Im trying to mount my SD card on my computer and its not working.. the phone just loops back to "checking sd card for errors"
Whats going on?
Win 7 X64, stock N1
I had this same issue, you have enable debugging and then the problem was all fixed. go to Setting -> Applications -> Development and put a check mark next to USB debugging.
If you don't have ADB drivers installed, windows is going to try to install them. It should give you a link to where they are located or you just cancel if you don't use ADB. You don't need it unless you use ADB.
Then you should be able to mount with not problem.
thanks, that works!

I hate to start a "OMG ITS NOT WORKING" Thread. But im just plain stuck.
Im trying to get to my sd card on my computer, to switch to my 4gb and to get the update.zip on it so i can root. But no matter what i do, it wont mount. My computer complains that the "USB Device not recognized" and loads a bogus driver. Ive been trying to get it figured out but nothing so far.
Anyone else have this problem? Any one know how to fix it?
hope this helps

No help :O( i dont get whats wrong.
what happens when you plug in the usb cord? Are any external drives shown on your computers file/drive viewer (my computer, etc)? If so can you open those drives, if not what does it say?
the way it should work is.
-DL the drivers here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7218057
-install the drivers on your PC
-hookup phone to PC via the provided usb cable
-on the phone drop down the notification bar and MOUNT the SD card.
-open My Computer or other file viewer
-see two external drives one the internal with about 13GB of total space and one the SD card with 2GB of total space
-add remove files from cards
I did all that. When i plug it in, my computer says "the usb device is not recognized" and proceeds to load a bogus driver. Ive installed the debugging driver, nothing. nothing shows up in my computer for the sd card, OR the phones own flash memory.
I have 3 separate android phones, never had this problem before.
try connecting the phone to your pc again. Make sure that on your phone, that youre using the mass-storage option. Next look at the top of your phone, and pull down the header bar. and click on the "usb connected" option or whatever it says, and then choose "mount" when it pops up.
That's how your actually turn on the mass-storage. dont know why its like this, thought it would be automatically done after chosing the mass-storage option.
I am having the same issue. Installed drivers but can't access the drives.
It does automatically set it self for mass storage, but the computer for some reason isnt seeing it. im pretty sure its a driver issue. or the usb port on the phone maybe bad... that would be annoying.
Hey all,
I have downloaded the Windows 7 64 bit drivers for my Fascinate. Installed them...but when i go to mount my SD card I can see it in Windows Explorer but it says CD drive F: Verizon Mobile. I cannot see anything on my SD card at all. How can I get this mounted. I am rooted and I have USB debugging on. Any other ideas on how to get this to work.
Pull down the notification bar at the top of the phone. Press mount sd card. Your problem mabe deeper than this but I just thought best to start simple. If u still can't get it we need more info like is it DI01,DJ05, or DL09

No, I cannot mount that way. I am on dl09. Very frustrating.

I had the same issue. I flashed Adrynalyne's latest voodoo kernel 01/21 low voltage and it seemed fixed it for me. I'm running DL09 supah clean 04 also.
See here and go to Test 4 this maybe your issue.

This is the official response from Samsung:
"There is no SD card mount issue on Windows OS. After user connects USB cable, Windows OS will recognize the device as CD-Rom, and the ToolLauncher_Bootstrap.exe will be running by autorun function. (WinXP only, Win 7 user should run ToolLauncher_Bootstrap.exe by himself ). At this point either user can ignore the installation of TL and use mass storage directly, or wait 30 secs timeout and the device will be changed to mass storage.
Another option is that user can change the settings -> USB setting to 'Ask on connection' from mass storage(default). It will allow user to go to mass storage directly by selecting mass storage.
But The mass storage is not working on MAC OS from previous version, and We have a fix for that in FROYO release."
Hope this helps.
I have the same issue when using certain kernels not sure if it is in the kernel or not. the only way i am able to mount the sd or use pda net is to plug the phone into the comp and reboot the phone after the phone reboots the comp recognizes it. I know this is not a fix but it does work everytime and the phone is recognized until the next time i reboot my phone without it being plugged into comp. This is a temp fix until you can find a better fix.
I don't know what happened, but I can no longer mount the SD card via USB. I've spent half the afternoon trying to fix the drivers, and I end up in the exact same place I was before.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and CyanogenMod 6 RC2 on the phone. I have ADB set up and, to my knowledge, the drivers for it are working. ADB devices recognized my phone.
When I try to mount the SD card, the phone shows "USB storage in use," but it doesn't show up on my computer. Normally I get a little popup asking if I want to open the folder to view files. In Device Manager, it shows a little warning on USB Mass Storage Device which I believe is the phone. If I right-click and go to Properties, is says "This device cannot start. (Code10)" (see first thumbnail).
Here's the weird part: If I boot into recovery and select to mount the storage card, it will mount (see second thumbnail).
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
Did you try it with a different card? Or this card in card reader? You have to rule out simple things first, like weird card corruption.
I've tried a different card. No difference.
I uninstalled all the drivers and restarted my computer. When I plugged the phone in, I got the following message. Something called MTP did not install successfully. Anyone know what to do about this?
Well, after numerous cycles of uninstalling and attempting to reinstall the drivers, I still had no idea what the problem was. I uninstalled all the drivers and ran a utility on my PC to clean and fix problems in the registry. I rebooted it and then plugged the phone in. It installed the drivers and now both ADB and USB storage work.
Strange thing is, I don't see an entry for Android ADB Interface in the device manager any more. I see Android USB Drivers and the USB Mass Storage though, so I guess that's all it needs.
Hey all,
So I just ran ClockworkMod (2.5.13) and wiped my Vibrant in preparation for the new Bionix. I have found that on my phone I had to wipe sdcard too or it wouldn't wipe fully. The problem: ClockworkMod won't let me mount USB storage or mount sdext so I can't figure out how to get the new ROM on the phone. Voodoo is also enabled and I can't seem to disable it without a working ROM on the phone.
When I plug the phone into my PC the "H" and "I" drives automatically pop up but are inaccessible. Mounting USB storage in ClockWorkMod appears to do nothing.
Any ideas? Thanks!
ohhhhhhhhh
I had the same problem last night but i thought my PC was acting up. I guess it has to do with CWM, but idk why.
What i did was copy the ROM on my external sd card, then put it on the phone and move them to internal sd card
Hope that help
you can use adb to push file to your phone.

