Ok I been reading alot about people having a problem getting gapps on there phone. I tried all I read none work. Here is what I'm working with. Rooted using unrevoked, I downloaded Tom manager and used it to get cyangenomod 6 r2. I had to download with out that Google app. Checked because it wouldn't load with it. I have downloaded the gapps file from some diffrent places. I see the files when I do clockwork recovery boot. When I apply it I can get. All the way to the screen with the android it says touch to begin but when u touch it just lights up and.nothing happens. If I back up and reflash the rom with the Google app checked it will get to thescreen where it has the blue Droid says cyangenmod with the circle spinning around and it will never load. But with no gapps it loads fine. Please help this is use less with no market.
Did you wipe data before installing the ROM?

I don't understand...it's simple. Download the gapps package to your phone, move it to the root of your sdcard (i.e. /sdcard) then boot into clockwork, install zip from flash card, choose zip, choose the gapps package and voila.
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip
The exact steps to follow:
1. Root with unrevoked.
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Install CM6.1 RC2
4. Install gapps
5. Reboot device and everything should work nicely.

It might be worth his while to boot into the ROM after flashing it, then boot back to clockwork and flash the gapps package.
This is what. II see the zip file and u click it and it say installed syccesfully Bujumbura when u reboot it never loads to my home screen.

dujumbura? What are the procedures you are following to flash the package? Are you using ROM manager? Do you have your phone plugged into USB while booting into clockwork? gotta be a little more specific my friend.

Sorry that word was a typo lol. I used rom manager to get the rom. I download the gapps to my SD card using the browser on my phone.
I go into clockwork to install the gapps and reload cygeno. Is this correct way?it works fine all but Google apps.

Are you using ROM manager to install gapps? If you are, don't. Just use clockwork. I understand it's the long way, and its somewhat of a pain compared to using ROM manager...but i've read about a lot of people having issues with doing things like this via ROM manager...
Ok here is what I just did. I downloaded the above link. I turned my phone off booted into clockwork. Found the above file. Installed it. Rebooted. It loaded. Past the cygeno screen where it then asked me if I wanted to back up with Google I checked no. Then hit continue. It goes to a screen says welcome to libirty. Touch the android to start. A little hand is touching. II do this and nothing happens. I downloaded with my phone browsers.

Should I just start fresh and do all his from a PC from the start. What do I do just format my memory card an restore from the very first restore?
Ok I'm posting to let any one know that may have this problem. I fixed this easy. I just downloaded the gapps for my phone straight from my phone browser except I got the tiny one instead. Clockwork, zip file, install the zip, reboot, bam all Google apps there. For some reason the tiny was the right one for my phone.

I rooted my nexus one using one click root, installed Rom Manager, flashed the clockworks mod recovery. Then i went to the CM 7 nightlies and got the latest one on the list it was #9 i believe. Everything went fine, it said it got an update, so i click download it was #37, i click on make a backup and didn't check the option that wipes.
Now it wouldn't boot. It gets to the X while booting and then just shuts off. I tried going into fast boot and click on recovery and it show the X again and then shuts off.
Could i some how connect it to my pc and wipe the whole thing so i could start fresh?

ok so i restored using passimg method.
Rooted again, but this time rom manager wont do anything it just keeps saying an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands! i went into Superuser, and rom manager is not listed under Apps. Is there a way i could manually add apps to Superuser?

got it to add permissions again, had to remove fix_permissions.log from my sd card, and then click on fix permissions in rom manager again.
Going back to CM 6.1.1 till 7 is stable again i guess.
Now everything seems to be working great. I flashed gapps 20101114 in hopes that it would update to the new market but no luck. Is there any other way to update to the new market? i also updated maps, that didn't help either.
I have the same issue as the OP. My N1 currently will not boot passed the "X" screen. I have a locked bootloader, so I tried using the PASSIMG.zip method from the link that was provided. I downloaded the FRG33 stock build from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One/Roms. After the PASSIMG.zip was checked, I get an error stating "Main Version is older!" and the update failed. Any ideas how to get past this point?

