HTC Peep problem - HD2 General

HTC Peep downloads all tweets, regardless of whether I config it to only download the last 50 tweets in the options menu. Is there any fix for this? It is kind of annoying as it slows down my device significantly when updating...

Yes mine does this too. its a pain in the arse, does anyone know of a way to manually delete the old tweets?

or is there away to get rid of the built in Twitter app and get the sense tab to link to a better one?

Yes this a very annoying problem with no solution so far Peep is basically useless due to this problem!
Id created a thread for this earlier too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618774

That sucks... I guess we'll just have to send HTC an email and hope they will fix it soon.

peep - "account was forbidden to access the twitter service" ?

I'm signed in fine, can view "my profile" and post a "new tweet" but when I try to "update now" it displays the message...
Download Error
The account was forbidden to access the twitter service.

I've tried signing out and in again on the HD2 and checked on twitter.com itself to confirm that "HTC Peep" is approved on the "connections" tab.
Any ideas please?
I have an o2 HD2, rom version 1.43.206.4
do you find the answer?
account was forbidden to access the twitter service
I'm also getting the same error.
I can update post and profile but can't do "update now".
Any help is appreciated.
Mine is HD2 ROM v 1.66.707.1 WWE
Kwanice, apologies for the delayed response, have been away from keyboard.
My issue was due to using a (standard UK keyboard) character in my Twitter password that was accepted via Twitter and web browsers but I can only presume not recognised by HD2/Peep.

lol ok
i think i have a problem because i've created a .reg files to insert automaticaly my account name and password...and it's not really good lol
so i need to erase the twitter account to created a new one..:s
thanks
Twitter has stopped using regular http auth and now uses oauth which Peep (htc twitter app) does not support. So... until whoever makes Peep updates it with support for oauth, you need another twitter app... Simple fact.
Is any Twitter app working? I tried moTweets and PockeTwit and doesnt work...
Peep is outdated and useless, HTC failed to update it.
Is anyone else having problems with the phone in general that started today out of no where? I am, my device is bugging out like it hasnt in months and it has all conincided with the HTC Peep failure, its somehow messing up sense to me and that is creating issues as I navigate all apps in Sense.
My phone wont even boot up now, black screen, think I will have to hard reset. I hate this phone and HTC its a comedy of errors.
If I allow the screen to go black, it wont wake up from sleep now. Great.
I am also having the same issue. I'm with T-Mobile and I've been seeing this error all day today
same here, started today
i dont have any other problems

Go to settings/personalize/Home screen tabs and disable the htc peep tab. If you have it set for auto updates it is going to lock up sense anytime it tries.

this is annoying now im gonna have to write my own app bummer is it probably wont be as nice
Having the same problem... Live in Sweden and run Three as operator..
Got the same problem here, but I was able to use Kinoma Play, going to try find some free programs later.

Got the same here (the netherlands) Did nothing out of the ordinary, just pressed "update now" or whatever it is called in English ("nu bijwerken" in dutch). Doesn't it just go away if i wait a bit?
well for my case: I updated my Tilt 2 with the official ROM update released by HTC a day or two back. Sens UI 2.5 obviously. Worked great, tho a bit sluggy. a couple tweaks fixed that. Peep actually worked till just after midnight (think 1, 2 am; from like 8 or 9 pm when i did the ROM Flash) i started it was having less and less sucess updating to the point that i couldn't download (error messages showing) updated once more by miracle and early afternoon (something like 1 pm today) started showing me that precise message:
Download Error
The account was forbidden to access the twitter service.
Hope HTC or Twitter gets on this because PockeTwit has been giving me problems too lately: communication error and now tells me of incorrect credentials or Network unavailable.

