If you load the gallery but subsequently move images from one folder to another using a file manager, there doesn't seem to be a way to update the gallery short of a reboot. I have tried closing it with a task killer buit that doesn't do it. Is there a way to do it with a script or something?

You might be able to clear the Gallery cache through the Manage Applications screen in Settings.

I'm currently running cmylxgo stock desire rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901576 and am loving it but have one issue. Lately I've been getting alerts that my phine is low on space. I delete any unused apps but pretty soon ill have to delete ones I use. Is there a way to be able to download as many apps as I want or delete any of the stick apps ill never use like facebbok, twitter etc.....or does anyone know if any of his other roms allow for more space?
Lots of different apps in the market for this mate do a search.

Search for 'move to SD'.
Search the Market for App 2 SD
App to sd opened up about 25% more memory. Thanks guys
You can also try Darktremor a2sd script. It should allow you to move not only apps that can be moved to SD card but every apps along with the dolvik cache and user data files.
I haven't tried it on my HD2 yet and I know its still in beta, so I can't guarantee you whether it will work or not. But at least it worth a try. If u wanna try it do a nandroid backup first, just in case it mess something...

Thanks, i wish there was a way to delete unused stock apps. For example...i dont use facebook or twitter so y have it. That would free up room too.....i'll ride with app2sd for now til something else pops up later.

My rom doesn't come with facebook or twitter pre installed. Anyways, u can delete those from /system/app

You can delete unused stock apps by purchasing an app called 'Root Explorer' from the market (or install any root-enabled file explorer really, i just like root explorer the best lol) and delete the .apk file of whatever app you don't want from /system/app directory of your phone. If your rom loads the system to ram memory, you also will have to delete the .apk from /system/ram/app directory or it will re-appear

I got root explore and did the following. clicked on root explorer then went into sysytem then app and deleted the facebook and twitter apk. They still appear in my apps though. Is there something elseim supposed to do?
Still no instructions on how to delete stock apps via root explorer? I found this on the thread to my rom but dont know how to install it. I got it on my desktop but now what?Can anyone help?
If you wish to gain an additional 27MB for apps in /data/ you can install the my new partition layout MAX[Build.v1.1.7]. This is NOT required and you can use any of my other partition layouts with build v1.1.7. However if MAX[v1.1.7] partition layout is used with older builds your Phone will not boot. I have a few questions re: the gallery that I'd love some help with.
1. Gallery doesn't update a folder if I move a picture using a file explorer (Astro or Root Explorer for example). If I reboot the phone then the picture shows up in the correct directory. I'm guessing that restarting the gallery app would do the same thing. Anyone else having this issue?
2. Is there a way to have the gallery only look to one location for pics? I hate how it always grabs every image on my SD Card. Especially if you have Bejeweled installed. It adds about 10 folders of images that I don't want to have to browse through. Is there another gallery app that would allow me to set this if the stock gallery doesn't work that way?

Also noticing that the Gallery just doesn't update frequently. I thought it did this every time you opened it, but I guess not. Is there a way to force programs to re-scan the SD card?
SDRescan in the market works perfectly... and if you want to keep the folder from being seen in the gallery, just add a blank text file to the folder and rename it .nomedia

stock gallery will grab images from any folder on your SD if you don't want your gallery to load em theres two ways when in gallery hit menu then show hide. this will do as it says and either load or not load certain folders. Other option is to place a period in front of the folder name u want hidden i.e. ".test". This will hide it from the Android system in general but not file explorers.
Requirements :

How :
First... Update all your standard programs in your phone, from Market [Example : Gmail, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Maps, Adobe Flash Player, Data Monitor & ...]
Download your important programs from Market [Example for me : Root Explorer, Adobe Reader, Bluetooth File Explorer, Advanced Task Killer, Facebook Messenger & ...]
Open "Root Explorer"
Go to "/data/app" folder.
Press Menu key, then press "Multi-select" Button.
Select all file (Programs).
Press "Copy" Button.
Now, Go to "/system/app" folder.
Press "Paste" Button.
For Now, delete old programs, if you new programs is paste this folder. [Example : COPY "com.google.android.apps.maps.apk" from "/data/app" to "/system/app". So DELETE "google maps.apk" (old file)]
Sync or Backup your personal data, if you have.
Factory Reset Device from Phone, with Erase Memory Card.
Finish!
Now you can see over 200-250 MB Free storage in Phone Memory! While your application is installed in internal memory!!!

updated market (com.android.vending.apk for your case) should be inside /data/app

I tired that many times without success. I tired to convert the FB to a normal application ending up TB running for about 8 hours and my battery dead. After I booted up the phone, FB is neither here nor there and ended up restoring from backup!
Not sure it's only happening to me though .

I have just tried to move one app and it is working fine without factory reset.

I copied data from /data/app to /system/app, then uninstalled the app and rebooted device. The app is now a system app, not sure if it will work for all kinds of apps, will continue to move more of my apps to the /system/app folder.
One disadvantage could be that upgrading firmware also requires that all the systemized apps are reinstalled.
Im using the a2sd script + titanium backup's ability to freeze a background app/process then unfreeze them\it when I need it

Sometimes I move some of my pictures from one directory to another using ConnectBot's local command line or the ASTRO File Manager. The problem is, after this the new pictures are not visible in the stock Gallery app, and there are blank rectangles where the old ones used to be.
I tried cleaning Gallery's cache & data, manually deleting sdcard/Android/data/com.android.gallery3d and sdcard/DCIM/thumbnails, but none of this helped. The only thing that helps is rebooting my phone.
Is there another way to force Gallery to rescan my file system?

It gives me this error: "cache_blablabla cannot be removed: the storage location is write protected. Remove the protection and try again"
Could I somehow get administrator permission so I can remove it?

Any time you add or remove apps(especially apps in the system partition), you can boot the device into stock recovery mode and select the "wipe cache partition" option, then reboot. This is necessary because left over cached data from apps that are no longer there can cause conflicts with your device functioning properly.
When the device reboots, it will rebuild the cache as it needs and everything will work like it is supposed to.
This will wipe all cached data on your device, this does not remove your personal files or anything else important, it is not the same as factory reset, it only wipes the "live" data that the app has stored/loaded in the background while the device is on. Similar to clearing your RAM space on PC, it doesn't wipe the user data or any other data from your harddrive, it just dumps what is in your RAM.
One other thing, the Android/data folder is a necessary folder, that is where it stores app data for ALL of the apps that you installed. If you look inside that folder, you will see other folders, each of these other folders is a folder for each individual app that the phone is storing data for.
What you are actually probably looking for is how to remove that data that was associated to the app that you removed. That can be deleted using your phones file manager. Just open your file manager on your android device, select your internal storage. There you will see the Android folder, open it, then you will see all the folders for the individual apps. Find the folder there that is associated to the app that you removed. When you find it you can delete it from within your file manager app.
You don't need a PC, ADB or any other apps or fancy special tricks to delete folders that are stored within the Android/data folder.

And I am doing it because there's an app that gives away something free, you can use it max. 5 times and then you have to purchase. So I thought it'd be a good idea to remove everything associated to that app what might makes it possible to give me the free stuff again, haha

It is pointless for you to even try, the information that keeps track of how many times you've done it is probably stored online somewhere in some server for the developers/owners of the app.
