Hi Guys, sorry to start a new thread, I have searched lots for this one, but no one seams to have the same issue.
My Hotmail and messenger is set up fine I get all the emails I want, but when I try to download an attachment (regardless of connection type) it says “This file is too big”
I have tried various files from 1MB – 3MB and all get the same response. For example a 2MB power point presentation attached to a standard email receives this message.
Any help appreciated
I have the same problem and I tried as well to ask here for a solution but nobody answered. So I have one solution for you - either set up your hotmail account via pop3 (then you will have no problem with attachment size but forget push email technology - you have to set the time limit how often will the device try to send/receive) or stay with default hotmail setup with push email (get message when it arrives) and forget about bigger attachments. Btw. with pop3 there is (I guess) some difference in synchronization. With default setup your mailbox is always the same on the phone and on the server.
Heya!
I'm having the same problem. Someone must have figured out what to do right? :-D

Same problem here
anyone to assist?
go to startup, e-mail
menu then
you go to option,
Tap an account to change setting will appear.
just hold the account you want to change for 2 sec then release, u will see
edit account setup
send/receive schedule
download size setting
u can set to download entire message.
I don’t think so can b'cos I think hotmail is difference ..
-When I press more then 2 second .. I get ... gray option.. refer attachment ...
is difference from Yahoo mail...

I have several POP3 email accounts configured on my Jasjar. Each account is set to check for email automatically, but the actual automatic function seems very random. If I use send/receive, each account functions without problem, accessing the account, authenticating, downloading, and logging off. Left to its own devices, though, the Jasjar seems to check accounts in no particular order and at random times. It does seem to check the first account configured more frequently than other accounts but, again, the timing of the events seems to bear no resemblance to the “Check every 15 minute” parameter set in the account profiles.
I thought that perhaps having every account check at 15 minute intervals would cause the accounts to “interfere” with one another – with the other accounts missing the “check email” trigger because one account was busy accessing its server – so I staggered the check-every parameter for each account, setting it to 15, 17, 19 minutes. This does not appear to correct the problem.
My Jasjar is set to always on in the power settings and the registry has been hacked to keep GPRS up at all times.
I am running:
ROM version 1.13.53 WWE
Radio version 1.04.02
ExtROM version 1.13.137 WWE
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Mine seems to work fine when it's set to check my (three) pop accounts every 60 minutes, I assume you're always getting a good signal, so it is actually able to connect? I've noticed that mine doesn't retry if the connection can't be made on the first attempt.
However, my G-Mail account is acting funny. If I leave read messages in my inbox, they disappear when the JJ does a send/receive. Only happens on G-Mail though, so I don't think it's a WM5 problem, I'm probably missing a setting on gmail.com somewhere?

OMG I thought it was just me!! its nice to know im not alone! BTW I take it that pocket outlook can now (WM5) poll more than one account at a time? (remember with WM2003se if you left outlook on text msg how it would not bother with emails?)
I know this should be easy, but HOW do I actually config my email to check automatically every XX mins?
select options (within pocket outlook) you should now see your email account name, simply click on the name to access the setup, press next 4 times till you go to the "server information" screen, now press the options box hope that helps!
Ta for that - not sure why I didn't find it, I remember seeing that when I first set the email connection up!
weird issue with Gmail via Jasjar
I just experienced a weird issue with Gmail via Jasjar messaging app as well.
If I send an email larger than 10K, then it will never go out and always end in error saying the message cannot be downloaded. Smaller size can be sent without any problem through Gmail smtp server. Pls try it out guys and let me know if yours is working fine.