Wow, crazy you mentioned this. Starting late last week, Sense UI started goofing up and freezing on me shortly after turning the phone on, even after rebooting. It was driving me nuts the entire day.
I ended signing out of Twitter and concluded the issue was with twitter. I then ended up deleting the "db" and "cache" folders in the My Device > Temp > TwitEng directory.
I was fine the past few days up until today when I started getting the error in this thread. I again had to delete the "db" and "cache" folders as my Sense UI started goofing up again.
I see that Twitter is now using Oauth instead of http which explains the error. I kinda like Peep so hopefully HTC updates...
For now, I'm using Azurea as my Twitter client which seems to be working okay.
Twitter Client Alternative
Well, so far it is evident that the current Peep is no longer useful... We'll have to wait till HTC releases a patch for it.
Till then any other suggestions for twitter clients that work with the Oauths..
MoTweet worked..but TouchTwit fails..
on my samsgung galaxy S everything it´s working fine, but not on my HD2
On my HTC HD2: Peep not working as mentioned. Is there any indication of HTC updating Peep? Or should we switch to an other twitter app entirely? Too bad though, the Twitter home tab looked awesome.

HTC Tweet

Could any of you new T-mobile owners let us know if the twitter app still has the bug where it never deletes tweets.....rendering it fairly useless.
yes im interested in that too, i would like to see if there is an updated version.. its badly needed.
There is however a fix to manually delete the tweets from time to time.. i do this about 1s a month and it stays fast (dont follow a lot of ppl tho)
Yes i know about the manual delete but its a pain, im noticing slow down after only 4 or 5 days. maybe I should turn auto update off. I have actually ditched it for the time being and am using motweet which is actually very good even the free one (with adverts) however this renders another sense tab useless. Has anyone developed a cab that will allow us to remap the sence tab to a different program?
Same here, made a topic about this a few weeks ago.
Mind telling me the manual method of deleting tweets? I can't seem to find it on this forum... Also, will tweets still remain on the server or would this delete them permanently?

copy from someone else
1. turn off htc sense (I forget how. it's in settings)
2. sync your phone.
3. explore and go through these folders: temp >> twiteng.
4. delete the files in the twiteng folder.

good luck, this will not delete anything from the twitter server, only ur local tweet cache
I wonder how hard it would be for a dev to write a cab that automated the process?

and maybe let that script automatic run according to a schedule.. that'd be nice.
however i dont think someone will make the time to make this since there are few people having this issue..
Thanks jamieeeee, now I see why the workaround is such a pain. It's still doable once in a while though.
yes a shedule would be good, Although i would be happy for it to run every couple of days deleteing everything over 24 hours old.
Have started a thread in the apps forum to see if there is any interest. I cant really understand why there isnt more people having this issue, I can only presume not many win mobile users are twitter users. For me Intergrated twitter was one of the reasons i bought the HD2, was also a little dissapointed that it didnt integrate tweeters with contacts like it does with facebook. to me twitter is a much more obvious social networking platform for mobile than facebook is.
Well that attracted bugger all responces, looks like i will be sticking to motweet.

I'm about to buy one, what do you mean buy this? How does never deleting tweets render it useless?
Can you send them and it posts to the site?

yeah you can send tweets without any problem (at least i can)
the mistake HTC made is not having a maximum number of tweets in the tab.. that means it keeps downloading new one's and never throws out any old one's.. you can do the math.. it gets slower and slower till its unusable

Facebook App... Grr!

Must admit, the Facebook app for the HTC HD2 is pants. Before I had the HTC, I was on Blackberry Storm, and loved the Facebook app, as it used to download my alerts in real time.
But with the HTC HD2 I have to log in each time on the app, and have to refresh the facebook app. Complete rubbish I think.
Anyone know is the Facebook app on the HTC HD2 is going to get any better?
You have an Opera browser and a big screen -make use of it!
Where's the point in using a stupid app for things that are way easier directly in the browser?
I find the app quicker, and more convenient! Well it was on the Blackberry Storm anyway...
hey dude, i know how you feel... i was a bit dissapointed with the facebook app at first but then i waited for a while, i tryed looking for a alternative third party app but nothing was any good, then i found a CAB on here for the new facebook for resistive screen phones, someone had made it work with HD2 and it works great, much better than the old one
i did a review of it on my youtube channel, you should check it out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7dDxLrP2GI
Actually the constant need to log in is a bug. Everytime I flash a ROM, one of the first thing I do is to run the Facebook app, and tick the save login option. After that it never asks for login again....but you'll still have to refresh manually. I'm guessing it's more of a conflict with another installed apps or just general winmo weirdness.
Otherwise, yeah, the apps is pretty pathetic.
FB
Does anyone else have the problem that it saves the pics from Facebook into an album on the device memory, and then when you go into your albums you have tons and tons of albums because each pic is saved as an album?

