How much data do you use? - Hero CDMA General

Hey guys, I just got my bill for my first month of using my hero on sprint. I ended up using 2,542,507 KB, I pretty much just watch youtube on my phone all day at work. I was wondering if this a lot? Will this get sprint upset with me? How much data do you normally do in a billing cycle?

I usually use close to or just above 1GB on a monthly basis. However, I did use 4.6GB once with no issues from Sprint. As long as you stay under 5GB you should have no issues. Though some people have reported going well over that with no problems.

I use around 1GB each month.
Home internet is another question...

About 2.5 gb here.

i would like to know something like this as well cause i used about 7 gb last month as my phone(tether) is my primary internet source!

I also got my fist bill. I just used about 180M. I only use google map on my way and watch some youtube videos and browser internet. when i am home, i use wifi. I think I'll try to use more next month.lol

As of now I'm at 2,144,456 kb. My plan starts over on the 12th.
Edit: Oh, and that 5gb cap is for the data cards, not phones.

Sprint site says I use approximately 6 gb

i am almost to 1.6 gb so far this month. been using iheartradio quite a bit at work. sure beats the data i used to pull down on my instinct lol.

I hit about 20GB last month.
Pushing about 5 this month.

lol I just got my bill and I used over 10gb and my wife's phone used almost 6. so I was wondering if they would get pissy about that as well.

I would not push the limits for a third month. Might get a letter from Sprint dropping you for excessive data use. Just be careful. I know it says unlimited....but they can terminate your contract. Just like if you roam too much. I think they base it off a 3 month period for data whether or not you are abusing the unlimited plan.

Yall are some lightweights. I used 7.1gigs the first month and 23 gigs the second. Absolutely no tethering involved except for 400 mb the first month. I'm gonna shoot for 25 gigs this month. I wish sprint would send me a letter so i can frame it! Unlimited = unlimited.

20 gb and nothing from sprint...nice

You're the lightweight
I hit 48 GB about 2 months ago when I had my Diamond and nothing at all from Sprint.
20ish last month, 15 so far this month.

Wow, I'm tethered for the first time and looked down adn saw I was at 46MB used and thought I should probably disconnect..then I saw this thread. Holy cow...I only use 380MB last month, I don't know how you guys are going into the tens of gigs each month! Glad to see though my little 100mb tonight isn't going to be a problem..

I'm hitting tens of gigs by using my phone as my primary internet source.
I enjoy video games and movies.

Post up your Data usage

I was just browsing around on Sprint.com and found this neat usage graph that I found quite interesting. What does yours look like with your $10 premium Unlimited Data plan?

I can't find that graph. What menu is it under?
EDIT: Never mind. Found it!
Mine was around 6.5 gig but I've gone Wireless at work and other places and now 2.5 as an average
Wow, the average use for my wife and I together is about 1GB but we tend to stick with WiFi most of the time.
Sprint Hotspot for free is a large part of the spiking graph! lol
*Edit to find the graph I was under the My Account Tab - right sidebar - Analyze My Plan - See your usage trends - Data tab
The three of us didnt even make it to 1gb... lol all though our usage did double from november to december haha.

Before I set up wifi in my house I was pulling around 5 to 6 gigs, now im averaging around 2.
Got my Evo in Sep I believe
I have 1 gig... except it's all roaming. That lil prl change is marvellous.
i have no home internet where i live but i do live in a sprint 3g area. got my phone on june 26th and used 8-10gb a month until november when it dropped to 5gb. i tether and download a 100mb or so of podcasts a day. thank god for unlimited data. i work for at&t now and refuse to ditch my evo because of it, besides the fact that they don't have any good android phones.
last month about 5 gigs... lot of various gingerbread rom downloading
Unlimited Data is pretty sweet, I am curious if Sprint would eventually say how the hell did you use that many GBs of data in a month? Over 13 is not enough I guess haha
When I had my Hero I was pulling around 600MB per month. I did have one month where I pulled just shy of 2GB. In October I upgraded to the Evo. I immediately ramped up to 3.5GB to 5GB per month. Awesome.
got mine on july 27 and only me how many gigs is that if anyone knows

Wtf just happened????

I went to check my data usage for the month on the My Verizon app, and it said that I had over 117 TEREABYTES of data this month. I saw someone post something like this here a while ago. Does anyone know what happened?
I don't even think that amount is possible over 3g in a month.
Is Verizon going to come to my house and rape me or something?

Actually this month I have not tethered at all. This is quite strange. I stream music with Pandora but that has only gotten me to around 4-5 gb a month
You can't get to 117 terabytes through tethering. It's impossible. Do the math; 117 terabytes in one month would require downloading @ 360 megabits (or 45 megabytes) per second, 24 hours per day, for 30 days.
You can't even copy data to/from your SD card on your phone through a USB cable that fast, lol. It's clearly a mistake, you may want to call Verizon before their computer automatically sends you a bill for more than the GDP of our entire country.

