Looking for a good movie converter from divx to something that the nexus can play. Preferably free. I'm a little new to this.
handbrake has been my main movie encoder for the last few years. I have never had anything in divx before but it ripped an avi_divx sample file I found on the web just fine.
If you are a windows user and handbrake is not your cup of tea you might look around doom9.net .

I used Super C for the g1 - worked great.
Unrelated, but I ran into what seems to be a FS issue when trying to copy some movies, and that the microsd card can't support files over 4GB in size. Windows however is telling me that the FS is fat32 and not fat16. So I'm still left wondering what the limitation was/is.
Edit: nvm I had my FS messed up, and fat32 does in fact have a file size limitation of 4GB.

Does doubletwist convert them and shrink them or just to download movies? I don't see anywhere to convert and shrink.
Nothing could be better than a simple MediaCoder (just for every purposes)
I've had good luck with "Any Video Converter"... at least with the G1. It does any sort of conversion imaginable and is free, IIRC.

I have al little question, and wundering if you can help me out.
Is it possible to get a movie from a dvd to play on my tp2.
I understand that i have to rip the dvd to my computer.
Thats the easy part.
But than, i have to make the size of the movie smaller, so it wil fit to the sd cart and it still has to be converted to a size that the tp2 will understand.
Is the a cab. file for my tp2 that will allowed my tp2 to realy plays a movie.
And wich software i can download to convert a ript off dvd to tp2 size playing.
I already tryed some converter programs, but the will not make the movie work on the tp2
I have a 4gb sd-cart so the zise off the movie will fit the sd cart.

I personally use AVS video convertor -http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx?sct=inc&ct=google&cid=67 it is a paid app but very good and simple to use, but i'm sure there must be free versions of a similar program available.
also i convert to MP4 and play using either Coreplayer-http://coreplayer.com/, TCMP-http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/or the built in HTC Album video player. others use different formats for higher compression(to fit more on the sd card)..... Definately think about trying out/buying CorePlayer as it is a great media player.

I personally would look for a program called Format Factory. Search for it on google. It can convert any video, audio ,pictures etc into any format you want and best of all, it's free.
My favorite converter is dvd::rip (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/). I've converted movies to 480x256 that play beautifully with CorePlayer.

Does this convert movie files into that size/resolution or just DVDs?
I use a program called DVD Catalyst. It cost me like $20 but I can rip into any format and screen size I want. I use the free TCPMP to play all my movies on my TP2.

did::rip will only covert DVDs (after ripping them), but I think installing it will also give you command-line tools to be able to convert other formats as well. I haven't looked for a GUI for that yet.
I dvdfab to rip the DVD to my hard drive and AutoGK to convery to Xvid format. Both are really easy to use. I use the basic free DviX player to play them. Not a very nice player but it's free.
The best one... is FREE!!!
Being Dutch, you probably would like to have your subtitles included, something US and UK people does not take into account when looking for a media coder.
Here is the best, multilingual, I set profiles for my wife's Nokia and for my superb Tilt2 (and my old Fuze as well).
It comes with the codecs and the tutorials and all you need to rip any movies/DVD into your phone.

I have pocket rar on my device. Do I copy my dvd to pc then copy that to my handheld ?. What is the easiest guide. I have a 2gb memory card. Zip wouldn't let me. Said file too big. Thanks.
be alot easier if you had the avi file or mp4 of the dvd.

I dont think you'll have any luck playing DVD files directly on the device, if you can even get them there. The first thing is: You'll need TCPMP player, if you want to maintain your sanity (or you can go crazy trying to get WMP to do anything worthwhile...lol) Get it from this thread:

As far as getting movies onto the device, You have 2 choices:
#1 Get the films you want from Torrents, in AVI format. The ones that are sized to fit onto 1 CD (about 750MB) will work very nicely without having to do anything to them!
#2 Get a DVD ripper. You can probably find one for free, but I personally use a paid version from Wondershare. It won't work on every one, but for most it does.

this topic (and many variations) has been answered many many many times before,
there is no 'best way' you ask that here and all you'll get is other peoples recommendations which will vary wildly. leaving you possibly more confussed then when you asked!
the process remains the same (legit DVD > a means to rip the DVD to a compatible format > testing the playback for results)
you may well notice an audio delay, in which case you need a dvd ripping/converter that can allow you to set the encoding to account for this.

