I noticed that no matter how far you try to zoom out, you can not see the entire webpage of certain sites.
Is there a reason behind this? And if so, is there a fix? Not a lot of ppl are talking about this issue.
I was really bothered by that, till last night when I managed to fix it while snooping around the registry
Lower Default Zoom (Really takes advantage of the HD2 beautiful screen)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Prefs\Adaptative Zoom]
Default Zoom=100 (or lower value... play with it)
Hope it helps
humm weird. i still wont. webpages remain zoomed in on first entry. such as notebookreview.com. even after changing it to 100, the webpage does not fully show 100% but rather zoomed in.
** UPDATE:
changing the default zoom did not work, but right under that key was VIRTUAL screen (default 800). I changed it to 1000 and wahlah! it worked !
I now see webpages in full scale and no longer zoomed in.
This is great and should definitely appear in BsB tweak, I like it!
Hmmmmm weird, worked for me ... anyway, glad you got it sorted out. It shouldcome like that as standard really

You can find this setting in about:config -> Adaptive Zoom -> Virtual Screen Width
And if you guys are interested, here are a couple other reg settings I liked:
Increase Scrolling FPS
I changed the following key to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Info]
PanFps=50
Increase Zooming FPS
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Info]
ZoomFps=50
These two above make a world of difference in smoothness of both scrolling and zooming on my device. Do not enter a value higher than 50 or it will not take effect (at least it did not on my HD2)
Enjoy
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
In my Kaiser, i could manage this by pressing and holding the bars to move the screen. In Leo this was impossible, so some sites were just useless to me.

Exactly. With "Virtual Screen Width" set to 1000 or even more, you will be able to always see the entire website.
does anyone kno9w why in certain versions of opera, when you open Google search engine, you cannot see the 'Show Options' button? (at the top -- when you click on this it allows you to hit "latest" so you get real time tweets and so on).

When I enable clear type in landscape mode by editing the registery :
Changing the value of HKLM\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings\OffOnRotation from 1 to 0 it works BUT only for a while, then it reverts back to 0 and
I don't have clear type when I pull out the keyboard. Does anyone know how to make it stay? (it worked in the wizard without any problems)
Thanks.

I use nScriptm freeware from www.s-k-tools.com and a simple script. I made a shortcut in the startup folder to run this script w/o showing the console window.
BTW the same script sets PIE cache size to 4096MB for me - a value that is reset every boot as well.
Easy peasy...why make things harder
Download TwkCL from here...
http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=2005022517002183
or if you can't just searchfor it.
Place it in your Windows - Startup folder.
Select it to run it, nothing will happen but it HAS ben enabled.
Then you simply soft-reset your device.
Et Voila! You have Cleartype always enabled in landscape mode.
It wouldnt work properly anyway... MS Cleartype counts on horizontal orientation of R-G-B triplet in LCD matrix, it can not do "vertical subpixel rendering", only horizontal.
So if you forcefully enable it in landscape, it would smooth text in perpendicular direction, making it more blurry instead of actual resolution enhancement.
Actually it works perfectly...the text looks EXACTLY the same either way.
Been using it ever since I had my JAM.
It doesnt. Surely, you see the difference, but only in Portrait it actually works as intended. In Landscape you get same result youll get if you grab a screenshot from Cleartype text and rotate it - if you'll read how cleartype actually works, you'll understand that this would obliterate the main idea of it.
Even MS said that numerous times. The only advantage you get in landscape is "smoother" fonts, but that came with drawback of reduced sharpness and also more visible "color outlines" on letters (while in portrait when cleartype works as intended sharpness is not reduced and color outlines is a lot less visible).
Read this article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleartype
It would help you to undestand the mechanics of it.
I actually found the answer to my own question. For the TyTN, you have to change HKLM\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings\ROTATION\LandscapeMode from 1 to 0 and it'll stay. It works. No need to load any programs in the startup folder.
Ken
under gdi?
I can't find it, there's cleartypesetting and rotation, not rotation undercleartype.
Please clarify
Actually, don't you mean change the HKLM/System/GDI/ClearTypeSettings/ROTATION value from 0 to 1? ClearType will be on in landscape mode then.
@Ingvarr: you are correct but it still looks better when ClearType is enabled IMO

I guess its up to personal preferences... Iam very color sensitive, I guess thats why I cant bear visible color smudges at fonts edges in landscape
I've just used Magic SS to take screenshots of each and it looks the same even after a side by side zoomed in comparison down to the last pixel.
It looks the same to me. Maybe I'm losing it.

