I have an i8000L coming, I guess it is network locked to TIGO, somewhere in South America. Where is everyone else getting theirs and how are they unlocking it? Anything useful would be appreciated. Thanks.

Received.
Confirmed: TIGO - Guatemala (i8000L)
WM6.1
PDA: I8000LUBIH5
CSC: I8000LCGUIH2
PHONE: I8000LWMIH2
I have an "L" too. Mine was unlocked by the operator for free.
Nobody else has an i8000L?
I have a i8000L. I got mine from Bell/Aliant in Canada.
One thing to keep in mind is that when flashing a new ROM onto a i8000L... it's recommended by Rodrigofd at Modaco to ONLY flash the PDA section and leave the CSC, eBoot, and Phone parts alone. Flashing the PDA has almost no risk and I have the original ROM posted here (for backup): modaco.com/category/424/i8000-omnia-ii-gsm-rom-discussion/
You can find more info about flashing on that site. Hopefully XDA can catch up soon
Thanks for your response. I have been looking through the Modaco forums and have noticed that Omnia 2 flashing does look quite different than HTC flashing. This is another reason I'm interested about others i8000L devices. Most people it seems have the phone from Bell.
You'll need to flash that eboot to get additional 5mb of ram released by rom JA5.
BTW. i8000L canadian versions can ONLY be unlocked by Bell at the moment.
That is VERY good to know and explains why I see so many BELL versions sitting on ebay unsold.

You can flash the Eboot as well. Actually, I got mine done under JA5's Rom. Using I8000L from Bell and got the 5 extra MB.

Yeah I was lucky and was able to buy an unlocked one from a local shop here.
Well, got my phone. After poking around a bit, I ordered my unlock code. It will supposedly take 5-7 days, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'll update you all if it worked or not and by whom.
i8000L Bell unlock service
if you do end up getting your phone unlocked please let me know too. Mine is still Bell branded and locked and nobody can help me in getting it unlocked. Even Bell tech support wasn't sure how they could do it since I don't live in Canada....they said to take it in to a service center. It's a long drive from Florida for me
Gordon
You might be SOL for the time being. Why did you buy a locked Bell phone from canada? Bell support is lying if they say they can't do it. They have the codes on hand but not a lot of staff know about it or know how to look for the codes. They just won't give it out if you're not a customer.
I have also a I8000L from the operator ICE Costa Rica with win 6.1. It seems my phone operator doesnt offer an upgrade to win 6.5.

Just grab the latest rom from modaco. Instant 6.5.
if anyone finds how to unlock the omnia 2 from bell, please let me know. I really want to buy it and use on rogers...
I should have a response this week from the website I ordered my code from.
Well, I gave it the old college try. I was sent a refund by the website, mobileunlocked.com.
Well, moving on..... I guess I should have just bought an unlocked O2.
ahhhh, that blows was hoping they send you the code and everything worked good, so i can go get my omnia 2 and unlock it also
only way i know is if you are a bell owner is to call up bell. They will charge you 75 dollars but they will unlock the phone.
Also i have read they only do it if you are a bell customer

Can the Telus HTC Hero be unlocked, without having any telus sim or being activated on telus in any way at all? I'm on Bell but want an android device. Was thinking of buying it, unlocking it, and throwing in a Bell sim.
unlock?
I am looking for the same answer, it should be able to get unlocked question is has anyone don it yet.
Unlocked and android 2
Better yet lets see it unlocked and android 2 installed!
There is a guy on eBay selling unlock code for the Telus Hero (try searching "telus hero"). If you are willing to shell out 25 bucks, you may want to try that. He said that he would refund you if his code didn't work.
Telus does not lock the phone, that's what the CSR told me. Pretty much u can put in any sim card to make it work.

That's really good news for us AT&T guys!!! I just need to buy one now, from what I hear Telus will not ship to the USA.
So far, actually buying one is the biggest issue. There's been discussion both here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580418
and on some other forums, such as:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1585687
About buying it. Apparently both Best Buy and Walmart in Canada have them, but only sell them in the store and won't ship them. (Best Buy's is on their website, but Walmart's doesn't seem to be).
I'm an AT&T subscriber that's been keeping an eye out for a way to buy a Telus HTC Hero. If I lived close to Canada, I'd drive up and get one, but I live in Georgia, so it's a bit far. I hope somebody finds a place online or something.
I'd be careful about believing the Telus CSR info that the phone is unlocked. Somebody posted on Boy Genius Report that they bought one and the phone IS locked.
See user "k386" comment here:

I just bought a Telus Hero from Best Buy today, and I can tell you that the phones are LOCKED. Bought a code off a website and unlocked it, it is now usable on Rogers, but I'm with bell, so I will have to get a Bell Sim tomorrow.

thanks for the heads up
I just got my brand new Hero from Telus at square one.
I then put my Rogers sim card in.
I unlocked it successfully through mobileincanada.com it took 10 minutes to receive the unlock code.
Everything is working great so far. Except for wifi ... having issues connecting to any hot spots? it may be just weak signal or something ... will do some more investigating.
btw. My old phone was the HTC HERMES (I loved it for many years) but it's time to move on
Hey all right! Congratulations!

