Change SMS sound - HD2 General

Hey guys,
I have looked threw the forum and could not spot anything about changing the SMS sound on the HD2. Is this possible? If I have missed a post or tip somewhere explaining about this apologies for the repeat post.
Cheers

Take a look in sound & notification

Go to settings then press menu then choose all settings then choose sounds and notifications then go to the notifications tab and on the event drop down box choose message: new message and then select your sound

What the first poster says is how will he add more sounds as sms alarms....
If he means this he/she should add the file he likes in Device Memory\Application Data\Sounds and then search the sounds through sound and notifications

hi
you need to put the sound in wav format and place it into your windows directory. these will then be available for you to select in sounds and notifications. the ringtone files can just be put in the windows/rings folder or the rings folder in my docs

I've got mp3 files in the "my documents" folder on my device, and they show up in all the notification and ringtone lists.

new sms sound

hello! how can i import wav file to be my new sms file. i can change ring tone but can't seem to know where to put the file for the os to make it into the list for new sms message tone. unless we can't.
terence
well so far i've found no way to add new sounds to the normal pda nonSpc phone sounds and notification
not sure why that is
new sms sound is possible
I have stated elsewhere on this forum that I've used a Butler style voice saying 'There's a message for you' (halmsg)
I have also changed my general notifications to a sexy girl's voice saying 'Open your eyes! (open your eyes)
& here's a cool ring tone (Pearl & Dean)
but how do you make them apear on the list ? in sounds and notifications ?
i tried looking for every post you ever made in your profile to find the post but found only a post where you said you changed it not how
I like the pearl and dean sound - can you make it available for download please - thanks
anything you have in your browser window (well most things anyway)
are first transfered to your pc
look in
dokuments & settings\[Name]\local settings\Temporary Internet Files\
the wma file should be in one of those dirs in temp internet files
along with all the gif's and jpg's and such that www pages have on them
1. For a wav/wma file to appear as ring tone, PASTE the file into your RINGS folder under WINDOWS on your device.
2. For the file to appear as SMS sound notification, PASTE the file into the WINDOWS folder on your device.
3. To achieve change other notofication not included in the notification list, use any registry editor and change the SOUNDS entry in your registry to point exactly what you want to be played.

ok thanks

SMS Alerts

Greetings all,
Am loving my new O2 xdaII mini but am trying to come to grips with using functions which are unlike my mobile...
I have a bucket load of questions but will start easy on you guys
Can I change my SMS alert? I always miss my incoming texts and can I put in my own mp3's as ringtones?
Cheers all
marto
hey this is pretty basic stuff and both answers to your questions can be found within both in the "help" function in your Magician and in the handbook that comes with it.
quick & dirty answers:
yes you can change the alert, START -->SETTINGS-->SOUNDS & NOTIFICATIONS -->(on the bottom of the screen you can see 2 tabs "sounds" and "notifications) CHOOSE "NOTIFICATIONS"
in the "EVENT" drop down box select the event, then select sound in the drop down box nex to the "PLAY SOUND" check box.
the notification only detects ".wav" files so if there's a midi or an mp3 you wish to use here you must convert it first.
THIS IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH YOUR RINGTONE! MP3z can be used for your ringtone, just not for alerts - i don't know why maybe someone has found a fix to this. Remember that whatever wav you use it will play the entire length so pick something appropriate, you wouldn't want the entire length of a song to play out everytime you get a sms.
To use a MP3 as your ringtone, place the mp3 in the MY DEVICE --> WINDOWS --> RINGS folder.
then following the same instruction as above to change your alerts, you can select you "incoming call" ringtone. Once you moved your mp3 that you want to use as your ringtone into the "rings" folder you should be able to select it from the "sounds & notifications" list. If not, try a soft reset then try again.
check out the manual, it's pretty useful and you won't have to wait for someone to reply.
Cheers for that,
I had seen the "sounds" and "notifications" but the choices are really basic and wanted to put my own in. Will give your instructions a go
Thanks for your help.
Ok I got the ringtones working and my downloaded .wav files are on the list but when choose "Messaging: New text message" under events the downloaded .wav files are no longer on the list??
Tried a soft reset aswell...
Just in case anyone else was having similar issues, I found that on my PC if I dropped the .wav file into the "My Device -> Windows" folder it then comes up in the list.
Thanks for you help with getting me started Xilicon

