Trying to change user agent on opera to get full web pages, but there's still some sites (such as itv) that insist on giving a useless amount of wap style content. I've tried entering the prefs editor in opera (opera:config) and changing the browser's UA to both firefox and desktop IE, but that doesn't work. Any ideas?

Yes mate - do what you've already done in conjunction with another setting. In User Prefs (in opera:config), make sure that "UAProf URL Enabled" is unticked and save that. Restart Opera and it should have sorted itself for you.

Can you give me a URL that you're having a problem with?
I've got my user agent set to:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; .NET CLR 3.5.21022)

Ah - I assumed you were somewhere within the website before it stopped working correctly.
I've attached a screenshot of mine, which to me looks exactly like it does on my desktop. I can only suggest you check the user agent and other setting I mentioned earlier.
Well, ive changed the spoof id to 3, and unticked the uaprof url, i thought that was all i needed to do. So i need to set that long list of UA params somewhere too then? (the msie .. trident.. etc)

Yeah, I don't change the spoof ID (I'd actually forgotten all about that! lol)
Change the "Custom User-Agent" to the one I gave you (it's just off my desktop's IE)
That should do the trick
Yep thats done it cheers. Just wondering tho, don't those .NET entries need to be set to the version numbers for compact framework?

I don't know if it really matters on our devices, but you could set it to the correct version numbers for what's on your device.
In file explorer, go to the windows folder and find cgacutil.exe - run that and it gives you the version numbers of the .Net frameworks installed on your device.

I've had my Exec a few weeks now and generally am well chuffed however a big problem seems to be it will not log in to my internet banking
Does anyone know how or if it's possible to log in to Abbeys IB?
A friend of mine has no problem with HSBC so I guess it must be Abbey some how.
Anyone got it to work?
I don't bank with Abbey, but if I was to take an educated guess, its most likely because their internet banking website needs a browser that supports Java and I do not think PIE does.
I am with Abbey, I think their site does not recognise the Universal browser (PIE) and so throws up the page you are getting. I seem to remeber seeing a post on XDA-Developers regarding changing the registry to make PIE report itself as a standard IE on a desktop PC, Abbey would think everything is okay and would continue sending you the pages you are meant to see, how PIE handles them is another matter but from memory their site is nothing clever and PIE should be able to handle it okay.
Good luck,
Let me know if you get anywhere
Ok guys, any of you clever so and sos know how to do this?
Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\ key.
Set the default value to "Mozilla/4.0" (Default is "Mozilla/2.0").
Set the "Version" value to "MSIE 5.5" (Default is "MSIE 3.02").
Set the "Platform" value to "Windows NT 5.0" (Default is "Windows CE").

Would that cause any problems with other webpages or would it just ensure you always get the full webpage as in a desktop ie ? Its like when I go to google on my Exec, I always get the cut down pda version.

I believe it would only cause problems where the website you're visiting delivers content based on the user-agent. By making those registry changes, you are basically telling PocketIE to pretend that it's a full version of IE running on Windows XP, so any sites that are optimised for spitting out mobile content would send you the full version (including google; try it and see, you can always change the values back to what they were). If you want to get the PDA interface to google every time, just go to http://www.google.com/pda (or www.google.countrycode/pda ), this works in whatever browser you use.
Hi there,
I've extracted this build from Omnia rom posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2623503
Cab updated
if you have "the specified module could not be found" at startup, re-download cab here, those now include ImmVibe.dll.
Install into main memory:
http://rapidshare.com/files/144273883/OBX-Opera_9.5.Build1957.WWE.cab.zip.html
Hardcoded intro Storage card:
http://rapidshare.com/files/144274089/OBX-Opera_9.5.Build1957.UC.SD.WWE.cab.zip.html
Hardcoded intro Carte de stockage (french language):
http://rapidshare.com/files/144274261/OBX-Opera_9.5.Build1957.UC.SD.FR.cab.zip.html
Enjoy ;o)
----------------- Install ---------------------------------------------------------------------
if you have previous opera, be sure to uninstall it, and delete every file and Reg as this build changed a lot compare to usual update, the default Opera9 folder is now expected to be in Application Data, where previous use to be in windows, the skin and other file changed also, and Opera seem to be very sensitive...it didn't worked for me at first try... so Clean your previous opera before install... ;o)
----------------- User Agent Modif -----------------------------------------------------------
Well this build have some default value coded to Samsung i900, but chance, we can override them via register:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\UA]
"UAMode"=dword:00000001 0: Mobile 1 : Desktop (control by the setting/advanced in opera)
"User Agent"="SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 Opera 9.5" ---> this is the user agent when identify as mobile
"UAD"="SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)" ---> this is the user agent when identify as DESKTOP
When set to identify as Desktop, if Opera don't find "UAD" key, it will send "SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)" as user agent so to change this, create the UAD key and set it to whatever string you want.
now, in OPERA, go to setting/advanced, and choice identify as desktop.
paste this into url (whitout http
javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)
You should see the string value of the "UAD" key
here the .reg to identify as IE7 browser....
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\UA]
"UAD"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0b; Windows NT 6.0)"
"User Agent"="HTC/1.0 Opera 9.5"
Thanks! Testing now....
not working for me, just flash over to new rom, so everything was clean, goes from the startup scrren it then goes to "the specified module could not be found"
Error message title is OperaL if that helps at all.
missing module...

