Is it just a software limitation for n1 to have no bluetooth transfer or are there any hardware issues ? I am new to android but i have learned some limitations of android which most can be fixed thru modin . . Just last week i was all Hd2 fan an almost bought it if it wasnt for the sms and camera issues (they still haven fixed it properly) .
After lookin at the n1, it was love at 2nd sight and now i have already ordered it .
There is an app in android market that lets us transfer files thru bluetooth but is it only pc to phone(vice versa) or supports also phone to phone transfers? And also any mods indevelopment for bluetooth transfers currently in progress ?
Hopefully a newer version of android will support but i doubt it will be any time soon since i see many ppl askin for this feature since android 1.5 . . (Although android gets upgraded fast )
I havnt used bluetooth file transfer on my nexus yet, I will right now, but I can transfer between my G1 and mytouch using medival's app
I have try to send file from my Nexus One to my PC with Bluetooth work! But I can't send file from my PC back to my Nexus One.. If you get sucess sending file to Nexus One with PC let us know!
After install Bluetooth File, Now it works on both way, I can send file from PC to Nexus One no issue. And I can use Nexus One to get file for my PC. Make the whole world easier.
I can verify that BT file transfer indeed does work on the N1. I transferred images and MP3's both ways between my N1, and N91 (Nokia). No issues at all.
I want to be able to transfer files between my nexus one and my frens nokia n95( or any other phone that has bt )

Try to use Bluetooth file from Market. It works for me.
I can 'send file' just fine, but unless I install Bluetooth File from the market, I can't 'Browse Device' and just navigate the file structure, using my MBP, or my Ubuntu box. It's a bit annoying that you have to install an app to do this. Seems like basic functionality on a smartphone. It was, on my old Nokia N95.
Installing Bluetooth File works fine, but I hate to have to run an app for this.
(And don't get me started on tethering. Again stock out of the box on the old Nokia.)

I have an Acer TM4052 running XP with SP2 I cannot get my XDA to send a file over bluetooth to the laptop. I've paired the devices and everything else I can think of with my limited knowledge. Sending a file from my laptop to my XDA works fine but when using the 2i to send a file it can't locate my laptop, both devices are on discoverable and all that other basic stuff
PLEASE HELP!!
Cheers
I've not had any difficulty sending files...except are you using Beam File or Send via Bluetooth?
I noticed that the Beam function no longer seems to check BT devices as the stack has a separate option in the context menu of a file now.
Cheers
Ant
I am using the option to send files using bluetooth...this is really irking me! I can send files from the laptop just fine but from my xda to the laptop is no go
Discovered something else last night, I was able to send a file from my wifes I-mate just fine (i think she's using the widcomm stack) I've even downloaded the broadcomm cab file BroadcomCorp_BT1.0.0.3900 and still no friggin luck......
o.k, didn't wanna resort to this but I AM NOW WILLING TO PAY SOMEONE A MODEST FEE TO HELP ME SORT THIS OUT!!!!
Have you check the bluetooth software's option in your laptop whether you have activated the file transfer and file pim transfer automatically ??? I recently encountered the same problem with you and stupid me that the solution to this problem is just one click at the option button. Hicks ...
the problem is not with the laptop, because i am able to send files via bluetooth to the laptop using my wifes I-Mate (XDA II) but whenever i try using my XDA IIi i get a message saying it was unsuccessful
Hi Guys, Is anyone aware of a free program to transfer large files (say MP3 files) from my Macbook to WM6 phone (HTC Touch/Elf/P3450).
I have been successfully using SyncMate to connect to my HTC Touch and hence the USB connection works fine, so I believe that there should be a simple way to transfer files quickly to the storage card on my HTC. (I dont want to use Bluetooth as I need to transfer lots n lots of songs to my device..)
Thanks in advance for your expert views!
Cheers
SD Card reader is my suggestion.
So without buying a SD Card Reader Hardware, there is no other solution? Coz Macbook doesnt come with a (Micro) SD Card Reader..I was thinking that since SyncMate was able to connect to HTC via USB, there might be some other software or just some settings in Mac (or *nix) that need to be changed..
Just had a brain wave Since I already have boot camp installed on my Macbook, I just copied all the songs that I wanted to transfer onto my Windows Desktop from within Macbook. Next, just restarted my Mac in Windows and using ActiveSync and USB Cable, transferred the songs onto the storage device on my HTC!
I'm using Missing Sync on my Mac (around 35$). You can mount the SD card of the mobile phone on the desktop as a USB drive.
Hey, since we are on this topic.
I was thinking about getting a Macbook Pro, but don't want to give up my Touch Elfin P3452.
Will Mac OS X communicate with WM6 or ?
Yes it wud work , BUT u need to have EITHER Boot Camp installed on your Macbook (Boot Camp - used for booting into Windows) OR as suggested above, use Missing Sync..(I was unable to get Missing Sync trial edition working on my Macbook though..)
Alternatively other complicated approach could be to use some OS level commands..I had seen a blog somewhere which mentioned about using Unix Level commands to achieve the same..
Actually if you don't need to transfer big files (>5MB or so is quite tough), sync, or use huge speed you can use Bluetooth to transfer files and tether. As said before SyncMate for Mac is a nice free solution for syncing certain things. Missing Sync and PocketMac are full-fledged syncers you need to pay for.
Alternatively you can use Windows in BootCamp, VMWare or Parallels, but I really hate doing that because it's a bulky thing.
Just bought an IOGear bluetooth adaptor for my pc. I installed it fine but when I try to connect my Hero, it doesnt show up. Has anyone successfully paired their Hero with Windows 7 using Bluetooth? Dont see why it wouldnt find my phone. I made it discoverable. :Stumped:
Pair it to do what?
You can't transfer files between the two until the Hero is updated by HTC.
Well i thought maybe I could transfer music, files, contacts or whatever. Maybe make calls using my pc or something stupid. I dunno, thought I could do some cool sh*t with it but I guess not. What a waste. I knew I shouldnt have bought it. Oh well, its getting returned until this phone can have some use for it.
Ye no file transfers until HTC update our Heros (shouldn't me more than a month or two now).
You may be able to make calls and send SMS from your pc though with some specialist software for your PC/MAC. I used to be able to answer calls and send texts straight from my computer with my HTC Diamond (windows mobile). There may well be a Android version of such software if you google it.
am i being stupid ??
im sat here with my HTC Desire (running GingerVillain) connected via USB to my transformer dock. Ive enabled USB mass storage on my phone.
Can i find it using File Manager ? No ... nor ES file explorer ..... am i going mad ? im sure when i was at home i was able to find a USB drive through file explorer ... is this a quirk of Android mass storage or am i just being thick ??
It doesn't work for me either. Would be nice if they got this to work soon. I thought maybe it was because I din't have 3.1 but even after the update it won't work. Kinda sucks.
this is similar as connect together two windows pc, It never worked like that . why should work here then?

