Flashed Android 2.1 (CKDroid 1.6), everything is perfect, except one thing - it is sms. For some reason, SMS app sometimes uses a first word or even a letter of a message as a header, and doesn't show number. If it is a general SMS, from a person on my contact list, everything is normal. But, it always happens with system messages, like from my bank, or operator.
Anybody experienced that, or knows a way to fix?
Do you use android's sms app?
yes, the standard one.
Do you encounter this bug also with external apps (like chompsms)?

all the same, like in your ROM.
I guess, it is not a bug, more like an annoying feature. Can we turn it off?

Something has corrupted my message notifications, so I no longer recieve sounds for messages and emails etc. Enough though the hot fix addressed the SMS loading thread issue, I bet it has caused the issue I currently have, as I havent installed anything else. The SMS loading issue may have been annoying at times, but there were easy work arounds. Not hearing or feeling when a message comes in is damn annoying!
After installing this hotfix on my phone, I downloaded my archived messages (about 2000 of them) and tried the SMS tab. Everything worked great, apart from the known and reported issues about the display going a little odd when it had loaded all messages.
Everything was fine and then my phone suddenly started running slower than my old HD used to. Everything was stuttering and laggy, and I mean the whole phone - not just the SMS tab.
After numerous restarts and turning things off and on again, I finally re-archived all my text messages so that there were none on the phone and guess what.... it's fine again now.
The hot"fix" wasn't so hot if you ask me.

I'm using 1.48 official. I'm gonna leave it till 1.6 comes out before I choose whether or not to go unofficial.
I'm not sure what this thread is about, but I recently got my HD2 and it won't send all my SMS. Is this what the patch is for?

It does look nice, but I'd probably turn it off straight away as I'd never use it!
Its available in the Middle eastern website
I sent an email on the HTC Website and I got a reply that Hot Fix was pulled out because of compatibility issues.
Edit: by the way, they said a new one will be released soon.
Now I believe this is something that has been happening since 1.5 and its a little annoying, I wanted to check with you guys to see if this too is irritating to more people.
now to send a new Text msg, I type the first couple letters of the name and wait for the possible contacts to show and select, now what irritates me is that not only do the mobile numbers show up but also their home numbers, now I know that technology has gotten better and that on some cases home numbers can receive text msgs(verizon fios customers I believe has this feature). but 99.999% of the time you are only texting mobiles.
so the 1 million dollar question, can this be modified so that it only shows mobile numbers ???
I've looked at the settings for messages and didn't find anything there, if you guys have found something please let me know.
im running dc 2.1 rom, but I've seen this on all roms used on my hero.
Im trying to remember if aosp has the same issue, maybe some aosp guys can check for me.
I had the g1 before the hero and I dont remember having this, but well its been a while.
Thanks.
I believe it just pulls up all contact information for the contact you're entering. It WOULD be nice if it had a smart feature to just show the mobile number, I agree. But I don't believe there's a setting for it.

Yeah, but I think he's talking about the default messaging app.
I dont know if everyone is aware but Sprint has text to landline. Anytime you send a text message to a landline Sprint leaves a message. Ive been using this feature for the past 6 months. It works in english and spanish. Not perfect but good enough. Im guessing its included on the simply everything plans Because I did not request any service like this. Anyway:
The Default messages app is limited to 10 contacts at a time
There also an issue with spanish characters like ó,é,i,ñ, etc. Well, its not a android issue, is that most other phones do not support these characters and the whole text message gets messed up
If I was you I would switch to Handscent.

Handcent is a little intimidating at the beginning. Play with the options for a while and you'll get the full potential.

This is because Carriers supports Text to landline now, were you can send a text to a home phone.

But you don't have to. Works great "right out of the box"
Might just want to enable notifications from handcent and disable notifications from the Messages app.

I agree. I meant intimidating because the amount of options that are available for modification.
I know the LED notification on the Sprint CDMA Hero times out after about 5 minutes. I was wondering if there is a to make it keep blinking forever as long as their is a notification.
I think Handcent and maybe some other 3rd party messaging software can have a setting to make it blink however long you want, but I would like to be able to control this without installed a different messaging program and have to worry about it draining battery and stuff. Also, I like the stock messaging app.
Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? Thanks!
I second this.
Anyone?

No simple setting to change it to work with stock software(excluding market apps that have functionality)... needs to be edited within the rom files.

Yea, this is what I was thinking maybe someone could do. It was possible in Windows Mobile (Touch Diamond for example), so Im guessing it could be possibility on Android? But of course I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe a dev could look into this?
Thanks for the input
hi guys..
I have updated to DC 2.08 and almost everything is perfect.
my problem is with Handcent. It will not show the images of my friends. I have tried uninstall Handcent.. reload.. rebooting. I have deleted ALL text messages, but new messages do not show images.
I tested with the stock sms app, and it shows the images!!!!!
Anybody have a fix for this???
Also... I heard that this new ROM will remove the annoying .. double menu - pop up- on thing. ie. when you press menu twice to wake up the phone... the menu pops up. But it is still there!!!
Love the ROM, fast and stable. these are my only issues.. so I am hopping someone can point me to the fix.
Thanks all!
I have the same issue. Sometimes it happens randomly. I don't think it has to do with the ROM in particular. It happens nearly every time I swap or upgrade ROMS or restore all my apps via Titanium after a wipe. :/
Would like to know the answer to this.

yeah.. been using Handcent since i got the phone back in Dec. and have used it with all sorts of ROMs and all of DC's ROMs too. DC2.08 is the only ROM that has caused this to happen.
Maybe it is time to try a different SMS app.???
Looks like I can not find a solution to correct handcent
Downloaded compsms
It is working just fine
Now I can see contact images

I had a problem on DC 2.05 I think it was where handcent wouldnt work but I think it had more to do with the update that handcent sent out I would have suggested uninstalling and reinstalling

make sure to always do the basic troubleshooting before reporting an issue. uninstalling and reinstalling is probably a good place to start. also consider a fresh wipe and reinstall of the ROM.
happy flashing!

yes.. you are 100% right!!
please reread my original post. Did the reinstallation of handcent x2. did not help.
I did not reinstall the ROM. That was a last resort for me, because I have everything setup as I want it.
It is odd that both stock app and compsms works fine, and shows the contact images. So, I am leaning towards Handcent latest update was the issue. it must be conflicting with something on my phone... maybe DC 2.08.
Anyways, CompSMS is working fine. I like Handcent better, but this OK. The new big comp widget is odd to me, not sure if I like it.
So, I have the original leo version of hd2 and the sms lag has been bothering me since the first day i got my phone in march. I text about 1200 text a month and you have no idea how annoying the sms lag is. So I'm just wondering if there is any sms lag in the T mobile version? Lag such as when you are typing your sms, it takes forever for the history to load and then you would have to tap it again to input your text.
Please let me know, if there isn't any lag at all I will flash my hd2 and put in the T mobile version of manila.
THANKS

Yeah, it exists for a lot of owners of the T-mo version as well. I think the cause in your case (as in many others) is the number of texts you have on the phone. Here's a post I put up about that same thing just last night:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6455539&postcount=2
If you go into menu, options and make the messages standard, not threaded this might help. It worked for me. Also, I custom flashed a rom on my device because the stock was running terribly for me

yes, definitely try this too dicksonjoe, it worked for others besides him as well, and may clear it up before going through clearing your sms. Try what he said first, then what I said if that didn't work
I'm interested to hear if it helps you first to turn off the threading, easier solutions are better solutions!