Im using m.facebook.com for the time being, until HTC sort the facebook app out.

First; there are other people who also have the problem with FB not "saving" the login info.
Do a quick search and see if they've found a solution.
Second; http://touch.facebook.com might be more to your liking..
m.facebook.com is fine for Nokias, but the touch.facebook.com page is made for "iPhone-like" devices like our HD2.

That's why...it works only if you do it before installing too many other apps....so if u ever reflash a ROM, make sure logging into facebook and saving details is one of the first things u do.

Can you tell me where to find this fix, i found the one that requires using the registry editor but there are at least 60 folders with anywhere from 1 to 4 photos in each.
they are only little thumbnails as well
they way i read the registry tweak, it says to input each individual folder in...
The HTC Facebook ALbum hotfix (just installed) does not stop it downloading tiny pics from FB of all your contacts.
As from the HTC site:
restores the ability to view your friends’ photo albums
This suggests its related to privacy settings, and the app's ability to now process that correctly.
(i.e. able to view them online, but app wouldn't allow you to)
Can you point me in the direction of the registry fix for it?
Hi, my available device memory is down to 18mb, and I haven't really stored much there. Could it be due to the Facebook app, which keeps storing the pics in Device Memory? In that case, how do I free up this space?
In HD2 General go to Hints page and do what is sudgested in No:64 than install an App called ClearTemp in the Menu click sellect all and and clean once a day at least.it will take just a few seconds.
Edit::looks on the hint page is not cleare enough".
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
Add a new string: Name – Facebook Cache,
Value – \temp\imagecache
That should be \fbimagecache
and it worked.
Thanks for that.

HTC Peep in new TMO ROM 3.14

Is anyone else having trouble uploading pics to twitpic or twitgoo using HTC peep? Keep getting failures for both sites. I doubt they are both down!
I like this new ROM but this single problem will have me downgrading if it is ROM related

I tried MoTweets during the whole basic auth fiasco, it was nice. but slow as hell to browse thumbnails to post pics, which i do often. That killed it for me. I went back to peep as soon as it started working again. I dont need all the extra stuff in motweets. I just need an efficient quick way to post. and or post pics from the phone. Anyone i deem important enough to keep close tabs on has their tweets sent via SMS
I have tried both twitpic and twitgoo both using and not using the URL shortening service options and nothing is working. When it does seem like it successfully uploads to either service (no error message) there is no URL inserted into the tweet that is being typed. If you load the twitpic or twitgoo sites, the images are not there.
I've a feeling i will be downgrading the firmware this evening after i get off work, unless there happens to be a cab installer for the old version of peep somewhere? I am not sure what version of peep is in this 3.14 rom, I am not seeing an about menu option in HTC peep to get this info.
I have to report that peep is working now for posting images. I have no idea why both twitpic and twitgoo would not be working, unless HTC is passing image uploads though some kind of proxy and said proxy was down/unreachable yesterday.

New Widgets From HTC

Just had a notification that new widgets are available, battery, call mom, coin flip, fake call, notes, quick record, sand timer, tasks, tip calculator, today in history and daily challenge.
A system update would also be nice the same time.
Anyone else have it?
They all been availible for over a week
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Well ever since I bought my DHD I never received a single update so, no and it sucks
Same here no updates at all and htcsense.com flaky at the best of times

Try installing it via HTC Likes - it worked for me there, but not from HTC Hub. Failing that, i'd upload the apk if someone knows where it downloads them to.

htc sence server wont work for me every time :\
