If I root my phone, does that introduce a potential threat from apps that will try to access and change the system files of the phone?
Basically, the only reason I want to root the phone is to be able to change a font to support my language - will I be able to unroot it afterwards?

Is it possible that if i allow installation of untrusted apps on N1, can it access the phone's flash and possibly screw it up??? Are applications allowed flash access on android???
Don't think so. If an app's trying to access your system files, the OS should pop up a warning asking you for root permission, and if your phone's not rooted anyway, you won't even be able to grant it.
Was just looking at the b&n update(s) and trying to understand what it is that it does that removes root access? Is it simply the act of resetting the permissions on the superuser program (su.apk)? Or does it have anything to do with u-boot.bin/uImage/uRecImg/uRamdisk/uRecRam? Or both?
Does the same problem occur with regard to the google apps where the permissions get reset on those as well?
Hello friends
I am not a technically advanced person regarding Android systems. I had successfully rooted my LG Optimus L3 E400 and installed ROM Manager. Now I need to take the phone to the service center to address some battery problems. So it necessary to unrot my phone and removing the "superuser" application.
I have tried Gingerbreak version 1.20 but that did not work. Though the phone is not rooted anymore, I could not find any way toremove the "superuser" application, which was not removed by Gingerbreak.
Please help.
Thank you.
Please help me folks!
Please note, I have Stock ROM installed and I have never used any custom ROM on this phone.
all what you need is just remove all root apps an super user as the last one.
i believe that they won't care about your phone as rooted or not. they only care about customers satisfaction n selling their products...
I wish it had been so! Unfortunately, rooting voids warranty. So it was necessary for me to unroot the phone and remove the "superuser" application before I hand it over to the service center people, as they would be more than happy to reject my free service claim as soon as they find the "superuser" application.
Well, I had to factory reset the phone get rid of "superuser", but I have lost all my contacts, SMS etc...
Never knew that it would be so hard to remove "superuser"...
use root explorer > go to > /system/app/ > mount as read write (r/w) see right above > just delete that superuser.apk n reboot your phone > done
I wish you had told me this about an hour ago
Still, thank you and I shall keep it in mind for future references.
By root explorer, do you mean any file explorer like "Astro"?
sorry just read your thread an hour ago....
yes, every root explorer that can require su permission. it's not usually file explorer...
So I don't want to upgrade to android 7, ever. At this point I hit "No Thanks" on the upgrade notice and then FC Motorola Update Services, but you need to do that every reboot. Kinda annoying
I want to just remove the Motorola Update Services app from my device but you need to be rooted. Is there a way to get temp su access in a terminal shell to remove the app without having to root?
If not, can someone provide a link to the guide to root Marshmellow? All I can find are a zillion guides to root Android 7, not 6
Thanks
Why won't you upgrade to 7? 6, at this point, is deprecated and insecure.
Anyways, to root MM just flash Magisk.
I wouldn't recommend staying on Marshmallow for whatever reason, but this should help you remove those apps without rooting your phone. Simple manner of how it works - it doesn't remove the app from your memory, but removes it for that particular user. Effectively, you won't save up on space, but the app will be gone.
Hi there, I recently got a Phone 1 and I want to root it, the modules I use are ones like Immersive Gesture, font zip modules, and cpu monitoring software
The question is, can i sideload system image or emergency recover system if any module causes it to brick?
