HD2 keeps hard resetting on its own - HD2 General

so yeah... my phone keeps freezing with no screen output and lit buttons and then hard resetting on its own. done it twice already and I lost everything.
any ideas anyone?

have you flashed custom roms?
if yes, read the mtty section in ROM, thats my guess, otherwise i dont know

Some backgroumd info? ROM version? Flashed custom ones? Weird programs installed?

I've not touched the ROMS as I wouldnt know where to start. So it's in the out of the box state.
The first time it reset, all i had installed were things like Duttys Task Manager, PHLM reg editor, 4 hotfixes from HTC site. i didnt install the major upgrade (190MB) that upgrades the radio.
The second time it reset, all i had installed were Duttys TM and the 4 hotfixes. I'd not got round to fiddling with it any further.

My Camera will not work anymore??

everything was fine, no problems with the phone at all, than I installed Duttys 4.1 rom and ever since the camera doesnt work. I got the camera to work once since then by un-ticking the camera tab from the Touch flow, soft resetting, then ticking the tab again but now thats not even working. I have installed 2 diferent roms since then and it still doesnt work. also the photo album doesnt work from that tab anymore but does in the program list where as the camera doesnt work at all.
Any help would be great
Have the same problem myself and have yet to find an answer
I found a guy that used advanced config to change one of the camera settings but I tried it and it didnt work
When you flashed the ROM, did you put the phone into boot loader manually, or did the installation software do it?
the installation software did it

I tried that myself and it worked for a while (a couple days) then the camera stopped working again. That trick has not worked since that first time. I have changed roms a couple of times and still nothing.

Same here. Also I did accidentally install a rom with the wrong spl and had to hard spl after installing the rom. I think I went from 1.14 to 1.56 or something like that. I had a green tint to the screen until I did the hard spl. I have installed many roms since then and have not had a problem. I did not have a camera issue before this but the camera did work for quite a while after the spl issue. Hopefully this makes sense what I am saying.
so you are saying your camera was fixed after you "re- hard SPL'd" your phone?

No, I have an unlocked telstra phone and I had flashed my rom a couple times without needing to hard SPL my phone and never had a problem with flashing roms or the camera. It was only after I flashed to a rom that needed the phone to be Hard SPL'd and I didn't properly Hard SPL my phone before flashing the rom. I got the wierd "green tint" to my screen and realized that i had incorrectly Hard SPL'd. I quickly realized my mistake and then did it correctly and then the newer rom worked fine. It was a couple weeks later that the camera stopped working. I can't remember if I was on the same rom or not from when I Hard SpL'd my phone.
Sorry if this is hard to follow.
My thought is, did my upgrade without properly Hard SPL'ing my phone damage the camera or is it something else. Again, I have since properly Hard SPL'd my phone and flashed many roms since without a problem except the non-working camera.
well I don't know but I hard SPL'd my phone the day I got it with the 1.56 HSPL and I have used may roms on this phone. The rom I installed when this happended was duttys WM6.1 rom

I was trying to revert to an older Hard SPL 1.14 and install an older rom to see if that did the trick. Anyway, in my haste I screwed up and installed the older Hard SPL 1.14 and forgot to add in the older Rom so I ended up with the green screen of death. I couldn't get it to connect via activesync and put it in bootloader mode and re-Hard SPL'd it to 1.56 and the green screen was gone. I was about to go back to the Hard SPL 1.14 with one of Duty's older pre 1.56 Roms but thought I would check on the camera again one last time.
Now the camera works. Again, this is not the first time I have gotten the camera to work and I have no idea how long it is going to last but it is working and I am not going to mess with it anymore right now. I will leave the Hard SPL 1.56 and Miri's WM6.5 Rom that I have on the phone alone and see how it goes.
I know this is not a complete answer and I don't know if just re-Hard SPL'ng will work but it is worth a shot. Again, I downgraded first 1.14, screwed up the phone the went back to 1.56 and the camera started working again. At least I know that it is probably not a hardware issue as I have no where to send it back to for repair. All is well in Wisconsin for the time being.
Well two things:
1st can you just tell me exactly what you did, step by step. If I understand you correctly, I have already tried this but there may be a step or 2 that I missed. please include the roms you went from and two also
2nd, just called HTC and they said my the #'s my phone still has some warranty left and they will honor it in the states (I will reflash to tesla rom and the stock SPL before I send it)
Thank you for keeping me up to date on what you have done to get yours working. If your camera fails again, just call the # on the US HTC customer service site.

