OK here goes. First off Im no developer but thi seems to be where this should be posted. Now I know its hard to believe what im about to say but as soon as the thing gets here 2nite im posting pics and video. Anyway. My buddy stopped by this morning and had a 16g iPhone , pretty sure it was 16. At first Ithought he had bought an ipod but when he told me he paid almost 750$ for it and it was a phone I knew he just waisted hs money seeing as we have ONLY Alltel in our area. But he blew my mind. He called my phone from it. I was amazed. This is where it gets crazy. I checked it out and its insane!
When you power it on it goes to a back screen with "ver1" & "ver2" written in white. If you tap ver1 it goes black 4 about 13 seconds and then pops up a silver apple style wallpaper with a "loading" bar in red across the screen. After around 11 seconds the iPhone home screen kind of fades in the screen. My first thought was FAKE!!! But Ive messed with a real iPhone enough to know this was THE one and only iPhone. I stared at it for almost 2 hours just checking out every single detail there was. There are a couple things in question here:
iTunes was nowhere to be found period. NO WHERE! Why, dont ask me!
Also there were a couple of settings that were useless to Alltel.
Probaly a couple other things but nothing so significant for a non experienced tech to notice. But every app i tried, along with the internet and phone worked without a single glitch! I was so into it
I forgot about tha "ver2" Choice till he reminded me. Needless to say iwent thru every nook and cranny, run and tested every app & Feature and function from internet to axcess apps, from the dialer to the home plug functions. And every single thing worked perfect! NOT ONE lockup, or connection loss. T
he only thing I didnt check was bluetooth or internet sharing. He explained to me about getting alltel to hook it up. he called them 7 times. The first 6 refused to do it on his pre existing account. Finally the last guy tried it and it worked. He tried to do the *228 programming /activation call twice thru the iphone section and it didnt work for some reason. But on first attempt thru htc dialer it started workin. I knew it had 2 be a fake. but even if it was the performance w is twice that of my touch. But when I told him that he actually called apple tech support and this thing really did start out as and is still partially a true Apple iPhone. Also the thing come with the original box and acceories. It came with I believe 6 manuals. 2 for a touch one sorta iphone quick guide a custom instruction book with around 20 pages and I cant remember the other. inside the custom one it lists two serial #'s.. The one on the phone(original ) & one listed as mobile serial/hex number(the one he gave alltel.
He got the thing 3 days ago while on vacation at a small pc store just outside panama city florida i think he said. The guy told him its the only one he made, and that it will work 4 and gsm or cdma service but we have absolutely no gsm service around here so we cant check that. But like i said im no tech. no where close. hes not either. so i dont know how this is even remotely possible! I've set & played with it for at least 6 hours today and still dont believe it anymore than i believe santa will bring me a wm7 upgrade for xmas but this thing is real. and its the most amazing ppc ive ever seen. its the best of both worlds. it not went unused for more than 5 min in three days and it locked up on the htc stuff 1 time. by the way it doesnt have the 3d cube either. but som freeware has already been downloaded and works so im guessing everthing will.
N e way. Hes willing to work something out and send it to an extremely talented and hopefully trustworthy tech (U.S. ONLY) 2 see if they could figure this thing out and maybe make it possible for others. I want one bad!

Just waitin on dude 2 get off work. Dont ask for the stores name unless your flat out interested in being the one 2 tackle this thing. well i read it. its about an iphone that seems to run osx AND windows mobile through 2 separate paths without ANY problems. well im not believing it, since there isnt even a virtualizer 4 osx out there...and reprogramming from scratch is quite impossible. he promised us pictures...well, i hope for a video that shows us the functions (the menu for ver1 and ver2 for example)
I just read all of that and the long and short of it is his mate has brought an iphone that has a bootloader at startup where version one brings up the apple OS and selecting version 2 brings up WM.
After checking through all of the apps OP claims it appears to be all genuine and his mate is interested in sending off the phone to a US techie to rip it apart and find out how this was all done

I couldn't read it all the way through as I'm not paid by xda devs yet.
I think it's more likely to be the iphoney that runs on windows ce. Looks like an iphone but isn't.

How about the touch flow? I cant imagine WM6 on an iPhone with the same amount of touch functinality. You didnt mention that.

My problem with this is that as far as I know, there is no WM device with the same screen/screen driver set, and the iPhone "OS X" uses a different kind of driver system and so it's unlikely to be a true iPhone...

pretty sure it is the chinese ripoff of the iPhone, as far as I can see, the touchscreen is big, true, but doesnt look as sensitive as the iPhone would be...it also looks like someone decided to redesign a phone with WM6, and steal some apps for xda and put it on the phone

Well if you have read any of my previous post you would know that I dropped my phone and busted the screen on it. Afterwards it still worked fine so I continued to use it. Well a Few days ago the screen went black. The backlight still works but nothing showing up. After some reading I see some people are saying its the ribbon for the screen. At first I could remove my battery a couple times and it would work, but now nothing. My brothers screen works on his g1 but is stuck at the recovery tool and wont go any futher. Trying to decide if I wanna exchange his screen and cable over to mine or just dump em both off at ebay and get something else. If I do, it looks like it will have to be a iPhone since im on AT&T and I see how important warranty is now. I have tooken my brothers apart and I can tell you I do not like the design of the phones and how they were built but I do love my G1 guess its time to part ways.
Sad to see you go man, You should get another HTC phone and stay on the site! They're much more fun to play around with etc IMHO, or get a really cheap phone and wait till a new android phone comes out.
I like the iPhone (even though i've only used it a few times), but Windows Mobile/Android have more in the way of functionality, apps, and i've been an avid HTC user since I bought my first one!
If you dont like your $400 laggy and choppy phone then stop whining about it and throw it away, i have had 4 of them and just smashed my last one against the wall cause im so fed up with these stupid ass phones, they suck balls!!!! Scrolling is choppy as **** and in order to text when you have messages in your inbox you have to type like 1 letter per 15seconds and screens would always jump back in forth everyonce in a while, mine have never froze thank god or elase it would have been smashed long ago, HTC needs to learn how to make their **** run smooth and effecient before they release this ****. So later fellas and good luck with these junk phones, as for me im going to ATT or Verizon on the 24th to get the new Iphone, a phone that actually will work like it should.

