This is a still to be extended list of all the good stuff that is to be found in the community right now, kinda like xplode's iolite stuff thread (but newer). I have not programmed/cooked any of the material here and credit goes to their respective chefs. I merely wanted to share the stuff, I think, everybody should have. If you are having trouble with any given rom, it should also be discussed in their respective threads, unless it concerns downloading (broken link etc.). I am trying to get a clean list, so please refrain from posting here until I am finished with my post. All suggestions for additional apps are to be posted by PM for now.
1. For first time upgraders:
Take your device and go to Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory. If it shows 60.30MB like the screenshot

you can skip the first two procedures and proceed with "Upgrading a WM5/6 device", if not, you should follow this procedure:
THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE SUITABLE FOR WINDOWS XP COMPUTERS ONLY!!! If you use Windows Vista/7, please refer to d-two's tutorial here
ONLY FLASH YOUR DEVICE WITH A FULL BATTERY!!!
If you want to flash d-two's newest release, you should use his RUU and you don't need to resize the storage in advance, please look here.
For people running WM5/6x but with 43MB of storage or a non-English version of Windows Mobile 2003SE:
You have to downgrade to WM2003 and here's how to do that:
1. Download an english Windows Mobile 2003 SE rom from www.xplode.tk and the Chef_Tony RUU from my signature.
1.b extract them both and copy the nk.nbf, ms_.nbf and radio_.nbf from the downloaded rom to the RUU.
2. (If not already done) Connect the Cradle/USB Cable to the PC
3. Remove both the the SIM card and the sd card
4. Put the device into Bootloader Mode, pressing power+record and reset
5. your device display shows Serial v2.0x
6. on the pc (running Windows XP!) open the Task manager, go to the 2nd tab (Processes) and kill "wcescomm.exe" and "WCSEMgr.exe"
7. Now let's start the actual Upgrade:
8. Connect the Blueangel to the PC using the Cradle/USB Cable from Step 2. On the display "Serial" must change to "USB"!
9. Navigate to the Upgrade folder
10. Start Maupgradeut_noid
11. If in the 2nd window the rom version is not shown, something went wrong, start over!
12. Then start the upgrade and you should see a progress bar, also look at the device's display, it should also show the progress.
13. After it finishes perform a "WM2003 hard reset" by pressing power and reset
14. wait for the extrom to finish
15. now you can re-insert your sim and sd card (if you are planning to go on from here, you can also leave them out).
16. proceed with "For devices running wm2003"
For devices running an English version of Windows Mobile 2003SE:
1. Copy repart_doc.exe and the unlocker cab to the device and install the unlocker. In the start menu you will find a folder named "Extrom Tool".
2. Click "unhide" (if you are getting an error message, proceed with 2.a, else with 3.)
2.a the unlocker installs into the standard folder for program files, which depends on the rom language can be "\programme" or "\programmes" etc.
2.b the link in the start menu always points to "\program files"
2.c the easiest way, to solve that, is to rename your program files folder to "\program files"
2.d that destroys parts of the system, but doesn't matter because it is just needed for unlocking
2.e since now the link location should be correct, proceed with step 3.
3. Click "unlock", maybe a soft reset is needed.
4. Start repart_doc.exe
5. Set the future size, if not pre-entered, to 128kb (smallest possible partition size on this file system)
6. Click "Format now!"
7. Soft reset
8. Go back to the Extrom Tools
9. "Lock"
10. "Hide"
11. Now proceed with "Upgrading a WM5/6 device"
Upgrading a WM5/6 device
1. (If not already done) Connect the Cradle/USB Cable to the PC
2. Remove both the the SIM card and the sd card
3. Put the device into Bootloader Mode, pressing power+record and reset
4. your device display shows Serial v2.0x
5. on the pc (running Windows XP!) open ActiveSync, go to connection settings, and disable USB connections, alternatively open the Task manager, go to the 2nd tab (Processes) and kill "wcescomm.exe", "WCSEMgr.exe" and "rapimgr.exe"
6. Now let's start the actual Upgrade:
6.a copy the downloaded nk.nbf to any given folder, let's call it "Upgrade BlueAngel"
6.b copy the contents of this package to the same folder: MAupgradeUt_noID
6.c Connect the Blueangel to the PC using the Cradle/USB Cable from Step 1. On the display "Serial" must change to "USB"!
6.d Start MAupgradeut_noID
7. If in the 2nd window the rom version is not shown, something went wrong, start over!
8. Then start the upgrade and you should see a progress bar, also look at the device's display, it should also show the progress.
9. After finishing, take the device out of the cradle take out the battery and insert the SIM card
10. copy the EXTROM folder to the sd card and insert the sd card (optional, if your rom does not come with an extrom, you can also install cabs later manually)
11. BEFORE WINDOWS BOOTS, perform a Hard reset the device, pressing reset+power and record+camera (on devices w/o cam, use the wmp button instead!) and in the menu, that appears (if it doesn't come up, try again immediately, interrupt the boot!) set:
Enable_Kitl: NO
Clean Registry Hive: YES
Format Storage: YES
using the camera and record buttons.
12. press the mail button to confirm your selection.
13. your device starts for the first time, you align the screen and let the extrom install (if you have one), it soft resets and your device is ready to use.
Once you have a cooked rom on your BlueAngel, DON'T set a password, you won't be able to unlock the device again and you will have to re-flash the rom!

