Mail stuck on 'sending' - myTouch 3G, Magic General

While I've moved on to the nexus one, my wife still has her magic and is having some issues with mail. Often when she tried to send mail it'll get stuck as 'sending' and there doesn't seem to be anything that sorts it out. I googled this and the only solution I found is to clear the cache of mail & mail storage and let it reload, but you'd still lose that one email. However when I did this the problem seems to come back after some time. Any ideas?

Gmail sync is busted

My Gmail sync is busted. I am not getting incoming emails nor sending outgoing mails. When i scroll down my old emails, at the point where it starts to load more older ones, I instead get a message "No connection" and "retry" button. Retry is unsuccessful.
When i go into the data and synchronization setting and manually try to sync the gmail, I get a 1-frame-flash on the bottom which flashes me a message saying "Sync is not currently experiencing problems. Please try again later".
I then add a secondary gmail account and it syncs perfectly!! But my primary one doesn't work! I can't remove my primary account and re-add it unless I do a factory reset...which I don't want to do.
I've tried a reboot and it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?
I've got the same problem today. It seems that it's a server problem.
Server problem, even though a secondary account synced fine?
If I'm not the only one...then that makes me feel better.
I have this issue with WM
I use Google sync with WM device (My N1 should arrive tomorrow) and have had a similar (if not exact) problem. When I receive a mail from a specific sender ([email protected]) 90% of the cases it breaks the sync. I also sync that same account via IMAP on a secondary account in my WM device - just in case.. syncing every 30 minutes.. (that sync works fine) so I can use the IMAP account to delete the problematic mail.. and then, once deleted (or archived if I use the web interface) the problem is gone.
Try to find if there was a mail message you got that caused the problem. it is probably either the last synced mail or the one just after that...
Update:
The sync fixed itself this morning. It started syncing nonstop for a good hour (I'm on ATT Edge too) and I wasn't sure what it was doing, but the end result is I can now get my emails and notifications again.
On a separate note, I also noticed that now in my Gmail app, I can access every email dating back to 9/11/09. That's hundreds of emails. And If I scroll all the way to the bottom, there's no more loading earlier conversations, so 9/11/09 is the farthest back I can access my email without searching.
Does anyone know that there is such a limit to looking into past emails? Also, Anyone know why it doesn't just expose a 15-20 emails at a time like previously? Is it because once the email is exposed, it's cached somewhere and I don't need to load it anymore? If so, I'd love to know where I can delete this cache.
Some other members have experienced a similar issue with no sync. They fixed the broken sync by doing this(and this is how you can clear that cache as well)
Setting->Apps->Manage Apps-> gmail/gmail storage->clear data and cache(if you can, on my G1 I can just clear data, no cache shows)
You will probably just want to clear the gmail storage one, but doing both probably wouldn't be that big of a deal.

On older versions of Android, we could clear the cache on all Google apps... but this isn't available through the Manage Applications screen in 2.1. Not sure why Google took out this feature.. Previously if Gmail stopped synching, we would clear the cache and it would start working again. Hopefully this doesn't become an unfixable issue with 2.1.

They took it out? That sucks! Can you do the clear data at least? And I could swear I read someone with a Nexus One had this issue, and cleared the data or cache for gmail and fixed it... maybe it was in the G1 forum, starting to get confused following both at the same time.

Aha I found it! I may be an Android noob but I can still be useful.
Within Manage Apps, click hit Menu > Filter > All. This will expose all the native apps as well and you can clear your cache till the cows come home. I just found this a minute ago and cleared out my cache for my Gmail, default browser, and Youtube. That felt sooooo good, since I'm such a storage nazi.

Rad! I hadn't even thought to hit menu and see what I could get, lol... Good find.
Thank god! I was this "-" close to questioning my sanity! Thanks a lot uansari1! You will be getting a bill for my thearapy sessions to recover from this.

offline messages in yahoo IM

When I first started using this, I was always getting offline messages the next time I logged into yahoo. Now, for about the past 2 weeks, I no longer get any offline messages. I log in, there is nothing, and I never get the messages. I am running completely stock. About the only thing that changed it I started using the email features, with both a gmail and a yahoo account. I deleted those, and still not getting offline messages. The rest of IM seems to work fine, just miss anything that happens when I'm not logged in. Any ideas what could have made this stop happening, and how to fix this?
Doesn't anyone have any ideas?
no ideas. but I have the same issue. it was working up until Apr 29th/30th.

HTC Mail Bug (Phone Storage Low - Error message)

