Battery Life with Radio 2.07.50.27_02 - HD2 General

I want only give my experience with this new Radio 2.07.50.27_02. I use Miri ROm v 1.5 with wm 6.5.3. One thing that was boring me,was the fact of the battery drain. I wakeup normaly on 7h morning and on 13h my battery was drain to 55 - 50% with 15 min of internet search, 5 min RSS feeds update, 10- 15 min on phone and 30 min mp3 player on the car with S2P, one weather update (3h) and one twitter update. No Bluetooth and no WIFi.
I have flash this Radio 2.07.50.27_02 on Saturday night and on Sunday (Yesterday ) i have verify immediatly that the drain was less. But today i know that is true. I use the phone in the same way i use every week day and on this time, 13:50 , i have 83% of Battery. I will confirm this again tomorrow.
I wan´t only give this information for anyone that wan´t try this Radio. I have try a lot of Radios but this is amazing.
Sorry for my bad English.

Same with i had this battery problem with all roms and radio which ever i install atlast i found my solution with this radio its amazing give it a shot its gr8
thanx

I have the exact same experiences with that radio! It's simply outstanding and it also works well with the 576 RAM hack.

radio 2.07.50.27_2
+1. very poor battery performance in the first day after flashing this radio. now it improved a lot but not quite as good as the previous ones...
the speed and stability is fantastic though.

16:30h . Make one call 3 min and one weather autoupdate. 80%.
3% drain in 3 h. Great!!!

This is absolutely normal.
Is the HD2 your first HTC?
Battery life after a flash is always terrible.
You need to wait at least a full discharge before talking about battery life.
The best thing to do after the flash is a full battery cycle (i.e. full discharging, taking out the battery for 2 mins, putting it back, full charge, battery out for 2 mins, battery in -- your done).

Yes, this is my first HTC. Buggy, thirsty, not what I expected but I love every minute with my phone because of everything else about it. This community has a lot to do with it though...
About the full battery cycle, I did all the steps except taking the battery out 2 mins after full charge. I'll try again, thanks.

also really helps to charge unpowered after a full drain.. (usb not the charger)

Hi Manuel,
Can you update what else you are using on your phone, do you have Exchange enabled.. what about the syncing.. is it 'as items arrive' or syncing manually.
Do you have hotmail syncing as well?
Do you use IM?
Sorry for so many questions, just want to see if you're phone usage is similar to mine
Thanks!

where can we get this radio and can we flash it to any rom?

Because of drain of the battery i have removed all the autoupdates from twitter ; Hotmail and other two emails accounts. The only think that i keep on autoupdate is the weather and my location that sync every 3h. i will keep this settings for one day more to see if i have the same good results of battery as the last two days.
Today again i have wakeup on 7h with full charge of battery. on 30 min of trip to work i use the phone as mp3 player. 10 min use of internet to make all the updates from RSS FEED and E-mails. At this time (9.10h)i have 92%. very good!

You can get it from the rom development section, I'm not convinced about this radio yet, the power drain does not seem to be better than the 2.06 one I was using previously. I'll try for a bit longer though and see how it goes.

excessive battery consumption... help needed

Hi.
i am using Touch HD with extended 2600mAH battery and lots of software but the battery barely last a day. i was hoping you could help me diagnose the problem.
configuration :
-duttys XT 3.0 using manila
-1 hour of talk time a day at the most
these are my main suspects :
-checking for mail on two accounts every half an hour
-S2U2 1.62
-phonealarm
-pocketbreeze new PB2
-touchresponse
i installed nueDynamicClock but i can't see any difference.
first of all, maybe this sounds normal to you ? maybe my device is defected ? i'm sure the battery is ok.
maybe someone knows a good battery diagnostic program...
any comments you have on any of my suspected software ?
thanks,
david
Try this, quoted from official HTC site:
My battery drains fast even without using Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS. Is there any way to check if it’s faulty or not?
1. Charge the battery to 100%. 2. Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications. 3. Disable Bluetooth. 4. Disable WiFi. 5. Enable flight mode 6. Set backlight to maximum settings. 7. In the power management settings, uncheck any option that would set the backlight to turn off. 8. Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity. 9. If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.

well obviously this doesn't help me too much because, as stated, the battery last almost a day with full usage so this diagnostic will be a negative... but surely something is wrong. Thanks anyway.
didn't anyone have any problems with one of the above ?