Once you have a cooked rom on your BlueAngel, DON'T set a password, you won't be able to unlock the device again and you will have to re-flash the rom!
4. Radio ROMs
Here is a list of the different Radio Roms available for the Blueangel. The Radio Roms are flashed just like the OS Roms.
The radio rom is necessary for wireless communications (GSM, GPRS, Wi-Fi, BlueTooth). Whenever the device is booted, the top line R: 1.xx.xx shows the current version. If your wireless communication works well, you shouldn't mess with it.

All corrupt radio roms removed. I uploaded the official radio update 1.15.00. If you are experiencing trouble flashing this version as it is (compiled .exe wizard), please extract the exe and flash it with a custom RUU.
5. EXTROM
Here you find a blank EXTROM, that you can fill up with any of the apps below.

All you need to do is:
1. Extract the EXTROM
2. copy any cabs you want into that folder (but careful, everything from the extrom will be installed to the internal storage! also, programs that need immediate setting up after installing (e.g. fingerkeyb) can cause the extrom to freeze)
3. copy the path to the cabs into the cfg.txt (see box below)
4. copy the entire folder to an sd card and insert that, the next time you have flashed your device or you hard reset.

7. MTTY
You might have heard of mtty in some threads. It can be used to give commands to the device while in Bootloader mode (It is comparable to hyperterminal or telnet in other fields). This program is useful if you are stuck in bootloader mode or you cannot hard reset because of broken hardware buttons.

Usage of the program:
1. Extract the zip file. (If you are getting a warning from your Anti-Virus Software, check it and ignore it. programs like this usually give out a heuristic warning due to their advanced functualities.)
2. Just like, when you are attempting to flash your device, you should disable USB connections in activesync, put the device into bootloader mode, connect the usb cable and wait for it to be ready (the display should read USB in the last line)
3. Start mtty
4. Set the following parameters:
4.1 Port: USB (or WCEUSB)
4.2 Baud: 115200
4.3 Data Bits: 8 Bits
4.4 Stop Bits: 1 Bits
4.5 Local Echo: No
4.6 Flow Control: NONE
4.7 Parity: None
4.8 Press OK
4.9 If you don't see the prompt "USB>" ("WCEUSB>") press Enter and it will come up
5. Now you are ready to type in commands
Here are just basic commands, to get you going:
A. If you want to use mtty to hard reset, type (don't copy and paste) the following command:

One thing that did occur to me... do you realize how many times you (and me as well a few times) have a posted most of this in the Q&A thread? (and also on threads that should not have been opened in the first place)...
Sometimes I wonder if we are the only people aware of the existence of the search button, the wiki, or even Google....
Oh well... I was only thinking about it
in the past i often linked people to the wiki, but atm it seems to be half-down. also many things in there seem to be outdated or simply down (ftp-links for instance). the entire procedure of upgrading with windows xp was a re-post of the tut i posted on the english 28008 thread, because people just don't read it when it isn't clearly marked as a tutorial and to be found in the first post of a thread.
@galluslongus: thanks for the info, i will look into it. with the big number of download links, the code for the posts is actually pretty long and errors can occure. i appreciate bug reports like that.
also there are 2 reserved posts left. any suggestions for sections/tuts that need to be covered (except for flashing with windows 7, that will definitely be posted, after i found a way that worked for me, i cannot post things i cannot confirm as working.)? if anybody could make screenshots of netfront concept 4 on BA, it would be very nice, as i posted, i messed up my BA with installing all that software for screenshots and have to have time to hard reset and set it back up, it has become awfully slow, as you can imagine. more nice and really useful titanium plugins would be nice, i know there is a thread listing them all, but i only picked the 3, that seemed the most useful to me and that i would really use.
also, thanks for the appreciation, i would also like this stickied, especially for the tutorial(s) and the ones to come. could spare a few beginners' questions.