Have any of you heard of this?
forum.androidcentral.com/droid-incredible/12215-htc-mail-memory-leak-bug-phone-storage-getting-low.html?highlight=mail
androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-incredible/80143-htc-mail-memory-leak-bug-phone-storage-getting-low.html?highlight=phone+storage+low
I had to deal with this yesterday, reset my phone to factory defaults. No matter what I did, the Phone Storage Low error message would not go away. My HTC Mail app was telling me it was using over 100 MB in storage. No SMS or Email could be sent/received, no application run and just Force Close, and nothing could be downloaded. Eventually, the phone just kept rebooting when I tried to run programs. So, I found those threads, reset the phone, and all works again.
I can't post links, so you guys can peruse those two forums for what I'm talking about. You guys are the pros at developing, so I thought I'd ask someone at xda.
Same problem. Ended up doing a factory reset and restored everything BUT, for my Exch acct, I purchased the Moxier Mail app. It's superb. Great integration, calendaring, etc. Easy config. All the goodies.
I still use the HTC Mail app, however, for 1 POP3 and 1 IMAP accounts, but have lowered the per-message download size and have set download to just get the past 3 days (at the bottom you can always grab more if needed.) In my business I'm responding immediately to mail, then filing or deleting it, so 3 days works for me.
Ultimately though it seems that there's a monster memory leak (a la DW Horizon magnitude leak) in HTC Mail. Hopefully we'll see a patch, though I must say that a week into Moxier I don't think I'll be switching away from it for Exch. And oh, multiple Exch accts on the Sense UI would be nice at some point, too. Just sayin'
My expereince:
I was up to 30+ MB and getting concerned so I deleted EVERYTHING in HTC mail (including emptying the trash folder). So there is NO data for this app to do anything with except basic setup info. Still had 26 MB in the app. Deleted the mail account. Still have 26 MB. Can't get rid of it.
Stopped using it and have been using K9 (free) for about 10 days. Took a little getting used to, but I like it.
And just ran across this: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/google/is-your-droid-incredible-low-on-disk-space/2163?tag=nl.e539
Just got this message this morning. To my surprise found that same article on ZDNet. I have maybe 5 apps installed..But yes, im using HTC mail.
Guess its a memory leak of some sort. I use this phone for work and probably get 50-100 emails a day. I did however get the message to disappear by going to my TRASH folder in my HTC mail and deleting the 500 or so messages in there.
Had phone more than a month now and have not had this issue. I only use HTC mail for exchange and use K-9 for all my other pop, imap accounts except gmail which I use for that.
I was greatly disappointed in Moxier in that it didn't have some of the basic features found in HTC Mail, messed up their widgets by putting their name in the title of each one, etc... For the price, simply didn't think it was worth the money and I got the impression they had no desire to fix or improve it. they don't even have a decent trial version to really get a handle on what it could possibly do or work arounds for the apparent lack of basic features.
touchdown was a no-go the first day as it has serious display issues on the DI.
However, I've not had any problems with HTC mail yet... get 100-160 messages a day.

Yea, I have had my phone since 1st day of release. Never had a problem until this morning. So weird. Maybe I will try K-9 as my work email is setup POP.
After seeing a couple threads on this I'm wondering if the simple fix is to use a 3-day download setting (or less) in HTC mail.

That is what i used from day one with HTC Mail. So, dont think that theory will work. I actually factory reset the phone last night and am going to try HTC Mail again with all the same settings but not use the widget.
Yeah, ever since I had that first message and had to reset to factory defaults I've left my settings default (except for 100KB messages).
Mail size limit: 100kb
Download Feq: 15 minutes
Download Past mail: 3days
My HTC Mail is still only using around 4MB, and it's been two weeks since that episode.
I've had my phone since Apr 28th and never have had the issue. I only had it set to 10kb, as arrives and 3 days, and I only used it for Exchange mail. All my pop accounts are on K9 and gmail is on gmail.
Over the weekend, I found out about the working version of touchdown for the dinc and started playing with it on Friday. Went ahead and bought it Sunday after beating it up a bit. There are enough features in it that makes it worth the coin.
Glad I didn't run into this issue, but might have over time.

I got the message a month after getting the phone. I had it set to save all emails and it basically bricked it and had to do a hard reset. It was stuck looping between the Verizon boot and the Incredible screen. A week later it did it again and Verizon told me I had too many emails and changed it to only hold 3 days worth. Worked for a couple weeks and the message came back yet again...This time Verizon thought maybe I had a defective phone and sent me a new one. So far a week with ALL emails saved and no issues, but I'm not holding my breath.
3 days worth of emails is kinda pointless for me...
Memory issues
I started seeing memory issues as described here today, first it was affecting DL from Market, late in theday I could not open texts.
I do NOT use HTC mail. But I did notice that my Contacts Storage was over 95 meg big. Probably a lil too big. Probably thumbnail/facebook integration? Anyhow I reformated phone storage, and then cleared data on contacts, now it is down to 2 meg. I re-DL contacts from Verizon sync
Not sure what this means, I love the Incredible, but can't stand bugginess... And Droid 2 comes out today...
Anyone else seen this behavior that was NOT part of the mail program?
So far I haven't seen this. (knock on wood) Then again I don't use HTC Mail either. I like to keep things slimmed down since I had that Moto Q with the shrinking memory. Yeah! The slimmer things got with that the smaller my storage got. Hopefully this will be fixed before I ever see the problem.

unable to send email(hotmail or live email account)

I have a hotmail and live email account. Both have been working great since June. Lately I've been getting "unable to send email" error. I try to refresh and or delete my live account and add the live email back and this error comes back. Has anyone else had this error and if so, how do you fix it?
I'm attempting to remove my hotmail and live account, rebooting phone and going to see what happens....
any and all suggestions are appreciated.
I'm having the same issue. I checked the Sprint forums on sprints website and people are reporting it there as well. No solutions yet, but please post if you find a solution.
thanks for the heads up, still have the same problem and so are others.... found the sprint forum: http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/208977#208977
Stopped having this problem and it's back today.... anyone else?
Clear app data
I had this issue lately, within the past week with gmail actually. I just fixed it last night. what i did, go to Settings > applications > "your mail client" (gmail, yahoo whatever) > clear data/clear storage data.
your accounts will still be there and you will have to resync but your issue should be fixed. give this a try, it worked for me.

[Q] Anyone having trouble with getting emails?

The past 2 days or so I haven't been getting emails through my phone. I'm not really sure what's going on. I haven't changed any settings (I think). I think the gmail app updated recently though.. I have background info on (of course) so ... not sure. Anyone else?
My wife had similar issues where the email wouldn't sync. She'd either never receive notification on her phone, or she would delete mail on the phone and it would still appear on the PC.
Try going to Settings->Applications->All Applications and clear your Gmail data entirely. You will have to re-login to it, but that fixed her problem quickly.