Hi, does this actually stay for you?, I had that set awhile back, and it would revert to the oem settings after a few soft resets or shutdowns.
I also like cleatype in landscape on, I do understand why its off by default, but I guess its really up to ones own prefrences, I changed the system font, and the cleartype makes the font look much better, It could possibly be that I need to up the font size.
Just a tip..if anyone decides to play with the system font, put the font in your windows directory, not the fonts folder, maybe everyne else already knew this, but I used the fonts folder at first...and it worked, but caused glitches.
Sorry to ramble off topic for a bit.
No, I do mean change the value from 1 to 0
If it is at 1, Clear Type would not be enabled in Landscape mode
If it is at 0, Clear Type WOULD be ENABLED in Lanscape mode

This doesn't work for me.
At first, I made the new key as kittiyut instructed because there was no key in defalut:
HKLM/System/GDI/ClearTypeSettings/ROTATION/LandscapeMode and set its value to 1
But this didn't work anything.
And then, I changed registries as follows and it seems OK before I soft-reset with stylus.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings]
"OffOnRotation"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
"LandscapeMode"=dword:00000000
But after stylus reset, OffOnRotation=1 comes alive again.
I think TwkCL is the only solution for Hermes now.

Well, thats exactly what is wrong - you see, you take screenshots, that doesnt capture actual micro-lamp layout on your LCD screen - and this is what ClearType uses to actually _enhance_ resolution. To correctly see it, you should take _photos_ of screen
Read the Wikipedia page, you'll understand it It it would work properly, landscape one would be different from portrait - in landscape LCD triplets go in "vertical" way relatively to the text, while in portrait they go in horizontal way relatively to the text.

the correct tweak is HKLM/System/GDI /ClearTypeSettings and setting the onoffrotatation dword from 1 to 0
I myself just realized after your post that the key people had been changin doesn't exist, and it hadn't been mentioned to create one...no wonder people were sayin they couldn't find it, and it will revert back to 1 after a few resets anyhow, like you mentioned.
After much gnashing of teeth and fudging around with registry settings, I agree that TwkCL in startup seems to be the only way to get ClearType in landscape mode currently....
But none of these solutions does not work with AKU 3.3...
Edit: Works, works,... Need to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\GDI\ROTATION] "LandscapeMode"=dword :00000000
and copy TwkCL to startup.
I found this at PPCGEEKS. Can someone be brave enough to install and let me know how it is different than 9.33?

this is v9.5 build 405, it runs faster than v9.0 build 331 but smart-fit function is still for VGA only, hoping final version will support QVGA!

Tried it - still very slow on my Trinity WM6 compared to opera mini. Also I encountered many freezes of the ppc and had t soft reset.
Maybe it's not meant to be used on qvga screens at all.
Will still wait for the final release.
I downloaded it, but it wouldn't open on my Kaiser.

Try typing "about:config" in the address field (without the quotes)
and you can customize maaaaaaaaaaaaany settings including screen
size with Adaptive Zoom Settings. So you optimze it for QVGA Portrait
or Landscape screen. You can also change Cache Location and much more!!
Olioaglio
wow I didnt even know about that - Do you have any recommended settings for qvga. To me it seems like the fonts are perhaps wrong.
update...
Guys I posted a new CAB with uninstaller. Also posted qVGA version. Enjoy!
Autowrap
Guess there isn't any auto wrap of text or fitting to page like in mini?
To get this version set up properly type opera:config into the address bar. Then go to Adaptive Zoom hit default for everything except "Virtual Screen Width" put this to 960. This will set it to the same settings as 9.0 v.331. I'm still playing around with this setting to see if I can get QVGA screens to do the smart zoom to text like on OperaMini.

