Hi guys,
my fresh resetted Touch HD with TouchFlo 3d (1.3.37295.0_1630.38) has a big problem. After a short time (like when i charge my battery or something) the manila.exe CPU usage goes up to 100%. And then the HD will be very slow and when i start the task manager i see a hopping cpu usage from 50-95%
I don´t know what i doing wrong (the HD Tweaker i set all the TF3d features to default after i change some settings) i installed kalos tatoo theme and have the my today page running (but when i disable the today page and restart this issue is there too)
Did someone know what i can do?

Use your task manager to see if you have any apps running in the backgroun. Also, try using CleanRAM
This happened to me today, just after i had deleted a load of old texts. I backed them all up with myphone, and deleted all the text off the phone, i had about 300. manila was back to normal without a restart!
Manila.exe CPU usage Problem 95% - 97%
I am still having this issue. I just got this phone about 2 weeks ago. The only thing I have installed on this is a application that puts the option to close programs like the old htc touch pro (from HTC). The only task I am currently showing running in the background is Activesync which is not normally running. If I set the task manager to Process mode, then i can see the entire list of processes and they all look to be correct. I am showing manila.exe taking up 95 - 97% cpu and it crashes a lot. I would really like to know how to get to the bottom of this or if anyone knows of any error logs (or debugging methods) I could check then that would be most helpful.
Jeff
Having the same problem since a week.
It's interesting that the high CPU load from manila.exe stops when another application goes to the foreground.
Mostly it happens after a soft reset.

Hi.
When using my Diamond I noticed some processes don't disappear when they should. They fill up memory. Either you kill 'em with some Task Manager, or you soft reset.
Don't wanna SR or kill processes manually? Let my thing do it for you!
NoTSR is a very very simple program which kills some predefined processes, based on my experience with Diamond.
Source code (eVC++ 4) is for you to use and modify whatever you want. However, it would be nice if you gave me some credit if using it!
Have fun!
p. s. Sorry for the icon.
If anyone is wondering, this is what it kills off (copied straight from the source code):
"Opera9.exe", // everything still loads well
"OperaPreL.exe", // after killing them
"pword.exe", // for some reason Pocket Word leaves its process even after leaving
"CommManager.exe", // other Office apps seem to be fixed
"AudioManager_eng.exe", // last ones are opened by manila for quicker loading of tabs.
"AlbumSearcher.exe" // killing AudioManager stops music and rewinds current track.
I keep getting a "Can't list processes" dialog box when I launch the app. I tried placing the NoTSR.exe within in the extracted NoTSR subdirectory and also outside the subdirectory.

I can confirm that.
What did we wrong? Do we have to place it in a special folder, like windows?
It worked for me, but my phone was very sluggish after running the app and I had to soft reset to bring it back to par.
Thanks for starting this development, there is definitely a gap to be filled by it, I use oxios hibernate and a task manager to finish off opera .exe, this is much easier to use and your icons not so bad either!

Thanks for positive feedback. I wonder why th sluggish reaction. Loading of opera as well as some TF3D tabs will for sure be slower, but whole phone is weird. After all, it just kills and leaves (see src if unsure). I use NoTSR myself and I got no problems at all. Maybe you could test it again and if it slows down show the list of processes?
@others: try using the app with rest closed. It should work in any folder; I keep it in my docs and launch via Start.
Thanks again for interest!
same error message for me. sprint touch pro with jd6.1 rom
I can't reproduce that error to analyze and fix it, so I post new version which tells you what went wrong. Try with it.
trying now

