can't find the t-mobile $279 upgrade - Nexus One General

truly sorry if this has been discussed but I couldn't find it. was/is anyone able to find the supposed $279 subsidy if you already have a t-mobile contract? i'm not seeing this option on the google phone site. when I enter my information it says I am not eligible for an upgrade at this time, as my contract was initiated too recently. what gives?
http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=9576481
edit: btw I've been under contract since day one of the G1 (14+ months). is there some cutoff for length of time you've been under contract that the article doesn't say?

I think it's only for people who are T-Mobile customers and are NOT under contract.
I'm under contract too, but I believe the method to get that $279 deal is by going to www.google.com/phone --> choose T-Mobile -> put in your T-Mobile account details. It'll tell if you're eligible, which again I believe is only for people who are on a month-to-month.

If you got the full upgrade price, 22 months. Keep in mind, you're still paying off the subsidy from the G1.

so your contract has to be at least 22 months old to get the $279 price. ok thanks. I would probably just buy the unlocked version anyway.

Best Buy Preorders

How does the pre ordering at Best Buy work? I haven't bought a phone since 2007 and that was an iPhone, I just walked up to at&t store and got it (Evo 4g now)
Anyway, at BestBuy, you obviously have to get a contract with it, do they offer 1 year contracts with it? Or solely two years. I will just go there and ask if none of you know. Just wanted to save some trouble.
Danke
I just pre-ordered today.
U just write ur info on a droid-x preorder form. put 50 bucks which can be canceled if u change ur mind. they'll check ur eligibility for upgrade, write up the plan u want (went with the cheapest), and finally writing ur name and number on the list.
they might call u during the launch. they put me on a 2 yr plan, but during launch I'll ask for a year. see how that goes
Apparently best Buy does not offer the 1 year contracts.
FYI: as of today, BB is not taking preoders anymore.

I want a one year contract but wanted to preorder it. I spoke with Verizon, and they said that Best Buy can indeed set it up with a one year contract. Worst case, according to this rep, is that I buy it with the two year contract and within the first 30 day return window you can change your mind about the contract and they'll bill you the difference in the amount of the 1-year subsidized phone and the 2-year subsidized phone.
I would imagine Best Buy will also sell them outright with no contract if you had a preorder, they just don't know the price yet.

Samsung Vibrant Pricing (new information)....

I called customer care today and found out the following.
2 year contract - $199.99 (nothing new)
1 year contract - $299.99
no contract - $439.99
There's also a partial discount for early upgrades, but I forgot what she said. I was too shocked by the no contract price.
Pre-orders begin July 15th.
that's great! Will probably get the vibrant... I thought it would cost 500 and up....thanks for the info

Just called my store asking about preordering on the 15th, and the store manager told me that it was actually being released on the 15th, and that the launch had been moved up.

You got it early
Plus, you got 8gb and a front-facing camera. And no carrier logos.
someone just posted this in another forum but it confirms the $439 for a "basic" upgrade price
anybody know what a Basic Upgrade is?

PS just spoke to Tmo CS and there is some sort of contract involved with the $439 price but the CS rep covered so much material (you'd think it wouldn't be that complicated) that i gave up trying to make sense of what she was explaining
but the sheet at the above link is apparently valid, she had it in her system

no contract price was announced last week but they said $449.99
*Nevermind*
Wow, that's less that £300, I may have to get one of them for the lady since I'll be out there in a couple of weeks.
i'll still pay the xtra premium price to get it now, and have the factory unlocked 16 GB version, than having the localized carriers version of the phone, with 8 GB or less.
Too bad the version with the keyboard is only for CDMA networks

Both the TMobile and ATT versions have 16GB.
Also I believe if you're out of contract they will unlock it for you anyway... Or you can pay someone $10 to do it OTA.
I think what'll hurt TMobile's sales more than anything is ATT's $350 no-contract pricing on the Captivate.

If you've been a customer for 6 months or greater I believe they'll unlock your phone without any questions.
As for ATT's $350 price. I'll believe it when I see it on their order page and an order is actually shipped. The $350 came from an AT&T employee answering a question. Who knows where they got their information from. Seems like a case of misinformation just like T-mobile when they had it listed for $329.

When you pay the full price Yes it is locked, you have to ask them to unlock it. and if you run into some new guy tell him your in and out of the country regularly.
I have not had a sim locked phone in 3 years, I do it all the time.
If your worried about it, ask before you buy.

I've confirmed it like three different days with them... Seems to be good so far.
so if i were to buy this phone for the $200 2yr contract price, and i had a $100 credit, would i be getting it for $100? i know this is a stupid question, but i've been scouring the net looking for a price for current customers. and if i could confirm the $100 price, i'd pretty much induce a coma until thursday so i wouldn't have to wait.
You don't have a $100 credit, you have a $100 credit LINE. That means you can pay $100 down and three payments of $33.
Also, No Contract price is $499! Quit spreading misinformation.

Getting AT&T discount while still in middle of contract

I usually suck at getting these kinds of things, so thought I would ask first before trying, to see if there are any tips for things I should be saying.
I want to get the Streak, but I renewed my 2 year contract with AT&T back in January of this year. So I still have a year 3 months left on my contract. I know that I can get an early contract renewal with a fee of $75, but that is usually straight through AT&T. I tried to go through Dell, and was told I can't get the $250 discount because I'm still on contract.
Has anyone managed to do early renewal at all through AT&T and get the discount for the Streak? I would really appreciate any help on this. My Tilt 2 was OK and everything, but I want something with more...OMPH.
So just sell your current phone on eBay and order a Streak. Your sale = the carrier subsidy you seek.
Best wishes,
Geoff
Well, considering the original plan was get subsidy and sell old phone so Streak only costs me about $150 to $200, this sort of puts a monkey wrench in that. The main reason I'm not just buying it without is the wife factor.
My contract isn't up until January 2011, I bought my Streak and got it for $299. Must have been a glitch, I bought it the first day it was released.
That might be because AT&T usually lets people slide when within 6 months of contract ending.