You you can change many settings there including Adaptive zoom, however that is only PART of the solution to getting Opera to properly fit to screen on a QVGA device.
These VGA optimized versions limit the paragraph width to VGA dimensions... not QVGA ones... It is possible to make some adjustments to the adaptive zoom settings to compensate for this.. but for many sites it is not enough. We need to be able to adjust the limit on the paragraph width... like it does in Opera Mini.
I know this could not be done in the config section of Opera Mobile 9.33 ....can it be done in 9.405? There is an option to turn the "limit paragraph width" on and off, but not to adjust the actual width.

Hey
I'm trying to get the HP iPaq 614c in a usable state....what I'm finding is that the Smart-Touch scroll wheel is great, nice and quick and you can be productive.
But, because it is only one way (up <-> down), and because it usually functions as the equivalent of a "tab" key press (if on a PC) you can't use it for moving around in a text block.
You have to use the up down left right method by hovering over 5, then moving your thumb in the appropriate direction...however, the repeat rate on this is slow slow slow......
Its enough to not make me keep the 614c because it means editing SMSs or emails or even just random text fields like URLs is painful, particularly when you make a mistake.
Does anyone know any registry fields to change this?
I've tried the accessible settings in Settings > Buttons > Up/Down Control but they have no effect.
Thanks!
Si
yes i would be interested in this too.
I've searched the registry but couldn't fnd anything applicable. I found one key which was reported in another forum, but it had no effect.
WAY NOT TAP (WITH FINGER) ON THE AREA AND THEN MOVE L/R
I THINK YOU NEED TO HAVE "SLOW" MOVMENT FOR SOME APPS/FILES
well that is why I do, like you say. I guess slow movement may be useful for some things.
When you're in the middle of a text message or email though, it can take days to scroll through a message.
Its also very hard to pinpoint the cursor to the right area with out using the stylus (i.e. with your finger nail).....
...part of the beauty of the 614c for me is the phone keypad which allows T9 input (T9 input being super fast compared to any qwerty input with two fingers), but when you can't edit the message very easily it becomes annoying.
Im sorry to say that I don’t know/suffer from your prob
not that I do want problems, but the thing is that all text is within the bounds of the screen (for me on long doc/mail....) so the only need for fast thing is up down
maybe you have a different setting that lets you see "out of the screen" ~ the need for fast L/R scrolling
as for ie tx9 I don’t use this method so ….. I disabled the default settings of having it on first thing
for ie address I use pie-plus app ,it has within it's settings option for quick words/address and finger scrolling or open more then one tab etc.
but you asked so I will give you the solution
please backup your device
open a reg edit like this free one
http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
then go to HKLM/software/tegic/et9/ime
tap on D-WORD "carrierDefaultTextMode"
set value from "0" to "1"
enjoy
for l/r scrolling, what i'm talking about is when you're editing a text message or an email, they can get quite long. so say you're editing a message, then you realise you need to add a word at the start or edit a word in the middle, it takes ages to scroll to the middle or the beginning using the l/r scrolling on the smart touch wheel....and when i say ages, i mean ages, at least compared to how quickly it works on the smartphones with a hard nav joystick/wheel.
it has nothing to do with whether you can see the text on the screen. its to do with moving the caret/cursor/pointer around within the text.
thanks for that registry entry...i did try it, but it made no difference. IE still uses abc method.
i may look at that pie-plus ting though, looks like it may help.

