Okay, so I have a weird issue, and I've been searching and searching all day here at work, and can't find any info on it. When I flashed to Open Touch 5.3 biggy, everything worked great. ....but, after a soft reset, I noticed something changed. When I first loaded the os, I could go to Start, and then select programs and it would tile out to the right. Now, after the reset, when I select start, and programs, it goes to the big icons page, but doesn't tile out to the right. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it right, but you could see how it's hard to even look up info on how to change it back so menu's will tile over. Any help would be appreciated.
The Program that Allows for the menu style Start menu is Called Quick Menu Look for it in your windows folder. when click on it there it open. then look for the "quick menu" item and click option. check your settings there and make sure it is set up to start on system start.
Hope that helps

Man, this is driving me insane. Quick menu is in the startup folder, and when I run the program, and look at the options, it is checked to start when system starts....but every time it goes back to the normal icon page. Even after a restart, it does the same thing. What could I be doing wrong??? Ahhhhh!
I don't know if this makes a difference, but I do have HTC Home Customizer installed.
Did you noticed if "replace system's start-menu" was checked or not... might want to also check it see if "register win key of device" is checked also...
if that doesn't work might want to try and reinstall the program again.

Yeah, I tried all those, and made sure everything was selected. I read somewhere about some weird issues with batterystatus and quickmenu. I think if you have the processor speed selected to show, somehow this messed with quickmenu. I ended up flashing back to a different rom and it works fine. It was just strange though.
dear board members,
suddenly my task manager is missing. is there anay hint to bring it back or ???
best wishes from bavaria

do you mean the top right icon in the today screen (home desktop)?
if so, did you install quick menu?
I also have the same issue. The entire top task bar disappears sometimes.. In order to bring it back, i have to click on the panel button and choose the same panel again. Its primarily happening on the default xperia panel.. must be some app which is causing the task bar to crash.. not sure how to troubleshoot it.. any help would be greatly appreciated!
What apps do u have installed on the x1 harmsing
Same here. After installing SPB Plus 4 it disappeared (replaced by SPB task manager ??). But after uninstalling it, it didn't came back even after some soft resets. Any suggest. is there any cab/fix to bring it back?

It's the task manager from the new Xperia X2.
After further investigation, it does seem to work ok. It's just that tapping the 'X' when a program is running actually quits the program after installing the X2 CAB.

LOL! I've confused you, sorry. I didn't explain myself very well.
Yes, in the task manager clicking the "X" is supposed to stop a program. I was talking about the "X" in the top right-hand corner when a program is running as can be seen in this pic. Before installing this task manger, clicking it minimised a program - now it quits it.

Ah, this is just too great!
Thank you very much for posting that handy program
I found it to be far more reliable and faster than HTCs original task manager ... at least on my phone ^^

Instead of hacking the registry, you can also set that directly in the Task Manager.
Start > Settings > System > Task Manager. On the Button tab, choose "Enable the "X" button to end running programs"
thank you, I will try it.
Great App !! Really nice and faster as the Original HTC Taskmanager !!!

Been trying for that site to send me an email for 2 weeks now so I can register, and still nothing want to try this X2 out.
Hello,
It is really annoying that every time i close a program by pressing the top right X, the program just minimizes but not really closes...
This leaves a dozen progs open in the background all the time wish I don't need any more...
Can't the X button be set so It really closes the app in stead of minimizing it?
Thx

you need to go into the options of duttys task manager and set it to close instead of minimise when you hit x.
Thing is, I don't see any icon or menu referring to it. Nothing that indicates the app is installed, besides in the list to remove it.

start an application (opera for instance) and then hit the home screen button... the app will still be running and what you should now see is three little white bars in the top right corner of your home screen. That is Duttys task manager... click on it and you will see what apps are currently running as well as icons for options.
No white bars to be found...
Hmmm the version I found states 2.1.1918 but I looked and I have 2.5.1921?..

Most apps close now by pressing X, only active sync and com manager don't want to shut down by pressing X, any ideas why?

Check nº82
They are in the list of exclusive apps. You need to do the opposite of what says in tip 82, removing the apps you want to from the list...
Try this. I am using it and it closes all apps with the X button 100%. At first it looks complex, but if you install all three files it is easy to setup. It also gives you options of an extra function of your choice if you hold down the X and the Windows soft button.

I think it is repllog.exe.
I've run ActiveSync and then opened the task manager that came with my HD2. On that I've set it up to show process names instead of App names, and there it shows repllog.exe for the ActiveSyn
I have several apps which work fine on phone.
They also run on the tablet - BUT there is no menu icon, neither at the bottom next to the 3 standard ones, nor is there a menu icon in the upper right corner. There is no menu icon.
So I wonder if someone has a trick to send a "menu pressed" signal to the app so i can access the settings.
I know i know, tell them to update their apps, but some people have left and others will take years to fix that if ever -
So i thought perhaps there was some sort of shortcut or perhaps hack which could make a menu appear? You know like you can record keypresses on a PC and then play them back.
The soft menu button on the screen works fine for me, its the 4th icon (Series of lines, top one one is longest) - same goes for the menu button that's on the keyboard.

Yes..
It also works for me when they are there. But they are NOT THERE for the apps in question.
I think you got this backwards,
The menu button will only appear if the app has a settings menu.
Majority of the Honeycomb optimized apps do not have a menu button because there either isn't no menu for that app or they have moved the menu button to the action bar on the top right, which is the new standard
The settings button is primarily used for backwards compatibility with older apps. This is why developers are removing the menu buttonwhen they optimize their app.

As I also indicated, there is nothing "optimized" about these apps. (And these have many settings which are now unreachable)

Some apps on the phone will scale differently on a tab, if you used the menu button n your phone doesn't necessarily mean the tablet version will need a hard menu button.
As I said before, if there is no menu button the bottom nav bar, it would be on the top right corner of the action bar. Older phone apps should show up a menu button automatically anyway. The only reason if there isnt one is that the developer chose so because they added one on the action bar.

Can you give us an example?
I've yet to encounter a single application with this issue, so I'd like to take a look.

Alright alright :/ Sorry that I am not any help but as far as I know there isn't any way to forcefully press the menu button.
The only option is to contact the dev and say the menu button is disabled.
