how to instal exe files without a computer - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

is there a way to install a file that downloaded as a exe file to my tilt 2 without a computer?

if its not a ppc exe then you need to look for a cab file instead. a pc exe will not run on your phone.

You might be able to extract the .cab from the PC exe on your phone, using 7zip for Windows Mobile.

Converting EXE to CAB for Extended ROM Auto-Install?

Hey Guys,
I have been customising my extended rom so when I hard reset I get all the applications I want (Resco file explorer etc). I have been doing this with .cab files fine.
The problem is that I have files which are .exe setup files (e.g Flash player 6). These have to be installed on the PC, and the cab is copied to the XDA and run. I would like to just have e.g a flash CAB file to put on the extended ROM.
is there a way to convert the PC EXE into a XDA cab file, or some way to run the PC exe on the device automatically in extended rom?
I know some .exe setup files can be extracted using winrar which then give you the cab file, flash player isnt one of them though.

Jez.

Use Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe) to look for the path where your Desktop Exes are extracted to PocketPC Cabs:
Look for this value:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"InstalledDir"="k:\system\hardware\pda\imate\ASync"
Now, open your Windows Explorer and go to the path. You will find your cabs in corresponding folders (e.g, folder MacromediaFlash shall contain Flash6.arm.cab and etc...)
If you need to do more complex restoration, use Restorator tool. It restores your directory and file structure, registry settings, installs cabs, writes boot screens and does everything nice...
Oh my god, you are both bloody geniouses!!
This is wicked, cheers guys!

Any other ways to xtracting & repacking to cab?
Renaming the file format (exe to any formats) & exe xtractor software doesn't work.
I can compress any data to .cab, but how to xtract perfectly exe files?
Convert EXE to Cab online without having to download any software
If you have an EXE file that you would normaly run on your PC to install a sofware... it looks like this online converter work to have it converted into a cab file for your cell phone!!!
try it!
1- first you need to compress your EXE file into a ZIP folder... that will create a ZIP file on your desktop.
2- then you go to http://media-convert.com/convert/
3- browse on the first field to determine witch file on your pc you want to convert .. select the ZIP file you just created...
4- on the second part of the page you will be ask what format you want to convert your ZIP file to .. on the scrolldown menu select . CAB... and hit the convert button .. the online service will do the rest ..
Basicaly will upload your file onto their server , process it and render it to you on a file download link ...
There you go you have now a CAB version of your EXE file to upload on your phone with ActiveSync...
My problem
how to say... the site is cool ,and i get my file converted. However, the nature of that file hasn't been changed into a cab. it is still an exe. I dunno if i have done something wrong when converting.

installing tcmp4 on XDA IIi

Hello
I was trying to install tcmp4 on an XDA IIi, i downloaded tcmp4 onto the storage stick of XDA IIi, and clicked on the tcmp4, i get the message
'tcmp4' is not a valid Pocket PC application
i am sure i downloaded tcmp4 onto my XDA Exec in a similar way.
can you guys help me?
hello again
i figured out what to do, rather i remembered what i had done with my xda exec.
it is just the same procedure, get the cabinst file, and use it to install the cab file for the arm version
dear XDA_Guy
installing any application in Pocket PC can be either
1) exeutable file : which extention is .exe
these files (mostly and I say mostly) installable via the PC using ActiveSync program installed.
2) .cab file and these file shall be copied directly to the pocket PC and installed by clicking on them
Most program supplier (or programmers) produced the 2 vesrion of there programs i.e. in Cab and Exe format
the good thing with the cab version that you can keep in the SD card and everytime your hard-reset ( or format ) your XDA your can easly restore the programs from the SD (cab file ) without a computer.
IMPORTANT NOTE : about cab file ... most pocket pc or Windows CE deletes the cab file automatically after installing them.
to prevent this you need to install other cab installation utility / program.
personally I use the attached program. its exe file but just copy it and place it in your my documents or any other location . ( this is exe file but its a pocket pc exe file not PC )