Adding Event Sounds

Hi. Can someone advise me whether it is possible to add additional sounds to this device to be used, for example, as SMS text alert sounds? Can these sounds only be in WAV format? I have tried to add an .amr sound effect but it doesn't appear in the drop down list of sounds. I have successfully added a ringtone however.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to add to the list of sounds for event notifications?
Thanks very much
CUSTOM ALERTS
hi i have found eveything iv needed so far on this site, (Thanks to all) as this is my first post.
I to would like to be able to add my own alerts for sms, mms, email and so on. im assuming theres a folder somewhere i can place them but and a reg tweek to allow access or is it as easy as formating the files to wav and placing them in the right dir??
Thanks again THE SOUNDSHARK
If you take your .wav formatted file and dump it in the Windows folder, you can use it as a sound for notifications. Go to Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications. Under the Notifications tab you can change what plays for certain events, like new text or new MMS.

***Sorry for the double post. Gotta get my numbers up somehow. ***
so do i just put them in the rings dir?
no. put them here...
My Device >>>> Windows. put them anywhere in here and they will be found (WAV Files only)
i added a gotmail.wav to the Windows folder it appears in the Notification screen but it won't play when testing it.
I am the same, I put the files in the Windows directory, can play it when I click on it, can select it as a notification but it won't play when needed.
anyone know how to fix this problem?
I had this problem and it turned out to be the audio format of the wav file.
On your PC, right-click on your problem wav file and select properties.
Click on the summary tab and you'll see "Audio Format".
I don't know why but one's recorded/ripped with "PCM" audio format work and ones with "MP3" don't!
p.s. This is my first post, got my O2 mini S two weeks ago and found this forum very helpful.

Copy the MP3 file to My Device/My Documents
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications Tab
Tap the Event dropdown and choose "Messaging: New text message"
Make sure "Play sound" is ticked, and tap the dropdown to choose your sound.
Your MP3 filename *should* be there.
Tap the play button to test that it is the right one, then tap OK.
You now have an MP3 sound for your text notification.

how do i change message ringtone to mp3?

how do i change message ringtone to mp3? someone help me plssssssss!
hey
just put the .mp3 in the documents folder on your phone
you should have a My Documents\My Ringtones (preferred) or there is a Windows\Rings, either one will do.
then go to settings, sounds, notifications tab, from Event: drop down select Phone: Incoming call.

the Q is for atext message not an incoming call..
So this won't help.
As far as i now, you cannot use an mp3 for this.
change it into a WAV frmat and it will work.
it might be possible you need to put it in a special location (such as the windows folder or the my documents folder)
Yeah it's possible,
either do as gazzacbr said, but choose "Messaging: New text message" you can change almost all the phones sounds here...
I preffer this easier way (for me)
Slide to settings > Press Sounds > Scroll to bottom for "Notification Sounds" > Press the notification you want to change and select it off the list
If the mp3 isnt listed then use the FileManager, find your mp3 and hold down on it, when the menu appears scroll down to "Set as Ringtone" which actually just puts it in on the list of selectable tones. Then simply repeat the steps above.
- I should probably note, I downloaded an update off HTC's website that had something to do with MP3 ringtones but I could initially do this beforehand anyway.

I can't find it... can you please put it here?
He said he wants a mp3 to be used as a new text message tone. this is something even i wanted to ask, but well it cant be done. tried everything. the patch is for something else. tried putting it into my ring tones folder, tried putting the mp3 (a 26sec file) into windows ring folder but na nothing, restarted still nothing. the only thing i think will work is to try converting it into .wav format.
@rvrosa its there in touch2 support.
it can be done. i currently use a MP3 file as my SMS alert, and a different MP3 as my email alert.
If my previous technique doesnt work, copy the desired MP3 to the root of your microSD card. It will automatically list it in the selectable ringtones
under mobile device go into the folder that says application data then the folder that says sounds, put the mp3 in there and you should be able to select it for your sms.