When the application starts, it will search the Windows folder for available skins. With this we can prevent applying a skin that doesn't exist.
It also makes a backup of your present Comm manager settings (see ROM default settings), in case you want to go back.
After this is very simple. Just select one of the available skin, change the functions to your likings and apply changes.
There's no need to terminate the Comm Manager process, as the application will do it for you.

Default Skin - This skin will always be available since it belongs inside the CommManagerRes.dll(this file is necessary for Comm Manager to work, so...)
It supports from 4 up to 12 functions.
Touch Skin/Large Buttons Skin - This skin will be available, as long as the skin files are located in windows folder, and it has skin files for a minimum of 8 functions.
It supports 8 or 10 functions. When the user selects this style (skin), a popup window will appear to let him/her choose between 8 or 10 buttons.
(its up to the user to know which option to use, according to the files he/she has put into windows folder)
If the user wrongly selects the number of buttons to use, just select the skin once again and the popup will appear again.
If the skin files are the ones provided by HTC the user can quickly get the HTC settings by selecting the menu option "Default Settings".
If the option is not selected, when applying the skin, a popup will appear asking if the user wants to apply the default settings(if you have customized the skin for different settings, just press NO and the user's settings will be applied).

Default settings - It can be used in all styles, but the best use of this function is when "Touch Skin/Large Buttons Skin" is selected, to apply HTC Settings (since when using the HTC skin, the functions must be in a specific order, so the background doesn't get messed up)
ROM Default settings - On first run, the device backs up the existing Comm Manager settings. This option is used to get those settings back.
Apply settings - Use this option to apply the changes made to the Comm Manager settings.

If the user's language is not yet supported, it can easily be added by translating one of the existing languages.
To do this, open CMSettings.ini with a text editor, copy all lines from one language, and translate all the strings.
If the user's language needs special text encoding, make sure to save into a separate file.
Finnaly copy the new .ini to the same place where CMSettings.exe is, and restart the application.
Now the language will be available to be selected.

- Not all CommManager.exe versions support all skins.
So, if the user has the necessary skin files, applies changes but cannot see the skin or the skin doesn't display correctly maybe a different CommManager.exe version is required.

I know that, but with advance config you can apply any skin even if you don't have the necessary files for it to work, causing a black screen comm manager.
Lets just say I wanted to provide a SAFE stand alone application to make Comm Manager functions and style selection easier.

The program does not include any skin. You have to add the necessary skin files you want to use. After you do that, if all is ok, the program will let you choose the skin.
I'm very impressed, it's quite beautiful. I was pissed because the 8/10 button Comm Manager's black color clashed with the rest of my theme. Now, it looks great Thanks!

Q: Manila right softkey is named "programs", but by pressing on it launches camera
It is a known bug related to M2DC (M2D Config). Exactly after flashing all should be correct, but if you open M2DC, change something in it and accidentally press to softkey tab and then press ok (without modifing softkeys) M2DC automatically redefine softkeys to their default values Phone and Camera. So this bug is related to M2DC. Because i am not a developer of this program, i cant fix this.

It is related to bad calibration of your battery or your battery is bad (old)
Solution:
Buy a new battery.
Before you buy new battery, try this solution
Discharge your battery to 0% with video. Then without turning it on charge to 100%. Should happen recalibration of battery, if it is not so old.