hmmmm. but isnt the whole point of the Android USB Mass storage 'mode' that it works like a USB Flash drive ? ... and the Transformer copes with USB Flash Drives !!!
im not suggesting that its like plugging two windows pcs together ????
i had a thread about this last week.
it does the same thing for me (i have an HTC desire). very annoying!!!!
the only way i found to easily transfer files was using a bluetooth transfer app called:
"Bluetooth file transfer" free in the android market.
its not that fast (bluetooth limitation) but allows transfer of smaller files etc.
i wanted to transfer all my music (like 4gb) but over BT that would take days lol
so i have to wait to copy paste it all to a computer, copy paste to a USB stick, copy paste onto the transformer
OR, upload on my wifi to Dropbox and then download onto my transformer. uploading 4gb would also take days....
hopefully it will come soon...!!!
connected my san francisco (CM7) to the TF, it's mounted as 'removable' correctly...
I have my external HITACHI HDD on NTFS working fine but when I've tried to connect my Nexus S in as a drive its just blink on Transformer task bar and thats all
I would love to see my NS connected to Transformer so I can do more work on it.
Any1 know how to make it work ?
I have the same problem. I am on 3.1, but my X10 mini is not seen by the Transformer. No problems with thumb drives - or even a Microsoft wireless mouse (with own dongle) works perfectly.
It's a little surprising that an Android device is the only thing that is giving me problems!
Love the device. Great build, feels nice - just like everyone else says.
Why would anyone release a device that can't connect to a computer to transfer files? Am I missing something? I've tried connecting on Mac and Windows and searched high and low for drivers, tips, tricks, etc. Don't tell me Dropbox or some other back door solution. The whole reason I bought Android (I already have 2 ipads) is to eliminate itunes. Why would I want to have to use a software solution to transfer files - I would just stay with itunes if that were the case. I have an EVO 4G that mounts as a hard drive and when I load files the app recognizes (photo, music, video) and plays it. WTF!!!!!!
Can someone help? NO I AM NOT INTERESTED IN SOME STUPID WORKAROUND spending 30 hours at the risk of bricking and voiding warranty ending up with some laggy piece of crap custom ROM just to do ONE SIMPLE TASK - DRAG AND DROP! No offense, I respect what you hard cores do. I don't have time. I need $500 devices to work as expected.
Oh yeah, stupid POS wouldn't play an AVI file either. No idea why. Don't really care. It took 2 hours to transfer a file via Dropbox. Not doing that again.
Suggestions welcome. My Samsung Tab 10.1 is currently for sale on ebay. Maybe I'll take it down if some kind soul out there can help me figure this out.
Had the same issue. You just need the correct drivers for your PC. Hope that helps.
Try installing this on your mac - Android File Transfer
For some reason, Honeycomb devices don't mount as regular mass storage device, but rather under the Microsoft MTP protocol (verified when my friend with a mac told me I needed to install the Anrdoid File Transfer when I connected his Xoom to my Win7 laptop. I told him he's crazy, but he didn't know since he never connected his Xoom to a PC running Windows).
Hopefully it's fixed for the retail 10.1 tabs.
If you disable "USB debugging," your PC should recognize it as external storage.
I seem to have having the same problem (10.1).
I installed the samsung mobile drivers, and disable usb debugging.
Now when i plug in my tablet it says connected to samsung kies. On windows i get the pop-up for a usb storage connection, but I cant actually view the files and this doesn't show up in my computer.
Do i have to install samsung kies? I only installed the mobile drivers 'Samsung_USB_Driver_P4_Including_Escape'
Any help?
I installed both. My windows 7 identifies it with a mobile phone icon, but under it the sdcard is identified as a tablet(default name). When i connect it to my pc my GT displays "connected / press home key to quit Samsung kie" so I guess kids is requisite.

