after having continued MMS issues i finally set my nexus one up correctly to send and receive MMS. then i updated to cyanogen's latest ROM and i was back at phase one. i set up my APN settings again and now all the pictures i receive are very blurry. i searched around a bit and tried a few different APN settings and the problem persists. i thought i saw a thread on here with a discussion about proper APN settings but i can't locate it. i even used the list provided on t-mobile.com but it didnt make a difference. Whenever i search i get zero results on XDA and google's support forum didnt yield any results.
if anyone could help or point me in the direction to fix these blurry MMS id appreciate it.
oh, and im currently using T-mobile US and on Cyanogen's latest beta rom.
just keeping this on the first page

Hi,
I have a Samsung Vibrant. As I'm in Australia, I was playing around trying to connect to another frequency via *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information. I set it to AUS and backed out (pretty sure that's all I did). Then I couldn't send any texts .... at all. Failed.
I switched back to Automatic frequency - no difference....
I have re-falshed the OS with Odin, both with the most recent 2.1 release and also with one that is supplied on the xda post "OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images" (I'm not allowed to post links) (I've still got this one installed right now). Both made absolutely no difference.
I deleted all user data... no difference.
Now I have a stock phone entirely, that will not send any text messages.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Andrew
I've noticed that SMSC is blank - I tried to set it to the right number: +61411990001, but it just returns 'update error'. So I tried 0411990001. It didn't 'do' anything, but didn't return an error. It disappeared when I backed out and came back in. it didn't fix the problem.
Is there a trick to updating the SMSC that I've missed? It seems likely to be the error??
there is also no information in 'Your Phone number', and I recall that the default way to access voicemail never worked because of 'no voicemail number on the sim card'...... does this all add up to my sim card not having the correct default information? Is there a way to fix this?
....help

Here are a few tips:
1 in mobile settings click apn and make sure there is a green circle on thee right of the name for your apn. If not just tap on the circle once and out should turn green.
2 in mobile settings, click automatic network discovery then try step 1 again
3 open mms app, press menu and go to settings. Make sure auto retrieve is checked.
Let me know if this works or not.

@crazy25000: Thanks heaps, that led me in the right direction to correct the texting issue. I had no apn at all - no options and had to add it manually. I'm not sure that it worked, but perhaps. I did get to the right settings menu to fix the smsc number though, which is great.
I still feel like my sim card is not quite right - there seems to be no default data for the carrier on the sim.
Immediate problem solved though. thanks again.
i have done the same thing while fiddling with my vibrant. sms wont send because the gateway # is blank . what i did was pop it in a friends iphone and type **5005*7672*61411990001#
(61411990001 is optus smsc # yours may be different)
then i put it back in my vibrant and viola!
altho i still cant send or recieve mms..

Glad to great it's slowly getting resolved. If you don't have an apn, click on automatic network discovery in mobile settings and it will automatically generate the correct apn for your carrier. Keep me posted because this it's relatively easy to resolve so don't stress

Hi, I have My HD2 running android and my MMS messages I'm receiving are being compressed to about 4-14kb! I keep reading about people with a similar problem but I can't find a direct answer. I read to change the APN setting but that didn't do anything. I also read to change what the phone thinks it is, to a nexus one or MyTouch, but I haven't found any instructions on doing so.
Thanks a lot
same problem here, but it wont even send pictures, it says generic network failure or error...
Go to your messenger under custom user agent just type in Nexus One and it should fix the blurryness
Hey all. I've had my Galaxy S4 for about a year now, and I've installed a plethora of custom roms. I'm currently running stock touchwiz on my device. I've noticed that my device can receive but not send MMS message. This has been an ongoing problem for several months and I haven't been able to figure it out. Before I switched to stock 4.4.2, I couldn't even get MMS messages, and today my co-worker sent me a successful MMS. But I still can't send them. I don't have an APN settings option in my settings, so I updated my profile etc. through my Sprint Zone app. I'm completely lost and have noooo idea how to get my MMS messages to send. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey bryguy9021, thanks for the reply. I tried opening voice dialer and speaking APN but received an error that says "I have no specific answers for that. Let me do a search for an answer to apn". I tried speaking "Open APN settings" and it simply took me to my connections menu. But there is still no option for APN.
I've been having this same issue for a LONG time now. I've read a lot of cures, I ended up messing with my APNs manually and got things REALLY cocked up. I heard that 8sms would work better than the default messaging app and have been using that, but I still can't send MMS messages. I've pretty much given up at this point.
I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere as I have tried to look.
I recently received my nexus 6p and prior to that i had a Note 4. I needed a nano sim card so I went to verizon and they gave me a nano sim and activated it in my nexus 6p (surprisingly for free). Ever since I made the switch i have received horrible MMS picture quality. Images are coming in anywhere from 16kb-52kb and are very blurry. I contacted Google who wasn't sure how or what the issue was. Then i contacted verizon who i figured were the real culprits (maybe confused because they don't support 6p and images coming in at lowest size possible?). My brother has the 5x and was able to directly swap his sim card from his galaxy s6 and does not have this issue at all. I have no idea where to turn
tl;dr - since switching to nexus 6p on verizon, i am receiving horrible quality picture messages
is anyone else even having this problem? and did you switch from a micro to nano usb that was activated by verizon?