hello there ,
1.14 radio is the problem ,
try to flash new one which is 1.16 in same form
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529031
or try to get into 6.1 and then Hard Rest with out Upgrade to dutty ,
seems problem in driver...
best regards
I havent had 1.14 on my phone since the day after I got it...
I am not very good at step by step instructions but you have obviously done a lot of flashing already, I will keep it short. Again, this started out as a botched attempt to downgrade my Rom to an older WM 6.1 Rom using the old 1.14 Hard SPL. You might not want to do this as it will temporarily screw up your phone. If you do, here are the steps I took. Really not too involved. Please read all steps first.
1. I synced my phone and downloaded the older 1.14 Hard SPL and flashed it.
link
2. That screwed up my phone "Aweful Greenscreen effect" and was not able use activesync anymore for flashing. I then put the phone into bootloader mode by powering off the phone. Hold in top power button until it asks if you want to power down. Yes. Then when you power up hold the volume down key and the power button at the same time. Make sure your USB cable it still plugged in. Your phone should now be in bootloader mode.
3. I downloaded the most current Hard SPL 1.56 and ran the HSPL Wrapper Blackstone 156OliNex
4. After that the Green Screen problem was gone and when I checked my camera it worked. I took a couple of photos and no problem. I opened it first with the WM Camera Program button then with the Manilla tab. When I used the Manilla tab it had to map the camera/videocamera button as we as find the photo album. After that it has showed up in Manilla normally every time I go back to it. Again, we will see how long this takes.
Thanks for the info on possibly being able to return the device for warranty reasons to HTC.
Hopefully this helps and my links work.
if you don't mind me asking, what dutty rom did you install because this all started for me when I insalled duttys 4.1 WM6.1 rom
Update
When I said I took the phone all the way back to stock, it wasnt 100% true. I loaded a stock HTC rom not a telstra rom.
with that being said, today I got the RMA # from HTC to have the phone repaired so I downloaded the newest updated Telstra Rom and loaded it onto the phone.By the way, My phone did not have the newest Telstra rom on it ever! When the phone was done, I started to prepair to load the newest stock SPL to go along with the rom when I notice the camera works..... What the hell?!?! I try loading a custom rom on it (miris 6.5 rom), camera still works! Hard reset the phone, camera still works. I don't know what this means but my phone is back on line with all features!
Thanks for everyones help and input
Keep your eye on it. It is almost like it slowly looses the connection to the camera and then has a hard time remaking the connection once it is lost. Then you have to do something drastic to get it back. I wouldn't mind so much if it only happened every three or four months but so far I have not been able to keep the camera going past two weeks without loosing it again. Keep me posted if yours goes out again.
Well that didn't take long. Camera is dead again. Going back to WM 6.1 and SPL 1.14 to see if that makes a difference. "unable to initialize" then camera and album disappears from TF3D.
What I ended up doing ( and I did it more then once cuz I tried to load a wm6.5 rom on it) was as fallows
starting with many different wm 6.5 roms, radio: 1.13.25.24 and HSPL 1.56
step 1: I flashed the newest telstra rom (Telstra_WWE_1.59.841.6_Radio_52.64.25.34_1.14.25.24)+
step 2: hard reset
step 3: flashed this custom 6.1 rom (gave up on trying to find a 6.5 rom that worked), L26 ultimate V3.55
step 4: hard reset
step 5: synced to my PC
step 6: loaded all my cabs (soft resetting after every 2 or 3)
Now Miris 6.5 V26 came close to working but when I would sync via PC or Microsoft My Phone it the camera bug would come back.
I am at about 18 hours without the bug. I have soft reset, changed the battery, synced the phone to my PC, called, received calls and text so far...