-your pagepool seem to be 4mb(based on pagepool_by_wlodixon)
-and the dpad program doesn't seem to work
-you use the 80mb flash.dio (based on original flash.dio?) instead of the 76.9mb that other rom cooker use so you have a lot of unnecessary empty space at the end of file but I guess you will optimize later

I use kitchen by captaintrip, it always generates the same size of flash.dio file (80 mb). If you use something different or know how to decrese size of ROM, share your knowledge
you can change the TEMPLATE.ROM in ROM folder to a smaller one, I used pdalcan rom as template which is smaller, make sure you replace the xip with yours though. But I guess it probably doesn't matter much other than the flash file is smaller

Had same sh*t , used laptop Card reader , failed , used external USB port card reader - worked (took me serveral hourse to figure wtf) i thougt i messed up my phone
So if you're writing a file to a SD or whatever and pulling it straight out this mite be the case (windows didint finish writing to the card thus the "delayed write" failed)
Thaqnks for the Rom will try this on my 614c some time later on

BUT I have small advice - start menu font and context menu font size is too large.
Can you change size of it?
Just for example; ROM WM6.1 OS 5.2.20270 rev 1.2 FIX with iolite manila v22 (link is in sergiorus signature) has nice font size and exactly what I need and I am sure other guys will be satisfied

It is HTC Enlarge Start Menu program, in next update i will add a small control panel applet to enable/disable this feature.

It´s not what most of you want to hear, but this ROM freezes.
I had those freezes with the 4.79 full rom, too.
The system with what I flashed was Windows XP.
I had installed the recommended radio version 1.59.42.16.
I´m now trying if it´s active sync which causes the freezing.
Edit:
I did a hardreset and only connected my Orbit 2 to active sync (and I entered my PIN) and it freezes.
I think I´ll try to flash from another computer.
I will update here if there are news.
Edit 2:
Today, I´m going to reflash the original o2 rom, after that I´ll flash Olios and the radio rom again but all from another computer where I am able to deactivate all unneeded processes.
Maybe a hint, if you flash the rom, first get your phone connected to active sync and disconnect, check if it freezes when you turn off your screen.
If not, you probably have no problems.
Flashing Olio´s rom now.
First, I flashed o2 rom, then HTC splash screen, then radio to 1.59.46.12.
Testing if active sync makes the device freeze in a few minutes.
Edit 3:
Flashed rom, did a hardreset and connected device to active sync as a guest, it seems to be working.
Testing today.
Did NOT work. Performing a hardreset now and testing again.
Edit 4:
Did a hardreset, connected to AS but did NOT uncheck option "erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionen aktivieren" (don´t know what´s it in english, sorry, it´s options - connections - USB to PC)
Now, it seems to be working since 5 minutes.
I´ll update later.
It runs up to now. Probably, it´s the option "erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionen aktivieren" that causes the freezing.
If somebody needs help, I´m happy trying to help him!

Hmm. I use 4.79 Full Rom too. Flashed with Windows7RC 64bit. Absolute no problems/freezes. In my job I use ActiveSync with WinXP64bit for contacts and calender, no e-mail. No problems. Everything works perfect.

You know, this problem seem to appear in all the latest of my ROMs so
far, always it seems to be related to ActiveSync and/or the function
Erweiterte Netzwerkfunktionen. But it gets more and more mystical,
at least now, where this ROM may look not too different from the former
ones, but indeed it is completely new. I use new SYS, new XIP and
even new OEM (drivers). The only things left from former versions
is the two 1.60 drivers (pcem and ddi.dll) which are needed to achieve
the 100MB RAM. But I cannot imagine that these are the culprits,
because lots of cooks like pcarvalho or epimazzo use them also.
Moreover it is VERY interesting that this problem seems to affect only
some people, by far not all. I did not have it once on my test devices.
So I cannot help you with this, other than giving you some hints.

I plan to cook them, but as I don't use M2D myself this is something
I will do whenever it is some really lazy spare time so don't
expect it/them within the next few days. Maybe in some weeks or so.
I know that most of you prefer M2D full ROM as I can easily see at
the download count of the ROM versions. But it is a lot more difficult
to perfectly cook a ROM with lots of apps and enhancements than
a light ROM like the one which is out right now. I will take a look at it.

This thread is for everyone who don't want to use WM6.5 on iPAQ 910. I tried to use my iPAQ with WM6.5 but I have a lot of trouble with it. The reason for that is that Montecristo and WM6.5 developers push us to use touch friendly user interface without stylus! WM6.5 is not as fast as WM6.1 on iPAQ 910. I tried every WM 6.5 ROM from Montecristo. I have to admit that 6.1 is faster, easier, nicer. Maybe is that matter of taste, but since I use WM 6.1 I am much satisfier than with 6.5. However I think that HP iPAQ is device made to use with stylus, for business people, and we don't need to touch the screen with our fingers! We don't wont to have an iphone clone in our hands. So - back to basic.
I found this iPAQ 910 WM 6.1 ROM and now its time to flash your iPAQ back to basic, to WM 6.1. Please leave your feedback about differences between those to OS versions.