hey yeah
that did work, thanks!! (making the default mode actually work as default in all circumstances)
i just typed it wrong.
told you so i will also look into the wheel thing im now into helping with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403736
more option etc. mainly 4 ipaq 600
hmmmm.....do you know how to make that keyboard fix work even when you install a 3rd party keyboard.
I was trying to install a finger friendly keyboard for the times when you have to type in passwords or other such delicates, but if i do that after having made that modification it loses it as the default.
Opera Mobile 10 is more slick, but a big problem I had with it was that unless Zoom was set to at least 140%, links / text in Portrait mode were too small to click on / read. The lack of adaptive zoom and zoom slider in Opera 10 didn't help either. Well not any more!
Either go into the Opera advanced settings page by typing in "opera:config" in the URL when Opera 10 is running and click on "Fonts" to change the font settings, or just stick the following lines into the "Opera.ini" file inside <Opera 10 Installed Location>\PROFILE\ directory:
Code:
[Fonts]
Form.Button=25,3,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
Form.Input=25,3,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
Form.Text=24,3,0,0,0,0,Courier New
H1=40,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H2=34,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H3=30,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H4=26,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H5=22,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H6=20,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
Normal=25,3,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
PRE=23,3,0,0,0,0,Courier New
The 1st number in each line represents the actual font size. Adjust to your liking. The font sizes above let me navigate most websites with Default Zoom @ 100% and the text is very readable.
Note that some webpages will look more misaligned due to the larger fonts, but now at least you won't need to have zoom at 200% to be able to read the text
This probably also works for Opera 9.7 and below, but the issue isn't as important since these versions have a more useful zoom slider and proper font-size adjustment in the Settings menu whereas Opera 10 buries it in the opera:config page.
Hope this helps some of you out there.
Have you also tried to size the browser window to fit on the screen from the "opera:config"? I mean, I tried to set the default zoom to 100% instead of (I believe) 175% as is the default. Looking at a webpage I like to see it all, and THEN I decide what to zoom in on.
I read another post where the guy managed to set the zoom to 100%, I just didn't have any luck doing that on my phone! Maybe I made a mistake, don't know...
Wonder if there might be another place to type in how wide you want to see the pages in default mode...
regards Helle
Thanks for this info
Hi all
Can a few people do me a favour and test out the following webpage on the default browser chrome:
http://www.itv.com/thismorning/showbiz/im-a-celebrity-deadly-delivery/
Note that the text is sharp.
Now scroll down so that the nav bar is no longer visible.
Does the text turn noticeably (and very blatantly) blurry/fuzzy?
If yes then chrome has a bug?
If not then I think I may have a defective screen? Haven't really noticed it in other apps yet.
I think it goes blurry for me sometimes when it is rendering
In order to be smooth when scrolling, most browsers use low resolution images when scrolling/zooming etc, then sharpen up when you stop moving (sorry about my bad terminology). Is this what is happening in your case? When mine goes blurry, it sharpens up within a few seconds.
Mine stays blurry even after its finished loading.
I also seem to have some touch screen issues. doesn't always smoothly zoom in and out when using pinch to zoom in maps, gallery, browser etc. It's as if it doesn't recognize that there's two fingers/touch points on it constantly..
They're both actually things I've tried to ignore but can't especially when the same actions on my galaxy nexus are flawless. Thought I'd check here with others to see if it's a defective unit. It's my second already..
I noticed the blurry text only on the mobile site of twitter
Yes I have this issue too. The texts remain blurry after the webpage is resized.

Windows registry edit - fixes Chrome text/fonts blurry/thin issue
Windows Registry editing fixed the font thickness issue for me perfectly, we can tune the font thickness/darkness by calibrating FONTSMOOTHINGGAMMA value to anywhere between 150 and 190 hexadecimal( 336 to 400 decimal )
- START -> RUN -> REGEDIT
- search for FONTSMOOTHINGGAMMA by keying " Ctrl F " ( will automatically take us to CurrentUser\ControlPanel\Desktop path)
- double-click mouse on FONTSMOOTHINGGAMMA enter anything between 150 and 190 hexadecimal.(the Lower the value, the thicker the fonts.)
- close the REGEDIT tool
- LOGOFF and then LOGON
Now all the fonts are very thick & very dark in Chrome Browser.
But we must make sure that ClearType smoothing is enabled in Windows( controlPanel -> personalization -> appearance -> Effects -> ClearType smooth check [ ticked box ] )
OR alternately in RegEdit ...
FONTSMOOTHING=2
FONTSMOOTHINGTYPE=2
FONTSMOOTHINGORIENTATION=1 for LCD-screen, 0 for CRT-screen
( Note: MicrosoftClearTypeTuner minimum GAMMA value is 1000 maximum 2200 decimal, it doesn't let us tune beyond that limit, hence the Registry tweak)