Wow if you press and hold on the middle of the right side. A zooming option pops up like in the google andriod browser.
Ok I downloaded this version and it seems to be way faster taht the 1938 build, however I have 2 problems.
1. This browser still does nto recognize the HTC XT9 keyboard
2. I cannot stream videos...youtube doesnt work. when i click to watch a video the streaming media player opens on my touch but i get an error stating "failed to find network".
any ideas????

For your XT9 keyboard, i have no idear... i tried to keep the install as close as possible to the omnia setup. You may look at an older build which worked fine, check the opera.ini file, there is probably some key there you have to copy them into your current opera.ini file and file to the proper folder.
About streaming media player, it's not related to opera i think, i got same trouble, but it's a bug or something in streaming media player, if you use activesync to connect to the internet, it doesn't work, try when you are connected over wifi, it should be fine...
good luck
youtube isnt working..
no video shows up
the keyboard is not a big deal cause it will get ironed out in the future..as for using wifi lol i dont have that feature
youtube works perfect for me, and better then 1938 ever did.
Actual article present on my blog here.
I posted earlier about how to access the Mobile TV on HTC Touch HD on my blog here. But later I found out that method as an inadequate one to continue in normal usage. So I did some more R&D at home around this and found the perfect method of doing so !
So here you go now.
My HTC Touch HD has, L26 v9.0 WWE ROM and you need following software before proceeding further.
* AdvancedConfig – for doing the configuration changes on Internet Explorer User agent
* PHM registry editor – for making the changes to rtsp default player
Vodafone Live! runs primarily on S60 based devices and I had an excellent experience of it running on my earlier Nokia N95. So you need to try and ‘fool’ the system at Vodafone to assume your phone as a N95 instead of Internet Explorer running on a Windows Mobile phone. To do so, you need to change the ‘mobile’ user agent string of your Internet Explore browser to the one used for N95. Use the following steps to change the user agent string.
1. Run AdvancedConfig
2. Expand Internet Explorer option
3. Click on User Agent custom base
4. Change the value as follows
Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95/11.0.026; Profile MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413
Once you are done with this, to ensure that the change has worked, Open the internet explorer browser and go to the website http://www.useragentstring.com. Your browser should recognize your device as N95 using Mozilla Safari browser.
If this happens, then you have passed the first step!
Now go to Start –> Settings –> Connections –> Connections –> Advanced –> Select networks
Select “Contract WAP” as the default network and you are good to go.
Just to test if this works.. try accessing http://live.vodafone.co.uk via your Internet Explorer browser (in a Mobile mode, not Desktop mode) and see if it works for you.
It worked for me and I hope it would work for you.
However, I had one issue with HTC Streaming Media that the rtsp link would not play. Hence I had to go and change the default RTSP player to WMPlayer.exe by modifying the registry.
If you too are having similar issue, then open PHM registry editor and access the key \HKCR\rtsp\Shell\Open\Command. Change the default value from StreamingPlayer.exe to WMPlayer.exe “%1” and you should be able to view the streaming from your Windows Media player.
Try the above steps and let me know how it goes…
What .. no reply? :-(
Hey!
So, I have done exactly as you said, but no luck... the User Agent does not change. To be mentioned: I am using Dutty's XTREME v2.1. Perhaps the User Agent Code is stored in another place, not where AdvancedConfig expects to find it...