OK, so I've been using the NoTSR app for a couple of days and I can't reproduce the lag that I had when I first ran it, odd. I think it may be something to do with the fact that when I first ran it it was from within file explorer, after using it I could not get explorer to open up again properly. Now I have put a shortcut in my windows/start up/programs folder and I am running it from my start menu everything seems just fine and is all working as it should with no sluggish side effect, so thanks again kosherpig for the very useful app.
SKTools Lite (free) comes with a small program called "Free up ram." During SKTools Lite install, it will tell you something about your windows version, just click through that and let it install.
Once it's installed, go to your programs page and you'll see it there: "Free Up RAM". Just run it once. It will look like nothing is opening, but its because it's working in the background. You'll get a message box very shortly telling you how much ram (in KB) you freed up.
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_lite.html
I use it all the time. Brings me from 45 -50 down to 35-40. Lowest I've seen was 32%.
Our programs are slightly different. My one doesn't free RAM by itself; it closes processes which won't close by a "close all" command. And NoTSR is not resident (after all its name is No Terminate-Stay-Resident ). Its goal is to be as small as possible, also in term of occupied disk space (~9kB now). Maybe this SKTools and NoTSR could be used in conjunction to free up even more RAM?
And, I also got the error message 2 times.
1st when I was running FM radio.
2nd when I was at the Music tab.
I solved them:
1st by closing FM radio and invoking NoTSR. Everything went OK.
2nd switched to the Home tab. NoTSR failed again. Waited some seconds, ran again. OK now.
Solution: fails? Shut everything using the HTC task manager, go to today/home screen, and invoke NoTSR after some time. I can say the behavior is really weird, since my code doesn't depend on running apps.
However, I run NoTSR everytime after using Opera. I got that error 2 times in my whole usage.
Anyways. Thanks for all responses
I find "Oxios Hibernate" frees up more ram than sk tools "free up ram" does, it is also free, but must be run manually, a useful addition to any start menu.
I'm getting about 10 mb back with NoTSR after opera browsing, "free up ram" or "hibernate" practically nothing back after opera browsing. Basically if you use opera then this is a "must have".
A small update.
If you know when Oxios Hibernate works and NoTSR fails, check this exe out. I tried to contain the Hibernate in it.
This version is bugged.
Please use version from 1st post.
If you ran this version already perform a soft reset.
Sorry for inconvinience.

it lowers your memory usage by 10%???
To me it goes from 63% to 61%...

thats frustrating...
Hi there, trying to use this app I'm getting the same error as others...
"Can't list processes: The parameter is incorrect. (#0)"
Task Manager is empty, I've tried leaving it on the home screen for 20 secs and running it but still the same problem.
Any ideas? I'd really like to get this working as Dutty 3.1 does appear to suffer from this memory problem.
EDIT.... OK, did a reset and it's working fine. I'll play with it over the next day or so, and fingers crossed Dutty 3.1 will be good enough for me as I don't need YouTube.
EDIT2... Worked for a while, now has the same problem as earlier.
Are you using the version form 1st post?
If not, please use it.
By the way, something is really wrong... AFAIK "Invalid parameter" has error code 87, 0 is "success". I've looked at program code to see where I could mess up memory, but I saw no such places. Help with finding this bug (you've got the source) would be very appreciated.
hi kosherpig
can you add a settings file where we can put our personal process to stop?
I've try to modify the source but I'm not able to compile it

