Dash 3G - File Sharing Issue - Dash 3G, Snap General

I have a Dash 3G that can successfully connect to my home network. My issue is that I am trying to use file explorer to enter a UNC path, but it is no where to be found.
I even noticed that the keypad is missing the '\' button. I would love to be able to get to my music from my phone.

Use Total Commander or Resco instead.
The \ can be found by hitting the SYM key ( the pound sign # )

I am using Resco Explorer 2007 and do not see an option to input a UNC?

As far as I know, you cannot browse a network from any Windows Mobile Standard device.

What about accessing music through Windows Media Player?

Pocket player (with the plugin) will let you stream music from you PC to your device.

my network places

I have recently purchased an o2 xda mini s, and have been browsing through this site for about a week. been very impressed. i have a question for you - is there anyway of accessing my computer through the wireless lan? EG accessing the computer hard drive, and playing a film on the xda. thanks ben
Yes there is but I'm not sure how to do it on a "Vanilla" WM5 machine. I use Resco Explorer which is a commercial application but allows you to move the "Network" folder below "My Device" and connect to shared drives. These shared drives over the network (GPRS / WiFi / USB Active Sync etc) will then show up in ANY program which has a file browser.
I'm sure there is a way of doing it on a plain machine but Resco Explorer is so much easier and nicer for any kind of file manipulation....
nice one, im looking into it now
ok iv got resco, and im connected. i can see the network places, and i can acess my shared folder, but when i try to open a music file, media player opens and says the parameter is incorrect? anyone know what this means?!
You're right you know!
This is the only app on my device that has this problem (Well no surprises there seeing as it's MS s/w!)
I am using both Pocket Music and TCPMP (Free!) for video / music (TCPMP does both) and neither have that problem over the network.
Also try MortPlayer as that is another excellent skinnable player for FREE....
TCMP will access shared folders/files. Or should that be \\computer\shared_folder\media.files It works pretty well over wifi for me. If you are happy to create your playlist on your pc and stream to the PocketPC then Microsoft media encoder will do the job. I'm just looking into Orb www.orb.com which should allow me to view/listen to my media anywhere I have access to the internet on my Wizard.
Hope this helps,
Al
thats great, got tcpmp running really smooth, even without cutting the resolutions down. im very impressed. is there a way to make tcpmp the default application? iv always had symbian phones uptil now-which are considerably more stable, but not quite as manipulative iv noticed.
one other thing, is i had a prog for my symbian device that put my desktop up on the screen and gave me total control of the pc with it, do u kno of another app that will do this on ppc? thanks so much!

Change the file associations in tcpmp under options/settings/
thats great thanks!
Did some searching and found this older thread.
Basically, I was wondering if any body knows of a free prog, or reg hack, to make the network folder visible and then allow mapping the network drive?
I found an older prog caller NetRunner, from a Spanish site. It works on my older wm2003 devices (though it always asks for my pass work even if I tell it to save it) And it will work on my MDA, but I can only access the network drive through net runner. It won't show up in file explorer.
So any ideas? Thanks
Ok, Never mind.... I feel sheepish!
I have GSfinder installed and it allows you to show the network folder and to map the drive................
One question about it though- even time I soft power down the phone and turn it back on and try to browse my network drive it keeps asking for my password. Even if I tell it to save it..any way to fix this?
Thanks

This usually means that the music file type is not supported by windows media player. ie: asx,m3u,etc. In file explorer, does the music file you're trying to play have the wmp icon, or some other player icon beside it?

Network Media Player?

Hello guys, new to the forum, and new to Windows Mobile, so please be gentle!
I have a networked hard-disk in the house with about 20GB of media on it, and I was hoping that there would be a way for me to map the drive within Windows Mobile, when connected over WiFi.
Doesn't seem to have worked. I managed to browse the drive using Total Commander (which is one stop further than I ever got on my N95), but when I try and launch an mp3, I get an error in WMP. I suppose I could use TotalCommander to sideload the files onto the X1, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having the central-drive then.
Anyone got any ideas? Are there any media players which can play networked files over WiFi? Are there any clever network settings or tweaks which I am missing?
As a random aside, has anyone managed to do anything clever between the X1 and the Playstation 3? E.g. media streaming, or even better, using the X1 as a blu-ray \ media remote for the PS3?
I had hoped seeing as how they were both Sony that there would be some clever convergance. Or am I being rediculously optimistic?
Try core player..
It's the best. I play movies from my NAS navigating with Total Commander..
Not quite the same, but I've been using Orb to stream to my X1, that uses your internet connection if you want, and gives you access anywhere, not just at home.

Thanks for the tip.
Just to be sure... you navigate using TotalCommander, and open the file in Core Player and it plays across the network? This would be exactly what I was looking for.
Shame there is no demo of Core Player to try it out. :-(
get Conduit Pocket Player, and stream the media files via UPNP.
- Core Player really works. I use it too.
- Pocket Player is ok too, but it doesn't support XviD, DivX etc.
I am using Total Commander but cannot find how to map/access netwroked drives. How to do it?
I have 6 500 GB hard networked drives (yes total of 6 TB) of media files which I can access on networked laptops and stand alone media players. It will be very good if I can access them from my Xperia as well.
I was wondering how you see the files with total commander as well?
Via the LAN plugin.
For me on my home network I just entered the machine name and up popped the shared folders.
Video files didn't stream fast enough though for me, but a nice way to move files from phone to PC without cables.
Still cannot find it. I am connected to the my home network and can access the internet and get e-mails on the X1. But cannot see the shared drives on my desktop!
I looked for the LAN plugin but could not find it.
FOUND it, but I can see only some and not all shared drives. That is a start!

