[REQ] Info >>>> best rom? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

atm im having problems since i hsdp or w/e its called my hd2...
im using...
o.s 5.2.21864
manila 2.5.19202525
rom 1.43.110.2 wwe
radio 2.06.50.04
and i want to change to somethin with more relibility?

What i understand you have stock ROM on youre device. Try the "new" 1.48 ROM. You can find it on HTC.com.
If you feel a little more exprimental you could try one of the cooked ROMs. Cant tell you witch one, its a matter of taste (and recommending ROMs isnt so popular. I think you understand why).

As life says: The best ROM will always be the one you have at the moment you ask. Because you have this and no other.
Trying others will let you have an experience, and you will finally come up with a decision of your own, simply according to your own taste and needs.

ohhh so i have standard rom ? i did flash it, but i think thats just so it makes it so im allowed to install roms ?
ive just used trixy one ? or sumthing, really really fast :O

Yeah, it seems you are on a standard ROM.
Check the stickies in this forum about how to flash.
Then check the ROM threads of all chefs - you will find descriptions and pictures of what they made.
And, btw, all of those ROMs are fast, really fast, mainly because HD2 is such a fast machine.
There will be one main difference though: More experimental ROMs using beta builds of WinMo and Manila, and others. Reading the threads will tell you about all the issues, pros and cons.
If you want something close to what you are used, look for WinMo 21xxx builds.

To make a backup of your contacts, messages, mails etc., I would recommend using PPC PIM Backup (search with google, easy to find), it´s free and does a bit more than synching with MyPhone.
Plus, there is software you can buy which goes even further, such as Sbp Backup.
Up to you to choose - as a frequent flasher, I do like both solutions, to some extent, for ROM testing, the paid solution might be more helpful sometimes.

Which ROM maker do you prefer?

Feel free to tell us why you prefer him, which version do you think he made better and why.
What applications would you like to see in his next version?
What applications you'd like to see removed on his next version?
Important note: This is a thread NOT meant to diminish anyone or his skills, or the other way around. It's meant for people to compare the pros and cons on their ROMs, helping them make better ones, and helping the users decide which one they see most fit to their purposes.
Everyone is voting, but no one has yet given any reasons why to like or dislike someone's ROM.
Come on people, I bet they want feed back, and so do we!
I only used bepe's and udK's ROMs, and for a very short period. I think bepe's ROMs are great because he makes 4 different versions with different applications in them. Right now I'm using latest Vega R1 from udK and liking it, but I'm looking forward some minor bug fixing (like the italian text in the cube) in next R2.
I tried many swtos, bepe and udk ROMs...
Result for me is that udKs ROM is without erros, fast and very stable
Ok, after trying all of them i cocluded to udK's R1 because apart from the fact that it is very fast and stable, it has a different design and looks than all the other common ROMs.
I prefer to see something new except that full-light-skinny, etc!
I Would suggest cookers to have a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390543
So i guess we need some new ideas!!!

Indeed, there is, but with particular ROM and not the latest ones. I created this one so people could express how they feel with the ROMs they've been using over the time. And especially for people to discuss what they like more and/or less in the ROMs, so it can help cookers do their job even better, and to help the new guys (like myself) understanding what they should want on the ROMs they install.
The builds, the applications, the stability of the OS, everything should be discussed here. Even though there are hundreds of other threads to do so.

I Agree with athanaso..some new ideas like TOM..
I prefer Infido but he's not in the choices nice, essential and fast ROM.
So i voted Bepe
I agree with new stuff and appearance, if they don't affect the overall performance of the device. It's always great to see a new face on our handheld.

I'm sorry about that. I only made the Poll with the top 5 contributors on this board (at least the most recent ones). I also tried a ROM previous to bepe and udK's, but don't know who made it. A friend gave it to me, and it was nice. But I prefer the udK's.
On the bepe's ROM I tried, 0.67 Opera, I had an issue with the Opera installed which didn't let me Zoom In / Zoom Out more than once. It's a fixed Zoom, and sometimes I need to Zoom just a bit and I couldn't. Also tried to install the latest Opera Mobile on that ROM, but couldn't get that feature to work.
Since udK's does not provide Opera browser, when I installed the latest version, it gave me the option to Zoom at will. That was the main reason I stuck with it.
Btw, since you people test a whole lot of ROMs, can you please tell me how do you backup stuff from one to another? I tried to backup email accounts and GPRS connections once, from one ROM to the next one, but couldn't get it to work properly. Is there a tool which is compatible with any ROM?
Thanks.
Voted 4 bepe for the qualtity and the versatility of his ROM.
He has 4 lines of ROM in 5 Languages.
My vote would go to udK cuz the ROM is a lil better than bebe's...but there is only 1 version in only 1 language

we need a poll? The best udk's rom
UDK's rom is super fast...but I use bepe's simply because I don't like the soft new key and also when you press on the email icon on home screen it goes to messaging and not direct to email like on bepe's rom...Have I know how to change that I'd probably go with UDK's ROM