1. Its faster, easier, simpler.
2. You have more memory to use for programs.
3. You can install many programs, they dont work on wm6.5, like Viigo RSS reader and weather forecaster.
4. You can use your stylus, maybe its old-fashion way, but its more business like than playing with your finger.
5. You are using stable OS, not OS that is under development, and you can solve any issue easy. Off course you can use microsoft my phone, marketplace etc...

Atm i'm running original rom that i extracted from the iPaq RUU.
The only problem with 6.1 is actually the today lines and no touch scroll.

This is custom ROM, not original. Thats the reason why you have custom folders and 3th party apps. I don't have original HP ROM, and I don't believe that anybody else has original compressed ROM in flash.dio.

hi, i checked and thats true. the only solution that I can suggest you is to install Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 beta. You can download it here.
btw this is not my ROM, I am not developer.

To have an original flash.dio. You can do the following steps

- Execute the install. Notice that after installing, it will run the update utility.
Cancel it
- Go to the folder that the installer left the files, in my computer it was C:\iPAQ\SP40181, then you will notice that the file FLASH.NBF is there
- From the necessary software download, look for XVI32 and execute it, then open the file FLASH.NBF
- Click on the menu "XVIscript" then "Editor"
- In Editor, type: DEL 3432 then click on the "Execute" button
- It will ask you to save the script, it's not necessary
- Then Save the file as Flash.DIO.

It is based on wm6.5, oem, sys, rom taken from amenatis kitchen. 12 M pp / almost 140 M storage and around 50 M RAM. No radio included. 1.59.XX.XX is what I use.

Known bugs:
- two blips when welcome screen pops up (instead of one)
- Some icons still to be fixed and profiles to be finetuned
- If you have problems with the ROM, check pcarvalho's or alexander-vogt threads and flash original wm6.1 ROM before.

sorry for that ! never happened to me. Did you tap in the screen in the middle anyway? Please, anybody can confirm if it works or not? It if does not work I will remove the link, and do some more testing.
Edit: I flashed back to wm6.1 and then again my rom and it loads smoothly. Pcarvalho, alexander.voigt and others have detailed instructions in their roms and they recommend to flash original 6.1 first and hard reset after first flash.

You can place cabs in xda_uc and they will be installed automatically after flashing. This way I avoid double space (files doubled in windows and program folder) or overloading windows folder.
gettin rid of the ie in the first place is what i need

Hi, I will check the calendar language.
You should be able to config it yourself in the meanwhile. It is a today freeware plugin called Today Agenda, in a second today screen. You have an icon in my settings to configure plugins to be shown in SecondToday (you can add more plugins like windows default plugins or install new ones) Please, use the search function.
Regarding the plugin of the calendar, as I said it is called Today Agenda and should be configurable in a number of languages. I do not know if your language is supported but english should be.
I take note and will document more in next release and add othe languages if they are not in the ROM.
Regarding versions of the ROM in other languages, it is currently not in my agenda, sorry for that.
First I need to complete the ROM adding more support to other sd programs, adding backup buttons for the main apps (like speed dial), document my proposed sd xda_uc user customization, optimize folders for sd usage... upgrade to newer builds... test for true 6.5 kernel... optimize the xip... and then I will try to produce versions in main european languages.... That is defenetely a lot of work and time...
hengelo, jan_sorensen, listen ! why do not you try cooking one in your language !! We have kitchens in this forum that are ready to cook in the different languages and would be great to have new roms and cookers for all to enjoy !!

i managed to install it in my polaris and everything about it is so amazing. memory is almost unused! and major languages are available as well .. i also managed to install the following smoothly:-

However, either with or without these apps.. this version seems to consume lots of time just to boot up (about 4 minutes) n it freezes so badly to the extent that sometimes i have to hard reset.. and it freezes again while booting up system!
i've been working on finding a way to fix this problem but i cant seem to find any.
for the same of others, i hope i'm the only once facing this problem

I am aware of the long booting time (I am working on it) but I did not have freeezes here. The ROM has not arabic support at all, I do not know if it influences. Please, if you can explain further would be great if you could send me a pm or post here.
