer deleted. I'm a complete idiot. I should have checked but believe I was given incorrect information from my sprint sales person on location of reset. Sorry.
I turned off the phone many times.
Phone works fine, just the screen doesn't. I found a lot of forum posts for this problem it seems common...
I didn't root this phone.
Now, I finally know what's the hole for LMAO! What does happen if I poke it? Update: Hey, that hole is not used for resetting the phone. It's for noise reduction.
I don't think this will help on a broken screen anyway.
slaldrich said:
i assume you turned your phone completely off and on again (not just the screen).
If you did that, did you try a reset? There is a little hole on the top of your phone and in your box, you received a little tool. Poke the hole and hold it in until something happens (a few secs). This sort of reset is like pulling the battery. You should not lose any data in doing this.
If you created this problem by trying to root your phone unsuccessfully... Then you will probably need to odin new stock software.

please dont put anything in that hole. This is not a reset button............... ITS A MICROPHONE and that tool its design to open the sim card bay.
Don't worry, I wont do that.
I'm so stuck here... and also I need to send this phone to T-Mobile! Right now I 'm using an iPad as a phone replacement. lol
Just wish I could save this data...
Is your screen experiencing this?
http://i.imgur.com/iOmtR2T.jpg
If so, it's a defective screen.
I got mine replaced already since it was under 30 days replacement guarantee. You can read more about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3359221
But the bad news is you won't be able to backup anything. I had to sacrifice a lot of stuff as well.
This is exactly what my screen does look like! And I did not only had problems with the screen, I wasn't able to get my carrier's settings automatically, I have problems with the charging, it won't display my phone number in the settings and also sometimes the camera app freezes. I installed the updates which didn't change anything. This new smartphone which doesn't even has a tiny scratch, never fall down is totally wrecked. Really disappointed about this "top high end" phone. I don't trust, that it will work after they "repeard it". I have it since release.
It's like really a huge amount of data... Of one app it is everything from 2 years (7GB)! There is no possibility to create a backup, you can just send the data to a new phone via WiFi that's all. If your phone breaks everything is lost.
I realized many app developers don't take enoughh care of backup solutions.
Yesterday the screen got back to life but just for a short moment
So it seems like there is no way to get back this data...
Can I get back my WhatsApp backup at least? I was able to create a backup before the screen died. When I plug in the phone to PC I can see "Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge" in my explorer an that's about it. When I click on it there is no content to show.
I just got an idea how to enable the god damn USB debugging!
Can someone share here how to connect the device as a mass storage to PC (by screenshots please)!
I was just thinking, I can work my way to the Developer Options by taking screenshots but I need to access the media for this!
When I connect the device to PC and then click on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge it's empty... There most be done something before.
Thanks!
You guys can call me a ****ing genius! I managed to install Teamviewer by taking screenshots and look at them on the PC (I set up the device as mass storage blindly) so I knew what to do next. It was still tricky but possible.
I'm recovering my data now.
Thanks to the Google voice app I was able to type in "Teamviewer"
Thank you anyway!

It wasn't really easy dude... The most difficult was to make this damn thing work as a mass storage device. So I could finally have access to the data on the Windows Explorer.... I was just touching on the screen like a maniac!
But this is a way to do it guys. If you own a Galaxy S7 Edge I recommend to activate USB debugging and install Teamviewer quick support (Samsung version, there are different editions) just in case the screen breaks. lol I install Teamviewer on all my devices now...
Hey! The same thing just happened to my phone an hour ago. Green grassy screen. It's terrible!
Ok, so what were the steps you took in order to get to where you can turn on USB debugging and backup your phone?
Well, what happens when you connect your phone to your Computer (USB)? If nothing, then you need to check connect the device as camera or mass storage, blindly! Which is kinda tricky... You need to pull down your notification bar and then select the USB options thing and in this menu which pops up you need to select camera or mass storage... But once you get that done, you're good to go! You will be able to take screenshots and view them on your computer instantly. You don't really need to care about USB debugging, you can just get Teamviewer Quick Support (for Samsung) that is really important, the normal version won't work!

Thanks for the reply. It actually looks like my issue was much worse. My phone degraded pretty quickly, since I wrote my post. It got to a point that while I could type on my lockscreen, it wouldn't go past and enter the OS. I didn't even have a green screen anymore, the screen turned to an off black. At that point, I gave up and sent it in for repairs. I think the motherboard got fried.