I have now (after a reset and some problems) managed to get my mail to sync properly again and my attachments to save to the storage card and open directly from my email without problems. THere is one further part of the puzzle however that I can not crack.
When I sync my device with the computer my new outlook messages appear with the attachment details on the varioII. I then have to check which attachments I want and mark them for download and sync again to actually get access to them. This means I have to sync twice for anything I need and I need to know what I might need in advance which I dont like.
Am I missing something. Can I change the settings (not techincal please) to get this to do it first time.
The attachment is too big, so it is not downloaded automaticely. In advanced options of email in active sync you can increase the size limit or remove it
I was wondering if its possible to get pushmail for gmail without using outlook ?
Is this possible ? Am I supposed to use IMAP or POP mail ?
Please help, thanks
If you setup mail, it will automatically setup for IMAP.
You configure for how often it checks the server.
Thanks I just did that, but the problem is it checks every 5 minutes, thats not exactly push mail is it ?? It should have the option "As mail arrives"
I tried deleting an email from my inbox, but when I check online, its still there (the actual gmail inbox) .. it seems they are not really in function are they ?
EDIT : Okay The messages got deleted in the browser inbox after 5 minutes ... So the email syncs every 5 minutes
How can I make it an instant connection (pushmail) ??
Actually Outlook Mobile 2007/2010 still pulls from IMAP instead of receiving pushes (Microsoft doesn't exactly know about IDLE). You'll want to set up an Exchange connection. See here for more details about Google Sync.
You'll want to configure the server manually. You can find ActiveSync somewhere into your Start menu, otherwise just go to the Sense settings tab, Data Service and ActiveSync to configure the server, then follow the instructions from the link above.
Thank you very much, that worked, and I can choose "As item arrives" now
One last thing, is it possible to change the email name from Outlook to something else ? e.g. Gmail ?
ZaZu90, what domain did you choose while configuring the connection? I can't click next unless I choose a domain, since the activesync software is different and probably newer than the one used in the google instructions...
I followed Yunabeco's link, the domain was left blank.
You have to initiate the email settings from active sync, not from adding a new account.
Check the intsturctions ^^
Yes I am trying to do the same but as I said I cannot leave the domain blank, i HAVE to fill in something in order to continue configuring the connection...
And apparently I am not the only one with this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5382949&postcount=4
Hmm this is strange, does it have to do with the location of purchase ?
Im not sure :S
I don't think it has to do with the location of purchase. Thanks for your help though. I am using dutty's holy grail 0.3a rom (wm6.5 build 21889, Base 2.01). What are you using?
Chaps,
have you had a look at this ....http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636
Might help you.

Yea, that's the same document as earlier in this thread, but the problem is that the instructions don't work on some devices.. see the previous page
I just did the Push Mail setup (used the link from Yunabeco post)
I had no problem with the instructions, but for some reason it will only get the mail when I do an ActiveSync.
The ActiverSync chedule is set to sync during Peak times (As Items arrive) and off-peak times (As Items arrive).
The Use above settings and Send/Receive when I click Send) are als set to on.
Did I miss a setting as it's not working for me the way it should, or do I need to set something in my Gmail account also?

Barty,
Surprised at this. I set this up the other day on my device in order to talk someone through it and it worked. Deleted it as I don't need push mail right now.
Wondered if those who can't get it working can put down the steps they have taken to setup on their devices and we can see how we can help?

I wonder if its possible to set up multiple push mail accounts ?
Gonna search for that now, if anyone got a link before I finish my little research, please add it !
Gday Guys,
Been searching the threads for the last couple of days, but cant seem to see the solution. Just wonder if anyone can help.? I had to complete reset my HTC HD2 after loading some software that screwed it up, everything seems to be fine now apart form email...
I am trying to add a hotmail account, but its not doing what its told to..lol.. this is what ive done so far:
1. Bottom slider to email tab (as i dont av hotmail set up, there is nothing on this tab apart from "no mail account, tap to add a mail account".
2. Tapped "add account"
3. Tapped "Other"
4. Inputed the said email address (@hotmail.com) and password, ticked save password
5. Then pressing "next"
Now, this is where it goes wrong, for some reason it is sending me to the windows live page......where as before i had to reset my phone, all i had to do was go to the email screen, hit menu then send/receive, and it would deliver all my emails to my email screen...
Its really annoying that it sends me to the windows live page. Does anyone knows why this is happening..?? i think it might be to do with my proxy settings...??
For anyone else who has this problem, pse do the following, and it will sort this annoying problem out...
DO EXACT AS I SAY AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO DELETE IT.
Tap the Windows flag, and select the "Windows Live" program..
Tap menu.
Tap Account Options
Tap Switch Account.
Tap Yes
And you should now be at a screen to accept an agreement!
You have now taken Hotmail off the HD2!
BY THE WAY, THANKS TO DAYRON24 for this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666188
in post 1 step 4 put your email address as "hotmail.not" or something, doesn't mater what so long as its not a genuine hotmail domain so the phone won't start the hotmail wizard.when finished, do send and receive and then edit your email address back to correct hotmail.com
just download and install Windows Live from marketplace, and tick the box with "synchronize-email", this will automatically give you another e-mailaccount in sense.
Thanks guys,
All i did to rectify this problem was follow post 2, and it worked perfectly, i tried before to input a different email using @hotmail.con or @notmail.com etc, but for some reason when i changed it back to hotmail.com, it still took me to the Live website, bizarre, but anyway all good now.
Thanks again
Mark
glad you,re sorted.
I should have added that you have to edit back the email address from wm email settings, not the htc email wizard.
my bad.
I recently updated my ROM from o2 stock 1.43 to stock 1.72. Since then I've been unable to set-up my Hotmail account. This has been doing my head in for a few days now, I've searched the forum but can't find anything that's relevant.
Here's my problem step by step: I select Add mail account then other, as Hotmail isn't listed. I then enter my e-mail address & password and click next. What happens next has never happened before when I've tried to set my hotmail account up from within a phone and has left me bewildered??
My Opera 10 browser now launches and takes me to the online Hotmail website??? WTF!!! After exiting the opera browser, I return back to the add mail account screen and I'm promptly back at square one?
Any help/ advice would be much appreciated.
Thx.
can you not input the settings for smtp, imap, pop3 etc manually???? im not sure which hotmail uses hence why i mentioned them all.
There is a few threads about hotmail mate
I wouldn't bother setting it though Sense...
Open Windows live and do it from there......
If you must then you will need mail.live.com. that is they worked for me the last time I set it though Sense...
I do have one question for HTC... Why the F**k are you selling a windows device that doesn't have the hotmail setting in Sense???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Oh you may want to update your version of Windows Live from the Marketplace