Thanks for the help. Installed Android File Transfer but still no luck with debugging on or off. It just says "No Android Device Found"
Maybe I have a bad unit or something?
Are there any Mac users out there that have been able to connect? I also have a Vista PC that I will start toying around with.
Use file manager app and do it wirelessly via wifi
It is easy and you dont need a pc ...
I've been having the same problem. It seems that the Android File Transfer program hasn't been updated since the change to 3.1. I'm pretty confident that it'll be fixed shortly. However this is an Android issue not a Samsung issue- . The Xooms and Transformers are having the same problem.

I'm leaning towards that it's a Samsung issue as my friend has both a Xoom and Transformer on 3.1 and Android File Transfer is working fine for them.
I've the 10.1v and I just plugged the usb cable and I saw the device as an external storage. Probably the problem is limited to the I/O devices.
For Divx try downloading "MoboPlayer". I thnink that the default avi player can play only h.264 files
Uhh from when i got my tab i had this problem as well all i did was go into control panel uninstall the drivers installed from the first time of plugging it in .. Then i went onto the tab disabled debugging and connected again let it install its drivers and i was set to go just make sure u have samsung kies installed onto your computer so it can find drivers and once the drivers were installed i went into my computer and it was there named something like pt-901 something lol hopefully this helps..

Thanks for this. Works great. Getting better...
I still don't know how any OEMs are going to gain traction against Apple among the masses who don't have the patience to figure this stuff out. Luckily I have some time on my hands this weekend!
Dropbox is taking about 30 minutes to transfer a 700MB file from my laptop to my box and then DL to the Tab's memory. Not a great solution. Need to figure out this USB file transfer thing.

What codec was used for your AVI file? Xvid? If so, then that's whack of Samsung to list Xvid and AVI as native support under their specifications.
Do you need to install the Samsung Kies onto every computer you want to transfer files via USB with?
Other Android devices I haven't had to install any third party software for this.
Same here. Every other Android device I've had is drag and drop on both Mac and PC which is the main draw for me. EVO, Archos, etc, etc...
I also thought that Samsung claimed native playback for Xvid AVI files...??? Apparently not.
Finally works!!! While I was messing around with drivers for PC I discovered that Samsung posted and updated (June 9th) version of Kies which allows easy files transfer on Mac. Problem solved.
Now I just need to figure out how to charge over USB so I don't have to lug this brick of an AC adapter around and I'm converted!

My transformer had no problem after the 3.1 update. Just kept on working. Hopefully my Sammy will work as well.

Can you throw a link in here?
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510UWYXAR
The above is where I was able to DL both PC drivers and Kies for Mac that WORKS! One thing to note - make sure that you are on the Samsung US site. Originally I was on Samsung.com/ca domain and none of the files would work. When I switched to the US site at Samsung.com (scroll to the bottom to change location) the files worked.