Cause bepe has longer history in this forum. He is a well known cooker (from previous devices also) and all XDA community respect that.

comparison list of cooked Roms wanted

I kind of loosing the overview of what Rom contains what feature and what unsolved bugs.
I'd like to have an overview table/chart where one can see all features for each ROM
Beside this, I get the impression none of the cooked ROMs is working bug-less. It seems to be a neverending problem which eventually get forgotten when new XDAs coming out /
Yep, I second that...but I think the best answer to this is: Test yourself, flash 3 different ROMs and compare your own. Nobody here knows which apps you are using, which version, which language. There are many things which can cause problems, so it´ll be best for you to test each of the ROMs for a week or so.
For me M-Amine is quite a good ROM, I think maybe udK Syrius R1 (+the fixes, see extra thread) is even better..but as I said: compare your own, even if its time-intense.

Martin

reasons???
I tried almost all roms except ANIME now i'm with TouchIT 3.6 and its great
Maybe we can make some form so ppl can fill and then some1 will put it all together so we have table of each rom speed bugs etc.
Maybe something like this:
ROM | WM VER | RADIO VER | STUFF NOT WORKING | FIX AVAILABLE/NOT | SPB BENCHMARK ................. something like this
Its like heads of columns, would be great in excel or some thing like this then you'll collect all reports and make one file
@ bnm7bnm: would be a lot of work..and who do you think would do this work ? I suggested something similar when I came new to this forum, but nobody of the chefs showed any interest, I just got offended and was advised just to read the threads xD

'cause it's stable, fast, freeze rarely, i like full black skin and with a little cab you can see videos from Photo Tab.
Here it is the cab :

i love and hate my touch HD

big screen what can i say..
however, recently it is starting to hang...
usually when trying to unlock..
and it became slower..
any idea why?
---
the video and camera belongs to the bin too...
camera has almost 0 functionality and video is choppy and blur...
can tweaks?
thanks buddy
do u have any custom roms on it? i personally expected the performance to be better when i had the stock rom. but then after flashing a while, i love the blackstone.. so try custom roms maybe untill u find one that gives u the performance that u like on it.
i do not have a custom rom.. was afraid of stability /security problems.. do they really make the hd faster?
Yeah really do they make hd faster? If yes which one is the best for normal usage??
The ROM:s here @ xda are the main reason I did not sell/scrap my HD long ago. With stock ROM, I think this unit is slow, ugly and just bad.
Look around, a lot of ROM:s here are sooo much faster than stock. I promise you will never go back.
For the best speed experience, I recommend using a 6.1 ROM with 2.1 Manila. I can not point out any speficic one obvious, take a look in the charts already suplied in the ROM part of this forum.
I am using a win 6.5 ROM for the moment, but speed is a bit lower.
Good luck!
try using a wm 6.5 based energy rom 2.1 manila

I agree. The stock rom is a piece of Sh*t. After swapping to a custom ROM, you'll never look back. Don't be disheartened if you get one with glitches. Just keep trying different ones until you are happy with one.
The first couple of times it may seem slow and cumbersom changing ROM's but after a while you realise how easy it really is. Just remember to backup important data first.
Good luck
seriouslly even if i use a latest stock rom?

Haha you're a senior member here but you don't get it. Custom roms on XDA is the reason why I choose HTC and windows mobile. I used to hate windows mobile alot, but once I found out about its portability, customizing my phone has been my hobby. Thanks to XDA, the crappy old hermes I had made my friends jealous.
On why folks like these guys here can make a better rom than htc, you have to flash one to find out. I once read an article from mircosoft that reads something like this "microsoft cant live with XDA-devs, but at the same time, can't live without them".
Try one but make sure u follow the steps especially the Olinex part. Good luck