I'm not even given the opportunity to enter any settings manually as soon as I've entered my address and password and either clicked manual setup or the next button, my opera browser launches and takes me to the web based hotmail.
I totally agree with you that the Hotmail setting should be on the phone.

But I've setup my Hotmail account previously on this phone (HD2) via the Add Mail Account screen and never had any problems up until now.
Thanks for the suggestion tho', I may need to try that.
Can anyone help with this please? It's seriously doing my head in!
Me too, but I've fixed it
Hi,
I had the same problem when updating OS, what previously was a simple task became impossible, and as for taking me to the website, WTF barely covers it!
The answer is in the post from Neville.Holland, simply re-install 'Windows Live' from Marketplace and obey all the instructions, once the 'old WL' is removed and the phone restarts you'll find 'hotmail' is there in your list of email accounts as it was before...
Hooray
when inputing the email address at the start, just misspell it (notmail.con for instance) which prevents the wizard recognizing it. fill in all the rest of the details manually, then save it, then edit it and correct the address.
That's a weird problem, but sam's suggestion should definitely work. If not give provisioning a try. Just look around XDA and you'll figure it out.

i had the same problem mine was a hotmail.co.uk address. so i entered it in sense as hotmail.com it then took me to the live log in screen where i changed it to hotmail.co.uk it then saved that and synced all my emails and left them all working fine on sense.
Manual Hotmail Email Setup
samsamuel is right on! Hope I'm not raising the dead post here, just thought I can up some details for reference on manually setting up a hotmail email account as lots of light roms are without the windows live package (it's not quite a small install and it needs to reside on the device) and I've read through and met some probs on my own when installing the cabs...
So as samsamuel said, just mistype the "@hotmail.com" part when you set up your hotmail account manually in Messages. You'll skip the windows live wizard (which I don't even have installed anymore). Here are the settings that worked for me (diamond on wm 6.5):
Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com:995
Account type: pop3
Outgoing (smtp) mail server: smtp.live.com:25
CHECKED "outgoing server requires authentication"
CHECKED "use the same user name and password for sending e-mail"
Under "advance server settings": CHECK BOTH "require SSL for Incoming AND Outgoing email"
After all that, right before it starts to sync, just stop send/receive and go back to the account setting and fix the mistyped "@hotmail.com" earlier.
That's what worked for me; incoming and outgoing tested. And I'm not sure about this, but for people who want to sync more than the 50 email limit (when you setup via windows live), you might be able to do it by setting the period of download to "from the past 30 days" or I guess "all messages". I don't have that many emails as I don't use hotmail that much so you better try it out if you're interested (it might take some time to sync though if you have lots of emails... so 3g or wifi it).
thanks for the help, samsamuel!