I feel ur pain, but yes htc need to step it up and that is where we come into play but i damn sure wouldnt go from a high tech device to a fruit....

Verizon will not be getting the iPhone on the 24th so it looks lik your getting AT&T but fare well we didn't need you hear anyways.
I have a question.
If he's immature for smashing his HD2 because he didn't know how to use it, am I immature for throwing my iPhone 2G against a wall, even though I knew how to use it? I somehow get the feeling that this crowd would understand if it were an iPhone. =D
More on topic, I don't know how you had the problems you did, even the stock ROM is fine. This thing is blazing fast, and I haven't had a real problem with it yet.
Wow. Well its obvious you didnt really try to fix anything. All the problems you described have solutions. All I did was put a cooked rom on my hd2 and everything has been fine for months now. You make it seem like AT&T is an upcoming. Enjoy paying the ridiculous data charges now that they have decided to end the unlimited data. And smashing the phone? You couldve sold it. Just my 2 cents.

I have had my hd2 for almost two weeks and have had none of the problems this person describes. Bsb tweaks and Cookies home tab are all I have done to it and it runs like a top. So have fun with your iphone...
ok now i c what an average person wants...um a gyroscope n a new app called face time lol....so here is the deal ppl who buy a SMARTphone expects it to do everything exactly the way they want it to ....one key note SMARTPHONE this means its not a regular phone its for ppl who 1) have brain power 2) use that power n understand there surroundings 3)accept its boundaries 4)definitely dont complain when u bought a phone that has the same aesthetics from its first generation but with improved specs aka iphone 4

a week ago, I dropped my hd2 on concrete, from about 4 feet up, Shattered the screen all over....didnt really care much, since I hated the phone (Even with other Roms...still freezed up on me constantly...dialed random numbers when the headphones were in...etc..) but the phone still worked...so being bored, I put the Androids on it...WOW is all I have to say ! Everything is perfect exept GPS and battery Life....but I can give those up...
So I figured im gonna use my mobile insurance to replace this hd2 and load up Android on the new one....
1) I got this phone in May 2010, has anything changed since then...meaning can I still flash HSPL ? or did they stop that with new software ? Can I still load up the Androidzzzz ?
2) Or should I just not mess with a good thing, and pay to have the screen replaced on this one ?

Its easier than ever to put on andrroid. Many android rom s you don't need hspl just put folder onto SD card and run. Get the new hd2 you'll be glad you did. Replacing a digitizer is harder than it looks

I must be the only person who doesn't love this phone, its not that I dont like it, its just that there seems to be a lot of issues.
I got mine on Saturday, it was a Vodafone UK upgrade, and coming to this from the orginal Desire has been a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
The one thing I noticed as soonas I took it out of the box was the seemingly sharp edges around the screen area, the phone itself is sluggish and the screen can be very non-responsive, I cant for the love of all thats almighty get the HTCSense to work - in fact cant even create an account, cant download Locations, the GPS wont work because it says it cant find the satellites even when I'm outside, and the list just goes on.
I loved my original Desire and chose it over the iPhone 4 and thought this would be the next step up buy boy was I wrong. Chances are Ive just got a bad one, but its hasnt half dented my confidence in what I originally thought was a great brand.
As I said, I had the phone as an Vodafone upgrade through Phones4U in the UK. Are they likely to give me a new phone or will they make me have this one repaired? To be honest, I dont want it repaired I just want a new one.
Suggestions please
It sounds like you got a bad one. You could try a factory reset and see if that speeds it back up to normal. If not I would suggest they change it for you. There are plenty of YouTube videos showing the normal (non-sluggish) speed. If your one doesn't match - ask them why it is so slow.
My 2 cents.
I would suggest the same as Grant Barker, sounds like you've got some kind of issuse!
Factory reset is always an good idea! ;-)

IANAL but distance selling reg's should cover this, you are entitled to reject the phone within seven days, personally I would speak with Phones4U as i have found them very helpfull in the past if no joy there try speaking to vodafone aswell.
But it does sound like you've recieved a lemon, even if I did find SENSE slowed the phone down over vanilla android.
1st thing I tried was a factory reset and to be honest, I think its made a blind bit of difference.

Dont know what phone you got but got mine from orange Uk in november and guess what no regrets was going to buy iphone but no way Android + HTC = Pure domination over iphone

Second day I just ask to cancel my order for poor quality of finish AL-housing and plastic sim cover was just realy beadly made!!!

Sense is really nice, I think.
With other Nosense Rom's i took less pleasure to use my phone.
In addition, drivers included in HTC sense, allow the phone to be much less energy.
Otherwise, you must hack the kernel.

Dude u got some bad luck becuase my self i have no issues ya the battery cover is plastic so are many other phones just be carefull anyways good luck to u
see i used to hate HTC with a passion since the touch days there quality sucked with so many issues and out of no where look at them now all i can say is this handset just kills my iphone 4 in so many ways its like HTC its like HTC is taking a **** on apple now if only HTC can have internal memory liek apple then we are good to go

Me tooo Welome to the club!!
Got my desire hd as a tmobile upgrade and loved every second.with it expect for the usb charging.
Just make sure a factory reset is done if it running slow