Why dont you check the idle cpu usage when your phone is on but not doing anything. It should be 98-99% most of the time. If you get high cpu usage by shell or services then it is most probably phoneAlarm or other plugins on Today screen.
If you are using wifi, make sure you set it to off when standby. (Note: If you are using AE Button (mine is v2.63) and if you use it to turn ON wifi, the wifi will not go to sleep even in standby thus draining battery)

Multiple problems after installing 1.48

I don't even know why did I update, 1.43 worked fine for me. After I installed 1.48, I've noticed several problems:
- battery drains a lot faster
- problem with the auto lock, or lock with "end" button - after I want to use the device again, it won't turn on all the time, buttons glow, but nothing happens
- few times phone didn't wanna dial some people when I enter their contact and try to dial their numbers
Anyone experiencing similar issues? Both versions of ROM (1.43 and 1.48 are WWE East Europe)
can't be that I am the only one facing these problems in 1.48
hehehe seems u are tryed to flash 1.48 a second time?
I seem to be having a problem at the moment with 1.48 where sometimes (usually) if I plug in my phone to the computer it freezes up. Only way to solve it is to take the battery out.
Don't know if it's to do with 1.48 or some other program I've installed. Doesn't seem to do it all the time but it really p!ssing me off. That battery cover isn't easy to get on and off. Why on earth didn't they put a small reset button somewhere like on my trusty Trinity.

I reverted to 1.43 WWE East Europe, downloaded from HTCPedia, but seems like battery is again draining a lot faster than on my stock ROM. I don't know what whas the catch in my stock ROM, the one I got when I bought the phone, but seems like battery was far best on it.
It was 1.43 WWE East Europe as well btw, I have no clues..
the problem with battery is with htc sense. You can notice this disabling it for a day and using the Windows default. It is a huge diference
Im using 1.48 official and not get any special problem....
Yes, sometimes after reboot my device I not get lock of screen. But if to do long press of OFF button and choise LOCK then all works fine. Also, I have problem with Skype, but it not special problem, I think.
Battery works about 1-2 day with my style of using device. It mean 1-2 hour of speech, WiFi when available, Inernet browesing and checking mail every 10min. I think, this normal.
With 1.48 I have more faster connect to WiFi, more stable connect in GSM and more natural sound.
May be, I will reflash my device to 1.43, but now Im happy from 1.48.
i have the same battery drain with 1.48,
back to 1.43
I have similar problems. 1.43 was working great for me and I thought I could get a little more out of my HD2 with 1.48. Turns out not. Battery life has decreased, the phone crashes every now and then (as opposed to never with 1.43) and the camera takes horrid pictures with the flash. I am thinking of reverting back to 1.43. I am using the Western Europe ROM.
I will now wait for official HTC roms before installing anything.
Sure you can disable Sense and have huge battery life but that sort of defeats the purpose of the HD2 in my opinion.
Bear in mind that WM seems to take a little time to 'calibrate' the battery with each new ROM. Various threads I have read suggest anything from 2-3, up to 10 or more battery drain/recharge cycles before you get a true reading.
Ditching a new ROM after only a day or two may therefore be a little previous...

Strange with 1.48 I can take really great photos which I couldn't with 1.43. My phone since I have flashed it to 1.48 never hang/crash but battery drains very fast.

I had also read something like that regarding the battery and new roms.
example for Energy ROMs
BATTERY SAVING TIPS
The first few days
• There is nothing special about this ROM to make it use more power than other ROMs except that it is tweaked for performance over battery life. After things have settled down, you should get a couple of days usage out of a charge.
• Immediately after flashing, you will probably observe very poor battery performance. This is due to the charging circuit having to reset itself.
• The battery meter will not settle down and give accurate readings for a few battery cycles. Give it a few days.
• For the first few battery charging cycles, try to charge to 100% with phone off and then allow battery to drain down quite a bit before recharging. This is so the meter will calculate drain well.

Battery drain & other issues
I am not having iszues with 1.48. battery drain.
I heard this so often in the HD forum but never experienced it, and I was flashing Miri's roms every second day.
If people mean their battery runs down very quickly after a flash, well it takes a lot of power to reboot, and then you are probably going to run the device for a while to get all your settings back. Well this I have experienced, but next charge, no problems. I flashed yesterday and recharged overnight and after a day of use my phone had 50% left. No issues yet either.