I own WinMo devices since HTC Wallaby. I am not very long with HD, just recently bought it.
My Opinion WinMo is like Windows on your desktop, after while it gets slower and slower and Reformat (hard reset) is the best thing to do to bring it back.
I also would suggest you to use one of the cooked ROMs here. Again my Opinion W6.5 is eye candy and my own experience is that is not that Stable, and fast as WinMo 6.1 ROMs. Furthermore I really don’t see jet the major usability improvement in 6.5
I am business user and I need a very stable Device. I flashed with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537948 very happy with it
hahaha good one bout me being senior..
yes i know .. i just dont understand why the companies themselves dont strive to make the best one lol
and for the rom..
yes buddy i used the same as u ...3.55 but how do i get the usual start menu back..
Again most 6.5 roms are very stable now and are ready for everyday use, if you are after a fast rom that is similar to your default rom, try Topix 2.9.2, it is currently the fastest ROM running 6.1 according to speed tests = Search the forums for performance tests.
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/touch-hd/best-rom-for-htc-touch-hd.html
You will be more than happy flashing the latest 6.5 roms, just make sure you don't get any manila 2.5/2.6 roms as people have previously expressed they are still not as stable as the 2.1 roms.
Research, read and flash which rom you feels best suits your needs, or looks the nbest etc. In the end not everyone has same tastes, so you may find that you flash a few roms before settling on one you really like. By then you will probably have become a flashaholic like everyone else. Either way you'll have a better phone.

Which is the best Leo Rom?

seriously guys, i sold my HTC Hero for HD2. i would really like to know which is the best rom for Leo for time being. one more thing, is there a phone manager or some reliable software that i can sync google contacts straight to my Leo besides using outlook? all informations are appreciate and if this is a duplicate thread, please forgive me. its been long time since i moved to android.
It's all down to choice, some like the Stock ROMs. Others, like me, prefer cooked ROMs are they take out the crap that a stock ROM comes with. Personally I'm using a ROM called CleanEx which is stripped of pretty much all the 'crapware' on the phone so you can install only what you want. It's an early ROM but stable and leaves a lot of space to install your own apps. See my sig for a link to it.

The "lady from O2" obviously doesn't know what she's talking about. 1.66 was almost infinitely better than 1.48 in both stability and speed.
I'm using Dutty's HG v0.8 and could not recommend it more. It's fast, solid, and has a lot of tiny things done to it, like segregating the start menu into folders, and some nice new icons on some things. It also comes with the document tab and eReader tab.
Dutty FTW!
As for Google contacts, I only know of using Outlook to sync them, but I don't use my gmail much anyway, so can't really advise you on that.
true 1.66 much more stable than 1,48.. I think it's even more stable than 2.10
yeah.. I love dutty 0.8.. Tried dutty 1 but I think 0.8 is more stable
only reason I changed from HG v1.0 was that SMS Sent notification - Miri's WinMo 6.5 ROM was also awesome but CleanEx I'm on now is really good. Literally no crap on it at all and stable as anything too so far...few issues with aesthetics but they can be addressed
You can easily sync your contacts, mail and calendar from gmail with Activesync. I use it, and it works perfect.

Some Rom Advice!

Hi,
I have done a search but not really come up with what I was looking for.
My friend flashed his phone with one of the latest Energy GTX Themed Roms. I'm thinking of doing the same, but wondered if someone might be able to help me with several concerns I have.
Firstly, his battery now seems to drain a fair bit faster than it used to, and I'm told that might be related to the Radio. Does anyone have any experience on what might be a good .50 radio (I've heard .51's can crash the phone) that may have better battery life?
Secondly, I notice that the Rom has quite a lot of additional programs, which appear to be fully integrated into the Rom, programs such as Palringo, etc. I've gone to add/remove programs, but there is nothing in there. Just one program called 'unknown1'. There are quite a lot of programs I really wouldn't want taking up space on there, so this is one of my concerns.
On the flip side, am I able to install pretty much any program that I would on my current Stock rom'd phone? I download quite a lot from Marketplace, Omarket, etc and wondered if I had to be careful with a cooked Rom in case of compatibility issues.
Finally, one of the biggest 'plus' points I've noticed on his new Rom, is on the Email tab. It appears that he can reply and delete emails without actually having to open them. Is there anyway to get this function on my stock rom?
Thank you so much for any help you can give!

I am told your battery will drain faster using an EngeryROM, they are all bells and whistles, I have never flashed anything but an EnergyROM so I can't say any different. And flashing an EnergyROM without first changing your radio to a 2.xx.50.xx will brick your phone, so you must, must change the radio first.

Your stock ROM is more unstable than a cooked ROM, so you can install whatever you like on the cooked one.