Hi, did you check your APN settings? I don't have Verizon (T-Mobile) so I'm not sure what it needs to be set to but I'm sure you can Google the settings. If all fails, you can try to just reset the APN to see if that fixes your issue. Good luck.

I got this email from textra as a solution, havene't bee nable to try it yet
If MMS is not working then follow these instructions to locate the issue:
a) Firstly check in Textra > Settings > MMS Settings if you have a 'Manually Configure APN' setting, ensure it's NOT ticked. This means Textra was able to ascertain your APN settings correctly from your existing device settings, so 99% likely these are correct.
b) If you don't have this (Manually Configure APN) setting, locate the details as below and enter them into Textra.
* contact your carrier and request the correct MMS APN settings for your device; or
* check in Settings App > (More...) > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (MMS)
c) Some carriers only support a 'Send Size Limit' of 300KB (Textra > Settings > MMS Settings). So first set the size to 300KB to see if that helps when sending.
Once you have checked these details, please send yourself a test MMS.
If still an issue, please send us a screenshot of the Textra > Settings > MMS Settings page along with what happened when you sent yourself a test MMS as instructed above.
P.S One other thing, if you can send MMS perfectly but keep getting the 'Check APN...' notification when receiving an MMS then it's certainly another SMS app (even if not the default one!) interfering, uninstall it, clear the notification and test by sending yourself an MMS. Check in the stock app to ensure MMS > Auto-Retrieve is OFF
PPS Any ad blocking app or VPN app can interfere with MMS, for example Adaway, AdBlock Plus, NoRoot Firewall.
Thanks heaps.
We will sort it for you!

This thread has been a lifesaver for me! First of all my issue is slightly different but worth posting. Since root I have been unable to send MMS, SMS have been fine. They get stuck on sending and it was locking up my entire messaging app. This was the same using default and hangouts. I verified APN settings, set chrome to default browser app.... nothing worked.
The posted email about the ad blocker messing up messaging apps was what fixed this for me. I stopped Adblock Plus from running automatically on boot and my MMS instantly started working again. If you have any sort of ad blocking apps try disabling them to see if it helps.
So happy this fixed for me I was thinking I was going to have to do a clean flash.
I was having the same problem. I am running AdAway and it that is not blocking MMS. Adblock plus was blocking the same port MMS is using. I would think they will fix it any day so just keep checking for updates.
Having this same issue and it's awful. Anyone find a solution because above didn't work. Pictures from iPhone/Android looks like ****.
I have this problem but only on Textra. When textra is the default text app, the mms pics I receive are of much lower quality. I had used textra on my previous note 3 and it was fine. Ever since the switch to the 6p, the quality has gotten low. When I use google's messenger as the default app, the mms pics come in normally. Next, I go open textra, I see the normal looking mms that was received but Strangely, a duplicate is also present. And that duplicate picture has lower resolution. I sent Textra the screenshots of my problem, unfortunately I didn't get a solution. They said they would forward the issue to the dev team and they'd work on it.
There's been several updates on Textra since, but none have fixed the issue for me =( I love Textra, but right now I'm back to using google messenger cuz of this issue.
I have this issue as well. It's so annoying that I can't read anything that comes to me with text that isn't huge. I hope someone finds a solution. I am using Textra, maybe that's the culprit?
Hey there,
I have an Unlocked Verizon HTC 10 running Viper10 5.11
I've been loving the phone and Viper10, but I must have overlooked something or maybe there was a glitch somewhere because I can't send MMS messages, and I'm pretty sure I haven't been able to since the beginning of using the phone (I immediately installed Viper10 after buying, never used it stock).
So my problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with is that I can't send MMS messages at all. If it helps, I installed Viper10 without the stock Messenger app, and I use Handcent for all texting. I'm using the default settings in Handcent for sending MMS which auto-downscales images to be 1MB if they are larger. But it fails to send anything over MMS regardless of size (it even fails to send pics/audio <100kb).
In trying to research the problem on my own, I've read that the issue might be related to some, any, or none of the following: Preferred Network, Network Preference, wrong APN settings, or incorrect firmware version for my setup.
So I'm a bit unclear on how to proceed. I'm hoping I can fix this without reinstalling Viper10 but if it comes to that I will.
I've attached screenshots that might be helpful. And I'm happy to provide more if it helps. I'm sure someone here knows how to get me in the right direction. Thanks!