Was about to agree with you when i noticed something today: i usually charge my phone overnight (it doesn.t matter how much battery i have i just do it to be sure) but few nights i left it without a charge and notice 3% to 4% battery drain overnight (1.43 rom). After update(1.48) i left it overnight and noticed 11-12% battery drain(even though i left my phone for a few days to get used to the new rom). Don.t want to jump to conclusions yet but there could be something about battery drain in the new ROM.

Common sense Possible crappy battery fix

It probabbly seems ive been spamming the forum with alot of useless threads, but ive gone through many threads about some peoples battery only lasting a few hours, like mine, and others who last almoast two days! so anyway i was just wondering if anyone has just gone out and bought a new battery for there hd2 and the problem was fixed, as in the battery your phone shipped with was just a bad battery. i was just wondering all this before i went ahead and shed out a few bucks for a new battery,so incase the new battery dies at the same speed, i could save some money. thanks everyone!
stock rom- battery life is bad.. just barely making it through the day...
custom rom- people claiming battery life lasting "2 days" which i say is an overexaggeration...
and if you are just talking about accessories.. like batteries....well there is no bigger battery for us.. unless you want to get the extended battery.. which makes you hd2 fat....
now i'm still upset at the fact that the Evo comes shipped with a 1500 Mh battery... and that was modled after our HD2!! which means.... that technically.. there should be a 1500 Mh battery available for us....
but of course... there isn't... for some reason............. which does not make sense at all...... because regardless of the "Minor" differences between the Evo and HD2... they are both slim... almost identical in dimensions.... So the battery should be about the same size.... give or take..... man, i'd even buy a 1450 Mh battery... which would give me about 2 extra hours of battery life...
before anyone says it.. the batteries that are out right now.. are way too close to the stock capacity.. which would make my purchase worthless... I want to increrase my battery life.. not emulate it......
Also.. i do NOT want to keep an extra battery on me.. i do not have a purse... so i can't keep batteries on hand... thats just one big hassle....
and i DO NOT want to flash a custom rom.. stability and bug-free is the only way i like my phones.. i don't care if you never had to charge your battery ever again...... I'm sticking with stock..
so yea.. in other words... i'm just screwed........
love the phone though
Save Battery on HD2
TIPS
Besides the crappy battery that you might have it actually involves lots of things, such as ROM, Radio, Activesync etc...
- Running HTC Sense will drain your battery much more faster than running Titanium.
- Closing Unused apps that are running on the background from the task manager will help, dont use microsft direct push instead have it checked every 4hours or manual (that save A LOT of battery) also any other apps that connects to the internet automatically such as weather, twitter or facebook will drain your battery MUCH FASTER than usual.
- Hving he GPS enabled will drain your battery to ZERO In no time.
- I've came to realize that the Energy Rom's drain my battery soooooooo quick, So I stop Using energy's Rom's, I've also Notice that Duttys 2.11 base Rom with 2.09 Radio (Not the 2.13 base Rom) It has given me almost 2 full days (listening to music as well) so try out different roms and see whats best for you.
- Another thing You might wanna do is change your band from Automatic to Manual and go from manual H & 3G to Manual EDGE the times your not using the internet because if you simple choose automatic, since the Radio for getting the H, 3G, E, GPRS is located on the bottom of the phone (I made a thread about this) sometimes it will constantly jump from one to the other therefor wasting EVEN MORE battery that if it was just on 3G or E all the time.
- also you can try out this registry Mods I've been Using for the longest time (found them somewhere on XDA), I've use them on my WIZARD, EXCALIBUR, JUNO and they seem to do wonders with the battery:
1. HKLM\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms\DisablePowerManagement
Change Dword value from 1 (default) to 0
2. HKLMComm\Irsir1\Parms\DisablePowerManagement
Change Dword value from 1 (default) to 0 i cant seem to find this on my dash or shadow
3. HKLM\Comm\PPTP1\Parms\DisablePowerManagement
Change Dword value from 1 (default) to 0
4. HKLM\Comm\L2TP1\Parms\DisablePowerManagement
Change Dword value from 1 (default) to 0
TIP 3
REGEDIT4