So, just checking: You live in Canada, right? You didn't drive there from USA, right?
I'm just looking at this from afar. So that mall has a main Telus store and a satellite store. For the smaller store, I see that the store mgr or seller provides a non-telus email address. So, for those who want this phone, i don't guess you'd think he'd sell & ship them, right?
Because what were the requirements to buy the phone? I'm just curious since so many people in US are trying to find a source where to buy these phones from.
How much did mobileincanada charge to unlock? And would they be a possible source for buying telus phones, and re-selling & shipping, at a markup, to USA?

This is how I feel about my T-mobile Wing... My unlocked Europe/GSM version of the Hero arrives tomorrow. I wanted the brown color Then I should just have to call up t-mobile's data group and get the settings to use it, with my swapped out sim card, right? (I know, i know, i won't get 3G. That's okay with me. there are many tradeoffs)
You don't need to meet any requirements to buy the phone outright. Other than having the cash to do so
I've bought 3 this week for USA members to ship to them. Was no biggie.

Yes that's who I'm doing it for
I am waiting mine to arrive (my friend in Canada bought and shipped it to me).
Just now I went to HTC Canada's website and looked at the spec again:
Dual mode UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (900/2100MHz for
EU/Asia, 850/1900 for US and 850/2100 for Telstra)
It's funny how they list 850/1900 for US on HTC Canada's website, as if the phone was designed to work in the US. They could have put it much better by saying "850/1900 for Telus"... Only AT&T uses 850/1900 here in the US, and NO I don't think AT&T is carrying any Android device in the near future.
It's like "Hey, friends across the borders. I am sorry for making the Hero exclusively on CDMA networks in your country, but you know what, here is something that you may like."
Hi Folks,
I have spent a considerable amount of time before i actually registered searching through hundreds of posts in relation to the unlocking to the HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (UK) everyone appears to give links to various different websites who charge for unlocking, some people appear to contradict what others have said and to be honest it's all very confusing!
I'm due to take delivery of a brand new HTC HD2 this coming Monday and it's locked to T-Mobile, that's doesn't present a problem as such as im on T-Mobile here but i do want to get it unlocked for when i go back to Dublin so i can put my Meteor SIM or any other SIM card in, however in all the times ive had mobiles that have been locked to 1 network ive always managed to get them unlocked usually online but im coming up short this time, my question is - is there anyway i can get this phone unlocked without having to pay to do so, also i recall someone saying you need to get it flashed first before you get it unlocked, can some clarify and any other tips would be appreciated.
Good forum this and quite helpful
flashing has got nothing to do with unlocking.
certain networks unlock for free but some charge dont know about tmobile.o2 recently started to unlock for free.
certain networks dont even lock it just wait and see.
carphone warehouse most of the time they give unbranded phones so its unlocked.
my hd2 says tmobile on box but there's no sign of tmobile customization.
on the other hand my mates phone is on tmobile and its customized .
just wait for it..

Can anyone do this debrand? is there a guide?
I have a Carrier version of the phone and the only branding is a spash screen on start up. WP7 was desigined to be carrier free with no overlays. Most carriers will put a hub with there related software in it which you can uninstall or remove the tile from the home screen.
the problem is that with my H3G brand i can't change the mms'apn settings so i can't send mms
exactly that is why I need to debrand mine purchased in Three.
Anyone?
I'm also wondering too mate!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937219
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887045 : download and install firmware (you may need to do 301k trick - i did but it was easy) there is no branding in sight on the rom I now have - it was originally t-mobiled up to the eyeballs.
Out of curiosity, why do people like to debrand their Omnia 7 phones?
People like to scratch out the branding, too.
Why?

'Because.....' isn't a proper answer.
Carriers brand their phones for marketing purposes, obviously.
Subsidized (cheaper w/ contract agreemnet) phones are branded, unsubsidized (full price w/o contract agreement) phones aren't.