I have divx converter on my p c. Never used it before. So I put in my legit dvd. rip it. compress it to mp4. Then cut and paste it to my memory card And voila ?.
I downloaded pocket divx. You can download films straight to device. Is there a catch when registering ?.
I use a program called handbrake...its free google it....my videos are as clear as Transformers....i select video conversion to mpeg4 and select 100% quality...thats all u need....trust me.
ive found threads talking about HandBrake and SUPER... but after a few days of reading and trying, the best i can get is an audo track of the movie to play, but no video with handbrake... and super plays both but the audio lags behind a few seconds???
i use DVDFab to get the raw data files saved to my computer, now im trying to shrink those files down so i can run them on my TP2...
forgive me for being 'slow' lol, but im at a loss...
maybe im using the wrong programs and theres something better? something a little more clean cut and to the point?
I haven't done it in a few years, but I used to use the program DVD2PPC to convert DVD movies into a smaller (200-300MB) file for viewing on my Ipaq. Google it to find the website.
Costs $19.95 though, but I remember that it worked quite well. And there is a free trial.

i use DVD shrink ( freeware ) and DivX convert for any movies i want to put on TP2. You can download these all for free from their websites.
i use an old program called FlasKMPEG
able to crop and resize etc and it always maintains a high quality movie with a DivX codec
Baddaboom works but it cost. You can find it for free if you look hard. it will convert a movie in less than 30 minutes. thats dvd to 720x480 mp4 so smaller sizes should be faster. but it depends on your video card as well. 100% gpu proccessing to convert so it won't lag your pc while converting it.
can someone share any information on how to convert videos for the nexus s? as i am having quite a bit of trouble, programs used etc?

I use handbrake also, but do so in a slightly different way.
I got tired of re-ripping my movies each time I switched to a device that had a different resolution/codec/whatever. So what I did was to buy two 1TB drives, one for DVD Movies, and one for DVD TV shows. Then I downloaded the free DVDFab (http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm). DVDFab will strip the DRM from the movie and copy it. For movies I only copy the "main movie", for TV Shows I "copy the entire disk".
Then, since I dual-boot Ubuntu Linux, I wrote a couple of scripts to use HandBrake to go through all of the DVD folders and convert any DVD Movie to my current movie codec (right now mp4 using H.264). For the TV DVD's I create a text file with each episode's title and location on the disk. That way I can again transcode them automatically.
So, for instance, when H.264/mp4 is no longer viable and we are all on WebM, all I have to do is download the latest version of HandBrake for Ubuntu, change the settings in the script, and re-run them. Viola, I have all of my movies and TV shows on my third 1TB drive that I can take with me and put on my phone or laptop or whatever.
I found FormatFactory to be better than handbrake if you already have the source on your computer and want to implement subtitles. Just my experience.

....It doesn't on others. So you can decide who to believe. I mean, it's been used and recommended by xda members and other sites. So yeah, believe what you want and use what you want.
The only thing McAfee got right is the wavesecure app, otherwise I wouldn't just believe everything their software say.
Ok so my problem is regarding playing some movies I recently encoded. Movie info is as such:
h.264 MP4
2.8gb size
2000 kps Bitrate
800x480 resolution
29.75 Fps
128 kps audio
The movies I have tried are King Kong and Inception, now these movies have both played fine using WP7 but when I try to load them in Android they fail to play.
Is there a file size limit to what Android can handle processing? Shorter movies (FF7 Advent Children for example) will play just fine when the file size is about 1.5-1.8gb.
I tried the stock video player along with several free options from the market and same story every time.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me

sorry to throw this into further confusion but i just finished watching sorcerer's apprentice and the mp4 file size is 2.6gb. i alternate between using rockplayer and vital player on my hd2. no problems and the skip / locate works well. example, i wasn't able to finish it on the train yesterday morning. in the afternoon, boarded the train and rockplayer picked it up from the last scene i left it. although....i DID run into an mkv 300mb file which was rather slow and the skip/locate froze up. which is really strange because i've watched other mkv files with no problems. could be the file itself regardless if it's mp4, mkv, avi, etc.

Fat32 is 4gb limit if I remember right from my xbox360 days, if it was 2gb the file wouldn't be on a fat32 drive in the first place, or copy successfully onto a fat32 SD card from say a ntfs drive
download QQ Player from the android market. Thats what solved my problem.