"DisablePowerManagement" = dword : 00000000
(I've also attached the cab I have for the tweaks)
So Before Buying a New battery try this out and see if you Notice any difference.
Hope it Helps

That sums up how i feel!!! but personaly im fine about the capacity of my battery, its just that it goes down like 3% in 10 minutes, and this is when the screen is turned off! heres an example..... i charge my phone to 100% overnight , then in the morning at 7 i unplug it and get on the bus to go to school, on my way to school i listen to music the whole bus ride. when l finnaly arrive at around 7:20 , my battery is already down to like 87%!!! ive read on alot of forums about peoples batterys dying quickly like mine, and i have tried everything, so before i go out and purchase another battery i would like to know if it could be a battery or software problem....... BTW i agree with you on that extended battery looking ugly! lol

Alright i setup my phone for manual downloads and ran the cab (thanks btw!), and ive disabled gps, but im keeping sense running along with energy, i will post back on this when i get home from school, since right now it is 2:54 a.m. where i am. thanks for spending all that time for the tips! if the problem persists i will try running a diffrent rom, and then ill post back again! thanks again.
I usually carry a battery box like Sanyo mobile booster when traveling. I use 5000mah version it can charge you hd2 several times over and cost around 38USD in country where i lives. I prefer this over carrying a spare battery.
alright i got an update, so from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. the battery drained down to 16% from 100% i guess thats not too bad considering i used it mildly , but still i think this is still too much drainage, i had airplane mode on, i had wifi off, and i used all the reg fixes and what not. so im gonna let it drain completly install that rom that you were talking about and see how stuff goes tommarow.

Wow, that is pretty bad. I'm normally on the go with mine from around 10am to 8pm, and use bluetooth, music, 3G, browsing, texting, a few games, and exchange/gmail/hotmail sync every 30mins. By the end of the day, the battery's usually around 50%. Have you tried different radios? they made a big difference for me.

By the end of the day, the battery's usually around 50%. Have you tried different radios? they made a big difference for me.

I run Direct Push all day long starting at 7:30 AM... Right now it's 12:42AM the following day and I'm at 25% left. I don't do a lot of talking. Mostly email, texting, twitter, Internet with maybe 15 minutes total of talk time per day. I also end all tasks in the task manager before I put my phone down for any amount of time and leave wifi turned off unless I want to connect to a network.
I've found that if I'm in a location without a good signal that my battery drains a lot faster. Searching for a signal is taxing the battery... Lucky for me I'm always in really good 3G spots. House and office both have full 3G bars.
I'm running stock everything.
If I turn off direct push, I'll use like 25% over the course of like 15 hours... It lasts almost two full days...
When I get a new phone or any gadget with a lithium ion battery, I always make sure to drain the battery completely and fully recharge with the power off at least for the first two charges to condition it. It really does make the battery hold a charge for a longer period. Transformers is a good way to drain this phone... With my HD2 I let the battery drain completely twice with two "power off" full recharges. By completely drain, I mean, keep turning it back on until eventually it won't turn on at all...
I noticed with this phone that once the battery was completely drained, that I had to actually remove the battery and put it back in so that it would even charge... I thought that was weird, but no big deal... I'm also pretty good about letting it completely drain at least once during the week with a "phone off" full recharge...

Update: alright today after a full discharge and then a full charge overnight i ran the phone using kumars rom along with the 2.09 radio and the power saver on sbs tweaks and those reg edits that tuppacc gave me. today i left the wifi and the phone function on, and yesterday i didnt, anyway once again i used it mildly , but a little bit more then yesterday, so from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. it went from 100% to 10% , which to me is still crappy, so i think im gonna go ahead and order a new battery and see if thats whats wrong.

To me that's good. I can barely get 4 hours from 100% to about 10%. Well that's because I use it non stop, surfing the web. Now during the night without touching it i get like 10% drained during 7-8 hours.