Does CorePlayer also work in Landscape on your X1? It doesn't on mine, the screen is distorted...

Load Total Commander. Get to the root of the phone \
Here in the directory view you should have at the top \\Plugins
Open this "folder" and inside you should have LAN, open this "folder" and you should be able to do a _Quick open here just enter the machine name, you'll be prompted for a username and password (leave blank if not required) and the shared directories should be visible.
I follow that through and can see the music on the network drive. But when I click on a song to play it, Windows Media Player returns with an error:
"Incorrect Parameter"
I assume Total Commander is passing the path of the file as a command line parameter into WMP, but this is incapable of seeing the network drive, therefore can't resolve the path.

Does either Core or Pocket Player work with a DLNA server such as TVersity? I seem to recall DLNA support being mentioned for the X1 around the time it was announced last year.
I too would be interested to see if Sony comes up with a way to interface the X1 with the PS3, possibly using Remote Play a'la the PSP.

Pocket Player has DLNA support the last I know (UPnP).
Coreplayer is supposed to have the support but I think the developers had push out the timeline to have this support. Or maybe they have already includd in their latest version and I'm not aware of.

I managed to launch a song into WMP successfully yesterday, when I took a look at the properties the file location was
\\megadrive\my documents\my music\album\track.mp3
Does it have a limit on the size of the shared drives?
I can see drives of 60 GB and play video and music but not the 500 GB drives!
Any ideas?
Wouldn't have thought so. It's reading my 250gb

stream with my pc music?

is it possible to access the music playlists on my pc with the hd2 over wifi?
I don't think play lists will work, but using as different file manager such as resco you can map network drives and play music from them.I do this with both a music and a video folder using resco.
i cant see my pc as a device on my wifi list. want to know how to cennect my hd2 to the pc using wifi. i am using my home wifi network with no problems.
No you wont see it as a device
On your PC, share a folder with some music in it, , lets say your pc is called 'comp' and the folder is called 'muzic'. Share that folder, then on your phone, (using resco, i dont use anything else but the principle is the same)
on your phone, in resco you go to 'my network', click 'map network drive' and you should see your pc as an item on your network. click that, it should show the shared folder muzik and you should be able to click that to set it as a mapped folder. If you have username/password on your pc, it will ask for that info.
On mine, it doesn't always show properly the network shares, so i have to put the shared folder in manually, using \\comp\muzik
wow that is amazing, thx for that. I can access all folders from my pc and view/listen to them directly on the hd2 using wifi including pictures, documents and music.
I continue to be impressed with this phone.
An iPhone user recently showed me that he could control his music collection from his phone and get it to play through his sound system from the pc. I dont suppose there is anything similar in winmo?
heh yea. love it.
I'm sure you can probably do the control stuff, maybe win media player can do it, or maybe media center has an extender.I never do stuff like that so I cant help there.
you can always go down the remote desktop method of control.

Setting up to play music over wifi, WM6.5

I have my HD2 and my home pc connected to the same wifi router, and basically i want to use the media player on the HD2 to access music files on the home pc. Now, i have managed to use resco explorer's network function to map the shared folder, and i can open it in resco, tap a music file, and play it, but how to play a whole album/folder, like i normally do in the media player? Its almost as if i need a proper path available in the system's own file explorer, which i can then select in any application?

I just use Orb so other than that no idea.
Nice. Just trying orb out now, just a bit curious as to why it's free, and on such an expensive looking server and ui as well!?? Where do they get their money?

[Q] View media over wifi network

Ok. I have a wifi network at home, and attached to that I have a WDmybook Network storage device that all of my laptops and desktop get movies and mp3's from. I want to be able to view avi's over my wireless network on my HD2. I AM able to browse the network and SEE the media files in the file system, BUT I cannot play them. I just upgraded my handset from HTC-SHadow and was hoping with winmo 6.5 this could be done.. also, it would be cool if I could watch my DVD's that I have ripped and stored on the NAS as well.. that would be awesome..
thank so much in advance..
I Have the same question, I also use SamsungMedia without sucess. Any idea ?
The solution is TCPMP
Google TCPMP, I would post a link, but I am new and this system does not allow it..
TCPMP is a WinMO app that plays meda over a wireless LAN. Just install the cab, then open it.. you can find it installed in the Start Menu, then click the + sign to open the file browser, drill down through your network and click the file and enjoy.
If you are browsing over your wifi LAN, you must use UNC path
\\device-name\folder\video.avi
SO in my scerario, I do this
\\WD-MYBOOK\video\video10.avi
The cool thing is that once you close TCPMP, and you open it back uip later, it opens in the same directory you were in before.
My needs have been satisfied.
