I just got my nexus one today
I won't be using any custom roms yet but I would like to create a backup(like nandroid backup on magic) for my system in case anything goes wrong
anyway to do this?

Hey guys so I have a weird problem.
I can't restore my new backups.
That means all backups I did 2 weeks ago are restorable but now, when I do a backup of my current cyanogenmod rom and try to restore it, I get stuck at the HTC boot screen.
I heard it's because I used rom manager and sometimes rom manager destroys the PC10IMG, is that true??
Same thing happened to me. I had to do everything all over again. It will be nice if there is some more information about the problem. Thank you.

don't trust rom manager to perform recovery operations through its gui with any consistency.
if you're going to perform a recovery operation, just do it through CWM and save the hassle.
Well I did it all /backups & recovery/ through CWM and just hang on the welcome screen. Not that it was important because I only wanted to back up something I forgot after intending of installing a new rom, but still the question remains and it will be helpful for future time
I've found that Nandroid backups are unreliable if I'm at all low on free space on the SD Card. Even if there are no errors during the backup. I make sure I've got at least room for two whole backups now. Seems to solve the problem.

with nandroid backup taking up a significant amount of my limited 8gb storage, are there any other options for back up/restore if a ROM or kernel flash goes wrong and a nandroid-style restore is required to 'save' the phone?

You can always just use app2zip to make a flash able zip that has all your important apps, then store a copy of the stock rooted Rom and if something goes wrong just use those.

What I do is, clean install and create a nandroid backup (roughly 600mb) this backup is always on my phone in case something goes wrong. When I have everything installed, settings, etc. I would do another nandroid backup, this one will be in my Dropbox plus computer. In case I need it, I just copy or download/sync.

I did a standard nandroid on a pretty stock clean install (had the phone a week, nandroid prior to custom kernel instl). is there somewhere in cwm where I can check the size of the current nandroid?
I have a 32GB N7 that I share with my girlfriend. I quickly learned that if I flash a new ROM, that whole other user's info is gone.
After trying to restore apps and info using both Titanium and ROM Toolbox, I couldn't get it to function like it was before.
I tried to restore to a backup I made prior to doing this and it won't get past the boot screen. I can safely assume that whole other user account is gone. The question is, how can I bring that from one ROM to another? Or how can I restore back to a previous ROM that had it setup?

I could be wrong about this as I am very new to serious mucking around in Android but...
Were ROMs you were using previously based on 4.1.x or older? I know that it is only a very recent version of Android that has proper multi-user support (4.2.2 has it for instance.. I'm not sure about 4.2.1 etc..) and thus now places a "0" folder in which the main user's data is saved, and then there will be "10', "11" etc.. for subsequent users. I'm not sure if your data is gone or not depending on your exact situation, but there are issues that can come from trying to get recovery/data from "pre-MultiUser" and "post-MultiUser" ROMs. Sometimes you may be able to manually move or stipulate where you want to recover from etc... others, it may be gone. Not sure if this is helpful, but it is worthwhile to look into regarding multi-user Android.

I share the N7 with my wife and when I flashed ROM I wasnt able to restore any of her data through Titanium, but it would let me restore everything that was on my main user account. Had to switch back to stock rom nandroid, and her data was still gone and mine was all intact. Now she won't let me put a custom rom on If anyone has any suggestions/fixes I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Probably had to have titanium on both accounts, then created the account after ROM flash and titanium restore on both accounts sperately

Hi XDA,
My first post so I hope I have followed the correct procedures.
I have searched for this and haven't found anything that solves this.
My question is this:
I have a Nandroid backup of my PACMAN ROM on my SDCard (It has everything set perfectly to how I like and runs amazing).
Now I am going to fully wipe device and Dual Boot my device using a TW Rom (not sure which yet) as primary and PACMAN as secondary.
I wanted to know if I could restore my secondary rom (PACMAN) using the backup I have created previously?
If I need to do something specific (updating scripts or such) I am wiling to do so and i am not afraid of getting a bit deeper into this.
I have been following rlorange's thread, chenxiaolongs and Graraks also but nothing seems to address this.
Would it be possible to use rlorange's backup tool before I wipe (creating a 2nd backup of the same rom and its state) then use it to restore my 2nd ROM after flashing/dual booting?
Something tells me I can't but I just cant find enough info on this to answer this myself so I'm hoping you bright sparks could help me?

No idea to be honest. If you have a backup of your rom, then go ahead and just try if it works You can always restore.
That's what I thought....would be lovely to be able to do this in the future...

If anyone is interested I have flashed Wicked V8 as primary and PACMAN as secondary......after installing Titanium I was able to extract data from Nandroid and restore my 2nd rom to exactly how it was before.
All works absolutely fine.........whatsapp needs to be verified on each rom swap however but no massive issues so far. Very happy

You shouldn't be using TWRP to backup/restore data between different ROMs in the first place. That will not only back up your apps but all settings as well, which will cause problems on a different ROM. The only safe way is to use Titanium Backup to backup your user apps (not system apps) and then restore that backup on the new ROM.

Could you point me to where you've seen someone recommending to restore a nandroid /data backup on a different ROM? It's widely known that this is nothing but trouble, if it's on XDA it probably needs to be taken care of.

Titanium backup is the only really viable solution in such a case. When you need to make a snapshot of your whole system in case of failure you use a Nandroid backup, however when you need to transfer data between /system formats then it's best if you use titanium backup.