It wasn't meant to be a proper answer. All you had to do is just dig a little further.
Cheaper than w/o contract or not devices bought through carriers are individuals own property and the reason for subsidizing is to generate more sales of their own services and not for placing adverts on the devices. Some people do not feel comfortable advertising the carriers on their devices while they the carriers were not involved in the manufacturing of the actual device. eg. if I buy a discounted device from Amazon I wouldn't be happy if they stamp their logo all over the device unless they mention the reason they are giving the discount is for advertising the logo on the device before purchase.
Maybe because "unbranded" NoDo update is being rolled out before the carrier versions? By running USAIP.pkg you can "trick" microsoft update into thinking you are in a region getting the unbranded update - as long as you are not carrier branded.
question - I have just bought a omnia 7 off ebay which i thought was on 3 but its on orange ... ive bought an unlock code off ebay (had good feedback) which im sat waiting for patiently ..... question is if i debrand does this void the 2yr warranty ??? there is a company on ebay which ive used before and they will debrand the phone for you for less than £20 ..
tbh there isnt much orange blurb on the phone but i hate orange and they are slow in releasing updates ... i updated this afternoon to the feb update but no sign of the nodo update ...

Hi, I did this yesterday but I used the H3G CSC (which is my network). After the flash, my phone is still branded.
What is the correct method to unbrand my phone? I tried to do it without the CSC but the tool didn't seem to allow it.
So I was trying to find a cheaper way to unlock a Samsung focus and came across this thread and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible. it's post #10:
http://www.modaco.com/content/samsu...lock-my-samsung-focus-from-at-t/#entry1571641
Flashing Focus with Omnia rom, it will work but you will have serious issues. There is already someone here that did that and reported a lot of problems, read this thread. The person on modaco doesn't look trustworthy, imho.
As for the unlock part, if you're looking for developer unlock aka sideloading/Chevron, it's the same difficulty for all phones. If you're looking for carrier unlock, you can't do it by flashing a rom. I recommend fastgsm service for that, they're the cheapest.
LE: I see you're canadian, if it's on Rogers it might be even cheaper, read the unlock thead I linked.

Thank you for the reply. It's not a Rogers but an AT&T one. I got it for $250 on ebay as part of a charity auction so even with the cost of the unlock it's still very cheap. It seemed weird but WP7 is a new platform to me so figured anything could be possible.
In any case, you should start here. WP7 has much to offer and in the same time it's young. The ride is certainly interesting for me and I have the same as you, an AT&T Focus.

Prior to NoDo, I had debranded the Focus and subsequently have never gotten the firmware update from Samsung. I tried the update tools to force it, but I get an error saying "Two or more packages in the update contain the same file". Any ideas on what else to try?

Re-branding it might enable the update. It worked for me, in some cases unbranding gave me an update, others times rebranding gave it.
I used www.cellunlocker.net for unlocking Rogers branded Samsung Focus. Was quick turn around and it was only USD$ 7.99. Might be different cost for other carrier branded phones.

Hey guys,
I think I've finally settled on the S4 after trying and comparing it to the HTC One yesterday. It just felt far better in my hand and the screen was beautiful.
Now in the UK, as I'm sure many of you guys know (correct me if I'm wrong), but the best contract deal to have for tethering is the One plan by Three.
Unlimited data + tethering, a rare jewel indeed. As to whether they throttle during peak times, well you can't have everything and I haven't found any conclusive evidence to suggest they do so, please link me if I'm wrong here.
Either way, I am limited on my options here, due to my tethering requirements.
However the only thing preventing me from getting a Three phone is the fact that places like Phones4U or Carphone Warehouse either don't stock them or only stock SIM locked versions with branded firmwares for Three phones. Apparently they use a different method of sim locking the device, I can't be too sure what though.
Anyway, so it seems that whichever way I go about it, if I want data, I'll have a sim locked phone (they unlock after 3 months). This doesn't worry me though, what worries me is any restrictions on flashing the device.
I'm coming from an SGS - i9000. A device that seemed unbrickable and flashable every which way, from radio, to kernel, recovery and general software.
I want to know, are there any restrictions on flashing custom kernels, recoveries, modems (radios) or general firmwares that anyone has encountered, or am I safe getting a phone from Three UK (HG3)?
Rant over, sorry .
I have searched the forums and I haven't been able to find definite information.

'Tar very much! That's great news. I had heard rumours there were ways to bypass simlock via software hacks, however I had never really needed to use them. I doubt the sim lock will cause a problem for me. More a case of who I pass it on to!