Polaris constantly hard resets - wm 6.5 only

I seem to be having a problem with all of the WM6.5 Polaris ROMs. Hoping someone can help!
I first noticed the issue with Gullum's Rom, though it is still present with Belial's and Pcarvalho's
Basically soft-reset doesn't work. It will result in a hard-reset almost always. It doesn't matter if i use the soft reset pinhole or whether i use a program on the Polaris to soft-reset the device; the result is always the same - a hard reset.
In all circumstances I flashed the rom, waited until the screen alignment, hard reset (on purpose), then configured the phone.
Originally I thought the issue was because of pimbackup getting stuck sometimes and me resetting during that but it seems that even if I do not use PIM backup the phone will still hard reset it self.
The only thing that I can see being common is that the roms are all WM6.5 and all build 23016. When I downgrade to 3LIT3III (WM6.1 rom) the problem seems to go away - though I would prefer the 6.5 roms.
My phone has been flashed lots of times over the past 18 months and maybe something weird has happened. My next steps are to reflash the latest official HTC ROM in the hopes that fixes any weird things my phone might have before I try again.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate them!
Thanks,
Dom

Exactly the same for me. Have tested the "[10 Aug] WM23016_MEGAPACK_ByBelial_BETA, "[Aug 14] PDAVIET ROM WM6.5 Manila 2D (Core 21840) by TranMinhMan" and"pcarvalho eXtreme ROM 3.19 WM6.5 OS 5.2.23009" and all of them was very unstable with 3 to 5 HR pr day.
Then flash to 3LIT3III (WM6.1 rom) and it vent solid as a rock.
I'l test flashing back to original before installing 6.5 again. Thanks for the tip.
I've noticed the same problem too and this tip fixed it (so far). My sequence of flashing is slightly different but the usual suspects were all there. My question is, is it always better to flash original HTC ROM first before flashing a new cooked ROM? Or will it make no difference?

its always better as you will flash a rom to a standard rom...every device has/had an original rom to start with...so all settings are...reset
For sure
After a couple of days usage now the phone has not hard reset itself at all - which is awesome - as is your ROM (I'm using the non-3D 23106 build of yours and haven't noticed any issues that a 'soft' reset doesn't resolve )

Hard Reset OR Flash to 1.48.. "Noobie" Conundrum!!

Hi folks,
Maybe its the same thing... but I'm not sure.
I have been having serious difficulty with some apps refusal to load and/or connect to the internet, namely Marketplace, Peep, The Channer, Speeedreader and various other 3rd party applications. I have soft reset a number of times to no avail, I even uninstalled and reinstalled all the apps (except Peep) and now Marketplace won't even open when I click on it! Very frustrating in what is turning out to be an otherwise pleasant phone experience! Opera and my Email connect to HSDPA and various wifi without issue, but the above apps don't see either wifi or my network connection at all, ever.
Its like some file got wiped out in the registry or something.
Here is the link to those woes of mine in another post (with evdincial videos): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589765&highlight=weareborg
I was going to take the plunge and do my first hard reset today until I heard that 1.48 ROM was out.
My question is, (because I think that some vital connection registry setting or something I screwed up big time with when using Total Commander) is it wiser to do a hard reset with existing firmware in the hopes my connection issues will be resolved OR should I flash to 1.48 directly??
Essentially, is flashing the same as hard resetting or will the overwriting of the files in the flashing process simply leave out what it can't see and I'm back to square one?
I hope you can understand my ramblings and would appreciate any advice!
Thanks in advance!
In my humble opinion if you have to HR anyway, you may as well move up to the latest ROM.
Good fault finding would say go with the HR and see if you can recreate the problem, but why not kill two birds...
Good luck
Thanks Gustopher, so flashing and HR are essentially the same? All the files Connection files are there in the new ROM? I'm not sure how much a new ROM "borrows" from an old ROM if you get me..
Thanks again.
wab.
Flashing a new ROM effectively performs a hard reset anyway. I've not heard of the 1.48 ROMs being worse in any way so if you're hard resetting anyway, you might as well update the ROM while you're at it.
Flashing the ROM is NOT the same as hardresetting.
If you flash a ROM, you will install a "new operating system" and everything will be wiped clean (as if it were hard resetted too)
A hard reset re-installs the CURRENT "operating system" and also wipes your device.
So... if you need to hard reset anyway, and a new ROM is out, just flash the new ROM.
The connection files (to setup GPRS automatically etc) are in the new ROM. It will work.
Thanks a lot all for your opinions!
Okay... I'm goin' in!
Fingees crossed!

