Is there an .apk or app I can install to use the rocker switch to control forward/back/skip functions while in media mode? Most phones I have had of recent gave me this ability (several Blackberries and Iphones), would be super useful to gain that back.

I'm looking for a way to pause and resume media without interacting with the touchscreen. I don't care if it also wakes the screen, and I'm willing to remap a volume button to menu, camera, or whatever if necessary, though I would prefer just mapping it to a long-press, or better yet to the power button so that all media controls would be accessible without opening my case.
Are there any options?
Well, I have one less-than-ideal method:

1. install Media Keys app to add media controls to my shortcuts menu
2. use keysmod/NookKey Editor to map Menu to Vol- (I'd rather keep Vol-)
3. map play/pause to Menu longpress in CM Input settings
4. disable lock screen (I'd rather keep security)
5. use Power to wake the device, then longpress Vol- (now Menu)

Now, I'm already using the "Volume button music controls" setting which maps next/previous skip buttons to Vol+/- longpress when the screen is off. Does anyone conversant with ADB know a way I could swap in play/pause for previous on the Vol- key?
It would be ideal if I could map that behavior to the Home button; all it does now is wake the screen, which Power duplicates, but I suspect the framework is already in place for the Volume buttons, and it might be as simple as swapping one line of code for another.
I'm trying to submit more versatile "Volume button music controls" as a feature request for CM7, too, but if anyone has a more immediate solution I can implement myself, I'd like to give it a try.
A minor elaboration on the method above: keysmod lets me set the Vol- button (now Menu) as wake-on-press, so I can click it once to wake, then long-press to play/pause. Oddly enough, the long-press doesn't work if I left Google Music Beta (or probably any media player) on-screen when the NC went to sleep. I haven't tested extensively, but it's possible other apps would block the long-press behavior, too. So, for it to work reliably, you want to return to your homescreen before putting the NC to sleep.
Also, if nothing is playing, the long-press will start the default Music app. If another media player (including Google Music Beta) is playing, it will pause and resume that app.
I've poked my head into the CM7 code, but don't have so much as a toehold on tracking down and replacing the relevant bit of code to swap play/pause for previous track in the Volume button music controls setting. If any higher-level nerds than myself can offer a clue, it would be much appreciated.
ETA: My workaround is basically serviceable for using the NC as a PMP or bedside player, particularly for audiobooks where play/pause is going to be considerably more important than Vol-. If you're anxious that keysmod may affect Vol+/- functions in the CM7 boot menu or CMW, I can confirm that no, as expected, it does not.
hey guys, I use to use an app that allowed me to use the volume rocker buttons to control my music playback. Basically, the way it works is you quickly double click the volume up rocker to skip a song and double click the down volume rocker to replay/go back. You can use this functionality with the screen off and if you press the volume rocker at "normal" speed, it would control volume as usual. I used to use the app but since I switched to my N4, I somehow lost it and can't remember the name of the app in the play store. Any ideas?
Thanks!!
I was looking for one also and came across one called "Pocket Skip Track" on the play store.
Works great on stock 4.3 aosp. Hope that's what you were looking for!

If you are rooted, you can try any rom, all the roms here have that feature to change the song by long pressing the volume up button and play the previous song by pressing the volume down button.. I am on Slimbean and it has this feature so no need to waste the valuable space of our phones when you can get the feature in the rom itself.

Hi, my earphones don't have in line controls and I have been looking for a way to be able to skip tracks with the volume buttons. I have an 870DS so can't root and have tried a couple of apps including Frinky but cannot get any of them to perform the next track function.
Anyone have a method or app that will do this?
- I use Optical Audio output on my Sony A9F to connect to external speakers with no volume control, and I want to control the volume.
- Unfortunately Sony decided to cut the connection between main volume and Optical volume level, so changing main volume does not affect Optical audio output level.
- there used to be an option in TV menu that was "Headphone Level Variable/Fix", but it is removed from the menu in the last update.
- There is a "Digital audio out volume" page that can only be accessed after many remote control buttons pushes, making it inconvenient for changing the volume level.
- I tried Tasker, and with it I could open the Headphone Variable/Fix page, but changes I make there do not affect anything and they do not stick, they get forgotten when I close it and back to default.
- With Tasker, I am trying to quickly open the level control setting page that has the Digital Output Level Control, but no luck
- I tried App Opening in Tasker, used ALL option, and tried all available apps a,d those accessed by long press, did not find one related to it.
- Maybe there is a hidden package name not included here, if there is, How can I find it?
- I tried Custom Settings to change the digital volume directly, but could not find the corresponding setting.
- My last resort will be to use Auto Input, but currently trying this.
- I am not sure if Android TV operates strictly on Android system, or it still has it's own internal system for some options but with Android interface, but still if the Android interface can access it, Tasker should be able to do that, right?
Any Help?
I've got a Joying JY-UQD11N4G - so far, so good. Really happy with the stereo.
Only issues so far is not having any physical volume controls on the stereo.
I've got steering wheel controls which work, but want something on the screen.
Is it possible to setup some sort of onscreen volume control?
Maybe a multi finger (3?) swipe of some sort?
I'm currently using Car Launcher Pro.
best option without root would be to install a shade replacement that has a volume control, not sure if powershade has this as an option or not.
Power Shade: Notification Bar - Apps on Google Play
Personalized custom notifications for a better user interface and experience.
play.google.com
with root someone could definitely write such a thing.
you may be able to do something in accessibilty but have never tried.