Dunno much about Dutty's ROM. I had it earlier and the above process did not work for me there .. probably because the Internet Explorer browser in there has a hard coded useragentstring in browser.dll
I tried the above on L26 ROM and it worked .. in fact to my surprise ... !
Hello!
Just an update. Everything works fine with Opera Mobile 6.5; there it is easyer to change the User Agent String. I replaced it with the string you gave and ... everything is working fine. Couldn't convince IEM6 to work, though! Ah, well... the procedure how to change to a Custom Agent String in Opera is described here: "In opera:config, User Perfs there is a setting called “Custom User-Agent”.". Good luck!
One question: where can I find this browser.dll in my device? Oh, and the quality of the live stream from VodafoneLive is lousy!
Thanks ...
I dunno about the browser.dll, supposedly in the Windows folder somewhere. I suggest you not to try and play with that, otherwise you will corrupt your IE forever.
I tried on IE first and it worked, so never bothered to try on Opera. Kept opera separately and in tact for web browsing ..

Hi guys,
is it possible to change the default Browser (T-Mobile web'n'walk [Opera9]) to self-installed Opera10?
Could not find any possibility...
thanks!
No ideas? Damn T-Mob branding. No ROM Update available
I don't have Opera 10 installed, so can't give you exact instructions, but there's an executable in the windows folder called OperaL. This is what manilla runs when you open internet explorer from the internet tab.
You need to replace that with the executable for opera 10. It's also possible that there are associated files and/or folders with Opera 10. They may or may not need to be copied into the windows folder too. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I don't have Opera 10 as I prefer to keep the ability to pinch-to-zoom.
Incidentally, this has nothing to do with T-Mobile's branding. An off-the-shelf SIM free HD2 (like mine) uses Opera 9 from the internet tab too. It just isn't branded as T-Mobiles.
Thanks for your answer.
If this would be a "normal" Opera 9, it would be OK and no Problem. But every time I'll start the Browser by clicking the icon in the internet tab, the "web and walk"-Opera-Browser asks me "Would you really go online?" and I have to tap "yes". This is really ugly and so I want to replace it by another browser - in this case opera 10.

I understand - that would get on my tats as well! If you prefer Opera 10, try the above. If you'd like to keep Opera 9, I could supply you with the exe off my phone and it may get rid of the message. Don't know for sure though.

also check "HKLM\Software\Opera\Defaults\FirstTimeConnectConfirmationMsg" and set that to 0.

Thanks for this registry hack, but both of them are set to 0 by default. very ugly.
@johncmolyneux thanks, but my colleague has a hd2, too, but unbranded. he will send me his operal.exe and then we'll test if it's running.
It's pretty easy to bypass the MessageBox. The Opera (or Web'n Walk) Shortcut in the startmenu points not to \windows\OperaL.exe but \windows\BrandedBrowser.exe... so simply edit the shortcut located in \windows\startmenü\programme with totalcommander or something.
As Far as the Internet Tab in Manila goes... i don't have a clue. i searched the registry, searched several xml files in \windows....
YES, DID IT!
Thank you, operative1.
I've searched the registry for "BrandedBrowser" and:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\UseBrandedBrowser set from 1 to 0 and look - Opera10 is opening. Now i just have to change the Icon - but at the moment i'm really happy that the Shortcut is right!
Thank you all guys!
Great. Looking long time for it.
Thanks a lot.
idephili
THANK YOU! It fit's!
No hack/edit needed!
If you open Opera 9 and go to Menu/Settings/Advanced and uncheck Set Opera as default browser then exit. When you install Opera 10 it asks at that time if you'd like to set it as your default browser select yes and your done. No registry hacks or anything else needed.
Hello everyone, I wonder if there is another version of facebook. But I'm pretty sure he is not in.
I think everyone agrees with me that this version is totally horrible. Why Facebook is for Windows phone so poorly made? Compared to that of android or iphone! I am ready to create a group for those who are prepared to 0.5 dollars per person for the dévellopers trying to create a true version of facebook for windows phone like android and iphone! Personally i am ready to invest in another version of facebook
What do you think? Thank you everyone, I hope I was clear

there is a never version of the facebook app that is available, for free, from ms marketplace. It's versioned 1.2 as opposed to v1.1 that comes preinstalled but i do agree with the other posters, Use opera, but you may need to change the user agent string in the newer versions to get the full site instead of the mobile one (i certainly had to)

To change the Custom User Agent field in Opera's config.
Open Opera and goto the address bar
Enter opera:config (make sure there is no http etc)
Scroll down to User Prefs and open the section
Scroll down to Custom User Agent
Remove everything in the box and enter the following string:
HTC_HD2_T8585 Opera/9.7 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
Then scroll to the bottom of the list and there will be a save button, click it.
That works for me, I think the important part for whether its mobile or desktop version is in the brackets...