Ok guys so here is a little something i have been working on for yall. some of you may know rom manager and all its abilities (download roms and flash them without needing a computer, aka "OTA custom roms") well its done. only one team has the roms up and listed right now. now here is for the issues;
-rom manager does not recognize anything but 2.5.1.0 which is the first version of cwm we had going. afaik there are no plans to let it see cwm3 on teh epic
-any roms put on the list will be under premium, sorry ive tried talking to koush but this means you would need to have rom manager premium
now i am hoping we can get more rom devs up on the list and push for cwm3 to be recognized so that users of a certain rom can get notifications of updates and download them via wifi/4g/3g whenever they want. obviously i dont expect people to pay for the premium rom manager when they cant get the free one working.
if any rom devs wish to have their roms added to the list i will not do it for you but after a couple of hours of screwing with the lists (they are javascript.... >.<) i can offer some help on what may not be working. i am in the irc channels almost all the time, if you cant reach me there then shoot me a pm..
P.S. you may be wondering why i posted this in general eh? because this is partially for devs, but its for the users of the epic.. if this is a feature you want then yall need to speak up cuz as it stands now its pretty useless, im hoping by putting this out there that there will be enough of a cry for it that the situation gets handled and then everyone can use koush's awesome program

No no no. I'm a moron disregard what I said haha.
All thats happened is ROM Manager thinks I'm running 2.5.1.0 when I'm not.
But; shouldn't this just be a redirector issue?
right but even with it thinking you have 2.5.1.0, what version of cwm do you have? does it pop up and ask you to install cwm version x.x.x.x???
I'm running cwm 3 running ext4.
Rom manager works on the phone; but anytime it needs to go into cwm it fails.
It'll hang at the sammy logo. Pulling the battery and powering the phone up normally does the same.
However..doing the three button recovery boot it attempts to load cwm and fails then gives me the Triangle with an Exclamation point inside it..along with the green android.
so how do you get into recovery? also is it 3.0.0.5 or 3.0.0.6?

3.0.0.6
I'm unable to get into recovery through the manager it self. Once I do the three finger salute..it attempts to load and fails; I pull battery and just hold the power button and it loads into cwm.
ok so sounds like 3.0.0.6 is sorta working but we just need to be able to get into recovery normally now....
3.0.0.5 is confirmed to not be working at all
I would love this... had premium on my hero, but sadly I cannot use it on my epic.

Seems to me like it's just a redirector issue; but I've yet to dig into this too deeply so I could be wrong.
It seems to work fine..it just has issues loading directly into cwm.
Hey peeps hopefully someone here can help with almost similar problem.
I used one click root with cwm recovery 2.5.5 in both 2.1 DI18 and EB13. The recovery installed just fine on both.
When I download Rom manager from clockworkmod it doesnt detect that the recovery is installed. I cant do anything without installing the recovery according to ROM manager.
BUT it is installed! Why doesnt it detect it??
How can I get the rom manager to see that I do have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.5 installed?
Or is it not possible yet? I too am a suckered premium owner.

I don't think that ROM Manager can detect recoveries on the phones partitions. I believe it downloads and installs recovery to the sd card.
I some how managed to get an older recovery installed 2.5.1 But still get "an error occured while downloading your recovery." when I click any option and select samsung epic from the prompted list. In an attempt to install the recovery.
If it doesn't install to the fixed partitions how does it install the recovery to boot from? I thought thats where it had to be? That would mean the current recovery I have is in the SD card? then a simple edit of a file would allow it to be detected?

I believe ROM Manager uses the stock recovery to redirect to a zip file on the sd. If the redirector isn't set up right it won't work. The One-Clicks we use to install CWM install it to fixed partition.
I do see that the ACS team is on board with this, hope to see more support soon. On my buddies Fastinate there is quite a bit to work with in Rom Manager, it is a very cool option.
Thanks to all the Dev's

You are not able to enter CMW because you flashed a stock rom. When you flash stock rom you will lose the CWM recovery. To fix this install rom.manager and root your phone again because you have lost your root and recovery this will fix your problem

First root your device using an app z4root. Get it from your pc and transfer and install using filer. Go for a permanent root. Next, like said above, flash Clockworkmod using the Rom manager app. Download it to your system and copy it over to the sd card and install using filer again. Flash lateat Clockworkmod in Rom manager. After that,to enter clockworkmod, power off your phone and boot with power and vol- pressed. Since you're already Gen2,flash ONLY gen2 roms such as Cyanogenmod or gingerstirfry or swedish snow. And remember before flashing these files,do a Wipe data/factory reset in clockworkmod.

to root your phone all you need to do is have usb debugging enabled on your phone and download an application from your pc super one click all you have to do is connect your phone via the cable to the pc and click on the root button. This will root your phone from your pc directly.
Once you have root on your phone download rom manager nd install the latest CWM recovery and flash a rom of your choice best not to use stock roms because you will lose root and CWM recovery again

Hi
This is called clockworkmod recovery. It's used to flash (install) ROMs, tweaks, mods and Google Apps
Download any ICS GApps package (it'll usually be in the same thread you downloaded the ROM from)
Then place this GApps zip in your SD card. In recovery mode, select install zip from SD card, and then choose the zip you just downloaded