thanks for the reply nasoor
you mean that the cab file version are meant to be installed on sd cards
and the exe version is meant to be installed on the device itself by clicking on the exe while the exe is on the pc?
how do i use the active sync program to install an .exe file? i copied the .exe file to my sd card and accessed it through activesync(explorer) however by only clicking on the file, it only gives me the properties
yes ,
the cab files should be copied either to you SD card or to the Pocket PC using the activesync explorer.
the EXE file should be run directly from the PC not the XDA. the steps are :
1- Put your XDA in the cardle ( holder) which is connected to the USB.
2- wait for the syncronization process to finish
3- go to the EXE file for TCPMP program in your Desktop Computer
4- Run the file and follow the instructions to be installed
5- after finishing you will see your XDA doing some progress and copying
6- You are done enjoy
regarding the cabinstall_en.exe file for cab installation , even this file is an exe file but as I told you before you can just copy it to your SD card and run in the Pocket PC not the Desktop because this is a Mobile EXE file.
I hope you are fine now ..
thanks for the reply nasoor
is there any way to know if a a file is a mobile exe file or is a pc exe file?
actually , without a programmed tool or external tool you can not
I mean , the only way - as I think - is by try executing the file , if the file fails to run with an error messaage says ' The file is not a valid 32 bit application ' then it means that this is for Pocket PC
otherwise , it will run , then it should be ment for the Desktop or Windows XP /ME application
thanks for the reply nasoor
pocket pc's are 32 bit applications?

Any App For Changing .Exe to .Cab ? ? ?

is there any program to convert .exe to .cab ?
i don't want to use pc for installing files like that .........
what i do,.... use the exe in your pc without the pda,... activesync will try to install the app in the ppc,... dont't touch it....
Go thru my pc to the folder where activesync is installed,... there you will see one folder named usually like the app you wanna install,... open it and you will see the cab ,... done....
Excuse my english ,.... thanks
I've never tried it myself, but presumably the CAB file is just wrapped up in the installer so you can probably open the EXE using something like WinRAR and just extract the CAB file from it yourself.
There is no general solution for this.
In most cases the CAB files are inside an installer EXE. The possibility and effort to "extract" the cab varies depending from the EXE (there are many different packers and installers on the market).
Some of them can be opened with packers like WinRAR or 7zip, others can't.
There is one thing they all have in common: the CAB has to be (temporary) installed onto your harddisk. This might be under "Programm Files\Software Vendor\", ActiveSync directory or an temp directory, for example "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\<subdir?>" in Windows XP. In some cases the CAB will be deletet when the setup programm ends.
So, unfortunately, there is no generic method to extract the CAB.
open the exe in winrar or a similar archiving program and look for the cab (probably a jumbled up name, though still has the .cab file extension)
just extract the EXE using winrar and copy the CAB file in there to your mobile device.

How to install Zipped EXE files?

hi guys..
seems like a n00b question..i know
but i downloaded some cool apps from handango which are made for Xperia..but i was unable to install them.
do i need to use Activesync for such files?...and if yes..i also tried to install activesync 4.5 but it says 'not for Vista'
any tips?
exe files can be
1. pda exe's which is not install files but the program itself
which you yourself have to copy to where ever you want it
and make a shortcut in programs yourself
2. windows exe's which use activesync on xp and Windows Mobile Device Center on vista
to copy the cabs to the pda and auto install them
in many cases those exe files are self-extracting zip files and one can just rename them zip and copy out the cab files one needs typically the arm one
thanks..i installed Windows Mobile Device center on my vista..connected X1 via USB and done!

hehe thx but 44 this i most go 2 at my pc but i cant is there a posebilite
.rar files are archived files (compressed files)
you can unpack them with winrar, on the pc, or with winrar for ppc (for unpacking with the device itself)
the best way to unpack these .rar files is on your pc, and then copy the .cab file to your ppc, to start installing the game.
or use the instalation program included in the .rar file if it is an .exe file
a program will be installed to your pc, and the program will install and copy everything to your ppc.
if the game has no installation, only an .exe file and some data files, copy al the files to a new map on your ppc and click on the .exe (with an file explorer)
grtz.
download it on your phone, then connect your phone to a pc transfer the file to the pc and install it that way?

I've never felt so stupid. I've got Unrar on my computer and it seems to be unacking things, but it does it in a heartbeat and then I don't know where it's sending the unpacked files; i can't find them anywhere. where the heck do I look. The program doesn't seem to have a screen or any functions; it's doing something in the background AND making me feel like an idiot. Anyone got a "Well duh!" to help me blush?
right click the rar file and click extract here.
It will extract it to the same location you have the rar file.
