While this may seem like a simple quick "YES" answer, I know there are some differences - because I've unlocked MANY MyTouch(es) - and never seen one NOT find the code to unlock.
This Fender would NOT unlock, that's how I ended up with it.
I'm a long time iPhone user, and want to dabble with Android - so this is my chance. I'd like to root it, and see what's the fuss. But want to make sure it's possible before I try.
Do you want to root it or unlock it? There's a difference between the two.
If you want to unlock it, just buy the unlock code or wait 3 months if you bought it with T-Mobile and they will give you the unlock code so you can use it with any provider that uses a sim card.
If you want to root it, there's two threads that I have seen that I have seen in the development forum that give you a step by step procedures.
Cursordroid has even released a Fender rom with root for when you decide to do this.
any chance of grabbing that music app from it? Looks sweet...
I want to root it, even tho I don't know what advantages that would have yet. I'm an iPhone guy ... have been for a couple years now, so I wanted to see what Android was about now.
What are the real advantages of rooting? (sorry - I know this is major noob stuff)
Everything to get you started about rooting and unlocking is a stickied thread in the "Android Development" sub-forum.
I would not judge Android 1.6 too harshly. Remember that it is not the latest build. For a fairer comparison against the iPhone OS 3, Nexus One's 2.1 or Droid's 2.01 is better.
Of course, you can always install a custom 2.1 ROM like Manup456's, but right now, all Eclair ROMs are a bit buggy, and the GUI is not as smooth as can be.
According to what i'm reading, the fender edition is new hardware - and there is no advantage to rooting yet anyway... because there are no compatible roms yet.

Was wondering if 2.2 was out yet and if it was possible to root it. Just got my first Android device and was wondering what roms and stuff were.
Yes, the source was released over a weeks ago, the devs are working on it atm, there's no 100% working builds yet though. Cyanogen Mod 6 should be out very soon, which is what I'm waiting on. If you really can't wait you can find perbuilt version of Cyan's source from hus git repo, though as I said it's not 100%. If you're MyTouch is a 1.2 (has a 3.5mm headphone jack) you'll need to flash a 32A kernel after you flash that build, the package can be found in the CM5 page in Dream Android Development.
Well Normally i Would tell you to read this

but somehow the link for the WIKI is down. Anyways you have to find out what version of the magic you have (32A or 32b) there are a lot of other factors to find out if you can root your new phone (such as a SPL, you cant root perfected ones, but dont worry you can change your SPL) And yes there is a build of 2.2 android out on the magic but its not very suitiable for daily use. Although 2.1 is more than amazing on this phone and there are many stable versions.
Hey there, I've recently bought a Nexus 7 with the latest os already installed on it, which has made it run slower with every passing day.
I did a bit of googling and found that a lot of people had issues with their Nexus 7s after they upgraded to the latest os.
So now I'm wanting to downgrade to the previous os and I read in an article on Androidcentral that said getting a custom rom would be the best way to go to (I'm guessing) either get a previous os or get a streamlined version of the one I already have.
So I need help finding the best rom for my purposes, I'm very new to this sort of thing, in terms of roms, flashing and downgrading os and such so any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'd love to be able to use this tablet St something other than the speed of smell lol.
@EddieHades welcome to the community. First of all it's always the best method using a custom ROM, but make sure you have unlocked bootloader. If you don't have unlock bootloader then you've to do it first, make sure you've backed up all your data. Second choice if you want to stick with stock rom. Then just go to this link and download your preffered stock ROM as per your device, make sure you've downloaded proper images. Then download Nexus Root Toolkit and flash that image and you're good to go.

How to root non common phones get a custom recovery and custom rom
Hi guys
It is just recently when I've started learning more and more about the Android and the various things you can do with it. (This can be long so you may just want to skip to the last line) Until recently I've only used my phone only for it's basic functionality.
But I'm nowhere near a developer and I really want to learn more.
I have this device called Infocus M535 Android 6.0 (which is obviously not a popular device I'm sure a lot of you haven't even heard about it). And I just regret buying it. Cause I have tried a lot of rooting method but nothing seems to work for me. I've tried kingoroot, kingroot as well. Then I learned that you don't necessarily need to have root access to install a custom recovery like twrp but then there is no official version of it available. I've seen many people YouTube having twrp on this device, I tried asking them but no response from them.
I cannot even think about getting a custom rom for this thing because I know nobody is working on that. And tbh I don't even care about getting a custom rom. All I need is a way to root this thing.
I know this thing is old and I should get a new device but Please please please help me because I just can't afford getting a new phone.
Any help Will be really appreciated

What exactly is the benefits of unlocking the bootloader and rooting the YB1-X90L?
There aren't any custom roms that work with it, and from I can tell you can't uninstall any of the junk apps either.
Installing windows 10 on the android version is useless since not everything works (probably because of the bios being different between the two versions)
I already know that the source code is available, but the Stock Rom for Nougat (as far as I can tell) is not available. So there is no way to start developing a custom rom without having lots of experience with that.
So what's the point of going through all that trouble (which actually isn't that much effort I know)? The modding community for this device is completely dead from what I can see. Which kinda sucks since this tablet would be amazing if it could be loaded up with a custom rom. It's specs are far from low end, and seems to offer some really nice performance.
I really want to pick one of these up it's gonna be possible to mess around with custom ROM's....
There is no point buying this device anymore. I was pretty much hyped of because it really is a nice tablet. But for some reasons unknown it failed at XDA. I have mine Rooted, just to remove câncer apps and adware.
I see there are dozens of obscure looking roms under the ROM section, that's okay this is an ancient device. It's no s5.
Since I am very very new to this community I am wondering, which of these is the most stable, well developed and preferably privacy respecting? the idea was going to be roll no gapps and install microg.
Was hoping to have root too, but I can live without it, as long as myphone is not selling my bussy to data brokers every 30 minutes.

it all depends what bootloader version you are on. All roms posted were for Rev4 version bootloaders. There is no installing AOSP roms on these devices so no micro no not having google apps sorry. Root can be obtained Rev 1-10 or Rev 1- A, Limited root can be obtained on Rev11/B bootloader