CWM won't let me mount SDEXT. Is there something special I have to do to get this to work?
You may have to pull the sd card and use an external card reader.

ADB did the trick. I didn't realize it could push to the phone like that. Easy cheesy. Thanks!
And as for external SD card reader - this doesn't do anything to help transfer a file to the phone. Recovery was unable to mount SDEXT. I can't find any documentation on the matter, but I assume this is a Vibrant-related issue?
Hi, I just have the exact problem on my galaxy note. Trouble is that I can't find a way to connect to my phone through ADB. It just isn't listed when I type "adb devices". I would appreciate any help so I could "push" a rom and be done with it.

Check Applications/Development/Enable USB Debugging. If that is on, make sure you have the necessary drivers on the PC.
As for mounting via CWM, that should work if CWM gives the option. Again, check drivers on PC.
Can anyone tell me why when I connect in Media Transfer Mode, my SD Card reads as blank in Windows. Windows detects the phone AND the memory card but it is blank. You can create folder, files etc on the blank card but they dissapear also.
However, if you connect the phone in Mass Storage Mode or remove the card and plug it into PC, everything works fine. The card also works fine in the phone.
Windows 7. 16GB Card that came with the Play.
ps. the card data usage is reading as correct even though I can't see anything on it in Media Transfer Mode.
reinstall pc companion check my thread about mtp app it should explain everything on how to bring back everything
The blank problem is because the driver are not correctly installed.
Ok, thankyou.
Weird, followed your excellent thread and done a reinstall but still blank.
yeah weird... you are sure that everything is available on mass storage mode ?
if it's the case then maybe your data are hidden on the device...
Check if there is folder without a dot at the start of the name (non hidden folder)
put new files and see what happen
Run a chkdisk on your SDcard with windows on mass storage mode
get andexplorer and check if everything is available through this app
windows might be infected by a virus that put your SD in a weird state
do a virus check...
Last if nothing above works: media transfer mode on your xplay> go to printer and other device on PC > right click > properties > hardware tab > properties > driver > uninstall driver > follow mtp app guide again to reinstall the driver
after that report back here

Yep, all there. Phone is also detected fine in Media Transfer Mode in PC Companion (as R800).
Will do the rest when I get a moment, thanks for the help.

- I did this in Mass Storage mode and it works normally.

- Done, it is fine. I used Astro and all is there.

I'm doomed to use Mass Storage Mode!
Why doomed?
You want to get files from your PC or laptop to your Play, right?
That's what mass storage mode is for. That's what I use.
The only time I need to be in media transfer mode is to communicate with the Play with adb, having nothing to do with the SD card.
What exactly do you want here??
Maybe he didn't figure out how to mount the sd card to after choosing mass storage mode.
Remember you need to mount SD for accessing the file on the computer after setting mass storage mode
Ok, I guess it is not that big of a deal. Was just curious to getting it working as it should. It's not really gonna impact me.
Thanks for all your help kenshindono, your info and posts are very helpful.
Unlike DeadlyDazza who seems continuously rude and obnoxious.
Not really, i could understand if you had a crippling problem which prevented you from connecting your device for transfers.
But that's what mass storage mode is for, as far as I know, media transfer mode is for pushing with adb & using SE's media transfer PC software.