Hi Kosherpig, I am using the version from the 1st post.
I'm happy to help finding the bug, but not sure what to do here! I THINK it stopped working after I used TomTom7, but can't be sure.
It's only 1635 and it's down to 16% battery already (I think this is a problem with Dutty 3.1), so I don't want to do lots of tests. However, when I'm home and charging it, I'll try each app individually until I pin point which one "causes" the problem.
Does this help? Anything else you want me to try?
Hi kosherpig, getting on great with NoTSR now, I just have one small idea that it would be nice to show the memory stats in the pop up dialogue in a similar way to oxios hibernate. Unless of course this would significantly affect the size and speed of the app, in that case I think it is easy enough to check on the memory usage other ways with a couple of quick taps.
Hello,
i already posted this in some other thread. But here i go again maybe we get some more information from this thread.
When i made a cold reset, the CPU load of my Hero is about 10% (or lower) when measuring with "System Monitor" tool available from the market. Hero is scrolling quite smoothly as well.
After some time using the device i notice that scrolling through the Sense and the "All programs" list gets noticably slower and when i check back with system monitor i notice that CPU load is constantly high at around 30-40% and won't drop down again.
I already tried closing all programs including sense using TasKiller and Advance Task Manager, but neither one does the trick - the CPU load stays at this level until i make a hard reset of the device again.
Now it would be interessting to find out which application/process is causing this is it's also a heavy battery drain for the Hero.
this is actually encouraging news. this means the speed issues can most likley be fixed with new firmware release. or when donut gets put onto the hero. As I have heard that donut has lots of performance tweaks.
The biggest offender seems to be the HTC Widgets. I removed the people widget and the clock (after it the weather feed stopped working) after hearing suggestions and now my Hero is running blazingly fast. The only widgets I have now are the original android clock, the mini calendar and the large music widget.
People have been recommending NOT to use process managers such as taskiller to stop programs because not only can stopping the wrong apps cause problems (stop "clock" and your alarms won't go off, for example) but also it seems that Android is fairly intelligent with regards to process management and can handle it better by itself. You won't get much (if any) speed back by killing processes.
Yes that was also my suspicion - stopping apps might actually cause more (or even this one) problems than it solves.
But thanks for the hint with the clock, i already encountered this twice and came late to work
I removed any task killer software now, but even then i just noticed that i get the 30%+ constant CPU load phenomenon.
I suspect it has something to do with the market app or the installation of software as it seems it's happening right after that sometimes.
Hi,
Just writing because i experience my Tattoo device to be extremely slow reacting. I have used it for 14 days now and to begin with it reacted fast but now it is very slow when touching widgets, scrolling in contacts, opening apps and so on. Has anyone got some advice? I have added some widgets and apps from Market, but could this really be enough already to slow device this much?? (It acts as my old HTC Touch GSM with WM6, which should say a lot).
Regards
Anders
Do you pwer cycle your phone regularly, and try downloading taskiller if you havent already. My tattoo is very speedy, but its running a wwe rom instead of a carrier one.
Task Killer
Yes,
Task Killer is the perfect app for speeding up the tattoo.
Make sure to enable "Kill All" when screen is turned off
Also ensure to add applications such as clock or music in the ignore list so that it does not kill it.
If clock is not added to the ignore list, then Alarm will not go off. Hope you get the picture
Prasath
What is the real name of task killer with settings for kill tasks when screen is turned off?
And are we shure it's real necessary? Try to read this article
I have use Task Killer.. yes, it is very good app. it can improve battery life, can speed up. But my morning alarm never ring again after using this.
And one more question, why all android apps are consuming so much system resources.. I mean all of them always try to run in the background even when I do not require them consuming so much system resources, like RAM and battery??

If you don't exclude the alarm's process, it's normal...
First let me say this is the first issue I've had to date with my HD2. As a die hard win mobile advocate, I love it and it has exceeded expectations at every turn. Today however, I seem to have a problem with HTC Sense. it will not Launch correctly. it hangs on the Launching Sense splash. the Home button is not working. the Start button (hard and soft) is working , but the display freezes anytime i do anything. for instance, i can press the Task Manager shortcut i put on my start menu, and lauch the task manager, but if i minimixe with the X, the x just disappears and the header changes from task manager to start, but the screen is left displaying the the task manager and nonworking buttons (more like a screenshot)
I'm considering restetting to factory, but thought i'd see if there was a way to reinstall sense first (if anyone might agree, thats worth trying first)
Can I reinstall HTC Sense? (without it working properly now)
Is this worth a try?
many thanks, love the forum