I did not read it incorrectly. I took a screenshot using shootme but when I try to post it, it says the file format is not supported.
Anyway the amount of data in KB is: 126055582136.3 if you do the math, it comes to around 117 TB.
I'll try to find a way to show you the screenshot so you can see for yourself

That's pretty funny, and you're reading it correctly. I think their system might be tallying all the use for some corporate account (like Boeing or some crap) on yours alone, haha.
Something else kinda weird: I went and put the data usage widget on my homescreen and it said I only used around 5.3gb so it may just be the app

Data throttled down; new bill cycle and I'm still throttled?

I guess I exceeded my monthly allowance of 5GB just shy of the end of the billing cycle. Well yesterday marked the last day of the billing cycle and today starts the new one. I'm still only getting 10-20kbps (not kb/s). I talked to tech support and they are doing "research" on my line. Is there something I can do? I don't want to wait 72 hours for them to do this "research."
If they can slow me down so quickly, I would expect them to speed me back up quickly. What gives?

What service provider do you use? I know last month people have been suing AT&T for throttling "unlimited" data plans but you have a case as well: you signed a contract stating you get 5 GB at certain speeds each month. However I hope they didn't have some footnote in the contract that says they are allowed to do "research" while they throttle down your data.
I think if you have the conviction to go ahead with this and have the necessary time, see what kind of legal action you can take. People have been winning large sums of money lol.
You wouldn't need to hire a lawyer or anything I believe. Just head over to your local courthouse. But maybe if you have a lawyer friend you can talk to him about how to properly proceed.
I'm on T-Mobile. They slowed me down so much that I cannot even use navigation or maps. The tech support lady was shocked at my speed test results too. They slowed me down sooooo much and I'm still at same speed. This is ridiculous. I can understand slowing me down but not to the point where I cannot even look up a place on maps. It times out.

I love the throttled logic of telcos, let's keep someone using the network longer to help with congestion
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
prolly better off with sprint. Its unlimited, they dont throttle, and you get real 4g instead of this weird crap tmobile calls 4g.
The network I use also throttles, but the majority of consumer contracts give you 500 Mb before you're throttled. You'll pay the equivalent of around US$10 for that half a gigabyte, which includes tethering. The logic behind it might seem flawed, but it discourages people to try to use the service when they know they've been throttled.
Luckily, I have an unlimited data contract, but I've struggling realistically to use the 4.3 Gb that I have in the last near-month (bill due 15 April) because data via the modem kills the battery.
In the original poster's case, something feels screwy but it's worth talking to somebody in the know or reading the contract carefully.
I think the most you can do is to wait till they have finished research. But maybe it helps to try your simcard in an other phone.

Didn't know where else to put this so mods please move if need to. Only found older threads, just looking for more current usage.
This is just a general question to all heavy data users regardless of carrier. I'm just curious because when I called to check on my plan the customer service rep was flippin out and said I'm in the TOP 1 percent of data users. I have service with Verizon wireless and thankfully I have unlimited data still. Just looks like I'm not upgrading anytime soon

How many gigs per month?

Hey guys just want to see and compare how much data everyone uses on average! I'm on T-Mobile and I have unlimited data, so a normal month for me would be between 9-12 Gb and on a crazy month I've gone upwards of 24+ Gb!
On a side note, those of you on Fi, how much data do you find yourself using? Do you tend to hold back to save money, or just usually like you normally would?
I'm rarely away from WiFi so I don't use that much data, my average monthly consumption is 3.2GB. This is primarily used when I'm streaming Spotify in the car or the odd occasions when WiFi isn't available.

That's not bad! What carrier are you on? I know on T-Mobile Spotify doesn't count towards your data, that's one reason I switched to them.
Here anything larger then 1GB will cost you over $100/mth. I'm forced to use less then 1GB.
It depends on what you use the most away from wi-fi. For me, I stream a lot of music, so the unlimited streaming that doesn't use my data is a lifesaver for me. In fact, it's why I haven't switched to Fi yet. If they offer it in the future, I will probably switch.
About 3GB.
I'm mostly on Wifi these days. Mostly browse when I am on mobile which doesn't use much data especially if you use data saver.
When on vacation though I can use some data. Currently on a 20gb plan with AT&T.

Getting by with less than 1 GB is impressive. How do you manage? Last winter I spent 3 weeks in Morocco, and i had an Moroccan account to be able to read some news and facebook while at the beach. Since I had my child with me every day except one, I didn't listen to music and had Wifi at our appartement. Still used up almost 5GB.
In Sweden I have an old accout with unlimited data and 3G speeds (Telenor), normally use between 25 and 50 GB every month.

Around 8-10GB per month for me though I have hit 20-30GB on occasion.
I only use WiFi at home but don't bother at plenty of other places its available.
At my new job i rely on wifi so i probably use a lot less now. (3-6Gb)
But at my old job where i relied on it so much and tethered i did use upward of 30Gb in one month (12 hour night shifts, you get bored.)
Thank god for unlim data
I only use around 8ish but I have 20 to spare. It works for me. Mostly Google music and a little bit of YouTube.
Me on TMobile unlimited high speed plan around 120gb each month
I've never used more than 1 gig of mobile data in a month, but I use about 15 on WiFi. I don't watch much video on my phone, and I do most of my app updates and podcast downloads over WiFi.
I'm interested to know what you guys who are using 70+GB a month are doing with the devices, surely that's a lot of tethering?
