UK Voda Magic - Upgrading ROM newbie Q - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I have a UK Vodafone Magic running the vodafone 1.6 ROM. I have given Cyanogen a try so can flash an image, but would like to have a look at AOSP 2.4 or Manup 456's 2.1 ROMs.
I am a little confused as to the procedure though... do I need to flash a new SPL (I didnt when I tried cyanogen), and if so will one SPL work with either image?
I have a NAND backup of my stock image, so can get back to that if something goes wrong, and I am using the standard SPL with fastboot bootloader.
Thanks

I believe it is Donut/1.6. I will try it now.
No. It is 1.5 with Language Support.
Not as good as 1.6, but not bad. Now i have Portuguese Dictionary in input!
Risks with rooted 32A Magics that are rooted with Engineering SPLs
What will this do to my rooted 32A if I apply the official ROM? It took me a long time to get rid of the Airtel perfected SPL and I don't want to go back to a SPL which is perfected just to gain an official ROM from HTC. Basically... Does applying this ROM cause changes to the phone that mean that custom ROMs could not be applied without doing the whole Goldcard thing again? I had issues with the Goldcard creation and finding an SD card which would work.
The official ROM sounds nice. Just don't know if I want to sacrifice the other things the custom cooked ROMs give me.

HTC Magic 32A Sig ON and other issues

Hello. I've got an issue with a phone. A friend of mine , used the vodafone updated to the latest version of 1.5 with Sense ui and perfect SPL.
Happens that with the orange tecnic we are able to Flash the SPL but it doesnt go to SiG off anyone know the reason?
I tried also to do an experiment to try get into sig off, i prepared a goldcard, and i flashed the old SPL and later made the flashing process by vodafone HTC generic update . Happens that the phone hangs on flashing Radio.
Later then Gives me RUU. So i flashed back the Perfect SPL of high radio, and first time hanged in radio, secound time worked.
Also there are issues regarding to this. When it is flashed ROMs for 6.35 radio, it seems that on:
sanpei hero, legend or eris
Smoki
Capyslide
The phone just hangs on HTC magic logo and stays there.
The only roms working are:
CursorDroid
Sanpei 0.4 pre
Cyanogenmod 5.0.7 and the test version 5.0.8
Anyone know the reason? Thanks
Best regards

Downgrade froyo and install clockworkmod

Hi, I had a nicely setup Legend that had clockwork recoverymod on it, and it was using a custom ROM (Froyo, debranded Vodafone), I was very happy.
My phone had to be sent for service under warranty, so I loaded the RRU of Vodafone Android 2.1 to get rid of traces of rooting. Problem is, I suspect the phone will be coming back today and I am guessing it's going to have the Vodafone Froyo release on it.
What steps do I need to do to get it back how it was? Does Froyo bring any new hurdles I have to overcome to get clockworkmod on it so I can load custom rom?
Thanks.
Phone back with Android 2.1 and HBoot 0.43
Easy job rooting it and getting the nandroid backup on there. How do I do the radio? Is it easier to just load the debranded vodafone ROM (which updats the radio) and then reload my nandroid?
Is there any advantages to the official HTC unbranded ROM, to the 3 week old Vodafone debranded ROM?

[Q] HTC HD2 Update-Help (to 3.14.407.2) with SSPL ?!

Hello,
i have a HTC HD2 phone from vodafone.
a few months ago i did an update to the orgignal HTC ROM 1.66.407.1 (GER).
Now the mobile Windows is very slow and i want the new ROM 3.14.407.2 (GER).
I have downloaded the orginal ROM here (not the Vodafone ROM)
But when i want to update here stands that i dont have the permisson because it is a HTC from vodafone.
I had that problem a few months before, but i cant remeber how i did the update.
I dont want a Hard Flash, it if is possible. (i can remember that i flash it with SSPL (SLPL_RUU.exe, but i am not really sure.)
My SPL version ist 1.42
It is right that first i have to update the vodafone-ROM, because of the RADIO and ther SPL version, and then i can run the SPL_RUU.exe to update the orginal HTC ROM?
Furthermore i have read that many people have problems with the new 3.14 ROM
Thanx for your Help
(you can also answer in german )

Sorry, I cant speak German
You can't flash other stock rom which is not intended for your device series. But, you still can do it using GOLD CARD method. If you are interested, find in the threads using search button
Im not sure of flashing stock rom using SSPL, because I never do that (and I have no intention to try it )
To avoid any trouble, I would suggest you to find the CORRECT STOCK ROM, if your device is from VODAFONE, then go to VODAFONE website to find it whether there is update rom.
The problem reported by other users is because they have installed Stock ROM version 3.14 (which contains SPL 3.03.0000) using HSPL.
SPL 3.03 is incompatible with HSPL.
Cheers
thanks
But it is right that i have to flash the original Vodafone ROM ( to update the SPL and Radio) and then I can flash the original HTC ROM (not vodafone) with SSPL?
Is that right?
And after that, can I downgrade to maybe 1.66 with the same method when I have the New 3.14 ROM with SPL 3.03 and RADIO 2.15 ?

Sir (after your PM)
Flash your phone only with S/N 3.14 ROM
if it's Vodafone then flash with 3.14 Vodafone ROM
to get SPL 3.03 and HTC radio 2.15
ok thanks,
but i dont want the vodafone branded software/ROM.
Then i must flash again (after the vodafone ROM flash) the origianl non-branded HTC-HD2-ROM with SSLP right?
Then i have the newest radio and spl version from the vodafone-ROM and the non-branded software/OS from the original HTC-ROM right? (is the newest orginal ROM supported by SSLP? or can i flash the 3.14-ROM with SSLP?)
The last question -> can i always downgrade to (without SSLP/HSLP etc.) the original vodafone 1.66 or 1.72-ROM ? or it is not possible when i have newest SPL and Radio version?
Thansk a lot.
PS: The HTC is for my father for birthday.I want to give him the HTC as a gift and it should be with the original, newest and non-branded ROM/OS.
And for me it is important that i can easly can downgrade to the original vodafone-ROM.

You can always downgrade it by flashing the older CORRECT STOCK ROM using Micro SD Card method. If you flash with UNCORRECT STOCK ROM, you might get into trouble (it wont flash), unless you have a GOLD CARD.
All STOCK ROM contains SPL. Once you flash it via Micro SD, then your HSPL or SPL will be replaced with the SPL contains in the rom.
Be careful

Still not Sim-unlocked after eng s-off & rom flash etc.

Hi guys, i seem to have missed out my unlocking my DHD after eng s-offing and flashing custom radio and ROM.
Cant remember exactly the process i followed but i wanna upgrade to LeeDrOiD's GB ROM tomorrow and want to make sure i can use other sims after that. Is there now a one stop tool that will just give me SimUnlock? Im tied to TMob UK at this stage.
Best Regards
Go to 1.32.405.6, use nand backup if you have one, or use Raidroid ROM, search for it. Then use my radio s-off tool to do SimUnlock. You also have to go back to the older radio for the tool to work.