True but I can still upgrade with a discount in 3 months though. I've went to the store and upgraded a few months early and they changed my upgrade date. I'm not complaining though.

[Q] even more plus from best buy???

Okay I'm confused...
I ordered a Nexus S from best buy for $199 and it just arrived today... I called tmobile to activate the phone and they said I can get setup on this Even More Plus plan which has no contract and is $20 cheaper than the regular plan... not knowing anything about this I just said sure????
So now I'm reading more about this Even More Plus stuff on T-Mobile and it says you have to buy a phone at full price to qualify for this price.... buuuuut I paid bestbuy $199 for the phone.... how/why/huuuuuuh?????
So... I verified on my tmobile account that it is infact setup as the Even More Plus for $59.99/month... and also verified bestbuy billed me $199 for the phone...
what am I missing?
It does say that you might get an ETF added onto your account if you started a new 2-year plan already -- might want to look into that.

He'll be OK. I went into a tmobile store to activate it and they switched it after the fact. Basically treated as a price plan adjustment. doesn't require a new contract.

But that's what I'm saying... they didn't start a 2-year plan on my account... and I didn't have tmobile previously (this is new service).
I've called and talked to a few people now on tmobile and they're all telling me I have no contract...
Isn't bestbuy getting ripped here? Shouldn't they have charged me $529 for the phone if I was going to get this no contract plan with tmobile?
Weird... I did the same thing, but mine auto-activated. And I was given a 2-year contract with my Nexus S. If you don't have a contract though, kudos. You saved over $300 and $20 monthly!
I would chalk it up to their mistake and your win. Congrats. I love Even more Plus

I didn't even know about it until now... I hadn't really payed too much attention to the plans, I was more so getting the phone to try it out. At this "deal" I can't really give it back though... lol
Bestbuy.com has been having problems with their mobile orders communicating with T-Mobile. It took me 2 days and hours on hold to actually get this phone ordered and the person I finally got to push the order through for me said there was a communication error going to T-Mobile... so he pushed it through "manually" and shipped me the phone... Well, when I got the phone the SIM card it came with wasn't activated so I called and they're telling me no contract.
yay?
yay!
Now just to adjust to the blueish tint on this screen and I can finally be happy...
Damn, explain how you did it. I would like to try this out!

Well T-Mobile officially sucks as far as service.
I wonder what will happen if I discontinue service with T-Mobile when I'm on a plus plan... will this come back to bite me in the butt later from best buy or do they no additional ties after selling me the phone???
Here is a catch: you still have to oblige the remainder of contract even you migrated to EM+.
For example, if you signed 2 years contract today and change to EM+ 6 months later, you still have to oblige the rest of 18 months and still subject to ETF if you have your number cutoff or ported out.
This happened on me as I was on 2 years contract after obtained TM717 with contract and migrated to EM+ 8 months later.

Ya but I didn't sign a 2 year contract then go to EM+ 6 months later... I signed up at best buy for new service then called T-Mobile and activated the phone with EM+ and they say I have no contract. As far as I can tell, I could easily just port my number and get no ETF because no contract. Unless best buy follows up with it somehow?

Someone said Wirefly requires you keep data service for at least 6 months - not sure though - something to check into if you don't plan on keeping data.
I'll be pre ordering mine tomorrow! - Though its probably not necessary as lots of places near by will be getting them and I doubt there will be a huge amount of people waiting to get one at the current price - but just to be safe haha.

thats only for under contract deals. ive ordered from them before so i know the process. when you order a device at a subsidized price (lets say an evo) you can get it at a lower price than other places. At Sprint its on sale for 199 but if you get it at wirefly then its 149.99 with a 2 year contract. The thing is you have to have their service uninterrupted for 6 months or you pay an ETF. With something thats not in a contract you are only obligated for that one month and you are out of their hands.

Yeah that makes sense, I just thought I read that someone said Wirefly requires they own 2nd party contract for 6 months - I was glancing through quickly and didn't pay much attention though
Give them a call or live chat. You must keep the data plan for at least 6 months, or be charged $300 Wirefly ETF

Yeah, don't but from wirefly, they require a 6 month contract with no benefit to you. They probably don't even have them and just resell for verizon but get the activation credit, hence you having a contract.
Its unfortunate that there was no mention of that wifi model. Damn.

I'll call to ask about that 1 year contract. I bet there is a catch. Such as having to use a 50$ a month plan. I can't imagine they would give you 300$ off on the 20$ a month plan, as that would be only 120$ over the course of a year. Speaking of this. I would probably get a data plan permanently if they rolled data over.
You mean 240$?

$300 off the price? That's not a bad deal if you can get the $20/month plan. $500 + roughly $275 plus taxes over the course of 12 months versus $800 + $55 plus taxes all at once.
Reading from "Best Buy News" which I assume is something internal, the girl in mobile confirmed that only month-to-month data plans were available from Verizon at this time. She confirmed that they have ZERO word of any sort of 1 year or 2 year commitment or subsidy.