This How To will explain how you can root and install ClockworkMod on a stock Epic 4G (SPH-D700) running Gingerbread FC09 without a USB cable, Odin, and with or without a computer. My phones USB pins are busted, but otherwise it charges fine and works great. So I spent many determined days figuring out how I may eventually install CyanogenMod. This first requires getting ClockworkMod on the phone.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to follow the exact procedure below.
How will you get files onto your phones external sdcard?
Novice:
- Without a computer: Download files using a browser found in the Google Play Store: Firefox, Dolphin.
- With a computer: Email yourself the files and use your phones email app to save them to your sdcard.
- With a computer: Remove your external sdcard, insert it into an adapter, then insert/connect it to your computer to copy files to the sdcard.
Expert:
- With a computer: Its possible to access "offline files" with Google Drive, but its a bit cumbersome to find the file using a file manager.
- With WiFi and a computer: After gaining root, install the "WiFi ADB" app and download the Android ADB tools for your OS: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux
Transfer the following files to your sdcard (see attachments below):
- Framaroot-1.6.1.apk
- CleanGB_Kernel_0b28e9767b.zip
- cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.zip
Get Rooted:
- On your phone go to Settings -> Applications -> Check: Unknown Sources
- Install the Framaroot-1.6.1.apk package.
Install the following apps from the Google Play Store:
- SGS Kernel Flasher
- ROM Manager
Start SGS Kernel Flasher:
- Backup your stock kernel, but if you re-flash your stock kernel then you will need to repeat the following procedures.
- Choose Kernel -> Select CleanGB_Kernel_0b28e9767b.zip -> Flash Kernel
- Reboot
Start ROM Manager:
- Select Reboot into Recovery
Recovery Mode:
- Press the Settings icon: You should now be in CWM v3.1.0.1 (use volume up/down, camera to select, home to go back)

Congratulations you flashed ClockworkMod without USB or Odin!
What now? How about installing CyanogenMod? Well thats my next step and I highly suggest your phone already be activated, the PRL updated, data/contacts synced/backed up, and all services working before installing CyanogenMod stable. Otherwise, as of today (CM v10.1), you will need to temporarily boot into Samsungs FC09 in order to perform these functions.
I hope you find this How To helpful. Feel free to aks any questions, but please Google search for any "inbetween steps" that I have left out of this How To for the purpose of brevity.
Good luck!

This How To will explain how you can root and install ClockworkMod (CWM) on a stock Epic 4G (SPH-D700) running FC09 without a USB cable, Odin, and with or without a computer. My phones USB pins are busted, but otherwise it charges fine and works great. So I spent many determined days figuring out how I may eventually install CyanogenMod. This first requires getting ClockworkMod on the phone.
- You may backup your kernel, but if you re-flash your stock kernel then you will need to repeat the following procedures.
- Choose Kernel -> Select CleanGB_Kernel_0b28e9767b.zip -> Flash Kernel
- Reboot
Start ROM Manager:
- Select Reboot into Recovery
Recovery Mode:
- Press the Settings icon: You should now be in CWM v3.1.0.1 (use volume up/down, camera to select, home to go back)
- Select: install zip from sdcard -> toggle signature verification -> choose zip from sdcard -> cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.zip

Verify CWM Installed:
- Power off phone, wait a few seconds after vibration indicates phone is powered off.

This rooting method works, but i have a problem.
The kernel has the su binary installed, nd thats the problem; with a root checker it says no root access. Now i cant do anything else because everytime i do something to fix this issue, it stays the same after a reboot
Please help me

The purpose of the CleanGB kernel is to provide CWM v3.1.0.1. You only need to install Framaroot to root the phone.
I'm not exactly sure where you are stuck or what you are trying to achieve. I tried duplicating the process, but it is entirely possible that I made an error so any corrections are helpful.