Horrible battery life on EVO after rooting

Hi all,
I folowed both part 1 and part 2 to root and unlock nand on my evo. I loaded the freshevo 0.3 ROM and applied the 4g fix from flipz. Now, my Evo lasts about 5 hours in standby before the battery is dead.
My Evo used to last most of the day before I rooted it. Has anyone experienced similar issues?
Thanks,
Rayden1000
Did you flash the new radio?
Did you leave 4g on?
Gps?
Bluetooth?
What are your sync settings for social network, weather, news?
We need more info than my battery sucks.
Flashed the new radio.
4G is on - as before rooting.
Bluetooth, WiFi is off.
GPS is on - as before rooting.
Syncing is at 4 hour intervals.
Exchange is "as items arrive" - as before rooting.
I know that everyone complains about the battery on the EVO, but my phone is dead after just a few hours of non-usage.
My Up time and Awake time are almost the same, so I think something is preventing the phone from sleeping. An hour ago I went to some setting that listed which app is using what percentage of the battery. I can't remember where I went to check that now, and it wasn't the stock battery settings app. It said that HTC Sense is using 97%.
Thanks,
Rayden1000
Try this

Also you might have a bug with 4g where it is constantly connecting or trying to connect. See if the fix above works. If not try damagecontrols rom and see if its any better. Or you can try disabling 4g and see if there us a huge huge huge gain.
I do know that right now some of the custom roms have had 4g issues. I'm not in a 4g area so its hard for me to test.
Thanks Aridon,
I already checked out that thread, my phone is set to CDMA auto.
And yes, I did have the 4g bug when I unlocked NAND through method 2. I found the fix that flipz posted and that has fixed the 4g issue. I also flashed the freshevo 0.3 rom that has the 4g fix built in.
I will try flashing the 4g fix again right now, but does anyone have any other suggestions? It seems that battery performance decrease is a common issue after flashing custom ROM's.
Rayden1000
You should consider doing the steps in that thread regardless if what it shows. The hero had a display bug in that regard for some and perhaps so do some evo. Seems odd but there are differences because when you start playing with kernels it will boot on 002 devices but not others so there are differences.
I'd do it, set it and reboot. Don't go back in to see if it changed just start a new battery test And check for improvement
turn off 4g, my evo has everything yours does! but end of the day i get home and still have over 50% battery life left! if you have 4g on it drains the crap out of battery. only turn it on when your going to use it!

I do understand that 4g decreases the battery life significantly. What I am trying to say in this thread is that after I rooted and unlocked nand on my evo, the battery life is MUCH MUCH worse then before rooting. My phone's battery now goes from 100 to 0 in about 4 hours - while I am not using it at all.
I am just trying to figure out what process is running all the time and prevents the phone from going to sleep.

Dude download Overclock Widget. Do a google search for: Overclock Widget HTC Evo.
I swear on everything I love that after I installed it and went through the settings my battery lasted 11 hours today. I still had 23 percent left and I streamed some videos on the web, listened to music, played around all day with my phone. It really works and some people claim 30 plus hours of battery life.
It works and I will post a screenie tomorrow of the proof.
Whatever it was, installing Damagecontrol 3.1.2 ROM "appears" to have fixed the issue. My phone has been in standby for about an hour and I have 93% battery left. I will leave it alone for the night and will post the battery status tomorrow morning.
Thanks to everyone for trying to help.

Baked snack ROM in my observation gets THE BEST battery life of all the roms out thus far.

I may have spoken prematurelly, this morning the battery is dead again. I have tried numerous ROMs with the same result. I also tried old radio ROM ans new radio ROM.
Has anyone been successful at following both part 1 and 2 of rooting and maintaining decent battery performance?

Not to sound noobish, but did you already disable GTalk auto sign in and then sign out?