HTC Sense problems

Hi, I've been having some issues with HTC Sense on the Leo i bought a couple of weeks ago, Although this was fine at first this is now crashing every-time i try and use the quick link tabs. Occasionally this fails to restart altogether and displays; cannot re-start HTC Sense, click here to continue. The only way to re-start Sense at this point is a soft reset. The handset is suffering from regular freezing issues and black screen problems.
I was using the Axlor 6.1 ROM with the radio Radio 2.07.50.27_2. I tried a hard re-set but the problem persisted. I've flashing the Artemis 4.0 ROM and flashing to a different radio 2.08.50.08 however the problem persists with the new ROMS and radio I've tried. I've flashed back to Axlor at the moment. I've done some searches without any definitive answer. Anyone any ideas why this might be happening?
If you have flashed several different roms and are getting instability go have a read of the mtty thread
Will have a look at the MTTY, thanks for the advice.
Edit, handset has completely packed in, it boots to the home screen and then freezes. A bit worrying.

Hard reset

Can anyone tell me if this will wipe any updates etc that have been done to the phone by the phone company?
my phone forgot the lock code so i had to do a hard reset, since then the phone has been freezing quite often, mainly when sending/recieving texts if you change the orientation while typing.
at the moment its either wait 2 minutes for it to sort itself out or just restart sense which is now becoming annoying.
any help appreciated
it also wont play the h.264 recordings i have made on the phone, i just get a black screen that says loading :/
well i have figured out it is definately related to the orientaion of the phone, i cannot turn the phone on its side when sending texts or using the web browsers or it will just lock up or slow to a crawl.
p.s. somone just please reply so i know i aint getting ignored cos my posts seem to be lol
Hmmmm...
Is the issue only occuring since you performed the hard reset and not before?
Have you tried reinstalling any updates you had before the reset?
Do you have a lot of msg's in your inbox?
updates are usually stored in root of phone
have you installed any new cabs or roms ??
if you've not installed anything new another hard reset may be in order just to re-syncronize phone
only help I can give at mo

Yeah it will. it is like doing a windows system restore using the restore discs that came with your pc. Personally i would look at updating to a newer rom if you haven't already got a 1.66 or 1.72 based stock rom. You could always look at a custom rom. I use energy 23569 and i haven't had any problems with it. Also the energy roms include a newer version of sense that is included with the new TMOUS roms and it appears to be less buggy
thanks for the replies guys,
it was fine before the reset but it did slow a little in landscape mode but nothing anywhere near what its like now, key presses had a slight delay and now they are like a 5 second delay....portrait mode is perfect.
i always delete messages so my inbox is empty, i never applied any updates prior to the reset, i assumed virgin did it all for me.
i have only installed a few tweaks but the main change is bsb tweaks, i'm now using the latest version where as i was using the prior version before the hard reset but this has only started happening about a week after i installed it.
rom version is 1.66.351.1 (76641) WWE
rom date 03/03/10
manilla version 2.5.19211619.0
OS version 5.2.21869
radio version 2.07.51.22_2
i want to use a custom rom or atleast update to newer one but how will i put it back to the stock rom? the phone has some locked items from virgin installed, they will know if those are not there.
No they won't. Just say you removed them by hand because they were of no purpose to you.
If you install a custom rom on your unbranded, unlocked (the phone virgin supplied you is exactly the same as what you would pay for standalone except for the software extras) Leo it will be easy to install a stock rom. just flash it and then remove HSPL3 in favour of the stock spl (1.42 i think).
Your manilla/sense version is actually very old. There are newer versions about (2015 and 2016) that have been developed for the TMOUS devices but as HTC neglect the UK we haven;t been given the officially yet but most of the new custom roms include them.
If you do stay stock try installing LeoCPUSpeed V4 and chainfire's 3D Driver Patch V2. They will improve the speed of the phone in general and you may find the typing lag goes away completely