Yes, im sorry that i have to make u go through all this trouble because maybe im doing this wrong..
What i was trying to say is that the kernel also has 'su' in /sbin (im not sure if this is the problem but in my galaxy s3 the 'su' is only located in /system/bin and /system/xbin)
I also read this article where it said that the 'su binary' isnt supposed to be in /sbin because in this case (what i think its saying is) that everytime it boots up the /sbin is part of the booting process. Here is the website link: htt p://a ndro idsu.co m (cant post links yet damn)
" People with the su binary located in /sbin have a much tougher time. I’ve found that these are mostly Samsung users (with the notable exception of the Nexus S). I don’t know why it’s done this way, and if anybody does know, please let me know, but for some reason kernel and ROM devs for these devices put su in /sbin. /sbin is part of the boot.img, and therefore any modifications to that directory will be erased on boot."
What i first did is installed Framaroot nd rooted the phone, then got excited because i had been trying to root it for like 2 years now with no success, so since i thought i knew what i was doing, i trailed off nd tried to install CWMR through Rom Manager then went into recovery nd for some weird reason it just put me in the stock android recovery so i knew something went wrong... Then i got scared nd tried to go back to your method nd installed the kernel flasher so i flashed the kernel, rebooted, nd then went into the superuser app. It said the SU binary needed to be updated (got surprised because it didnt say that before i flashed the kernel) i put continue nd it showed me an option to install it through TWRC/CWMR or install normally,so i chose through CWM nd it actually booted me up into CWM but then it said something about a command not working [it was some couple days ago so i cant remember what it said exactly] so i messed around with CWM and tried to installed CyanogenMod which i had downloaded previously, did the signature verification toggle off, but it still said installation aborted because of the command or something... Then i rebooted the phone nd then the problems started, in the superSU app i tried to install normally but it said installation failed... Got the root checker nd said su found in /sbin /system/bin and /system/xbin but i had no root access so i panicked nd tried to root it again with Framaroot, it said success nd i rebboted but it didnt work. I ran the root checker again nd it was the same. I tried to go back to a backup i did when i only had root without the kernel but(which by the way by the end of the backup it said couldnt make md5 sums)but idk why but it took me to the stock android recovery so i couldnt make a restore. I felt trapped cs i couldnt go back to before i had the kernel. With no root access i couldnt also do the restore to the stock kernel(SGS Kernel Flasher app) because i made a backup of it in case something went wrong.. Unfortunately it did so now with no root access i cant really do nothing anymore... I was thinking of using odin to go back to its original state, but then i remembered that it was impossible because odin never recognized my phone while in download mode... Im short in options on what to do please help, im still a noob
Can you try to do a factory reset from the stock recovery and start over?

Yes, thats exactly what i did two times but it didnt work because once you flash something theres no way to go back unless you have a backup and a way to restore it or is there a way i dont know of?? I also checked right after the factory reset in the settings nd it still had the same kernel, and the root checker still said the su binaries were installed in the 3 places i mentioned earlier nd still without root access

EDIT: If you have tried this procedure on a Galaxy S3 then I would suggest this discussion be continued on the appropriate forum.

I assume you've already tried uninstalling any SU-type packages?

Yes i did.. In the SuperSU app in the settings section it has an option to Full Unroot, nd i think it works but it has to reboot, and at the time of reboot, the kernel overrides it and gets rid of any modifications like getting unrooted..
Looks like im going to have to bear with this nd just leave it like that, besides i already have a rooted gs3

So your are running CleanGB? When you open ROM Manager and select "Boot into Recovery" does it boot into CWM v3 and are you able to flash CWM v5 or do you still get the error?

Yes i am running CleanGB nd when i use rom manager and select "Boot into Recovery" it does nothing because i dont have root access and that means it doesnt have permissions to boot into recovery, however i did also try to manually boot into recovery but it took me to the stock recovery.. Is this supposed to happen??

Yes that is normal.
I see you say you tried reinstalling Framaroot, but try reinstalling again. But don't reboot. Afterwards go straight into ROM Manager and select "Boot into Recovery" and if rooting was successful I believe it should boot into CleanGBs CWM v3 recovery.
It did boot up into CWM v3 nd i tried to flash the CWM v5 but there were these weird things, look ill show u a picture of it.

For some reason all the forums posts images are broken for me. It seems to be a 404 error.
Ok lets try this:
Make sure you are rooted (install Framaroot again if you need to, don't reboot) and start SGS Kernel Flasher and flash your backup backed up stock kernel and reboot. Then try following the procedure again from the top as described to try to install CWM. Rebooting your stock kernel may or may not fix these issues. If it doesn't then it may require finding a way to fix it via a Terminal app or other method.
I seem to be rooted in some ways but not in others
I installed Framaroot and it claimed success. However, that doesn't seem to be true according to the Root Checker app. I removed Framaroot, rebooted, reinstalled, and reran it with no difference. But what's weird is the first time it seemed to work, so I went ahead and tried to flash CleanGB and it worked. I'm currently running CleanGB.
The problem now is that when I ask ROM Manager to Boot into Recovery it won't do it, presumably because I don't have root access. What can I do next? Any suggestions are appreciated!

I would try reinstalling Framaroot (and don't reboot) then: Start ROM Manager->Reboot into Recovery

Sorry you're mistaken. You just posted a pic of CWM v3. So your "Reboot into Recovery" from ROM Manager worked.
Did you try what I suggested here to fix your errors?