have you installed anything recently? if that is the case, try uninstalling that, soft reset and then see if sense leaunches properly. As for reinstalling sense, theres a cab floating around, but its huge...dont know if it will work for you or not as ive never tried it myself
heres the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/401944993/bigboss_Manila_2.5_2016_full.cab.html
you need to install sdcerts first for the above cab to install. it can be found here
http://www.mediafire.com/?1mmddxz2yjm
good luck!
WOW!!!
MINE DID THE VERY EXACT SAME THING Monday night. I think it was something to do with a game that I must have installed from marketplace a few minutes before it happened. One of the free XIM games i think, or maybe the bartender recipes free app. I uninstalled almost everything and soft reseted about 10 times, nothing. Sense will work for about 30-60 seconds after a reset but then all of a sudden stops working. Leaving that last screen that was open displaying with no responses to anything other then start and end keys. WTF happened??
after a reboot, quickly go and disable the sense from home setting from the setting tab before it locks up. I did that and it is working fine with Windows default or even SPB Mobile shell. Sense is fried though.
Nate
any other ideas peeps?

Follow up, I think it may have been an error with Twitter or HTC PEEP. I was looking around for the Peep app to see if it would run outside of sense and saw the HTC folder in the Windows (windows\htc\twitter\files) folder and found an executable Twitter app.exe. I launched it and it asked if I wanted to log out of twitter, i said yes and then later I turned on Sense and it has worked ever since.
Related??? Dont know.
but I am up and running again. I will report back if it happens again.
ok, everything is still running fine. What I did after the Sense crash.
installed SPB Mobile shell 3.5.5
tried sense a couple more times, failed each time.
Looked for and found Twitter app.exe, launched and logged out of twitter.
tried sense again, worked.
logged back into twitter
Unisntalled SPB mobile shell
No problems to note. Everythign is working as it should.
Running the latest Stock Tmobile rom as well.
seems like this thread has not had any activity lately, does that mean that the OP is not having issues now???
most probably it's not a matter of twitter app. i've never used it, was not logged in and sense still did break down, hangs while "Launching HTC Sense...". got energy ROM, happened for the second time, dunno why am tired of restoring to manufacturer defaults and wiping my device twice a year
Hey guys,
Just wondered if any of you have severe lagging problems at times, where i press to call someone but it takes up to 4 - 5 minutes to actually respond, or perhaps never responds untill i apply a soft reset.
I also seem to have noticed these occurrences happen when the battery symbol goes down a bar. I think that as soon my 4 bars becomes 3 i encounter some lag and general sluggishness on the device...
Sorry if this has already been covered in the forums, any help will be appreciated!
Dave
hey dude.
there are lots of lagging issues with windows mobile devices.... thats one of them main factors that keep windows mobile so unpopular.
im not sure how familiar you are with windows mobile OS... but if youre only learning, i can tell you that hitting the 'x', 'back' and 'home' buttons will not exit a program... it will just minimise it.... leaving the program running in the background, consuming all your resources (RAM).
the way to close all the apps that are running in the background is to go to:
start > settings > system > task manager
close all running tasks (similar to PC).
Im not sure if this is the cause of you device being slow, but it might be.
let me know how you go.
cheers.

Dutty's task manager ?
not too sure what duttys task manager is all about... im afraid i have never used it. the task manager i was referring too is the standard windows mobile one.
there are task managers and then there are task managers.
some task managers manage your tasks (pick up some milk on way home, take out garbage sunday night... those kinds of tasks - Outlook tasks).
other task managers (the one that will save your RAM), operate similiar to the task manager on your PC.
Cheers for the replies!
I think have installed that task manager (the one in the top right corner with a drop down application list) and that works a treat.
It's not a HUGE problem as I'd say it's fine 90% of the time. I've just been caught off guard a couple of times where i need to use my phone urgently and it just doesn't respond!
Would clearing up some space on the device smoothen it out? i have about 50MB left free
Cheers
Dave
Ive encounted this problem before. Ive flashed new roms + radios etc nothing seams to work it just sorted itself out over time.
try a new radio though think that helped out alot