Did you NOT just read my above post. I clearly gave you a fix SMH. Here's proof of what I'm talking about:
I took a screenshot with the ShootMe app. I'm currently running Fresh's latest ROM. The screenshot indicates that I had it off the charger for over 14 hours. I used my phone today to send a lot of text, skyfire, streaming flash websites, etc. By the way I have about 40-50% battery left.
Installed overclock widget, set it to run at around 247 mhz at all times - same result. Evo battery is dead after about 4-5 hours. Does anyone have the original ROM for the Evo? I tried running the RUUxxxxx.exe files, but they all fail - probably due to me rooting and unlocking nand, therefore modifying the file system.
Rayden1000
I've been running Fresh 0.3 for a few days now and haven't seen a problem. Have you tried getting a task manager and making sure there isn't a program running in the background causing all this? Also, is your phone hot... if it is, it means you go something taking up some major cpu time.
I had a similar issue with my Hero, the cause was it was trying to sync the calendar over and over non-stop. You should look at your account syncing also, there could be a problem there.
Sounds as if you have something running in the background that is killing your battery. When you are flashing your roms, are you doing a wipe first or just flashing over whatever you had before?
I don't see how you're running overclock widget and getting bad battery life. Download Advanced Task Killer and kill those tasks.
I also had an issue like that after installing some ROM (I forget now what one, since it was a while ago) and my battery died over night while I was sleeping. I don't really know how (if I did) fix it, but I wiped everything, factory/data/dalvik/battery stats (whatever that is) all those options, then installed a new ROM and it seemed to work fine.
As for the overclock widget, I downloaded that and tried to use it, but it didn't seem like it worked. It just didn't seem to stick and I didn't really see any increase (maybe even a decrease) in battery life. Probably the best thing that you could do is get a task killer and see if there is something running that needs to be killed. The awake time shouldn't be anywhere near the uptime

Battery life is extremely short

Hey guys, I've had the phone since Saturday and even though I've been through a few charge cycles my battery only lasts about 6-8 hours. Today I took the phone off the charger at 10:00 AM and it died on me at 5:45 PM. I only texted a few times and only did an hour or so of Slacker Radio. Seems a little low for what I'm doing with the phone.
I am on Kumar's classic 2.2 ROM with 2.11 radio.

A lot of things can drain the battery, 3g on in a no 3g area, weather updates, twitter , email updates ...
But If I was you I would try a diff radio ... I get a full day out of mine at this point a little more ...
I've tried 2.12 as well and the battery didn't improve.
Is your activesync checking as items come in? That's what drained mine terribly. Basically, it can be a ton of things that make your battery drain such as:
1. backlight
2. agps
3. certain programs
4. etc
You'd have to list a bunch of stuff on what you're doing to your phone
Can you turn activesync off? If so, how?
Also, any other tips to save battery life?

Definitely lower down the screen brightness to 20%, turn off Bluetooth and WiFi, don't let things like Twitter and your e-mail update so often.
Also using the internet/music/videos will drain quite a bit of power, especially if you use the internet while listening to music.
Yeah I mainly use internet radio while at work. Would using WiFi be easier on the battery than using 3G/H?

Yes, I've done it both ways and wifi most definitely draws less juice when streaming data than 3g (and when idle too, for that matter)
do you think it matters whether you install programs on your SD card or on the device?
i have CHT installed on the SD card and i can't make it 8 hrs on light usage.
I only have 3 apps installed so far, but it's on the device.
Also, is there a way to have the default wallpapers without animation? I'm sure that doesn't help the battery every time I unlock the phone either.

Yes. Try installing it on and running it from the phone instead, I'm sure you'll see at least a noticible difference.
Honestly, there's really not much of any reason to install apps on the SD card with this phone...there's more storage available than even most power users would ever come close to filling.
im in teh same boat. had it since march. on elegancia rom which people say is great for battery. on 2.12
now im in a bad service area in my basement often so i know sometimes thats the cause. but even at the gym 40 mins of internet radio dropped my battery almost 20 percent.
if i do nothing with the phone it usually drops 5 pct an hour 10 pct with moderate use but 20 easily if i do anything on the web over 3g or wifi. its awful
oh and i have lumos configured, i only have email connect every 2 hours and weather every 6. nothing else connects

Wow! your phone's battery usage sounds a little over the top. Might want to try using a different radio. 2.08 has given me the best signal/battery efficiency, but of course that varies from phone to phone.
Also, I bought a 2600 mAh battery so now I'm not afraid to use my phone. As long as you don't mind the extra bulk it adds to the back of the phone , I would suggest getting an extended battery to everyone complaining about how their battery dies too fast.
I will back up the statement that putting apps in main memory will save you battery ...
The less your phone has to access the SDcard the less power it uses.
A big thing is if you have any apps that run all the time that are on the SDcard , not only does it drain battery but will degrade the performance of the SDcard .
Anyone else have any ideas?
talked to tmo on webchat last night got em to send me a new battery
so if nothin helps at least il have two
I'm trying that method right now, we'll see what happens.
